"Hacking" Online Course offer - What do you think? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys and girls,
don't know if this is the right sub-forum but I hope this place is okay... I just saw this offer from pocket lint today...
https://deals.pocket-lint.com/sales...-white-hat-hacker-bundle&utm_term=scsf-135083
It is called "White Hat Hacker 2017 Bundle" and offers linux programming, android hacking and other stuff. The price is not fixed, some kind of supply and demand thing I guess...
Anyhow... Are any people here who know how to program and who think that this could be worth buying? I am undecided right now... it is not much money but on the other hand I dont wanna buy something useless
Thanks in advance.
Greetz Ric

Buy it and give everyone ????

Scam. There's nothing there you can't learn better with some hands on practice.

$10.000 for a Froyo on X10

Yes, I know there is already a post where people promise to reward devs for porting Froyo on X10. Unfortunately, the person who created it doesn't track how much money people pledged anymore (he stopped at $1000 and now we're close to $4000 in donations).
This post is an idea and statement on the situation and feelings of many (I would dare to say most) Xperia X10 users have.
In short: SE f...ed us and we, users can't do anything about it. The company is in the deep mess and can't decide if update for a few days before release. They just probably won't update X10 and that's it. We bought expensive hardware, we signed long contracts. For those living in countries where operators embrace Android it's only question of money to cancel your contracts and buy a new phone. For people living in some places there is really no hope because carriers don't carry/support anything else (Android is not really embraced by carriers outside of the US).
So, what's with $10.000?
Well, look at every single forum and all comments from people. The rage is enormous, people are really desperate.
At this point it's really obvious that anybody who ports stock Froyo on Xperia X10 can ask for any reward and people will donate the money. There is enough of us just on this forum to gather probably a round $10.000 or more. If you could port Froyo before SE releases 2.1 and show us prove of everything running fine I would guess it wouldn't take the community more than few days to hit $10.000 in donations.
We appreciate all effort by the devs who are working on it without thinking of the reward. Yet, devs are people too and should get paid for accomplishing what SE can't or is not willing to do.
Lastly, as we all lost all respect for the SE you will gain a respect and recognition among all of us that would live forever in hearts and minds of us, poor Xperia users.
Help by spreading it!
LOL @ $10.000?
i think its $10000
Depends what country you are in, most european countries use decimals instead of commas and vice versa.
eg 1,500.55 vs 1.500,55
Back on topic, £20 from me
So far its:
2066$
30 +20 £
50 €
We are far from 4000.It would be great but not yet.
it would be best to keep donating in the original thread.
I think that the only way money will help, is if we are able to get an open bootloader, and a way to flash it easily, without extra hardware - probably from a current/previous SE programmer, or someone similar.
Devs probably won't buy the phone (X10, x10 mini or pro) unless they like it.
Also an SE programmer is likely to be able to access all of the x10 bootloaders if they can get to at least one.
the approach is wrong dude ... for $10.000 we should be able to bribe some se coder in giving us the infos/software we need ... just a thought ...

Seriously though, saying $10,000 is a long shot
I think you can only make promises you can keep
Gawd SE are EVIL

Negotiations? What do you have in mind?
I'll definitely give away $50 bucks for the developer(s) that accomplish this! 2.2 on my xperia would be so wonderful!

Won't work, not in a way we could use dontions anyway. The bootloader is locked becuse of DRM and other legal reasons and I seriously doubt anyone with the stuff we need would risk breaking the NDA they had to sign to work on it. The lawsuit they'd be slapped with would be massive and even a hundred times what we're able to pledge wouldn't be able to sort that out.
Money is tracable, especially online donations. Something like a wikileaks submission could work, anonymously providing the docs but then who would get the cash?

TG01 for a Developer

Edit: Closed per OP request. ~TheRomMistress
Hi,
I purchased the TG01 in February and I have lost my temper with it because it's so horrible, but I know there are a few developers out there looking for a real device to work with, so I thought I'd sell it.
I'm looking for anything over £65, It's in good working order with a few scratches on the screen and it's generally in OK condition, but the speaker is quite quiet.
If you're interested please reply to this thread.
Thanks
PS, I will consider swapping phones if you want

Hold that thought, we might be able to buy it from you for the Android project if we can raise the money. £65 shouldnt be too difficult to raise!
Please dont sell it before speaking to us about it.
I'm in Blackburn Lancashire, whereabouts are you?

.. is there an Android TG-01 developer fund - I'll contribute if you're able to buy a cheap TG-01
i'll contribuite too..
I have posted in the Android discussion thread and Alex has kindly offered to hold the donations:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=672234&page=25
decide between yourselves if you will and start a donations thread and get the money rolling. Someone needs to pm tjcooper17 to ask him if hes still got it and whether he's happy to wait until the money is raised.
I'll ask dzo (or any developer users recommend with a track record for Android development) once we have confirmation that the purchase is going to happen.
Best of luck
tjcooper17 can you post some pics of the device since you say it has some scratches and also what comes with the phone, is the box, charger and everything with it and lastly is it sim locked to orange or unlocked?
Hi guys,
I'm in Shaftesbury, Dorset. The device is locked to Orange, I'll post some pictures in just a minute and I'll send it with everything I got in the box:
Phone
Charger
Manuals
USB to PC Lead
CD Drivers
I should be able to get you the device including delivery for £70 if that's OK.
Pictures in just a second
I'm having real trouble uploading the pictures at the moment, is there an email address i can send them to?

I think he wants to show us the phone.
Well, I believe him anyways
@tjcooper17:
What about making the pictures smaller?
Than you could place them here at xda as an attachment on your next post.
Sorry to butt in on this thread! We have a donation thread for TG01 Android development :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=804051
.. and a direct link to PayPal :
https://www.paypal.com/uk/cgi-bin/w...63663d3faee8dc60d77e6184470d51976060a4ab6ee74
.. so far, £15 has been donated
Regards,
Alex.
OK I've compressed them quite a bit, didn't realise how big they were.
thanks for the pics.
The thread for the donations has been closed down by mods.. I'll pm the mod on how we can do this without collecting money on here. The only other way I can think of is if enough people pledge to put money towards the phone, then we donate to you directly.
Leave it with me.

It appears that the word donations is contentious.
So if we want to do this, the best thing is everyone PLEDGES what they are willing to put towards a device on this thread, once we have enough money and a developer who wants to help, we can pay tjcooper17 someway and get him to send the device to the developer.
Sorry about the mess, I guess these things are there to protect xda users from fraudulent transactions so its probably wise not to ignore them.
On that note, I will say if anyone has any suggestions how this can be done without hickups, please feel free to put your ideas forwards.
Lastly, Endrix is the lead developer here, I have been asked why I am not accepting the device myself, it is simply because I do not possess the reverse engineering skills to take this project forward and neither do I have the time to learn to do so.
I am quite happy to help out where I can and look forward to purchasing a tg01 if android is successfully ported to it which I look forward to being a part of.

Online Full Sail Mobile Development Bachelors
WOW!
I might be happy doing this for myself, what are the pays, anyone know yet? I don't mean greediness, but I'm also loving it.
Interesting. I teach at fullsail and was unware of such a program. If anyone is interested in it let me know and If there are any questions about the program that you can't have answered let me know, and I will see if I can find anything.

Edit: Yea that came off as a sales pitch and thats not the case. If I can be of any help I would be more then happy to, but I will also give you my personal opinion

Very nice. I will probably take the online courses for Mobile Development next year.
As an alumni of EBBS I'm quite happy to see Full Sail to offer more courses focused for this market!
My buddy went to Full Sail for Show Production and Touring. i went down several times to visit him. the Full Sail staff is awesome. everybody was just cool and easy to get along with. good to see they're branching out into mobile development!
For any of those who end up deciding to enroll, here is something that might end up being useful...
[APP] Full Sail Online Mobile
@alekosy
did you enroll & grad? how is it?
i was thinking about going here for Audio Production/engineering..but thats too far from my home state
i think i'm going to enroll for the online mobile development...i spoke to an admins rep and shes helping me get going with fafsa and all that stuff...i've heard mixed reviews about the course..saying it's out of date and its too specific, but i've done research..i have an associates in graphic design and i think this bachelors will make a world of a difference
I am currently a student of the online Mobile Development program living in California trying to complete it. I can tell you it is pretty hard if you are working full time.
I am currently in my second year and I am struggling. I really enjoy being a Full Sail student, but you have to be prepared to have a TON of information thrown at you super fast. That is probably the biggest challenge. Imagine never once having worked with a language such as Javascript, and have it thrown at you in a single month while working full time and having a family. Its difficult.
Each course is only a month long, and the amount of stuff you have to absorb is overwhelming. But again, this is what we sign up for. I struggle a lot and I am under constant pressure, but there is a sense of accomplishment when you actually see your projects come to fruition.

[Q] Custom Android hardware development?

I have some ideas for a heavily customized Android tablet for an industrial use. Most of the customizations involve taking things OUT and locking stuff down, durability a plus as well.
I sent a couple emails to Chinese companies but didn't get any response, and am also a bit worried about them stealing my ideas and running with 'em.
Any pointers/advice?
When your idea is greater then great then can you register your idea with patents.
But you need to know that patents are realy expensive and some company's copy all things what they see.
You can better search for a buddy who has knowledge for manufacture in China or an other cheap country.
know that big companies like Foxxcon make only big orders.
Yep, that's pretty much where I'm at right now. Not sure of how to proceed patent-wise and not really wanting to work with Chinese companies either way.
Cheap isn't paramount for this application, if anybody knows of any more local resources for android hardware I could talk to...
Only have time for a real quick reply right now to a very deep topic...
I would say your best bet is to look into various 'open source' models. Look at the the DIYdrone community. You can get Android running on a little ARM processor. Or for a turnkey dev solution:
liquidware.com/shop/show/BB-AND-DEV/Android+Hardware+Development+Kit
Throw it in a Pelican case and you've got yourself a proof-of-concept. Which is what you're gonna need to raise any venture capitol if you pick that route...
As far as patents... this can also get you some credibility with venture capitalists... you can file a patent yourself for pretty cheap but don't expect it to hold against any big boys though...
Good luck, there's a lot to learn, making a bunch of Engineering/Programming/Business friends and having your girl pick the outfit before the big pitch!
Cheers
Android on a chip
Hi koob,
Thanks for the useful reply. Do you have any additional tips on getting Android running on the simplest circuit possible?
Using phones for development is possible but not ideal as we're using some of the newer features of the OS (e.g. ADK), and unlocked phones supporting it are somewhat expensive.
I'm interested in two stages, prototyping (I couldn't find much in the DIYDrones community on this), and manufacturing (maybe companies like Shenzhen Xinkenmingteng Industry Technology on Alibaba could take a functional spec or a PCB design?).
Many thanks for your help.
Bump! I would also be interested in hearing more about this, as we want to develop a custom mobile monitoring device, using Android so as to save us the effort of writing firmware for the wireless communications, display, touchscreen, etc. Like TheCritic, we're interested in locking it down - replacing the OS's main functionality with some skin or app we write ourselves.
The Liquidware Android Hardware Development Kit is interesting, but has many things we don't need and misses a few things we do. We're just not sure where to begin choosing the hardware and working with the kernel, device drivers, etc. Any pointers would be very appreciated.
Any progress here?
I have a pretty similar situation. Having a cool idea that would need only a few features from android. Did you develop your platform? Or found someone who did it for you?
Nothing other than what's seen here, though there were more useful replies than I'd remembered to this thread!

what's more important: the idea or the programming?

i have a great idea for an android app (i'm sure you've heard that before!). but really, it's intriguing enough for me to consider either pitching to a programmer OR learning myself. i don't know how important just having the idea/funding is vs. doing it myself. plus there is always the issue of someone stealing your idea if you hire an outside programmer. thoughts?
if you want to earn money then idea, if you want customer satisfaction then programming
how do you go about finding someone to program that you can trust and won't steal your idea? there are thousand of apps out there, surely someone has done this.
