Hi Ashyx,
First off let me thank you for all your posts on the Samsung A5 SM-5100, producing countless scripts/files/etc.
I've been following many of posts on Rooting, unlocking. etc the Samsung A5100 for a couple of weeks now. With the aim of installing Google Apps onto my phone.
I am running Lollipop 5.1.1 and am not sure whether it is an Exynos or a Snapdragon processor.
Background:
My wife just bought me a China version of the SM-A5100 which blocks or does not come installed with any google services.
In my Settings > About Phone > Software Info screen, my build number is a LMYX.A5100ZCS1API4. However, when i boot into recovery mode it states:
Android System Recovery <3e>
LMYX.A5100ZHU1APE1.
Q1a. Which of these two is the correct firmware for my phone?
Q1b. I have downloaded the latest Hong Kong (which i believe to be google friendly) firmware A5100ZZH1API2 from samsung-firmware.org
but have not flashed it as I am afraid to brick my phone. Will this software version help me get closer to a google'd phone and even remove some of the other Chinese software that I am having a hard time uninstalling?
So far, I have rooted my phone using your CF-Auto-Root-a5xltechn, with Crom Service, and Odin flashing tool. I have also downloaded a Gapps zip file i believe to be suitable for my phone. However, I am not sure how to flash it. So far, I have been able to boot it in its original recovery mode which gives me 3 options:
Apply update from ADB
Apply update from External Storage
Apply update from Cache.
However, when i try any of these options it states that the above 3 are disabled.
I am now at the step of trying to get either CWM or TWRP for my phone so I can flash Gapps.zip from a custom recovery mode. However, there has not been anything developed on CWM or TWRP for my SM-A5100.
Q2a. Am I on the right track to getting Gapps on my smartphone?
Q2b. Are there any other ways to get Gapps?
I will be happy to try anything at this stage so am happy to test your TWRP even if its not necessary to googlify my phone. You've taught me lots so far, so thanks again.

Thanks.
You know there have been 25 downloads since posting this and not one has had the decency to report back.
So I'm guessing it works fine otherwise there'd be posts to the contrary.
I suggest you flash twrp first so you can back up your device.
You should be fine flashing the Hong Kong firmware. It will either flash or it won't.
In any case you will have that twrp backup to recover with.

Thanks will we use in A510F in exynos chip board ?

So after all of this, I realized all I needed was to install the Hong Kong firmware on this form. I haven't gone down the road of redoing any of the TWRPs as all i wanted was just to get google on my phone. Nonetheless thanks and I have donated a little to show my appreciation.
Cheers

Hi, ashyx.
It seems that there have been a A5100-TWRP3021.tar recovery file that I can flash in before this build.
What is the difference between A5100-TWRP3021.tarthe and your build?
Is the A5100-TWRP3021.tar build from you too?

Stuck with 'Set Warranty Bit : recovery'
Hi Asphyx
I have followed the procedure on my Galaxy A5100, the Flash with Odin went well but when I have to reboot in recovery mode, the phone stay on the start screen with "Galaxy A5(6)" and a text on top left in yellow that says : "Set Warranty Bit : Recovery". It won't boot to TWRP and stay stuck on this screen. (I have waited more than 15 minutes!). I have to reboot my phone with 'Power + Home + Volume down" and after it reboot to the system but never goes in recovery.
My Galaxy A5100 has a recent update with Android Marshmallow, does your TWRP recovery is compatible with this version of firmware?
Firmware : A5100ZHU1BQB1
Thank you.

Hi Asphyx
I got the same error like the @sonic1200 guy when I flash the twrp on my A5100(Hong Kong) on android 6.0.1 version and it stucks at 'Set Warranty Bit : recovery'. I think the problem is since the twrp is not updated for android 6.0.1 it is not working. Confirmed that recovery is not accessible and stucks forever. Would you mind if you take a look at the updated A5100 6.0.1 firmware and modify the recovery to us? Appreciated if you do so.
PS: the firmware version is A5100ZHU1BQB1
Best regards,
Isaiah

Recommended Steps For Flashing.
Put phone into download mode
In odin select Your valila copy of the kies update and put in PDA option box
then select the posted TWRP and put in phone.
click start to flash and watch the progress,
AS SOON AS IT finishes the flash with writing the second recovery image hold down VOL UP AND VOL DOWN for the reboot, the device is now in recovery with twrp
you can either do adb sideload (choose advansed on main menu) to apply the patch or adb push and place on the sd-card (Note in recovery the phones internal memory is /emmc and the sd-card is /sd-card , so it you dont have a sd-card inserted you must use adb push filename.zip /emmc/)
once the file is sideloaded ( or installed via twrp install menu option for adb push users)
then do a factory reset once more.
Enjoy your Cherry ROM

My Dear Friend Just Install a Recovery Like CWM OR TWRP
Your Problem Will Be Solved
[solved]How To Root Samsung Galaxy Note SHV-E160L (New Method)
Basic Requirements:
Samsung Galaxy Note (SHV-E160L)
Computer
USB data Cable
Phone Charger (You won’t expect your phone to die of the battery during rooting)
Now we move on to our step by step procedure. (Do follow each and every step and read them carefully to avoid any problem for which we will not be responsible.)
Root Samsung SHV-E160L
Procedure To Root Samsung Galaxy Note
1. First you have to download all the drivers for Samsung SH-E160L on your Computer.
2. The second and most important thing to do is, enabling USB debugging. For this, you will find Developer options in your Settings option and then Enable USB Debugging.
Developer Options
In Android 4.2.2 the Developer mode is hidden and to unhide it, go to Settings and then in about option go to System Information. Inside this, you will find Software information, and then there you will see “More” option, inside which you will get Build Number. Tap on this option for 5-8 times and then a message will appear, “You are now a Developer” which means that the developer option is now shown under your settings option that was earlier not present.
3. Now the next step is to download vRoot(search in google and download) and install it on your Computer.
4. Now open vRoot and then mount your Samsung Galaxy Note to your computer through a USB cable.
5. The vRoot will automatically search for your smartphone once its connected to your computer and it will automatically detect when your phone is attached.
6. Now, click on your phone name in vRoot and in the next window that appears, you will see a root button. Just, click on it.
7. The vRoot software will automatically start rooting the phone and will automatically install SuperSU app in it.
8. Now you have Successfully Rooted your Samsung Galaxy Note SHV-E160L. To verify that you have successfully rooted your phone, go to your menu and then search for SuperUser app. If you found that app then it means the device is successfully rooted and if not, then please repeat the process carefully.
Note: Your Manufacturer Warranty gets Void when you root your phone. It means that they will charge you for any damage that you cause to your device. So proceed after making your mind and making clear of what are you doing. WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE THAT YOU CAUSE TO YOUR DEVICE DURING ROOTING.
If for any reason you want to Rollback all you have done, then go to Play Store and just Download SuperSU (ChainFire) and install it. After installation, open the app, move to Settings and then select Full Unroot. Your device will be brought back to the earlier stage.

[Q] GT-I9300.pit installed out of Desperation!

I will not go into detail but suffice to say I was running my Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 on a stock Samsung Android 4.1.2 ROM and it was rooted and had a custom CWM Recovery.
I then flashed to CM 10.0.0 but encountered problems and tried to revert to my original ROM. This resulted in my phone displaying the initial black background boot screen with the words "Samsung Galaxy SIII GT-I9300". It stuck there and I could not switch it off nor could I get into Recovery Mode.
I was able to get into Download mode and connect to Odin to reflash my original ROM but Odin continually got stuck in the process at "Setup Communication" and on the odd occasion it got past that it then stuck on "Get Pit Mapping".
After much research of this and other forums found one lone article about Samsung introducing new ROMS from July 2013 onwards which had efs2 and that once upgrading to an efs2 ROM you could not go back to a previous efs1 ROM which I think I tried to do.
I eventually decided therefore to bite the bullet and I downloaded GT-I9300.pit and flashed it using Odin with Re-Partition selected. I was then able to flash Samsungs latest Android 4.3 (I9300XXUGMK6) ROM for the I9300.
The result is that whilst the phone is again fully functional I am unable to install a custom recovery nor can I root my phone.
I thought that if I used the GT-I9300.pit file it would re-partition the phone as a I9300 should be partitioned but it seems I was wrong.
I am happy with my phone now that I have recovered it but would like to be able to backup my rom but I need root to do that. Does anyone know what I have done with my phone and are you able to advise as to how I might now root it again?
Thanks

After flashing the stock rom when coming from a custom rom is always best to do a factory reset to clear the phone.
You can root with CF auto root from my signature it works perfectly well on stock 4.3 MK6, then use TWRP or Philz recovery both are in the Dev section

As you can see from the above it looks as though the process falters at "<ID:0/003> Get PIT for mapping.." which would appear to have something to do with the fact that I had to re-partition using GT-I9300.pit and that is what prompted my question in the first place.
It appears to me that the GT-I9300.pit file has altered my partitions in a non I9300 way despite having I9300 in the filename and that is why I posted the question in the hope someone would know what I had done and hopefully know a way I could either reverse what I had done or suggest a way to root despite my apparently new partition format?

Have a look here then you my be able to recover your device, it is Korean based so will default to KOR not BTU but it could repair the PIT problem if that is what you have.

I have already recovered my phone and it is working correctly on Samsung Official Stock 4.3 ROM (Android 4.3 - I9300XXUGMK6) EXCEPT that I cannot flash a custom Recovery nor can I root the phone. I have several apps that only operate on a rooted phone so just rooting it without a custom recovery would suffice.
If someone tells me that it is no longer possible to root my phone then I will be disappointed but I can live with it. I just thought someone might know the answer.
That problem in Odin might be related to incorrect drivers for your phone.
Remove any kies or Samsung softwares and reboot pc. Reinstall kies and connect phone 2 pc for drivers install. Then try a different usb port to flash smth on the phone.

I think i had the same problem with rooting and done reinstalling drivers and change the port so it is now rooted.
Also try unticking autoreboot then after the instalation is done disconnect the phone and remove/reinsert battery and boot to recovery so the auto root files start to install...
Of course everything you do is at your own risk...

Hi, please can you suggest what else I can try to fix this phone.
I have Samsung S3 GT-I9300
It was working fine but suddenly, I turned it on and It is stuck on the Samsung LOGO forever.
It doesn't go to recovery mode when pressing HOME+VOL UP+POWER.
But I could go to Download mode. however Odin fails to install CWM and TWRP
this is download mode:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME:GT-I9300
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD:YES (9counts)
CURRENT BINARY: Custum
SYSTEM STATUS:Custom
I tried to install official recovery but it fails too
Code:
<ID:0/022> Added!!
<ID:0/022> Odin v.3 engine (ID:22)..
<ID:0/022> File analysis..
<ID:0/022> SetupConnection..

<ID:0/022> FAIL!
<ID:0/022>
<ID:0/022> Complete(Write) operation failed.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
although it fails It says : Current binary: samsung Official .
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME:GT-I9300
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD:YES (9counts)
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS:Custom
but the problem remain the same, NO RECOVERY MODE, and still the same LOGO stuck screen.
Please Any suggestions... .??
Try the rescue firmware thread in general forum, using a pit file. Also, downgrading the bootloader might help flash to work.

Thanks for your reply .
Just before I start flashing, I want to confirm things as I am a newbie.
I have downloaded FIRMWARE FACTORY 4.1.2
GT-I9300XXEMG4_KOR_MULTI_FACTORY
from this link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30087735&postcount=6
Do I have to check Re-partition box too beside auto reboot and F. Reset time?
About downgrading, I don't really know which bootloader I have.
Depend on what version firmware you were on before 4.1 or 4.3. Follow the instructions in that thread.
Downgrade bootloader to BLFB, search for it.

Can you please point me to this BLFB , there are bunch of threads but nothing is clear.
I appreciate your help a lot
I screwed it more trying to install this Bootloader_XXELLA_Odin.tar
now it show this message
"firmware upgrade encountered an issue. please select recovery mode in kies and try again"
i45.tinypic.com/27y2tmd.jpg
please any advices, I am still able to go download mode
1. Downgrade bootloader
2. Flash stock firmware
If the bootloader flashed correctly, then try step 2.
The bootloader you used is not ideal, I don't know if that still has the problem but it might work.

i9300 bricked bootloop

Hi!
Here my story.
Flashing "cm-12.1-20151016-UNOFFICIAL-temasek-i9300-V18.0-ds94-FIXED.zip" (Android 5.1.1) and running smooth for 2 days. Recharing battery overnight causing bootloop.
I tried numerous attempts to regain access with odin, however no success.

Will your device accept a btu stock rom?. I can give you a link if you want to try my stuff..
I wish I stole my HTC M9.
ok, gimme link.
whats about hard brick sd card recovery bootloader?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2581166
i have same working s3 on android 5.1.1 -> one idea is to safe working bootloader to sd card and flash the bricked phone.
I found out that "cm-12.1-20151016-UNOFFICIAL-temasek-i9300-V18.0-ds94-FIXED.zip"
using 4.1.2 bootloader (i9300xxemc2) which can cause bootloop on i9300.
Another i9300 with stock firmware using i9300xxugna8 with bootloader 4.3 should avoid bootloop, however forbid downgrade to earlier versions.
Based on this information, anyway to debrick phone without replacing emmc?
greets

I read that sboot.bin do not allow to install older ROMs than it was last time flashed.
OK, I tried with

First try to flash this firmware
https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/106963/G925FXXS4DPJ2_G925FBTU4DPH1_BTU/
If you get any errors then post them here.
If you want to flash a custom rom then try CarHD rom from here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6-edge/development/rom-carhdrom-1-t3111519/page1433
Flash carhd rom through twrp
https://dl.twrp.me/zerolte/
Flash twrp through odin first
Then carhd rom through twrp
If you need help let me know
Hello.. and thx for answer.
Im not beginer in flashing phones, and Im using it few years on my S3 and S4.
So..
Im install this Arabic version of ROM and after him, it is unposible to put any other ROM.
Rom what I installed is:
Code:
2017-01-24 United Arab Emirates 6.0.1 PDA G925FXXS5DQA3 CSC G925FOJV4DPI4
Of course I tried ROM you suggested, even with his PIT file what people put on Samsung forum site and here is the results:

People said that once you install newer version you can not do the downdrade and ODIN reject to put sboot.img on it.
If I try to put CARHD ROM then it only have a bootloop, even if I after ROM installing delete data, cache/dalvik with latest TWRP.
Bootloop looks that very first screen (Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge) when I power phone just blinking every 10 sec.
With this Arabic Original ROM I lost totaly SIM card:
Please help me to solve somehow...
This will fix your phone
if you want to have your stock rom back you should install the U4 rom provided by our frnd via odin
your odin gives u an error because the rom u r installing has a new bootloader older than the stock bootloader preinstalled
you can use this rom, BUT MAKE SURE U BACK UP YOUR EFS DATA, else your imei will be corrupt (happens sometimes)
this rom have a U4 bootloader (as u can c in the rom file name) which is earlier than the one you have (U3).
installing Xtrestolite Rom Directly After flashinng TWRP will make your phone more stable, back to normal+much more.
u dont need to flash any bootloaders or modems for that, just flash rom with TWRP.
i had just the same problem before, and that solved it
im khaled elhushaimi btw, im new to xda but old in android.
whatsapp me if u need any help

sboot.bin fail means your flashing a bootloader older than the one you have installed already. You need to flash a firmware with latest bootloader. Or use the firmware you have already, extract the firmware and remove sboot.bin and cm.bin. compress it and then flash again.
Thx mates..
I will try and type!
