[Q] XPERIA Z2 buttons problem - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I've accidentally spilled some cappuccino with a lot of sugar on my Xperia Z2 phone.
Luckily, it had all of the flap covers properly closed.
But it was so sticky that i eventually washed it with running water.
There's no problem on camera, sound or anything. But just the buttons.
Power and volume buttons no longer have "Clicking" feel, it's more of a "Squishing" feel.
In a better way to describe it: The buttons are functioning properly, but their click is odd, it's like pressing your finger inside a sponge, or a pie. anything but a regular click.
Is there any way to fix this? should i apply water specifically for that area or it may go inside?
Thanks in advance!

Try using a toothbrush and warm water.
Power off the phone then hold it on its side so the buttons are facing downwards, with gravity helping minimize the chances of excessive water ingress. It will be fiddly but push each button on its outer edge with a fingernail to depress it and use the toothbrush to try and 'rinse' around the button and the opening. Keep dipping the brush in warm water, hopefully it will dilute and remove the coffee mess.
Keep the phone on its edge and rest on a tissue for a while to dry.

Thanks.

Thank you, I've actually managed to do the trick using a wet cotton swab.
After powering off my phone, I began rubbing the swabs hard enough on both sides of the button until the cotton started to tear down.
I repeated the same process while buttons are pressed down, i tried pulling them a little out using my fingernails or a thin surgical forceps, but the buttons didn't seem to move at all.
However, I can feel a significant difference after hard rubbing them using cotton swabs.
Thank you for helping!

No problem mate. Glad you seem to be getting there. Your choice of a cotton bud was obviously better, it would keep the clean water in closer contact with the buttons. Maybe after a few more rinses they will be back to their normal feel.

Fitting screen protector from clear protector

Is flippin impossible! After peeling it off the backing it promptly got a load of finger prints on which are impossible to get it out.
It says to fit using soapy water then to push it out with a credit very nervous about doing that as i don't want to get water down the speaker hole, or down the lip on the edge of the screen.
Anybody got any suggestions?

These are a real pain, i will tell you what i did.
1) Place a damp tissue firmly around a credit card
2) Peel a bit of the backing of the screen protector, near the speaker and camera side.
3) Line the exposed screen protector up with the phone, (this is tricky, as if it does not line exactly you will end up with air pockets)
4) Using the credit card with the tissue paper, slide it firmly from the top down to the bottom, ensuring that you pull the backing out as you go along.
If all goes well, then hopefully no air pockets.
They certainly are tricky but not impossible as my mate did a superb job on his - you can barely tell it's there!
I tried doing what he described but still it isn't perfect.
He said to use a spray bottle with soapy water (not too much soap)
Remove the backing & spray the underneath of the protector & let any excessive water drip off.
Then use a credit card to 'squeegee' the water out after you position the protector in place against the screen.
It looks bad for a day or two even once the bubbles are out but it improves.
It's true though, they should have made it about 0.3 mm less wide so it fits better on the screen.
dam.. those things are always triky!!

[Q] Cleaning with water?

Quick question: Is it okay to clean the entire phone using a damp cloth? Will it ruin the oleophobic coating or mess up the capacitive touchscreen?
Thanks.
Damp cloth is fine as long as you don't let water get into the home button, speaker, microphones, headphone jack, USB port and buttons. Personally, I'd just clean the glass area and at the edges, use a dry cloth. Oh yeah, I'd use microfibre cloth only as it cleans better while requiring less rubbing.
I'd say using water is the only thing you should use, no chemicals what so ever.
I personally scrub the galaxy under running tap water every day. It does tend to get very hot when I do so so and emits purring noises.
I assume this means it enjoys the procedure and in fact it often takes a break immediately afterwards.

Just flash a custom rom for HTC
I actually use for screen a small bottle of water with a small amount of vinegar in it . Screen as in TFT and any similar screen microfibre cloth barely damped never damaged any screen over five years .

I discovered a new technique for installing screen protector (no liquid)

Clean everything spotless, then clean again.
Keep both protection films on (or just sticky side protection on).
Place on screen, and line it up.
Now scotch tape one end down.
Lift other end and peel backing off (sticky side that is against screen)
Pull about 1/3 down and fold it, on to itself.
Now stick it down. Start at center where the crease in the backing is.
Pull off scotch tape.
Pull backing off the rest of the way. Push on center and outward as you pull the crease down.
Perfect alignment !
Be careful scotch tape does not tear. Double thick to be safe. One let go on me trying to get backing started to peel.
As directions say, small bubbles that are just air and not lint will go away. Don't peel back unless it is lint.
Pull about 1/3 down and fold it, on to itself.
i dont understand that part,
btw pictures are greatly appreciated!

I have tried this and it does work. Another variation of this method is to tape the bottom (or top) and instead of pulling the protective plastic from the opposite end by way of folding, pull it from the same end as the tape and squeegee the air bubbles out as you go.
Much like this technique...

To guys with the Seidio Surface kickstand case.

I just got it in the mail and tried her on. I should have known by how tight it was too get on that it was gonna be a ***** to get off.
Low and behold, I wrestled with it for almost 20 min. It says to press your finger on the rear finger indent to I guess suppress the clip, then slide the top off.
Well, I was pressing down so hard I was afraid to damage the phone.
I ended up having to bend the case over the side and put an eyeglass screwdriver between the 2 pieces to get it off.
I thought of a way to modify the case to not lock as tight, but I was looking to get some thoughts and experience from you guys.
Thank you

I swear by the Seidio Surface Kickstand cases, I have had one for almost every phone I have owned. I use it in combination with their holster.
They are stiff, and they are tight, but I think that is part of why I like the snug fit. It does loosen a bit with use.
Here is what you do:
Apply pressure with your left hand to the top, and pressure to the bottom part at the same time. So basically you are forcing the pieces together. While doing this, press down on the middle release and then pull them apart.
Works every time for me.
It does take some gentle persuasion to get the case off. Have you considered using sandpaper to take a little plastic off the small "hook" that secures the halves together?

Thanks to you both.
Before i read this I actually did just that. I took my dremel and just slightly shaved off the tab just a bit. That seemed to work perfect. Its just tight enough to hold and loose enough to pull apart with some force.

Rear Glass panel lifting of back of Huawei P20 lite

Recently I noticed the rear top right hand blue coloured glass was lifting of the rear of the phone. I don't know if this is a problem with the adhesive or if I damaged it. Has anyone else got this problem ? And what would you recommend I do ?
Can you sort’ve see the inside of the phone?
Sounds like the glue may have just come loose. Try take a hairdryer and warm the back up to melt the glue a little and see if it sticks back down.
The back comes off quite cleanly if you melt it and pull it off. It doesn’t “clip” down. There’s only glue holding it in place.
I’ve taken the back of mine quite a few times and haven’t had to replace the adhesive so there shouldn’t be any harm IF it’s only lifting because of the glue not sticking properly.

Same problem, started today.
Will try hairdryer tomorrow.
Cheers for the heads up.
