Stock ROM Help - LeEco Le Max 2 Questions & Answers

Bought a Gearbest $234 Max 2 820 as a companion to my OP3. It's actually a decent phone. I immediately backed up the shipped with ROM and flashed X829_5.8.16s.zip (Aug security patch) which I read somewhere is a US ROM. It's running fine, hate the stock launcher but Nova is running great. I see there are newer ROMs but are these Chinese version ROMS? Just confused on which version I should be using. Thanks in advance.

Hello. The Chinese versions has always English but does not have Google but instead some Chinese apps.
There are two kinds of custom ROMs. The first eg Cuoko92 are based on EUI. Second eg Mokee are completely different but may lack of some features like IR. This will change because LeEco have just released source code. I am currently on Cuoko92 based on stock 18s and seems stable and reasonable.

Thank you for the help, I'm going to give Cuoko92 a run and see how it compares. Not the biggest fan of the fingerprint sensor on the back as my phone sits on the desk all day and with no double tap to wake I have to pick the phone up or press the button. It would be great for a kernal to support this. If it comes I'll part with the OP3 . Thanks again!

Dear collegue. I have found a kind of psychological support since I am just after a session of elaboration on fingerprint on Polish forum and have felt alone with the same filing abut this feature. I will try so far search for a solution with Xposed, but with time someone will hopefully put this in some Robards on open source from LeEco.

[ROM][4.3][ CM 10.2.] Unofficial CM 10.2 for Galaxy Note II (N7100)

It appears there is a new CM on the way... And it appeared it wasn't available for the Note 2... And that made me disappointed, so I set out to put that right.
4.3 is a small update from 4.2. Unfortunately, Google also decided to change almost everything about filesystem mounting. And Samsung exynos devices are a hotchpotch of everything...
Today, xplodwild and I carried out a war of attrition against the nasty Samsung devices. Firstly, there remains a battle-scar in the form of graphics, where we had to disable the ability of the device to screenshot itself. You'll see this in the lack of thumbnails for your long-press-home task switcher. #Blame-Samsung
Storage was a nightmare, but I have finally beaten it into submission. It should now work. Nicely. And properly. At least for now.
Because open source is wonderful, a VERY messy device tree (commits need squashed etc) - https://github.com/pulser/android_device_samsung_n7100/
I suggest a wipe before flashing, but I have tested from 4.2.2 and should be OK actually, maybe some apps will cry, but that's not my problem
Link: http://goo.im/devs/pulser/N7100/CM/cm-10.2-20130810-UNOFFICIAL-n7100.zip
Pretty much everything is working and tested - you shouldn't have any issues getting it to boot. The other version posted appears it may have issues booting, but I was not aware of its existence until just now. Actually, seems there's no link in the other thread, give this a shot, and see if it helps you. There's a lot of issues on Exynos devices when doing any kind of update... Sneeze and it might explode!

BTW (off-topic but... I believe necessary when it comes to AOSP and Exynos) When I click on your githup link the Audio recording fix is on top of the list for 6 months ago, which reminds me; we have never got the chance to see CM 10.1 recording audio properly on videos or sound record apps (not saying it is mono but the sound is terrible actually).. For now it seems the only thing that prevents me (and some others I guess) from using any AOSP ROM as a daily and "fully functional" driver is this problem. Any chance that we can see 10.2 have proper audio recording? Since our voice is recorded just fine on calls we can say the mic is working as it should on both at earspeaker and the loudspeaker. So, there is a software which can use the mics properly and I -with all my heart and never-ending hope- believe this software could be also used for good sounded video recording or help us not to shout too much for Google Now
Thanks for reading. And the ROM

works without a hitch. no bootloop nothing. simply booted up and worked. Huge thanks for that PulserG2 and xplodwild =)
Will try this new one tomorrow... Thanks!
BTW. Is anyone using GoBackup Pro or Titanium Backup? I had an issue on my Nexus 4 running 4.3 .
They didn't restored my Apps. Since the Note 2 uses a SD Card Slot, would it be the same issue?

This sounds like something more for the guys that did the work on the audio HAL. I've not looked into the solution, but audio on these devices is a dirty hack with tinyhal
there are some occasional rendering glitches with the stock browser while loading a page and scrolling through. nothing majorly bad but still visible at times.
(independent of the webpages i visited)
despite that I didn't come across any other bugs. once again great job :good:
finally glad to see the update in our devices thank you guys

Re 4.3 in general
I have been testing 4.3 on an "old" device , my Nexus S, the last couple of days. Interestingly, the device was much smoother than 4.2 based ROMs, at least on that limited processor device.
Once this all gets ironed out is there reason to believe that 4.3 will be better for our Note 2's?
Thanks for your work !

It really depends on your use cases...
I can make the fastest and most cutting edge android phone lag like crazy without installing anything silly...
I just need to type at my full speed on SwiftKey for about a minute and it will be lagging pretty horrendously. That's a bad app - SwiftKey is very poor lately for performance.
Why do I mention this? Well, your definition of better or smoother will really depend on what you are doing. Android is a horrendously complex operating system. It is ridiculously inefficient in many ways such as how data is presented to the user.
As such there are many badly written apps which will slow down your device. I reckon unless Google considers using native code for drawing the screens, we will never reach the true smoothness the hardware is capable of.
At the end of the day, a particular apple phone is available with lesser processor, graphics and RAM. Yet it offers smoother in-use performance because of its use of native code where possible, rather than a virtual machine based language like java.
I don't think it seems significantly faster than 4.2, but I probably am hard to please. I simply despair as I look at the code in android... All the nasty object orientation and strange ways to to things... Each and every time it happens, the java virtual machine must run instructions.
I reckon if you reduced the number of lines of code used to achieve simple tasks like show the settings menu (which is horrendous with resources in countless files and java classes), performance would be vastly superior.
Probably not much of an answer, but if anyone else is irritated by the horrendously inefficient code in android, I've finally found someone else who sees it!
That actually helps a lot. I think the processor and the device makes a difference too with the Nexus S being a "Google" device and the Note 2 being Samsung.
I just notice that when browsing Tapatalk that seems to be my main gauge - the scrolling seemed pretty smooth even on the Nexus S.
I read in the Nexus thread that the 4.3 code was written to run with less sytem resources but I wasn't sure of the source of that comment.

thanks! i flashed the 10.2 with the older official gapps... nothing seems to be wrong with it and everything is working
do you know what is new with the latest GApps as attached a few posts above?
Flashed it, and it's working good. For the 1st Build it's working quite fine. But the camera (app?) isn't working properly. I took one pic, the camera froze, and when I launched the camera again, it said "No connection to camera".
It's the first build so yeah.. this can happen of course

How many people are still using OxygenOS

I am not a big fan of the OS, i loved CM but none of the ROMs out there at the moment are any good. Is anyone else still using OOS or am I an odd man out
I'm using it because of horrible battery life on every CM baesd roms.
And I don't like how hydrogen works (app and memory management).

I'm only still on it because of the fingerprint scanner. Once the API is complete I'm moving straight over to CM 13. I can deal with the lack of SIM card control but the fingerprint scanner is a must.

I am also on Oxygen. I would maybe try CM13, once it would be official but I am happy with Oxygen OS with a different Kernel. Different kernel and a different launcher and everything is perfect

So true... for me life is a full circle, After staying on oxygen forever, switched to Skydragon OOS and then took plunge to SD H2Os as I noted it was much more actively being used by its author. Then shifted to CM13 but not happy with all these ROMS as they buggy and have some or the other limitation... though I desperately want a stable CM13 ROM with all sensors working... hate the lack of official support for many the famous ROMS... but love my OPT
Just because I want a full working Phone, stay un OOS.
I'm on OOS coz of fingerprint scanner ...
Why should I be on other Roms without fingerprint support when I have a scanner in my phone ...
H2O marshmallow 6.0 is much faster and stable than OOS.. and it's finger print sensor work much quicker
Now that CM13 has fingerprint.. I'm no sure what else is missing from it now.. But there's just something about it.. It still feels 'clunky' to me.. My opinion and experience of course! But for now I'll stick with Oxygen... Can't wait for CM13 though!!!

I have this same argument Can't wait for oos with mm
See this all the time.. BS.. Oxygen and even more so with the last update. Is a solid ROM. Better battery than any cm 13 and smooth not bloted. Yep.. I said it. Oxygen is a good ROM. People are quick to jump on the hate train and 90% of them do it just because..some just don't know better.
i'm still with oxygen because of the finger print sensor

Thank you to all the developers that made this phone even better!!
Many are still on oxygen. Slowly shifting to CM13 now I guess. Let's see what OnePlus brings with M build soon. I'll pick the most stable one as I only have 1 phone which is this as a daily driver

btw I wouldn't recommend it, I was trying it and it's preatty buggy and outdated. It doesn't have fm radio and it's using only bottom microphone for video recording (stock 6.0 uses both mics so there is stereo effect). It also doesn't support any new custom kernels because it wasn't updated for ages. The worst thing is that it slows down a lot after few days and you need to reboot. On stock 6.0 with squid kernel the performance drop wasn't that big, I was using it for 30 days without reboot and it was still pretty good.

I don't have any of those problems, except for msybe fm radio but I don't give a crap about that. But, I can flash squid kernel & I don't get performance drops often. So it's literally bug free for me. Maybe you should try flashing it again. After all, bad flashes happen.

My apologies you guys for not getting back earlier. I've been fumigating for bugs.
Those issues you were describing are the exact issues I'm dealing with today on my current ROM a popular CM based true to form option-heavy, stability-light ROM. This is a shame as its been fairly reliable platform for me. The occasional issue that was easily remedied with a reboot, a restore or a reflash. The past few months have been bug after bug for me. Mostly a pesky incompatibility issue with my ROM and OpenGapps.
Its seems all I've been doing lately is testing alternative gapp pkg sources, kernels and mods.
What makes this issue the real tops though is that the ROM I use was just listed as "Official" and "Stable" last month. There may be a weekly update waiting in the basket for me but the basket build server is down.
So....?
Not sure where to go from here. I'll tell you this much though. When I decided to try and root this device 8 months ago I had no idea it involved so much. I can almost write my own svripts, I'm understanding the bugreports I generate and read and i haven't spent this much time in a ToyBox since I was 9.
Lol. I'm not complaining though... I love to learn.
Oh and I still haven't tried the ROM you recommended as of yet. PC seems buggy now too.

Camera focusing issue

All of a sudden my camera just wont focus on long distances. Nothing happens when I touch the screen to focus "manually". Its only sharp focus on approxiametely 25 centimeter.
Do you think its hardware? I tried other apps but...

You most likely have a stuck lens. Turn off your phone put it in a freezer bag and put it in the freezer for about 10 minutes then while in the freezer turn on your phone and open camera and click on screen to force it to focus. See if that works out

Hi, I have same problem, just with linage os, mooke, RR ROMs. I today install stock ROM ( need send back phone) and find that camera work fine. After I flash again to android 7 ROMs and camera don't work. Again installed couple ROMs based on stock eui, stock Russian and Indian roms, on all this roms camera work perfect. Now go try linage 13 or mokee 6 android ROM.
I can confirm that FOCUS in EUI based ROM is fully working. In RR in my case - FOCUS did not work. I reroll back from RR to EUI (SmallEUI) and FOCUS works again.
If you have problems after reroll back to EUI at all, try to wipe internal storage too. Afterwards do a clean install via command console in TWRP. This step help me to begin my fingerprint works again. Maybe this helps FOCUS too.
i don't think its a hardware problem.if it is, why camera work fine on eui rom?
i also have focus issue,I hope and waiting for developer could find it out,and fix this issue.before that i Will use the eui rom.
通过我的 ONEPLUS A3000 上的 Tapatalk发言
It's a problem with Nougat based ROM's, I went back to indian stock EUI, and my camera problem dissapeared
Guys, I stumbled upon something that might help us. The focus issue is fully reproducible in older MM kernels. I remember some people had problems back then, but probably less were affected at the time. So we need to nail down what change fixed it. I tested multiple kernels and listed results here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=73557030&postcount=1047
Perhaps our kernel devs will have an idea how was it fixed around April/May or know who was involved in this? @infrag , @andr68rus ?

For me the most stable and functional CM ROM is the 'CM13 LeMaX 2 TeaMSpaiN RevolutioN' ROM. I've been using it since Xmas day with zero issues so far. There's also the 'Unofficial LineageOS' (CM14.1) ROM in mid development. I'm just about to try it. According to the OP everything works except for IR and the camera. No camera is a big problem, so I'm on the TeaMSpaiN ROM until they (hopefully) sort it. There's the 'CM13 MaX2 S19 UmBreLLaTeaM SpaiNTeaM' ROM. Slow motion issues and no IR. There was also one other CM13 I saw in the ROMS section. It was unnamed. I never checked it out.
The TeaMSpaiN RevolutioN ROM is likely the best atm. It benched just over 144k in AnTuTu, and it's stable. Not one FC for me so far. I haven't got into Xposed with it yet or tried tons of apps, so I'm sure there's some bugs. For general use though, I see no point switching unless they get the camera working in the 7.1.1 build. Hope that helps.

Just to let you know, the LinageOS build did not work for me last night. It sounds like you're comfortable flashing, so it shouldn't be a problem for you, but just a heads up in case it's your daily use device and you need it to work. It looks like cr3p is actively working on it though, so I do hope to see it become a solid platform.

I was a user of official mokee ROM from ffboy, the development now is stopped, it has a bug that is a no go for me, when Bluetooth is enabled the wifi stop working. I prefer a build with precompiled kernel from Teamspain or Umbrella, they are more stable.
That bug was there from the start, but it's true there is no development for our device

When I posted this I had done a full wipe of data and cache and flashed the LineageOS Unofficial clean. The result was about 2 minutes of boot screen followed by a solid black screen. When pressing buttons I could get a "Setup Wizard isn't responding", with options to wait or close. Either option resulted in black screen. I left the phone on during the day today, and several hours later I checked it and got the setup screen! I finished setup and it is now working. :good:
Camera does not work in this ROM.

Mokee is it's own OS. Not CM. If you're talking about the best ROM out there, I have no idea. I'm not completely new here (I try and search for answers, so almost never post), but I haven't been here for ages. Especially here in the Le Max 2 forum. I didn't hate EUI. There were a couple of things I liked, but CM13, stable and benching over 144k. I'll take it. For now anyway. There's a fair bit of fighting in the 7.1.1 ROM thread, so who knows if they'll work it out. They owe us nothing though, so we wait.
The question was "what is the best CM based rom?"
Mokee is CM based. Nevermind, I'll head to the lineage thread to see the fighting going on there ?
Edit: no fighting, very peaceful out there ?

My bad. Yeah it did seem to settle down. ffboy left officially so there wasn't really any point going on. A little back some guy claimed to have, as one member put it - 'the cure for cancer, but couldn't tell us until he'd spoken to his priest'.... heh. Something about him or a friend working with Qualcomm processors, but signed an NDA. Sounded a bit off. Who knows. I'm using Dual Boot Patcher to see what's out there. Great tool. Can try (edit) LineageOS, and quick switch to CM13 if I need the camera (unless it's a fast UFO sighting). Or whatever ROM you like. The only limit is storage.
Yup, ffboy was a very capable dev. He was able to port CM, MIUI and H2OS in very short time and was working on cm14 aswell.. well, let's wait and see

I installed and the phone is fast as hell, I installed the exposed too and I have all naugat features.
But the fingerprint it's a lil bit slow, there's no custom rom whit nice fingerprint reader to this mobile, only the stock one.

Cool. I'll have to get in to Xposed. The fingerprint feels like a memory thing to me. If you leave the phone for a while the first reads is slow, but straight after it's fast. Like the print images aren't cached. Doesn't bother me. It is a minus, but some reviewers are so spoilt for choice they make it a bigger deal than it is.
I'm am running the latest Mokee release 08-01-2017 with no issues on the FP and with only 1 print registered.
Super smooth, super quick.

Well maybe they fix it, that's cool. By I'm going to stay with the revolution ROM.

I still haven't tried the Mokee ROM. Something about a bot updating it worries me . If you think it's good, no harm in trying.
Edit : The FP speed in TS13 is confusing. Kinda random. Just used it now to start installing Mokee and it's near instant. Hadn't used the phone for hours. Go figure. The only constant is that it's always quicker after the first time.

Maybe thats because your system language is set to english? I read somewhere if you switch to english ( I have absolutely no idea why) it would work better. I tried, deleted all FP then switched to english, registered new FP and switched back to my language and it "seems faster".
Lost track of that ir patch (install via recovery) though.
Just tried Mokee. Don't really see anything special compared to CM, and multiple benchmarks put it a little under the revolution ROM. Also, it wont even pick up 3G on one of my sims, let alone LTE. Anyone know what the differentiator is between ROMS? I don't really like EUI, but it instantly finds LTE. The revolution ROM is kinda stubborn. It see's the 4G provider, but fails to register if I try immediately. I've worked out if I just wait a few minutes before choosing it registration works. The Lineage ROM picks up LTE fine like EUI.
Side note, for those who wanna try out dual/multiple OS. Turns out ROMS don't run slow on the other slots using Dual Boot Patcher. I had one of the bugged (slow) Lineage releases. I have 4 other ROMS installed atm. All work as expected and run at full speed. It's awesome and easy. Patch, flash, setup ROM. Then to switch, use the app or the DualBootUtilities zip within recovery. Reboot, different OS. No more 'which one do I pick?'.
