Ideas for getting out of boot loop after flashing bad boot.img ZTE Warp Elite - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay so like the title says I have a ZTE Warp Elite (N9518) with a locked bootloader. I had a temp root on it but wanted to see if I could get a perm root so I unpacked the boot.img, edited the build.prop and turned off verification in the qccom.fstab. After this I flashed it to my boot partition by using
Code:
dd if=/sdcard/boot.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p20
After flashing, I rebooted the phone but the carrier logo would not show up after the zte splash screen. The screen would turn off and the notification light would stay on. So to me this sounds like I have bricked the phone. I have a stock recovery so I can only flash signed zips from zte. I tried flashing a update.zip from them but I got a message saying "This package is not a ks package" and the installation was aborted. I haven't been able to get the phone to go into fastboot mode either.
So what do y'all think? Can anyone think of a way I can access adb or get my hands on a zte signed update.zip with a boot.img?

Since you end up in a bootloop now solution is flashing. Things you need
1- stock Firmware
2-usb drivers
3-flashtool and etc file
4- PC/Lappy
Check this guide for more info and also let me know if that info was helpful. And Dont forget to hit thanks

You probably already solved this but to anyone else.. Find the EDL package on here and then use it along with MiFlash to flash everything, after flashing go into recovery, hard reset, reboot.. profit.
I just spent three days + on this phone trying to get QFiL, emmcdl.exe, ZTE's own software, and countless other apps to flash the EDL firmware and accept the firehose.. I ended up doing it manually first with emmcdl.exe (had to reboot every file flashed.. back into EDL mode) then i flashed all again with XML's using MiFlash 2016 Beta Version.. TRICK IS ---> AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO EDL MODE HIT START ON MIFLASH TO START FLASHING ELSE IT NEVER WORKS!
Hope that helps some of you!

Your guide you linked will not work... It is not meant for Qualcomm phones which is what the N9518 ZTE's SoC. is

My Moto E Hangs when I try to boot a TWRP image
Attempted procedure:

A reboot to that TWRP was expected instead. But it freezes on bootloader.
TWRP used on the attempt:

Sometimes booting recovery doesn't work...You will have to flash it. Perhaps you can flash the stock recovery after successful root? though i am not sure that will work
Also try booting into CWM
Tried the same method with CWM.img
Same result: fastboot frozen (volume buttons not responsive, and PC no longer sends commands)
To flash the stock recovery I would need to back it up first
But guess what's needed to backup ?
Yes, a temporary flashed bootloader with ZIP support
Would you know someone, who knows someone, who knows an master from MTI or Hogwarts or Narnia that knows an alternative ?
I would flash a mod right away if I could backup the original first...
(Unless, as I don't know exactly how this works, the ROM might come with the bootloader (?) Because the stock ROM I can download easily anywhere (already did))

Hi,
Did you managed it to work? I have exactly the same problem. If I even flash twrp or cwm I still can't boot into it, there is only "no command" message.
I can't get any help anywhere, it makes me crazy. Do you have any custom recovery that worked for you after flashing?? I'm even starting to think that my device is broken somehow.

I did NOT flash the recovery yet
I'm trying to run the recovery without flashing it, to avoid problems like yours
You said you flashed both CWM and TWRP ?
And Neither one of them worked ?
I'm screwed too, then...
:crying:
See if you can find the stock recovery somewhere
And NOT here
This forum is not good for it
It's too much phone specific... too narrow... and we get no attention; specially with our "not-mainstream" phone
Generic instruction could work
If you take any action, or find any forum you find helpful, let me know

I too have tried booting the recovery ,but it doesn't work. You will have to flash it
if you are seeing 'no command' message it means that you still have stock recovery and the custom recovery wasn't flashed successfully.

None of them worked. I'm going to resign, because there is nothing I can do. Seems you have exactly the same problem as me. What I tried:
- fastboot boot recovery.img. Phone hangs on bootlogo
- flash recovery, then use go to recovery option in fastboot menu. In this case, 2 possibilities: with usb cable connected, it boots normally to system, not to recovery. With usb cable disconnected, screen goes black and phone looks like powered off. You will need to power it on and it will boot to system.
- On running system with usb debugging enabled. If you type "adb reboot recovery", you will end with dead robot and "no command" error. You can however press VolUP +Power on this screen and you will see Android 3e recovery.
If you have the same problem as me, you are completly lost and it's impossible to intall recovery on your device. I'm close to resign and say "**** this ****ty phone" because (as you already mentioned), there is no any attention on my questions, twrp support was dropped long time ago etc.
Flashing recovery should not wipe your data, so once you try to flash twrp or cwm, please let me know about your results. I'm sure I will never able to solve this problem, but I will feel better knowing that I'm not alone whit it

Ok, I'm finished. It's not possible. F U C K Motorola and good night. My advice: don't waste your time if you have the same problem. You will get nothing, except wasted time. It's good that it's not my phone (I own OnePlus One). But I was asked to install CM12.1 on my friend's phone. It's impossible, so I will need to tell him I was failed with that.

I see people complaining about bugs or not-working features on the first link
Are you sure it's safe ?
It's not the official TWRP (apparently)
When I google for this bootloader the official page shows version 2.7.1.0
Whereas on your second link they are on the 2.8.2.0
Which one should I trust ?
And to anyone who might answer:
Trough PC is the only/safest way to flash these recoveries ?
Seeing giaur on that situation puts me stepping back...

I tested both: latest official 2.7 and linked 2.8. So they are safe. Official support for Moto E was dropped long time ago.

Cool
Regarding to safety
Should I flash CWM or TWRP ? Why ?
Regarding the method
Flash through usb->Fastboot or through Apk (like CWM)
Or a third method ?
And why
Between TWRP 2.7 and 2.8, which one is safer ?
And of course...why ?
And a last question, before I leave you guys alone:
Did you manage to root the phone, despite the poblems occurring to you, giaur ?
Once you succesfuly flash twrp, you need to flash supersu then and you are rooted. If you don't have your current system rooted, the only way to flash custom recovery is to flash via fastboot. TWRP is recommended, because it's way better
I can't say anything more, because my moto e is not flashable, so I can't replace stock recovery.
Yo !
Flashed TWRP
But wiped things I shouldnt
How to put the ROM back via USB ?
EDIT:
NEVERMIND
Found how to use SD to do that

I was also struggling a lot many days into getting twrp and cw loaded on to a Moto E. The problem was that I was pressing the Power button to activate the recovery menu and that will not activate the recovery option. You got to press the UP button instead of power after executing
Code:
fastboot.exe flash recovery twrp-2.8.1.0-condor.img
. This is quite counter intuitive but described well in most posts, but as experts we assume up button is to go up the menu.

Bricked G2 Mini

Hi! I've managed to brick my device (d610ar) badly, i think
the device doesn't boot normally (message "Secure booting error! Cause: boot certification verify.", and i am stuck there), can't charge it with the wall charger, and the only thing that works is download mode; but flashing a kdz with LG FlashTool (the way i went back to stock a few times) says flashing and at 2% (or 3% sometimes) it says that doesn't find the device, that i have pull out the battery to reconnect my device again and when i do that it does the same thing on a loop, asking to do it again later..
the funny thing is that it appears on device manager on windows, on com port 11 for example, but the FlashTool doesn't recognize it..
so, i can't flash any kdz and doesn't boot.. i've read around here in xda to enter fastboot to fix it, but.. can this device enter fastboot? i couldn't do it, tried adb too and couldn't make the device visible..
i, before this happened, had multirom installed, rebooted to recovery and deleted secondary roms to install in primary rom cm12.1.. there started to happen strange things when rebooted normally to configure it..
after a while trying to boot found around here in xda too that i could enter twrp recovery via hardware keys to reinstall again, so got into it and installed a flashable zip to come back to stock KitKat directly, that have worked for me before..
after that rebooted and i can't do anything else than download mode..
i kinda figured that the problem must be that multirom injected the boot sector after installing the stock flashable zip, and when i did that restored the stock aboot and abootb (these, modified carefully, allowed us to unlock bootloader and flash recoveries, etc, etc.. ; by the way, many thanks to the devs that discovered it and made the guides!)..
now i have read the instructions for flash via fastboot the stock boot.img and so pass the security verification, but i can't enter it..
so, what do you think that could be the next step? or is it really hard bricked and i should forget about it? i'm really hoping to recover it but i don't know what else to do..
sorry for the bad english, not my primary language
thanks for reading and i am hoping to hear some suggestions!
He is not hard bricked you need to flash stock boot and reunlock bootloader if you have custom recovery still installed, but go first with the eazy way search xda about lg flash tool stuck at 2% there some guides to help you get kdz flashed
Thank you very much!

Thank you very much! You made me realize why wasn't working..
Because of you, i started to search threads related with the "flashtool stuck at 2%" and one of the things to look at was a txt file to see what was the problem.. there i found out that the lg FlashTool recognized my device as LGD618..
That's when i realized that i must've messed up when i flashed a lollipop flashable zip for the D618(a while ago), "converting" my cellphone on that model.. so when i connected on download mode and put the LGD610 kdz the comparison of cellphone model and binary model didn't match..
Solution was to flash LGD618 kdz, boot up normally, install towelroot, install supersu, edit a line on build.prop
from persist.multisim.config=dsds to persist.multisim.config=none
rebooted and that's it.. everything works perfectly now! i won't be doing stuff to it for a while
probably will stay stock like that, because now i will be using an OnePlus One in a few days and the G2 mini will be used by my mother, i think..
Thanks again! You saved my device for being bricked forever
i glad i could helped you :good:
I tried installing kitkat having installed lollipop and did not work, also I tried installing lollipop and nothing. Well I think this update lollipop are adding some kind of lock to disallow downgrade or upgrade by KDZ. I try other methods, unlocking bootloader, and install a aboot.img, bricked my phone. I recommend that you do not attempt to unlock the bootloader and install any system image that is not official, or may end up with a dead device.

Infocus Epic 1 Root

Guide to rooting infocus Epic 1 (for windows) for build 00.
This method is only tested on build 00IN_1_360 only. If you are on the older build, first update your phone to build 00IN_1_360 then proceed. Check Build number in settings->about phone.
Proceed at your own risk, I will not be help responsible if your phone bricks, Your warranty will be void after this. Also all phone data will be lost including data on internal memory like photos, etc after these steps so take necessary backups.
Prepare your system
1. Extract and Install MTK Driver Auto Installer v5.1632 (google it)
2. Install Phone F Driver (from phone CD-emulation/driver folder upon connecting your phone)
3. Minimal ADB and Fastboot installer v.1.4.2 (from xda)
4. Download latest SuperSU flashable zip file from here
5. Download twrp-3.0.3-0-epic1-noveritynoencrypt.zip from here, extract in the folder where you have installed adb and fastboot
6. Download noencryptnoverty_boot.zip from attachments and extract to folder where you have installed adb and fastboot
Steps to root:
1. Enable Developer options in phone settings (goto phone settings -> about phone -> tap build number 7 times)
1a. Enable OEM unlock
1b. Enable USB Debugging
2. Connect phone to computer, wait for hardware to auto install
3. open cmd as administrator
3a. goto the directory where adb and fastboot is installed
4. type command:
4a.
adb reboot bootloader
(Wait for phone to come in fastboot)
4b.
fastboot OEM unlock
(press vol up key on phone)
4c.
fastboot flash boot noveritynoencrypt.img
4d.
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
4e.
fastboot reboot
You will get an phone orange state prompt, do not worry its normal. Phone may reboot once or twice. Wait for phone to normal bootup.
5. open cmd and type command
5e.
adb reboot recovery
Phone will reboot in recovery i.e. TWRP
6. Tap on Keep system read-only. Do not swipe to allow modifications. If TWRP asks for password, don't enter any press back.
7a. Tap Wipe -> Format Data. Come out to main menu, then click reboot and then recovery to restart recovery.
7b. Tap Wipe -> Advanced Wipe -> Select Dalvik /ART, Cache, Data and Internal Storage. This is important step, as these partitions are encrypted at the moment, so if you flash anything the phone rom may corrupt.
8. Come out and then Tap Reboot -> System
9. Once the phone is back, turn off the phone. Then power on with vol up key pressed to boot into TWRP
10. Tap Backup, select all partitions, select phone storage (SD card preferred) and take backup (optional step but highly recommended )
11. Now tap install, goto the location where you had copied SuperSU zip file, flash it.
Congratulations your Phone is rooted. Reboot, see SuperSU icon in app drawer.
Many thanks to @mujammil786 for providing stock files and @Bornstud for testing twrp builds
Special thanks to our devs @DespairFactor for modifying boot.img to disable Encryption and Verity and @kirito9 for creating TWRP for our device. Without their help, it wouldn’t have been possible.
MODS
(Take backup of your ROM/Data before applying any mods)
Viper4Android (Advanced Sound Enhancement)
Hugely Customizable and better than MaxxAudio or Dolby Atmos IMHO
Now working on our device Infocus Epic 1
Need to flash the 2 attached files via TWRP before installing the official app from HERE. Although latest version v2.5.0.5 also works, but i personally prefer v2.4.0.1 (busybox required)
(Note the attached files are not my work, they are picked from here and here. Say thanks to original contributors.)
Good V4A profile: HERE
Extract it to ViPER4Android Directory in internal Storage
Xposed
Needs no introduction. Every android enthusiast should know what it is. Anyway if you are new, xposed opens limitless ROM customization(s) and useful features via 100s of its modules.
Installation:
1. Flash framework xposed-v87-sdk23-arm64.zip from HERE via TWRP. Reboot after installation will take long time (~10 - 15 minutes)
2. Install app XposedInstaller_3.1.1.apk from HERE

I have tried both flavor 1 and flavor 2 over the past week. Results with flavor 1 were positive in the beginning but for some reason standby drain shot up after 3-4 days, not sure what the reason was.
On flavor 2, I have just disabled MTK perfservice by setting
ro.mtk_perfservice_support = 0 in build.prop
Yes this limits the a72 core to 1.5ghz, but i have noticed phone is heating less and need for charging the phone has reduced. I haven't noticed much drop in performance either, but that might be as I don't use intensive apps.

Not sure how to fix it, i've updated my drivers as well as i'm using latest version of spflash tool (SP_Flash_Tool_v5.1628_Win)

I'm trying to root Infocus Epic 1, its a good budget phone with decent specs. Availability is only in India, not sure other regions. Anyway I'm having hard time to root it, since not much support is available. But so far, I have tried below things:
1. Tried to root with Kingroot, doesn't work .Probably because it is very new version of Marshmallow with Oct'16 patch level and kernel dated in dec 16.
2. Tried to generate scatter file via MTK Droid tool v2.5.3, after enable USB debugging in phone. The phone get detected in the tool, however create scatter file option in block map is disabled I've read somewhere, it might be due to MTK6797 (Helios x20) is quite new and is not yet fully supported by tool yet. Not sure if its true though. But if I can generate scatter file, I can extract phone's stock recovery via SPFlash tool readback to try a hand at porting twrp/cwm with some help..
3. Downloaded stock Infocus Epic 1 firmware in hope for recovering stock recovery.img or MTK scatter file, however on unpacking the firmware package, I found it contains unknown image file of nb0 extension which is it to be flashed via SUT Tool. Not sure how to unpack this file

I like this phone and the only thing lacking is Root, Hope someone will do it
I hope so too. However, it seems its not that straight forward anymore i.e. communicating with SPFlash tool on newer MTK chipsets. I was going through guides for LeTV x620 (also with MT6797), not sure but it seems they require authentication file now for the process, which might not be available for our phone.
I already tried all the other download agents like DA_PL.bin, DA_PL_High.bin, DA_BR.bin in flash tool through which this LeTV is able to communicate, it's same error for us with all.
Also other curious thing, I was unable to run any fastboot commands on this phone. The phone gets detected in fastboot when put in fastboot mode (vol - + power) i.e. I get output on fastboot devices.
However If i try to run any commands like fastboot oem get-bootinfo or fastboot oem device-info I get error message remote command unknown

If it's not detected maybe its related to your drivers. I've installed the following drivers
1. Try installing the Phone F Driver (from phone CD-emulation upon connecting)
2. MTK Driver Auto Installer v5.1632.00 (you can get from needrom)
3. Minimal ADB and Fastboot installer v.1.4.2 (from xda)
Run cmd as administrator:
adb reboot bootloader
When phone reboots in fastboot mode
fastboot devices
You should see your phone being detected from above.

[SOLVED] [LG G5 SE - H840] No OS installed and no custom ROM what are my options ?

Hi folks,
I followed this tutorial and managed to unlock bootloader and install TWRP.
But on startup, stock rom was asking to enter a code (30 try allowed in "secure startup") which I didn't set in the first place, each reboot costing two try.
So, with no way to use my phone with this OS, I got into TWRP and try Factory reset --> not working (TWRP cannot mount partition).
I tried "Wipe DATA" (not advanced) --> not working (back to "secure startup").
After each reboot booting to secure startup, TWRP was replace automaticaly with stock recovery and I had to reflash it.
Then, I made the mistake to wipe (advanced) system, cache, dalvik and data... realising afterwards that I had no custom rom zip to flash to replace stock rom...
Now I'm stuck with TWRP (seems to work...), a unlocked bootloader with annoying "unlocked" messages and... 2 KDZ firmware files (EU-SP and EU-GB) I don't know what to do with.
I also have a flashable image of the stock recovery, but don't know what to do when it's on.
Plz, someone could help ?
Any other option than to wait for LineageOS to support my phone ?

Ah, you have kdz file? You can search lg flash tool to flash that kdz
Or you can use recovery option in "LG Bridge", there's a recovery option somewhere on the botttom right of the software.

Hi again ! Thx for your answer.
I had try to use LGUP with EU-ES KDZ file and didn't work because of the "REFURBISH" setting checked.
FYI : Uppercut is awsome beacause it allows LGUP to recognize my phone on the go, but it triggered 2 of my antivirus... false positive, I hope !
I change to select "UPGRADE" and it did work and this time tried the EU-GB KDZ.
Android is starting... and I'm relieved. I'll post an update for success or if anthing occurs.
Thx once more.
So, it's confirmed : it worked.
Back to stock ROM. I'll try to reinstall TWRP and to Root later.
Hope my adventure iwll help someone else.
I went through the same torture in my quest, but I did not tell you guys about it in my instructions in the thread you referred to. If I had done so, I would have likely confused and scared off many of the first-timers. What you need is to follow to the point my instructions, than nothing bad will happen. Nevertheless if you fall again into that same horrible state, you just do LDUP upgrade and start a new.

I'm not yet allowed to post in the dev section, because I'm new to this forum but I think this tutorial, despite being real handy and precise, lacks of three informations :
a warning and explanations on the "30 try secure start problem"
juste a little more details on the LGUP part : just add to set the type of flash to "upgrade"
warn people about waiting for a complete boot, even for fastboot and recovery : I come from Samsung and there was no messages on startup nor needed to wait that long before accessing to fastboot or recovery. I believed a few times that it hadn't worked just because it didn't boot straight to recovery.
My main concern was about that goddam code code coming out from nowhere, 30 try before what? If anyone now more, I think I would not be the only one to be glad to know...
Last request : plz give me some "thx points" so that I could join you guys in the dev part... I'm no beginner to those things ?
Qual sua versão do modelo?
840 internacional? Europeia? Latina?
Is there a dll file for h840? Thank you

Galaxy A11 SM-A115 Need TWRP

I have this device rooted with magisk BUT cant find way to properly port a qualcomm twrp from similar devices i just need help to get started with custom recovery if i can get one to boot i might be able to fiqure out the rest if any "Bugs" are found thru out the custom recovery. any help would be appericated.
below is a stock image of recovery and boot if needed
both images were from a " .Tar " file. I then extracted the file and got the recovery and boot in " .img.lz4 " format and then i converted them to " .img " only for easy access to edit ETC.
Android Version : 10
Current Firmware Version : A115MUBU1ATC2
Chipset : msm8953
Encryption State : encrypted
#System as Root
Uses an A/B operating System

Why not compile a matching TWRP by yourself?
Look inside here.
@ jwoegerbauer i can give a try but have no experiences when it comes to makin a custom recovery.

Yea, im also looking for a way to get some sort of custom recovery on the exact same device. My advice is (if you cant build your own version of twrp) to just wait for some devs to release something for it. The galaxy a11 is a very new device so we'll just have to wait it out.
Edit: So I followed a tutorial here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=40&v=MyxGZbCuxDQ&feature=emb_logo) and i created this (https://filebin.net/u3yww2cyajktm043). IT MAY OR MAY NOT WORK!!! USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!
what model number is yours? i have the one from boost its the sm-a115u and it seems the toggle for oem unlock is not in my dev settings on my phone

You can put the device into download mode and unlock the bootloader from there...
I'm currently stuck on this device trying to get it to unlock the boot loader. I've ticked OEM unlock but when I get into download mode (adb reboot download) I'm not getting any option to unlock the boot loader there. I'm also not able to get into download mode with any key commands. Any ideas here?
I've heard you power off, then hold volume up and down when you plug in a data cable. Haven't tried it yet, I'm on the a115u t-mobile variant. I can get to what it calls download mode, which looks to be fastboot and NOT the standard samsung blue screen download mode. Just boot to recovery and select reboot to bootloader. I do not have oem unlock in my dev settings, but I'll see if I can fastboot oem unlock when I get back to my laptop.
flash sm-a115u1 version firmware first. gives you oem unlock option. obviously toggle on and adb debugging. power off the phone. hold both volume buttons and insert usb cable. it will look like the normal blue download warning screen but read it carefully. it says long press volume up to unlock bootloader. it works. it will go black. release volume up and next it will ask you to confirm. choose yes. it will reboot and erase. after skipping thru set up enable dev options again and you will see oem toggle greyed out with a caption "bootloader already unlocked". thats as far as ive gotten. because now im like "what now?" i need a custom recovery file to flash to the device. any help with that out there? so now that the bootloader is unlocked can i install magisk to root and if so after that how can i network unlock? any help would be greatly appreciated. also looking for any custom roms that are available for this a11(2020). seems like a decent phone.thanks.
Situation:
You can build your TWRP it's very easy. Or get compiled version from A10 and patch your system.
As result you'll get a bootloop.
Why?
Samsung had f****d you up and give you a SECURE BOOT that's not possible to remove by bootloader unlock. If you're install wrong signed recovery loader will said to you:
1st something is going wrong and signatures are mismatched, lete wipe your phone!
Ok. You jad solved that and not wiped your phone.
2nd hmm, signatures still mismatched I'll not boot and go in ***!
Result:
Untill someone will not break this Qualcomm Secure Boot you'll not able to install custom OS or TWRP or any other good stuff.
Is there any updates that can be flashed with stock recovery

What's a point? Unpack firmware's AP_ file, extract boot.img, patch it through magisk, and flash through odin. But where in that thread header did you found the install root?
I want to remind you that recovery is bot a root part. That's why root thread and TWRP threads are separated.

Ahh I see. Sorry then.
You shall do that way. Find current fiware for your device, download it through fine software.
A result you will get 5 files with .zip extension.
You need to unpack file with AP_ prefix, i suggest you to use 7zip for that stuff. From file you need took off the boot.img.
Then boot.img you shall pack into archive.tar,
When you've done, down load the Magisk apk from github and install on your phone. Move your jew archive to phone memory/diwnload folder and start the Magisk, make patching of kenel, as result you'll receive the magisk_patched.tar, copy that file to your pc and start the Odin, place that archive in AP slot and flash it.
PROFIT!
But I want to warn you in android 10 and up there root and kernel system are different, now system is booting from super.img, and partition /,/system and etc are RO, so through the root you'll not able to change anything in system it would be wiped on next system restart.
