VPN Install question (android & chrome os) - Chromebooks

Can anyone advise on a good product and installation method that would protect me system wide using both android apps/chrome apps? For example, if I installed a vpn product through the play store, would it only provide security only in that "sandboxed" android app environment? Or installed to chrome OS, could it provide better security for the whole ecosystem?
I'm using an asus chromebook flip, on stable regular build (54). Thanks

So, I Also have a flip, and I've noticed that when using a VPN like Tor It will only cover android apps, so I'd use Tor and Firefox together to have a VPN'd web browser.
VPN's from Android Only cover android apps,
VPNS from Chrome only cover Chrome.

i was thinking about this myself, since i have a VPN client as a chrome extension. I will enable it and install an android app to test and see if the VPN is working for both

I have to use PIA VPN app for Chrome, and install PIA for Android in Android from the Play store. One does not 'cover' the other. Equally, the Afwall app will only affect Android apps installed.

I use TunnelBear. The Chrome extension only affects Chrome tabs. The Android app seems to affect all apps, including Chrome. I tested by checking my IP address in Chrome and in an Android browser.

[Q] Internet filter that filters all apps that access the internet.

Is there an app (it doesn't have to be from the play store or nook shop since I am rooted) that filters all apps that can use the internet? For example, ezPDF Reader has "Direct Web Browsing" that's supposed to be used to make getting to web pdf's easier. But it can access any internet site. This would be filtered as well as actual browser apps like Chrome and Firefox. I was thinking that root would come into play here. Since I am rooted, I would be easier for an app to access stuff like this, right? Anyway, is there an app that can filter out specified content from any app that accesses the internet, preferably not using a VPN since I am going to be using it in conjunction with a web monitoring app and a VPN may hide history from it.
I know avast in the play store has a firewall (root). Never used it myself so I don't know how much control it gives you
Not exactly sure what you meant.
If you want to enable internet for specific apps only, you can use Avast (with the whole anti virus thing) or AFWall+(more options regarding firewall)
If you want to enable only specific websites, i'm also searching but haven't found anything yet
You could BLOCK specific sites by adding them to the hosts file (via adblock for example or just edit the file) and redirect them to localhost...this will prevent the connections to specific domains.
Not exactly knowing what you want, too!
Do you mean that you would like to download app or file from website restricted in your area?

Which is the best ad-blocking app for non-rooted android phone?

Hi fellas, I know this is an age-old question but there's seems to be scant information available on this. Let's share our knowledge to figure this out. This is the list I've come across during my short research:
Adblock Plus: Blocks only on Wi-Fi
Adguard: Removed from Play Store, anybody knows how it is?
Adaway: The best, but requires root.
These are the only mentionable ones I found. Do you guys know of anything better? Which is the best way to go for non-rooted device? Thanks ya'll.
i think you need to enable ad-blocking on your browser since you are not rooted cause you cannot apply system-wide blocking. some of the options are:
-AdBlock browser
-any browser that supports extensions like Firefox and then install adblock extension
-also these ones have adblock feature built inside: UCbrowser, Javelin, Dolphin, Maxthon, Naked Browser
good luck
Adguard Premium
I just installed Adguard app and it has a premium option that it claims will filter adds for applications as well.
Has anyone tried Adguard premium?

I am surprised that this is the collective knowledge on this topic. ....?

Can duckduckgo use ublock origin?

Hi all. I want to use the DuckDuckGo browser, but apparently it doesn't have a built in adblocker. At least none that I could find. I need my browser to be able to block ads, while also being a privacy focused browser that blocks all the companies from spying and whatnot.
So should I switch to Bromite instead? It comes with an ad blocker already installed, and it's supposed to be privacy focused. But it seems to be absent from Fdroid, whereas DuckDuckGo is still there. Thanks!
Bromite
Bromite is a Chromium fork with ad blocking and enhanced privacy; take back your browser
www.bromite.org
Yeah go with Bromite imo.
They have GitHub here it is https://github.com/bromite/bromite
There's also ungoogled chromium as a secondary, which you can use extensions with, check that out as well.
Jfyi DDG has a few decent browser extensions iv used before, mostly on desktop though.
Good luck
For some reason that won't install. I put the APK on my phone, but it says "Installing" then "Software not installed". The only requirement that I can see is that you need to be using later than 5.0 android.

Looking for a method using Firefox to KIOSK Mode - (Microsoft Intune as MDM)

Hello,
currently I am looking for a safe way to use the Firefox App in enterprise environment in KIOSK Mode
Firefox Should Load a predefined Webpage and not allow to acess the adressbar or other Settings
The Device is implemented and installed with the Help of Microsoft Intune, which should be used to push any policies regarding these settings.
First research efforts by myself suggest, that its not possible to use Mobile Firefox in this way.
Any suggestions, maybe I miss something? Thanks.
I´ve switched to Chrome, there you can use Kiosk Mode when You create a Andoid Shortcut using Managed Homescreen from Intune

Iiyama android panel pc + webview

Hello,
I have an Iiyama ProLite TW1523AS-B1P Android screen. -> https://iiyama.com/gb_en/products/prolite-tw1523as-b1p/
It's a 15" touch screen that runs Android 8.1.0. without GMS. I want to use it as a dashboard for my Home Assistant setup. The only thing it needs to do is run some sort of Kiosk app/browser that points to my Home Assistant URL. I tried "Fully Kiosk Browser" and some other apps but my Home Assistant URL won't load, it appears that the Android Webview component is too old (61.0.3163.98).
But Iiyama never issued updates, the screen comes with Android 8.1 and that's it. I installed Aurora store and installed Chrome & Chrome Beta & the lastest Android Webview in the hope to adjust the WebView implementation to use anything other then Android Webview but it's the only option I get in the Developer Tools, I can only select the Android Webview, not the installed Chrome or Chrome Beta.
From the Fully Kiosk FAQ:
If you’ve installed the latest Android Webview and Google Chrome but Fully Kiosk still shows an outdated Webview version in the Device Info box (in Other Settings) your Android device likely has an AOSP ROM where you can’t update the Webview. The integrated Webview has another app ID (com.android.webview) than one provided by Google Play (com.google.android.webview). So the new Webview will be installed side by side but the old integrated Webview will still be used by Android system (and it’s app ID is hardcoded in Android OS). There is a workaround for rooted devices however it’s very complicated to use.
I think that's my problem as well. I installed Magisk to try and root the device but it bricked it so I had to ask for a replacement screen, not sure if that will work every time Do I have any other options? I was really hoping that Android 8.1 was "new" enough to load my Home Assistant URL but apparently not, but I could not test it before trying the screen so now I'm a bit stuck with this screen, hoping to update the webview component or change it to Google Chrome so it loads my Home Assistant URL. Thanks!
