The best Android version for the Z3 Tablet? - Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

Hi:
First of all sorry for my poor English. Soon I will receive a z3 Tablet. It´s probably that the tablet will come wit the 4.4.4 (kit kat) version.
The principal use of the tablet is watch films and series....Will you recommend update to lollipop/marshmallow?.
If kit kat is the best versión...Should I flash the tablet to a cleaner firmware version?
Thanks in advance

I suggest u a biggg NO.Trust me KK is far away better from all firmwares as regard on speed, lag and mainly battery life...
(bytheway..is the only OS that u can easilly get 10 hours of S.O.The weird with this,in addition to most tablets,is that streaming videos, consumes the same battery as just browsing.about 10%/hour ?)
Peace to all

Thanks. I´ll wait and check the version once the tablet arrives

For me the latest Firmware runs quite well.
About 9 to 10 hours with Twitch, YouTube and Chrome.
I got my unit about two years (don't know) ago, never done anything special.
My first Android device that performs so well about many updates so such a long time..
Sent from my E6653 using XDA-Developers mobile app

9-10 hours is perfect.I would like to try MM,but many users report only 6 hours S.O.T.Mmmm weird...
Peace to all

From time to time there was a problem with the android webview service, but a update from Google play solved it.
When Google optimized some strange things, it started draining the battery, but every time they fix it.
Very stable.
And of course, when you are running dozens of apps with push and autosync, your battery will die faster. But that's not firmware related.

hmm thanks for the info!you know is very weird when u hear some say that they get 6 hours, others 10 hours..but now I can finally test MM one day!But I have to tell u KK runs veeery stable. Not a single lag even with lot of apps and never f.reset ?
Peace to all

It´s possible go back to KitKat once you upgrades to MM?

Does Marshmallow stamina mode in the last firmware version ?

I use MM with the update of the slimm rom for z3 and it works perfectly. i got 9 hour of SOT with 2 day without charge it approx.

MM rooted over here. got 12 hr sot during hurricane matthew streaming movies over wifi hotspot

How is LP ? Should I upgrade to MM? Don't want to unlock bootloader or root so I'm picking between stock sony firmwares only

Hi Leo
Does MM have support for Dualshock 3 in Xperia Connect? I read that the feature was removed in recent firmwares

Dont really know. never used it since all emulators suck for PSP emulation.

I use MM, fw 23.5.A.0.570, and have about 12-14 days in standby. I don't agree with kos25k that KK is the best option, it's very old fw.
My tablet is rooted and debloated, and i use L-speed to tweak the system to my liking. It works very well. The only problem is with the camera, it can't focus and take pictures. Prob something I did when I installed the fw tough. Never really use the camera on it, so it's not a big deal for me though.

For best support you'll need an app to emulate the ds4 buttons and root. It should work with ds3 too but you will have to check.
Im going to root and try out 'sixaxis controller' tool that I've used with other devices.
Also i like MM wish we would get N.

although is old OS,it is considered by the most as the best OS overal..Also is considered from most developers as the most stable OS on android platform general..it runs on 35% of android devices, even if is old..and also in our case (Z3) very most say that runs best from anything else ?
Peace to all

Wait, are you using a Z3 made ROM on the Z3TC? Won't it have weird resolution and interface differences that aren't optimized for tablets?

Went from KitKat 4.4.2 back to 4.2.2

I just want to share what and why I did it. First off I did not have problems with my wifi on 4.2.2 with the Nexus10. the second that I went to Slim Kat and Vanir 4.4.2 I had weak wifi signal at work and at home when my nexus 7 slim kat and my galaxy note 2 Vanir did not. I noticed that RAM was also weird on the nexus 10. Even though it showed 2gb of ram on the specs it was only showing 1099 on 4.4.2 when I show that I have 1647 ram available with 4.2.2.
Concerning the OS using Ram. Google said that they would make Kit Kat more RAM friendly but I was using 535mb of RAM for 4.4.2 and right now I am showing only 357.3 mb for 4.2.2. I am using the same apps launchers and screen savers.
I just flashed back to 4.2.2 this morning so I will update later, I do see an improvement in the wifi though.
I just want to say that I love Slimkat and that is why I am on the 4.2.2 I just think Google somehow hosed up the wifi on the Nexus 10.
I have one question with all this. Is the wifi and Ram usage Kernel related?

B][/B] Ok so I am at work and have went back and forth between 4.4.2 and 4.2.2. the 4.4.2 connects and disconnects back and forth. When it does connect to router but it says poor connection and it is only 24mbps. "It drops way more than connected" I am 45 ft from router in an open environment.
The 4.2.2 Slim Kat has a fair connection with 78 Mbps and has not dropped once. So I don't know what the difference is with Kit Kat compared to Jelly Bean but for my nexus 10 my wifi is great now with Jelly Bean. I wish I could figure out why and fix but I do not know programming.
Have you tried to untick the "WiFi optimization" box in advanced WiFi settings? To me this seemed to improve the connectivity.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
Yes I did do that and it just helped a little. I have been back on slimbean 4.2.2 for over a day now and my WiFi is great. Also I do not have any of the bugs that kit kat has . I have not had any fc or dropped WiFi. The tablet is perfect.

Hi,
If the 4.2.2 suits well your needs then there's no need to complain at all . I have no idea about the WiFi problem, sorry... I always use my WiFi close to the router, so I don't have problems. But I can explain you the RAM thing in KitKat.
Like you already know the Nexus 10 powers up a huge resolution display, and the graphics processor is not really able to keep up with it all alone, so Google allocated some of Nexus 10 RAM to the GPU. The update brings some new stuff, therefore requires more power and as such it will probably need more GPU power as well, and that's why you see less RAM. I will share here how I tested each update based on graphical performance:
I picked up an anime episode that I had in MKV, FullHD, FLAC audio, blah blah blah... In other words, very heavy stuff. Downloaded MX Player on both my S4 and my Nexus 10. Let's start the tests now:
First Test:
Both running 4.2.2 - The video was very laggy in both devices, in S4 it was completely unwatchable. On Nexus 10 you could watch it, but it was very unpleasant.
Second Test:
Both running 4.3 - The video got a little better on S4, you could watch it, but some parts were uncomfortable and really laggy. Nexus 10 got an amazing improvement (that's when Google started to allocate RAM to the GPU), you could watch it almost flawlessly, the only problem was skipping some parts and one particular scene.
Third Test:
My S4 broke, and now I'm with a Xperia Z1. Xperia Z1 and Nexus 10 running KitKat - Xperia Z1 performance was perfect, no lag at all, all scenes watchable and no problems rewind and fast forwarding the video, Snapdragon 800 has an amazing GPU indeed. Nexus 10, being one year older than Z1 with a older processor and way more pixels had a similar performance, was way better than on 4.3, the problem was with rewinding and fast forwarding, other than that was perfectly fine.

So, if you don't use your tablet for heavy videos and such, you can stay in older versions with no problems . I just think it is good to share this small experiment I did to clarify why your RAM "disappeared" suddenly on KitKat .
~Lord
Thanks I can understand now why they use the ram. I want to be back on slimkat or any kat but not while the WiFi is so bad. I watch regular videos nothing heavy. I take my tablet everywhere and get free WiFi and I had problems with connecting to those places if they had a weak signal. Since going back to slimkat 4.2.2 I have had no issues.
I hope Google fixes this issue. I would like to be back with kitkat

Hey, so i've been checking solutions for days. I'm gonna assume you're still using 4.2.2 and still haven't found a solution for the WiFi issues of 4.4.2. I unfortunately updated my Nexus 10 without knowing the consequence. My symptoms seem worse than yours. Not only will my internet drop, but i can't ever get into the play store and youtube will only half-load its own pages and videos.
Anyways...what i need to know is your method for reverting back to 4.2.2. I've downloaded the IMG (.TGZ) file straight from google as i'm sure you have but i can't find how to flash the file onto the tablet without rooting the thing (which in turn voids your auto-updates with google (so i heard)). i found a video of a guy using a program called "wugfresh nexus toolkit" but a lot of people trust Odin to do this. I guess i just need the step-by-step process for this specific device using either of the programs.
Last question: why didn't you downgrade to 4.3 instead of going to 4.2.2. Was there a problem with that OS as well?
Thanks for your help.

Hi,
If I'm not wrong you can find how to restore stock on the Manta Help Thread! Please check there for further reference .
As for last question I don't know, you should try for yourself . As you said the symptoms in your case were worse, so what's better than checking for yourself other versions?

sorry to just get back to this thread. I am still using 4.2.2 I even went further and went totally stock so I can use the history channel app and brighthouse networks app. I use Wugs nexus kit and it walks you through all of it. Ever since I went back to 4.2.2 I have had no problems connecting to old wifi systems that my 10 could not connect to on 4.4.2. I am patiently waiting on the google fix for update 4.4.3

Excellent, thank you for your answer. That's what i was looking for. Flashed my new stock OS and it works like a charm! thank you very much!
I'm convinced the wifi issue will never be fixed.. Unless you're humping the router it's crap... Get down to 1-2bars of strength and its hit or miss if you'll get data throughput.. I've tried everything from changing wifi channels, switching only to WPA2 AES, disabling wifi optimization. It's just terrible still. This tablet has been a dud.. Between the ever changing RAM allocation to take more and more away from the user, the never fixed random reboots, and terrible Wifi... I'm probably never touching a Nexus tablet again.
I am using Nexus root tool kit. I download that program select the 4.4.2 as current program then selected the operating system that I wanted to go back to stock with. The link is :
http://www.wugfresh.com/nrt/
I went back to 4.3 and it's much better than kit kat, IMO.
I updated to 4.4.2. but had Wi-Fi issues where it would show that I was connected to Wi-Fi but could not actually access the internet and the only way to fix it was to toggle airplane mode on and off. It could happen as much as once every 15 minutes. Went back to 4.3 and no problems. When 4.4.3 came out I hoped the bug would be fixed but it wasn't so I downgraded again. Again no problems. When 4.4.4 came out I tried it out but in addition to the Wi-Fi issues I had frequent hard freezes where the tablet was completely unresponsive and had to hold down the power button to turn it off. These updates keep getting worse and worse. Back on 4.3 and think I'll stay here for a while. Only issue I've had is slight screen flicker, but I just turn off auto brightness and that fixes the problem.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
I have also went back to 4.2.2 for now. Device is just as responsive as 4.4 for me and battery life is much better.
I'm not going to lie...I accidentally flashed 4.2.2 and thought "wow this is a big improvement" thinking it was 4.4.2. The device is just so much more fluid. What are the barriers to the N10 responding like my N5?
Yeah I remember when I first got my N10 running 4.2, it was far faster, then 4.3 came and turned everything into ****, KK has been aan experience nearly as good as 4.2, save for the WiFi drops as they happen from time to time, I blamed it on my kernel as my sister's stock N10 doesn't exhibit these problems.
Anyways, I'm now running KK + ART + F2FS and lowered my resolution to 1200p as games have become more taxing and it's faster than ever before, battery could be improved but I blame that entirely on the screen.

@ Nimadroid, how is the battery life in your 5.0.2 Lollipop rom?
As most of us already mentioned, there is a memory leak as well as battery drain in all Lollipop roms.
Scrubbers port is still the best for battery although suffers from battery leak.
What other bugs/issues have been solved? Should we expect longer lasting battery life, possibly better than Kitkat?
Has performance and speed been increased as promised?
How about camera2 api? Did sony work on it? Or same with other manufacturers.

going one by one:
doing what? only with stock apps? android doesn't have any way to fix problematic programs running in the background having locked a core and draining the battery.
doing what? also, again, what sony or any other manufacturer never says up front is that the moment you install *anything*, then it is "nope, not our problem, we are not responsible if firefox ****s everything up, memory and battery", so to say that battery is optimised or whatever, when it is not really in your hands, is misleading. At best.
benchmarks are pointless, very easy to fake and you should be ashamed for even mentioning them. at least for ten years now it is known that companies can and do optimize their software to get great benchmark scores.
Also, 5.0.2 is out... 5.1 is out... What version are we getting, exactly?
Has the content-adaptive backlight option been restored? We had it in the first z ultra rom and it saz soon removed. It is very annoying and distracting to have the brightness fluctuate based on what the screen is showing.
have the sound problems been fixed? The sound has a delay whenever the phone has been silent for a wile and there are frequent clicks and pops.
can it FINALLY play music without clicks and pops?
I am very *very* dissappointed in sony.

IT'S MY OWN EXPERIENCE
AND YOU HAVE SOME PROBLEM THAT I NEVER SEEN IN MY ROM
Plz Be careful that lollipop have bug AND NOT SONY
Well I saw imporvements of battery, overall experience and antutu score around 42-43k also in Official CM12, so they are probably general improvements to the Android, that Nimadroid is seeing.
The clicking noises while listnening music is also something it dont have any of the roms I have tried (including stock).

Need help from Xperia z2 owners!

Hi, I have been using an iPhone 5 for quiet awhile (after coming from an Xperia NEO and PLAY) and am dying to go back to the freedom of android and want to get the Xperia Z2, however I have been reading that there is overheating issues not only with the 4k recording and need your advice, what has been your experience? have you had all the issues like overheating, freezing, wifi issues etc, that I have been reading about?
Also, what is the performance like on the Z2? does anyone know what the frame rate of Modern Combat 4 is? I got around 30fps on my Xperia PLAY with a custom rom
Lastly, what is the battery life like, and are all Xperia Z2 models 4G? I'm in Australia
Thanks in advance
Newer the batch model less issues
My Z2 gets hot but no overheating with anything, even 4k recording
No freezing issues, almost No wifi issues (rare random wifi drops)
Framerate is good but it does lag every so often on 4.4.4 167 FW (not sure about 5.0.2 690FW)
Battery life is awesome
4HRS -- 15HRS SOT
4hrs Total life - 9 days total life
(i always use max brightness, 4G and wifi)

Huawei T1 8 Pro - A way to confuse people and put my 2 cents

US..ONLY..So after an extensive research ...I bought the biggest Smartphone I can get...An 8 inch screen phone with a good battery life. For starters, here is what I found out...
Huawei has several models that are very confusing and even their customer service were not that much informative. models I have encountered are the following:
Huawei T1 8 Pro Honor - 823 L - 2 GB RAM and 16 GB Storage (Limited Bands for LTE but 4G speeds were fast enough for my use, got it from ebay)
Huawei T1 8 Pro Honor - 821 L - 1 GB RAM and 8 GB or 16 GB Storage options (More bands for LTE but 1 GB of RAM only)
Huawei T1 8 Pro Honor - 821 W - 1 GB RAM and 16 GB storage option (I think the W stands for WIFI...this I cannot confirm)
Huawei T1 8 Pro Mediapad - 2 GB RAM and 16 GB Storage from gethuawei website...out of stock as of this writing)
Huawei T1 8 Mediapad - 1 GB RAM and 16 GB Storage
This one has 4.4 for Android OS...I do not know if http://forum.xda-developers.com/hua...ot-huawei-mediapad-t1-8-0-pro-lte-t1-t3262608
has found a way to upgrade to Lollipop and remove bloatwares.
personally, the hardware is decent and battery life is great. I used it for 1 day and end fo the day still had 50% of battery life. I do need to have big pants though. Is there anyone trying to develop an updated OS for this system?

Nope nobody is developing anything to this device... Not even Huawei I guess... BTW after root bloatware can be easily removed...
Too bad...

Too Bad, this is a good device and the battery life is good for a phone with an 8 inch screen. It is also good for those who have problems with vision and not wanting to be bringing 2 devices for travels.
I may have to learn programming to see if I can update this...
I have the MediaPad T1 8.0 Pro and it has the best radio/modem for T-Mobile coverage. It even covers their HSPDA+ 750 MhZ band which only a few phones cover; this is the band that T-Mobile calls the "building buster" for its ability to penetrate most buildings. So yeah for all that.. I'm now waiting for an 8-inch phablet that's octo-core and features Lollipop or Marshmallow. So far I have been unable to find one..
So which one of the above did you get? 823L, 821L, or the one from Gethuawei website?...i m like you impressed with the build but needs a pure Android OS to maximize it's potential.
A have the pro8 t1-821L its rootable and bloatware can be removed this way I have also unlocked the bootloader but there is no custom recovery or ROM which is a damn shame because it's nice bit of kit a can watch movies all night long on it and still not need to charge it also am not locked to EE either so if any devs r reading this post please help this phablet out? cheers
Agree

I would have wanted the 821L also but there were no 2GB available anywhere. Only 1 GB. But even with my 823L and connecting at 4G, the speed is negligible in our area which is Central Florida. I get to watch Netflix, and Youtube also with not much lag. And I do not have to squint from a small screen. Agree, also that if anyone can build a custom ROM that's plain Android Lolllipop would be nice.
Would a T1 8 Cutom ROM work for the T1 8 Pro?

The page you linked is not good. The download links are there just to make you send money. Currently there are no custom recovery for huawei t1 8.0 neither to t1 8.0 pro without that installing custom roms are not really convenient. And also I wasn't able to find any custom rom especially on XDA, so I'm pretty sure thereare no "hints" on xda as the page says....
Huawei MediaPad T1 8.0 Pro GSM Unlocked 4G LTE US
Yes I do agree with everyone here. It is a very great device and a lot of bang for your buck plus more. The great thing about it is that you can basically make it however you want it. I manually updated mine to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. Which took some time because Huawei is a very new brand and I had to get used to there EmotionUI. Which didn't take long because its Android too. Just without the app drawer. So its kind of ahead because Android N is going that direction from what I hear. Also after rooting and installing BusyBox I tried to install xPosed. But the Huawei device wouldn't take it because they already have there own framework. So I started to tinker more with it and found out that yes indeed they have framework already. That's why it reads a message error when trying to install xPosed and it says something about xPosed not being compatible. I believe it has something to do with their EmotionUI. Not sure though because that's my first Huawei experience. The device is really solid though. Resolution can be tweaked and the display looks so gorgeous then. Values for everything can be tweaked to make the OS run liquid smooth and fast with very little noticeable lag or hiccups. Also the volume values can change as well giving it a more premium sound. Camera resolution was turned up along with high quality pictures. So the pics stayed sharp looking. Also when some values are entered it gives the gaming experience so much more life through the CPU and the GPU. Rendering gets way better too. Also changing the data values gives it more LTE speed too. Along with other values that make the browser loading times instantly. Even when being on the mobile data network seems like you would be connected to WiFi. It saves a lot of data too. And the battery is amazing. I'm trying to remember what other tweaks worked perfect for it and it ran with no problems. Oh yes it can multi task with up to four things going on. I got the app where you can, watch YouTube and Google something. And watch something on eBay all in different windows at the same time. It got warm but handles it very well. You should overclock it and have the battery set on smart mode. Oh yes and change the font. I had Disney font on it and went to a more modern font look. I'll let y'all know what else I did if I can think of anymore things. Just reply I will come back to this forum. It is my most favorite device of all at the moment. And Huawei is so new too.

So sorry the link is not working...I guess it's up to this thread if we can have enough people to put our thought and reviews together about this device. As of today, I started looking at battery life, Pulled out the charger at 7 AM, Now its 7 Pm and I still at 70%.

Can we use a T1 10 Pro Rom for this device? Any of our XDA programmers chime in...?
So I just bought a Huawei ascend mate 7... finished using the tablet phone as I am almost done with my school... It was a nice piece of hardware and convenient in not having to bring two devices... But now I need mobility so I will be selling this one soon on eBay. If only it had a good following to install a updated os ....

Needing advice - best stock firmware for battery/performance/stability

Hi there all - I've been digging through these forums, and all over the web, and have not found a definitive answer for this one.
I'd love to know what the best setup is for a stock ROM - I'm running 7.11 (latest 32.4.A.1.54) and I'm not too impressed with the battery life, even with a brand new battery. That version is stable for me, but I'm wondering who's tinkered with their phone enough to have a good baseline?
I'm wanting to root, and then run a debloated stock ROM. I'll happily apply some tweaks, but the ones I've seen on here appear to be no longer stable, or unrelated to my needs.
Who's settled on a really good setup for their Z5C? I want to get a final config and just use the thing until I upgrade - no more testing updates etc. I doubt we'll be getting many more official updates...

I'd be totally willing to give it a go - it just seems that all the ROMs I've found have one or two decent 'not working' issues. I'll look into it - thanks for the recommendation.
Last Android 5, 32.2.A.0.305_R5C gave me, yes I am a light user, 10 (ten) days!
Then 6 came and it almost halved.
Fingerprint unlocking was better on 6, so I didn't go back to 5.
Phone battery was fresher then of course.

That's amazing! What do you get on 6? 7 has not been good battery-wise for me.

On 6: it was a 4-6 days. Now on 7.1.1 (32.4.A.1.54_R3E) 3 days, but nowadays a use the device more intense (GPS always on). I have ForceDoze installed. Don't expect wonders from ForceDoze.
I am not monitoring it very close anymore, just accepted that it isn't over week anymore!
On 5 I had not ForceDoze installed, bus disabled some things (usually GPS off)
You guys, more than 2days means you are not REALLY using your phone!!! Or you are using it as a phone and not much more!!! Add Bluetooth connections, sometimes bad signal, location services, multiple messaging apps and mails to get the usual battery time of 1-2 days?
I'm intrested in this question too... Which is the best ROM for Z5c for STABILITY and STABILITY and features?
I installed eXistenZ on a Z3c and I really loved it. Everything working without a single bug and a lot of extra customizations thanks to eXistenZ app. Is there something similar for Z5c? Or an AOSP ROM without any single bug and perfectly stable?
Thank you

But is it better than stock ROM?
Im looking for the same thing as OP. Clean, stable and good battery life. But since messing with Sony roms and root is far more complicated than it is on a Samsung, LG and pretty much anything else, just havnt taken the time to try out everything. Hope anyone who has tried different roms can give their suggestions, thanks
Latest .11 MM stock rom is also very good.
I'm still using it daily on my Z5c, as I never updated it to Nougat (mainly because xposed was not supported months ago). It's stable and battery friendly. You should try it.
Doze and long-life battery features are there.
I cannot say if camera is better on Nougat, this is one of the most Important questions imo.
