Need a few questions answered to getting to stock and then custom ROM - Honor 5X Questions & Answers

I'm confused on a few things,
I once had Cyanogenmod with Marshmellow, after updating to an OTA Cyanogen version I got stuck into bootloop and for some reason I couldn't get back to Cyanogenmod in TWRP recovery and the only nandroid backup was B331 which is only Lollipop Stock which i'm currently on. Now I just want to start from scratch and get back to latest Cyanogenmod with Marshmellow. Where do I start? I have Current Build KIW-L24C567B331 that is currently Lollipop and I wiped my internal SD. When I try and look for Stock OTA updates it says no updates, the update client has NEVER worked on this phone. I have currently TWRP recovery on it. Do I have to go to a certain build to get back to Marshmellow? then go to Marshmellow Stock then to Cyanogenmod?
I tried following this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-5x/how-to/guide-kiw-l24-to-stock-t3318268 but I don't understand which stock I should go to and the instructions aren't very clear (maybe i'm just dumb)
Another question: for each Custom ROM I install do I go back to a certain stock build then flash the custom ROM?
Much help appreciated,
Thanks

Are you in stock Marshmallow before you flashed CM?

if you are saying that you have twrp, with lollipop emui on, due to twrp, you will never get any update,
since you want marshmallow, i think you need to be upgraded to marshmallow firmware,
to do so, you need to download the marshmallow build, generally the b331 firmware in the link you provided...(dated:10/07/2016)
go ahead and download that firmware and follow the procedure, in the end, you will be left with the marshmallow emui build with stock recovery on (eligible for ota and warranty )...
now, since your bootloader is still unlocked(i guess), you can reboot to bootloader and fastboot twrp recovery(latest twrp is recomended)..
and now, you are pretty much good to go.... download latest cm13 nightly and install... enjoy
please do perform the steps carefully:good:
AND NO, YOU DO NOT NEED TO GO BACK TO A STOCK BUILD TO FLASH CERTAIN CUSTOM ROMS

Root on Lollipop custom ROMs?

Hi,
I've been fiddling around with Lollipop for the Z2 device today and I've got a question.
Are 5.1.1 based custom ROMs root-possible? I've first managed to make a stock pre-rooted 5.1.1 .ftf and everything was fine, both root and recovery, but my phone was overheating like crazy on it so I decided to try a custom ROM, Paranoid Android to be exact. I got the latest stable from their site and almost successfully installed it using the TWRP. Almost, because I forgot to re-flash the recovery. Then it turned out I can't root it and couldn't find a way to do so. I've since gone back to 4.4.2 using Flashtool, rooted it and installed the XZDualRecovery.
So, my question(s) is/are, what did I do wrong? Would flashing the flashable XZDualRecovery after the custom ROM and gapps sufficied? Or maybe flashing the SuperSU package? Or maybe, is it impossible to have a rooted custom ROM on 5.1.1? And if isn't, I'd be really grateful if someone supplied me with a hint or something, because I don't want to go through all the trouble only to downgrade again.
I'm using this for recovery : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2785598
And used this guide for the prerooted .ftf, though I guess it's not related at all to my questions, except the SuperSU package I'm thinking of using: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z2/general/4-4-4-creating-rooted-update-package-t2933155
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: OK, I've tried my own advice and flashed SuperSU and flashable XZDualRecovery after flashing the custom ROM and Gapps. Now the phone is rooted, but the custom recovery doesn't stick. I tried installing again using the installer version, which soft rebooted into the custom recovery, but after the manual boot the recovery was gone and the garbled screens were back.
My question has changed then, what is the way to having a custom recovery on a custom ROM on lollipop 5.1.1?
EDIT2: Nvm fixed it... , I went to NUT's website and made recovery using his kernel creator.
Sorry for wasting space then and I hope my post helps someone eventually.
You can flash superSU via recovery on any rom
Worst that can happen is it bootloops.

Cannot update to oxygen os 2.2.1

I download the system update for OnePlus x oxygen os 2.2.1. But when I reboot it for installation, there's a message "installation failed". What's wrong with the file? It seems to download everything properly. But error occurs during installation.
Is it rooted? Which recovery r u using? Twrp or stock?

What have you already modded in the original installation? If your system was stock the update wouldn't fail. Please be more specific so people can help you. If you've kingrooted or flashed twrp, the update will fail...
I don't know about the OP, but I had the same issue when I tried to OTA to OOS 2.2.1. I applied all my hacks through TWRP but always booting TWRP by ADB and never flashing TWRP to the phone. So, I have unlocked bootloader, Developer settings, stock recovery, Boeffla, CameraHAL. With this, OOS 2.2.1 OTA gave me "installation failed". Shouldn't it have worked since I was still in stock recovery?
Thinking it could be the kernel I then tried to restore the original kernel by going to a TWRP backup I made immediately before flashing Boeffla, and restoring boot.img. To my surprise, I then lost all Wi-Fi functionality.
In the end, I downloaded the full OOS 2.2.1 ROM from OnePlus and dirty-flashed it, stacking it before the newest versions of Boeffla and CameraHAL. Phone is working OK, no bugs noticed so far.
I still haven't flashed TWRP nor rooted the phone. In my configuration, what's stopping OTA from working? It would be nice to have OOS3 OTA, since I still don't trust the backups I'm making.

If you modify even a single bit in stock rom and revert back, updates are definitely going to fail.
The only solution to receive OTAs is flashing stock recovery with stock rom with locked bootloader.
Or you can manually flash OTAs using TWRP.
I made several backups of my stock rom before testing mods, but when I restored and tried to perform OTAs, it always failed while installing.

I have tried wipe cache method and doesn't works at all if you have rooted your phone and unrooted back.
And the OTA should work even with unlocked bootloader, if you have not rooted your phone before.
If you want to lock your bootloader again, just follow these steps,
1. Goto Settings -> Developer options
2. OEM unlocking -> turn it off
Error in installation of OxygenOS2.2.1
Having same issue, I doubt why it is not getting installed. Not rooted and not even touchted the kernel. Is it a bug or it requires a flash ?

Install CyanogenMod on my Honor5x L21-C432B140 Lollipop

Hello,
I have a rooted Honor5x L21-C432B140 Lollipop with TWRP recovery, and I would like to install CyanogenMod 13 on it. I understand that I need to get my phone to use Marshmellow, and to do this I need stock recovery, which as I said I have TWRP instead. The problem is I am unsure which files I need, and what to do with them, and I am scared of bricking my phone.
Can someone please guide me in the right direction of what I need to do? I've looked through most of the Honor5x stock recovery threads and all their replies, yet I am still a little confused as there are no step-by-step instructions for a noob like me to use.
Thanks!
You need to flash stock MM with adb first ....go to in still CM 13 and gapps ...cleen and reboot
I'm also having issues installing CM on my L21-C432B140. I followed this guide (except I got the firmware from here here) to update the firmware to L21-C432B340, and then I installed the cyanogenmod (newest available nightly, installed via TWRP), and I'm now stuck in a reboot loop. I've rooted my other phones without issues, but I'm completely stumped here. Any ideas?
Edit: There also appears to be no way for me to downgrade. As I understand it, I need to flash stock recovery that's compatible with my firmware, but I can't find stock recovery for B340.
Edit2: Never mind, I'm currently downgrading to B140 again with B140 recovery, though I'm not sure it really helps me get any closer to installing cyanogenmod.
Edit3: So I finally managed to get to B330 (I couldn't go from B340->B330 for some reason, I had to downgrade to B140 before I could try B330), and cyanogenmod successfully boots now!
For reference, I used this guide to update my firmware to B330 (I found the B330 firmware here, as the guide doesn't offer a link for B330 firmware for my model). Then I installed the latest nightly CM via TWRP.

Should I update 10d (rooted)

Hi, I saw about the quad rooter issue, and today I checked the ota update. (I never had an ota update because I always been rooted, s3, s5 and g5)
But now it purpose the 10d update. (450mo)
I'm 10c h850 rooted.
Should I make this update?
Will I lose root? (Rooted via twrp super su)
If I have to re install everything (apps, datas, root), maybe should I wait for 7 nougat don't you think?
Thanks.

It won't install the update anyway with twrp installed. It'll just fail and reboot. Wait until your ROM devs rebase your ROM on the new base.
Thanks, it was stock rom. But yeah I don't think it's worth if I make a fresh install with android 7.
As you said I'm affraid about the bootloop issue.

Not bootloop, just because you have custom recovery installed the stock update process will not complete even on stock Rom, you'd need to wait for a flashable version of the update or you'd have to flash stock recovery back to your device first.
I just used LGUP without any issues. Pretty painless.
Then flashed TWRP again, and flashed my ROM of choice.
The only tricky part was quickly getting into TWRP after you flash TWRP. It reboots and if you're not quick enough, TWRP will be overridden by the stock recovery. Then you just need to repeat (flash TWRP again, get into TWRP and flash ROM).

Downgrade nougat?

So I'm still on 6.0.1 and I want to update to nougat but I've heard lots and lots of complaints about it running bad on the s6 so I'm wondering if I update to nougat and don't like it can i go back to marshmallow? If it matters my phone model is an sm-g925w8.
Hi! Do you have a rooted phone with a recovery? Go to the recovery and make a backup. If you don't like Nougat you'll simply restore your backup using the recovery.
You can also downgrade by flashing a 4part firmware via Odin. I tried it myself.
What do you mean by 4 part firmware?
I am rooted and have twrp installed. Backing up everything in twrp and restoring it will downgrade back to nougat?
