Unable to set data usage cycle date - Honor 5X Questions & Answers

Hi guys,
I'd like to get some help from you about the following issue. Because of different reasons I had to make a factory reset on my Honor 5X phone. After the successful operation, I can't set the turning/starting date of the data usage cycle, because i can't find the option in Data Traffic Management. Previously (when the device was running on Android 5 with emui 3) there was an input field to change the date, but now i can only set the "total monthly data available", but the date field is missing. Can you tell me where or how can i set this date?
Actual build number is KIW-L21C432B340, android 6.0.1, emui 4.0
Thank you in advance!
P.S. The remaining and used amount of data info is also missing from above the chart...

your right they removed the option in MM
all you can do is find another app to monitor your usage or hope for an update

There are plenty of apps in the Play Store as an alternative. Search for them.

Thanks clsA, it was my suspicion as well. It's quite infuriating, they removed such a useful option. And do they really call it development?? I don't want to be a troll, cause anyway i prefer marshmallow to lollipop, but it is ridiculous. Installing a new app just because the option was removed from the os? It's wasting the resources...

Actually it´s hidden. You need a program to enable system shortcuts. I just dont remember its name...

zinko_pt how do you mean "system shortcut"? Will I be able to reach a hidden option with any kind of application?

I guess he's saying that the data usage is hidden in Settings activities. You can try Activity Launcher app.

OK, my problem wasn't that i can't find the deeply buried data usage in settings, but the ability of setting the first day of the cycle is missing. Otherwise everybody can easily make shortcut for data usage by phone manager.

Thats not what he meant....
He meant although the option you're looking for isn't available in the settings , it is still embedded in the core android platform... You just have to dig through the activity laujcher to find it...

Hello Nucleo, how are you?
I'm actually facing the same thing, I can't get real info about the android-cycle dates, can you please give me a hint for me to look up on the Activity Launcher?
Thanks you very much!

Hi Yazmeq,
First of all You should install Activity Launcher from Play Store. After launching the app, tap on "Recent Activities" (in the header) and choose All activities. Wait a bit while the app loads some data and scroll down on the appeared list to Settings and tap on it. Search for Data usage and "click" on the cycle date above the chart to change it. Set the new turning date and it's all. Now You can quit the app, the new data usage cycle has been set. You might uninstall the app if you wouldn't like to have it since you're short of storage space.

Thanks for the detailed explanation!! this issue was driving my crazy!!

Will this work for the Honor 6X running EMUI 5 / Nougat? I tried, but unless I'm doing something wrong, I can't seem to find the data reset date setting.

Data monitor from play store by Sony?
Yes
Touch the bell icons at the usage bar, you'll find a pop-up editor for data alert.
If you want to know your usage, android has nothing to do with it, contact your service provider.

Mmm... I flashed a .48 firmware in my Xperia Mini and I can't find the Data Monitor... is there a way to download it from any store?
Umm... Here you go
From PC : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sonyericsson.android.datamonitor
From android : market://details?id=com.sonyericsson.android.datamonitor
Search from Market/Play Store for Data Monitor.
Ah and can't be edited indeed. Only app that I have seen that allows it, was Traffic Statistics(or sth like that).

For some reason, I have a bad feeling that the app might miss some data movements indeed...Even though I cannot confirm this due to ROM changing at beginning of month and not having all data.

It's because of the "Background task cleaner" that got introduced with latest update. Just find it in Settings and whitelist whatsapp and you're good to go.
That was it... thank you for the tip!

whatsapp and background task cleaner
Had same problem with WhatsApp, but whitelisting it in background task cleaner seems to have worked for me. Thanks for advice!
Hoping it will fix Waze problem too - Waze started to navigate erratically with random errors, so I've whitelisted that.

You can find it from Settings / Background task cleaner. Select all apps you want to whitelist or disable whole task cleaner.

Not sure if you found out how, but just read your post - simply go into settings and go to background task clear and choose apps you wish to exclude (whitelist) in this case WhatsApp ;0)

What is it doing that it shouldn't?
Could you use Huawei backup and factory reset?
To my way of thinking that is preferable to allowing a stranger access to my phone.

I'd be happy to give suggestions on settings but they would be my own personal preference and probably not 100% what you would like.
I've watched enough of your videos to see a lot of things disabled that I would leave on by default or go about it a different way
Eg exchange services and email app. I just disabled the app along with the default Huawei launcher as I use Nova launcher.
Many apps depend on how you use them whether they need access to location, camera etc. Are you on a tight data plan?
What I'm saying is I don't know enough about what you use on your phone, how much battery and data are you trying to save etc etc. Disabling stuff is a trade off with functionality.

GPS tracking: ascent issue

Hello
I noted an issue in the way the Note 5 GPS gets the altitude data.
I tracked the same Hiking with endomondo on my Iphone SE and my Note. While the distance made is similar on both, the elevation is totally different.
Iphone SE: +230/-210 m
Note 5: +1102/-1096 m
As you can see there is a factor x5 between both devices for the same tracking. I know that ascent can be approximate but here the difference is really too much.
Do you get the same erroneous data?
I tried several times, and always the same result. For some hikings I even knew more or less the expected total elevation, and iPhoneSE was really close to it while the Note 5 was way out of range...
Cheers
This is a budget friendly Chinese phone.. don't expect it's GPS to be equal to Iphone

I've had this problem like Strava at miui. In AOSP roms all measurements are normal, I believe that miuides turn gps on or decrease accuracy when locking the screen. Download the GPS Status and Toolbox app and give it permissions to start automatically and put in the multitasking lock. Leave this app running along with the measurement app you use and test, give me the results.

Ok thanks, I did not know this multitask lock feature actually.
Looks like there is not auto-start on Miui though. But I guess that as soon as it is started and locked in parallel of my tracking app (Endomondo) it will be ok, right?
I will test and let you know

Hi. I m facing same issue. Pls tell me how you fix it. TIA
Another app 'App Freezer' (com.real.clearprocesses) is causing it.
For those who don't know the fix, go to Settings (your phone settings), find 'Accessibility' (it may be inside something like additional settings) and scroll down until you find app names. Check which apps are 'On' and turn them off one by one until it's fixed.
Look also for Switch Access. Probably you changed settings there.
