I have an Xperia S with ICS installed
I was wondering if flashing the 4.0.3 kernel from the Lt18 (pretty sure that firmware has rooting abilities)
onto the Xperia S
then Root
then Flash the Xperia S kernel back could possibly work?
I was going to give it a try earlier today but thought it would be best to ask if they're is any risk of perma-bricking the phone and unable to reflash before I did
Are you for real??

You cant, on locked bootloader.
You can flash an Lt18 kernel on a Lt15 with flashtools maybe it might work
I'll give it a try
I'm sure I can flash back if it doesn't
well I hope so
Hi, try putting the phone in a jar of soil. After a few years it might get rooted without having to use the search function.
Cheers.

What is Generic Firmware and Firmware?

I downloaded Sony official GB and two ICS firmwares, GB and one ICS .ftf firmware only display its a "Firmware", but one ICS ftf file display its a "Generic Firmware". So what is the different between firmware and generic firmware? Is it only a name? I download those ftf files XDA forum.
Thanks!
i think Generic Firmwares re firmwares dat can be used on mobile phones in any country but Firmware re Variant types dat cant be used out a specific region!

I know about that tutorial and I also know that people fail following it. Though I never tried it.
So before you spend your money on that first try to do that
Just an advice
Btw I believe those fw's can be made with PCC/SEUS, at least ics ones.
Anw, your money your choice

simply put the ftf in firmware folder of flashtool, connect your phone in flash mode, and then flash the rom.

I did it SUCCESSFULLY!!!
Here are the steps..
1.Turn off your device.
2.Take battery out and dip it in water for 10 years!
3.Now insert back the battery and then hang your phone from a fan and start the fan.
4.While the fan is rotating in full speed connect your mobile to pc.
5.And then flash the kernel and rom using unflashtool.
6.Then do a full flip from a 10000000000 ft. building
Then u'll be successful(in bricking your device):silly:
Press THANKS if I HELPED,

Of course you will be able to restore it after flashing stock rom, rooting it and installing cwm

I'm most cases your phone maybe stuck at bootloop (but in some roms, maybe they don't even install without proper kernel) but if u flash the stock ftf file, then root and install cwm u can restore it...
