Upgrading - T-Mobile LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Tired of seeing the new update notification. Looking at upgrading my phone. Unfortunately, I don't install ROMs all the time, so I tend to forget the steps / applications needed to upgrade. I'm rooted, and bootloader is unlocked.
Can anyone help?

Take a screenshot of current t about phone under settings so we know which version you are running

So there are now two newer versions out there, the latest only has an OTA no kdz, and if you flash it as is you will loose root
I suggest wait until there is a method to keep root and flash the latest, which I'm sure will be soon

Okay, thank you. I have the "j" version downloaded. The new one is "l" correct?
Last time I tried updating to the "j" version, LG Up wouldn't recognize my phone.

L is the latest, if you want to flash j right now feel free
There are two Roms by eliminater74 and one by andy_zahng
For any of these choice you do not need LGup, so long as you are previously rooted
Just flash firmware (part one) via TWRP
Then flash any of those three Roms via TWRP
Reboot,
You will have j rooted
But being i tend to recommend a full wipe i would say wait until the latest L is out in a flashable .zip, should be soon

Lollipop Firmware Help

Hi.
I want to upgrade to the Lollipop builds from my m8. I am currently running the GPe 4.4.2 rom, and was wondering which firmware I should flash. Im looking at the sense 4.4.4 firmware and I was just wondering if I can flash any sense 4.4.4 firmware or will I have to get a specific one for the AT&T m8. Thanks in advance!
If your running GPE than your unlocked,CWM/TWRP,rooted so that's good.how about S-OFF?
As far as upgrades it all depends on how fast you want it.
at&t being on the low end of the list for receiving OTA's
Fully converting to GPE would ensure a faster update but will lack the Sense version lollipop look and feel.
Read around and become more familiar with what options you have
I already am s-off and know what the Gpe conversion does and how I will loose sense. But I was wondering on my main thread which file of the sense 4.4.4 firmware I should flash.
But thanks anyways

3.28.401.6 or .7 will work fine
No such thing as lost sense for good.you can go back from converted
Yeah I'm still trying to figure out how to back pedal to sense partition. There are a few different threads telling different things to do. From what I can understand to back pedal from gpe to sense. You just download 1.54, factory reset, flash custom recovery, flash ROM..
Is this firmware for the US Dev HTC One m8 or is it the international unlocked? Since the ATT M8 and the US Dev M8 have identical hardware, I just want to make sure I use the proper firmware.

Correct..imo do not use euro firmware on an att device. Use the firmware made for the device your on. Here soon i dont think youll be able to interchange firmwares shortly with euro devices without causing major issues.

So do you think the firmware version above will work with the AT&T M8 or should I be looking for another firmware?
There are 3.28.1540.5 firmware packages available for flashing. I would suggest using it or change cid and flash ruu3.28.1540.5 which will update you to latest firmware.Paramus Nj?

You may have accidentally renamed the file firmware.zip.zip by having the file extensions hidden in Windows (it certainly looks that way from the screenshot of your file folder).
Did you change your cid? Looked at pics command should only be fastboot flash zip firmware.zip not all the other strings in the command.
Looks like its in a folder named adb so you should cd into that folder once there the command above should be entered.

Rename it to just "firmware" and use the full command again (don't change the command)
Thanks everyone for the help!
I succesfully flashed the firmware and flashed the SD Lollipop rom. Everything is working fine and I have encountered no issues.
Once again thanks for your help!

Full unroot with SuperSU but cannot install L

I have rooted with towelroot and installed supersu.
After a while I did a full unroot with supersu and uninstalled both. Then an official security update came and it installed just fine but now I get a 0x1111004 error (this device is suspected in rooting) when I try to install L.
I am a complete noob, so could you please point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
you need to flash 4.4 kdz then ota or straight to 5.0.2 kdz
because lg root security detected that you had root

Problems updating stock 4.4.4 to 5.1

Hi there,
sorry for bothering you with my problem but I really cannot figure out what I am doing wrong. I am running a pure stock version of 4.4.4 on my international version of the moto E, with no root and no unlocked bootloader. I am willing to update to the latest 5.1 build but whitout unlocking the bootloader and stuff.
From what I understand the first step to do so in the easiest way possible would be to download the first 5.0.2 soak (22.21.32 341MB) update and put it into the main SD card. From then the phone should detect the update from the settings, but mine isn't.
I have already tried sideloading the update by going to the recovery and choosing update from adb. Also I have developer options enabled.
Thanks for your help.

Well, 1st of all let me tell you, that you are completely going the wrong way.... You DO NOT need to flash 5.0.2.... From what I know, factory images of XT1021 for official Android 5.1 lollipop are available...
Check this LINK
There are three versions, choose the appropriate one. Download it, and use mfastboot to flash the latest FW (Don't worry, because these are signed images and will work on devices with locked bootloader)
If u think that these are quite complicated, just hit the play store, make sure that Motorola Update Services app is updated.... and wait for the OTA.
If you are 100% sure that you have not unlocked the bootloader, then pm me, I will give the instructions to flash the fw.
Cheers

Why didn't att just play nice and update to V3? Instead they update To V4 so I can't flip flop between t-mobile firmware and there's. Does root still work? On the other hand, I can flash Verizon firmware I guess.

I can't root, looks like it's back to the drawing board. It figures this happen as soon as I feel it necessary to root my device......
I advise everyone to not take any OTAs after the first August patch so you can still be able to root and flash roms. It isn't a problem for me since I wasn't planning on rooting this phone again anyways..

@raremind couldn't root on BL4. It's unfortunate how we can't root on API2, but if the developers are willing to find out a new way to gain root access on API2, then it wouldn't be the end of the world for anyone who wants the latest OTA but still want root.

Android 7 OTA after recovery flash

Hello,
I have the following phone:
Moto Z
XT1650-03
RETEU
Android 6.0.1 MPL24.246-45
When I got the phone I only unlocked the bootloader en flashed TWRP recovery.
Now the Android 7 OTA update is released. I got the popup for de OTA update but it wasn't able to install the update because of TWRP Recovery.
After that I flashed the recovery with a stock recovery from the stock Android 6.0.1 MPL24.246-17 ROM, found in a Moto Z official/stock ROM forum here on XDA. After that I downloaded the OTA update again on my Moto Z, it starts with installing the update, then it restarts in recovery, it seems work fine when I see the stock recovery screen with installing the update, but after a few minutes I get an "Error!" with the "Android man with open belly" symbol. Luckily the phone stil boots and is working fine.
What's going wrong with the OTA update? Mismatch between the rom (MPL24.246-45) and recovery (MPL24.246-17) version?
My goal is to get stock Android 7 on my Moto Z. Who can tell me what's the best step for me to achieve this? Should I try another recovery to get the OTA update working?
Thank you!
Same happened to me when i tried updating the new 540mb update over Nougat. I think it happened because of the kernel (disabling force encryption), not sure :/

Ok, thank you for your answer. But I did not do anything with encryption... And how did you solve this, are you able to install that update now?
I gave my phone to the service center today and told them that it happened after the OTA update. I have my fingers crossed that they don't find out about the unlocked bootloader before fixing it.

Ok, I already flashed de stock .45 Recovery from Rogers.
My plan is the following:
- Reset device to factory defaults
- Download the OTA update to the device, just how it's meant to be
- See if it wil update successfully now
Or what can you recommend me to get to fully stock Nougat? This one:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z/development/android-nougat-moto-z-versions-t3506342
Or wait and stay on Android 6.0.1 till there is more information/ROM's/updates about this device? I know something about flashing/ROM's (before I had a OnePlus One with Cyanogen) but not as much as you guys do and I don't want to brick my device
