android 7.1 coming in October - Nexus 6P General

https://goo.gl/c5s322
"Android 7.1 Nougat will be available by the end of this month in the form of a developer preview according to the official Android blog."
I know a lot of ppl were pissed about pixel phones only getting 7.1 but from this article says we will have a dev preview in October thankfully ????

It's a dev preview though. Not beta or final. Still sucks

Better than not at all

Not doing a dev preview on my main phone. My battery life is bad enough as it is on nougat
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk

N dev preview 3/4/5 were totally good for daily usage, 7.1 will probably be very close to 7.0 so I'm almost sure 7.1 dev preview will be usable for daily usage too. Maybe the issue related to battery life will finally be solved too

Is it even a developer preview really when it's already out on the Pixel line up? If anything this seems like it could more like get a bunch of people to test out the new version to find bug fixes for device they are using. Probably why the Nexus 6 got N about a month and half later(unless they are doing releases based on aged and next year 6P and 5X will be last in line to get version updates.

Final release is in December. Don't fret y'all.

We still don't get the Pixel Features...
Source ist the Verge, can't Post URLs...

There's already a thread about 7.1.

where is nexus 9 android 5.1

Why has Google ignored nexus 9, I bought this tablet so that it would be first to get updates but it's the opposite? Why Google why?
Chill out! Its not even been a week since announcement!!!
Google has identified another memory leak in 5.1, maybe they fix it before the rollout.

Ugh, are you serious! That makes it 4 releases in a row they've given us faulty software (5.0,5.01,5.02,5.1). Are they even trying?

Yeah, it's only a small problem compared to 5.0.1, but it still exists... :/

64-bit must be giving the developers trouble compared to the other Nexus devices, or maybe there's something else about the K1.

Yes, I want to know myself. Google suposed to be giving nexus devices upgrades for 2 years and the nexus 9 is still a new device and no update to version 5.1 yet. Stock images is still 5.0.1 version. I tryied updating to the pure AOSP 5.1 from the dev section from this forum but it had errors so bad it was unusable.
We already know that 5.1 still has memory leaks. At this point, I would prefer to wait another couple weeks and have them release 5.1.1

well.. it has been almost 1 month since 5.1 images released... And still nothing.. the funny thing is that they realized that there is a memory leak in 5.1 and yet they released 3 versions of 5.1 for nexus 6, and 2 versions for nexus 5. All versions with the memory leak. The most funny thing will be nexus 9 to receive 5.1 with 1 month delay and not 5.1.1 with the memory leak fix...

The Nexus 9 doesn't seem to be a priority for Google. Even the Nexus 7 2013/2012 have received 5.1 despite being much older than the N9, they should at least give a release window for the 9 even if they are unable to provide immediate updates. Although, I think the user base for the Nexus 9 might be small, so perhaps Google doesn't think it's necessary to cater to N9 users at this time.

I believe this too, due to the extremely low "nexus market share" this device has. Anyway, eventually it will be released.. Let's hope that it will be a final version. There will always be bugs, this is how software development works.
The SoC is a catastrophic choice. No other devices use it, I think, and development will be less than nothing from Nvidia.

Reports of "memory leak" from morons who don't even know what a memory leak *is* are meaningless. Your assumption that "they realized that there is a memory leak in 5.1" is without merit.

Whatever pal. Believe whatever you like.
But the fact that neither you nor anyone else has actually *demonstrated* a memory leak really says a lot about how well (or rather poorly) you understand.
In fact, first thing I would do is challenge you to explain (without looking it up) what a memory leak *ACTUALLY IS*, as well as *prove* that there is one in play.

Android 8.1

I know Samsung is slow with updates but does anyone know if we're ever going to see 8.1 or are they waiting another 12 months for Android 9
.1 updates rarely have anything in them that aren't nexus and pixel related. all the stuff for none pixel devices tends to be in the security patches, hence why for the most part samsung rarely if ever updates to them anymore.
the only release devices on the .1 variant as a selling feature as lots of thick people think it's better to have 8.1 than 8.0 so they upgrade a s9 to a note 9.
it's all PR and in no way an actual upgrade
As mikeyaj said, 8.1 has next to nothing in it. Here's an article: http://www.trustedreviews.com/news/...-release-date-download-changes-phones-3317301
Sure, BT battery levels would be nice, but, the device has to support it, and I'm pretty sure Samsung baked it in anyways. LG I know did on my old v20.
The only other notable thing is the fingerprint deactivation after X failed attempts. Nice and all, but for someone frequently forgetting to dry a finger first, I'm not even sure I'd use it.
Now if it was some huge memory leak or something, sure, let's get 8.1 to the masses, but Samsung is struggling with security patches. There's really no reason to invest in testing 8.1 for the few things it adds.
Honestly the biggest thing I am looking forward to is the limited notification sounds per second. Nothing is worse than coming out of Android Auto to 45 seconds of notification sounds. I can mute the phone for a moment to bypass this, but it would be nice if I didn't have to use a workaround.
The only thing I want is dark theme in settings menu which is baked into 8.1

The update to 8.1 on Nexus improved battery and performance. Others may argue differently, but I would like to see it come to the S9. Major releases are always buggy and is the code that was developed to meet the deadline. The intended functionality usually comes out in the x.1 release.

Oneplus Updatepolitics

Hey,
i asked myself a question. I was informed a few days ago from Oneplus Community Forum, that Oneplus rolls out the Updates in a 3 Month Circle. Dont know that before, just thinked this phone get fast Updates like my old Samsung Note 9 wich is, by the way, on January 2020 Security Patch. Oneplus is on November 2019.
So 2 Questions.
Im right, that OxygenOS is very near to Stock/Vanilla Android with just e few optimations etc ? So nothing overloaded like OneUi from Sammy ?
And is it rihgt, that the OP7TPro is a fully Project Treble supportet Phone ?
If these 2 Things are right, im very courious why they have such a bad Update politic. I mean not general Updates..my 7t Pro runs so far so good without any Bugs or else. I mean the Google Security Updates wich fill critical Security issues, along with the Google OS itself. Oh and i heard in the Communityforum, that Oneplus does this Job better back in the Days with OP6 Series for example. Is that right ?

Yes almost stock
No idea on the 2nd question
And there not the best for updates seems to be every 6 weeks or so
OnePlus are... Weird.
They run by this every 2 month update policy but here's the thing.
Lest take this as an example. It's end of January now, and February patch is a week or two away at tops, but they still release an update with January patch, instead of waiting that week or two and be fully in line with security patches.
OnePlus is probably closest to stock Except pixel phone. But I feel they are slowly drifting away form it, in my opinion, the implementation of OxygenOS is really poor.
And yes, this phone is 100% treble supported. (Which one would think would make updates fasters, but I guess not).
Could someone explain to me why the security updates are so important for some? What do they change for everyday user? (I'm asking seriously now, no hard feelings).
The only thing that needs fixing/updating asap for me is Horizon light, and this should be done much sooner. Apart from this everything is working fine, so I rather hesitate to update to not break something else, unless security update fixes the bugs, makes it more functional, faster or more battery friendly

General No sign of Android 12L beta for pixel 6 series!

Seems Google is struggling with pixel 6 series.
First the critical Dec release was delayed/not yet reached to many ppl.
Secondly, no sign of 12L beta on pixel 6.
All is not well with 6 series.
December OTA is stopped due to connecting network issues

Google is not struggling with the P6. It is the same thing every year with a new OS and new devices.
Curious to why you want Android 12L, it is geared towards Android tablets.

I think they do, Pixel 6 Dec patch was released 1 week after old devices (Which has not yet reached to mass - Source: https://9to5google.com/2021/12/20/does-your-pixel-6-have-the-december-2021-update-yet-poll/ ).
Android 12L beta 1 was released 2 days after the Dec patch for older devices, on Dec 8. And todays is 22nd Dec (more than a week after "so called" Dec patch release) but no sign of any 12L beta.
No comms or news about 12L beta as well, from google, for Pixel 6 series (apart from "Coming Soon" tag).
Regarding your curiosity: I bought pixel 6 just for regular updates and early access to newer version.

I have downloaded the december release over OTA after searching for updates. Then rolled back to november because of the problems with calls and now the december release is not offered any loger (if i search for updates).
I even think they have stopped it.
If the beta isn't today, I doubt we'll get it. Maybe we have to wait until beta 2.

I personally don't consider it as a mess up. Been getting Google phones since the Nexus 6 with the exception of the Pixel 4. I would only guess that there is going to be a few bumps in the road with something like 6 being that it is a whole new "phone" in sorts if you would call it that. Consider a new type of chip (not been tested much if at all), new fingerprint scanner (For Google its new and it SUCKS), a little larger phone AND I think a large portion of it is consider supply and demand with supplies with building a phone. Google has always aimed for the NEXT best thing, a sort of pioneer. I had the Pixel 5 and it was great for about 6 months then nothing but problems for me. My wife loves her 5 and doesn't like the 6. Although she can handle the little things that drive me nuts with the 5 and she can't stand the trade off for the 6, being larger and the finger print scanner that is limited to 5 unlocks a day before charging (due to the time it takes to get the hamster run fast enough on his wheel). This is just my 2 cents worth and not even worth that most of the time.
If you know of another phone manufacturer, that offers monthly updates (95%) of the time for a min of 2 years, Is vanilla android, and gets new Android versions 1st not to mention unlockable bootloaders for those who have to tinker, don't be greedy! I am sure there is a few of us that would consider trying another phone line up just to try if nothing else. Darn that is another nickels worth . OK I shut up now..
I will be happy to try beta 12L for my android tv devices. Most Android tv boxes are using out dated software.
But for the P6 it is a no for me. I just do not see any benefits for the P6.

Not buggy at all for me.
The main version might be just around the corner. So might as well wait another week or two for that. Else you'll have to do it all over again.
Android 13 stable release to AOSP has a default security patch level of 2022-09-01, so it likely won't get released until September.
I am planning to wait because a few apps that I use will need to catch up to Android 13.
It's in beta, and like all betas, it's not quite ready for public release. If you want to try the new Android, go for it, but don't expect it to be stable or functional enough for a daily driver, much less perfect.
It seems as stable as my Samsung S20 was.
I didn't run my P6 with Android 12, I went straight from a Galaxy S20 (with Android 12) to the P6 with Beta 13.
The current beta 13 is very stable, but I do hit a snag every now and then. I use it as my daily driver.... and like I said, it's as stable as my S20 was....And I prefer 13 over 12.
It's not buggy at all for me. Works great!
+1 Works great.

Yes
It's stable and better than 12.
Get it in, jump.
I am on the latest Beta and see very few if any bugs. It solved most of my complaints about the P6 on 12. Fingerprint reader is improved (I'd give it a B now). The only thing that has not improved (so I suspect it is hardware) is my cellular reception. I think it is just the older modem they used. I get less reception in many areas compared to my work iPhone sitting right next tot he P6. Sometimes there is no data coming down on the P6 and iPhone works fine.
