Southern Telecom Smartab - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am trying to root my tablet but i cannot find anything that has the model listed specifically. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Smartab
Manufacturer Southern Telecom
Model ST1009
Android version 6.0.1
Firware 1.0.0
Kernel version 3.14.0+
Build St1009_20160629
Bn 02.04.009.106.01

I'm trying to do the same thing, so far with no luck. I will add that this tablet goes by other names, including Polaroid Q1010, Q10, and M10.
I've tried all the usual Android app one-click root apps (iroot, vroot, kingroot, etc.) and they all failed. I tried a PC program called Impactor, which also failed. I've been able to push Supersu.apk, su, and busybox to /data/local/tmp but can't get any further. I tried an adb sideload of something called Poladoiq10root.zip and it complained about an invalid signature.
I've tried adb on Windwos XP, 8.1, and Ubuntu 16.10. I can see the USB device in Ubuntu but can't mount it. The suggestion here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2684210) is that you can open nautilus in su mode and then move stuff on the tablet but nautilus doesn't see the tablet even though the USB driver is loaded. In short, a brick wall at every turn.
How hard can it be to root a generic Chinese tablet?

Have you tried unlocking the bootloader in settings? The option is in developer options once unlocked. I'm curious what exactly this does and if it'll help making root possible. I really hope someone figures this out! Maybe KingRoot will eventually get around to it.
I added the st1009 to the list on KingRoot's device request Google doc.

Also have same tablet no luck here on the one click root apps please post update if root comes available

I just got the smartab ST7150 from the Walmart Black Thursday sale for $28
SmartTab ST7150 7inch tablet specs include a 7inch display with an HD resolution of 1024×600 pixels, quadcore processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of memory, Micro SD support, Android 7.1.2 Nougat operating system, front and rear cameras, WiFi, Bluetooth and a 2500mAh battery which should give you a good five hours of battery life. Although GPS support on the SmarTab 7inch ST7150 Tablet is not highlighted by Walmart’s product listing,
I am able to see it fine on both windows 7 and My Linux Mint Mate duel boot configuration. Adb works fine and I can boot the tablet into the recovery mode, but it appears that there is no fastboot or bootloader partition installed on it or it is somehow hidden in Nougat. Diskinfo does not list a bootloader partition but because of Nougat's enhanced security, maybe it is hidden without root? I'm not sure.
it does however, have the option in developer options to allow the bootloader to be unlocked. as far as I know, from my Nextbook Ares 8a root solution thread, this does not unlock the bootloader. It allow the bootloader to be unlocked with the fastboot command:
Code:
fastboot flashing unlock
One problem is that I can't get a booloader mode. from recovery, when I choose it, it boots to a black screen. It appears that there is not bootloader partition.
Maybe this was done on purpose to foil would be rooters?

have smartab st1009 too

Just checking to see if you have any new info on rooting or backup upsoftware solutions for this tablet
thankyou for your time

Managed to unlock bootloader, but no TWRP I can find.
I did manage to unlock the bootloader on my Polaroid Q1010/Southern Telecom ST1009, running 6.0.1. But I haven't been able to find a custom recovery to install as of yet. The method that worked for me to unlock the bootloader was first enabling developer options and allowing both OEM Unlocking and USB Debugging, then I opened ADB and typed "adb reboot fastboot", and that brought up a green screen with an android logo in the middle. There was no text visible on the tablet, but fastboot commands worked, most importantly "fastboot flashing unlock" which did the trick. Now I just have to figure out how to either build a custom recovery or pull the files needed for someone else to build it, as I'm not a developer, just a hobbyist. I hope this helps, and I'll update if I get farther.
Note: I just noticed that I couldn't detect this tablet at all via USB unless it was undocked from it's keyboard.

Have you tried searching for this model as "Viking" or possibly, "Viking Pro"? Good Luck guys. I had a rooted one. Your journey is an educational one.

i managed to get mine recognized by adb, tryed adb reboot fastboot, gets to the smartab powered by android screen, and hangs. tryed the oem unlock command, since that could very well be fastboot. no responce from device.

Hey did you develop the twrp for the tablet? I too am looking to root it.

Is there any way to update this tablet to latest android I can't find anything on it

Unlocked with fastboot, rooted with Magisk:
Code:
adb reboot-bootloader
once in fastboot mode (it takes a few seconds or so for the screen to show fastboot mode):
Code:
fastboot flashing unlock
I couldn't get kingoroot ro kingroot to root the device. You can use mtk-su from this thread (download to PC, extract and use arm64). Once extracted place mtk-su into your adb/platform-tools folder then push it to the tablet, and follow the rest of the commands:
Code:
adb push mtk-su /data/local/tmp
adb shell
cd /data/local/tmp
chmod 755 mtk-su
./mtk-su
That will pop a root shell and make SELinux permissive. If your tablet is on Android 7.0 (Nougat), pull the boot image to internal storage (make sure you are still in a root shell on the tablet. This may have to be repeated):
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p10 of=/sdcard/boot.img
Now download the latest Magisk zip, extract it to your PC and open the common folder and copy the magisk.apk to you adb/platform tools folder and install it on the tablet:
Code:
adb install magisk.apk
Once installed, open magisk and select the install option, then patch a file. Select your boot.img you just pulled. Let Magisk patch it. It will be saved to /sdcard/Download/magisk_patched.img. Then you need to reboot to fastboot again and flash the boot image.
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash boot magisk_patched.img
fastboot reboot
You are now unlocked and rooted.

I also have an ST7150. I'd really like to root it since 1gb ram isn't worth a damn. I tried a good handful of apps and such (kingroot, framaroot, etc...) all failed. My bootloader is able to be unlocked and I have usb debugging enabled... I guess ill give adb a try and dabble til I get bored with, as Im pretty noob when it comes to software, I went to school for electronic engineering, which is more or less hardware, so I'm hoping someone with some extensive knowledge will delve into this and find us all a solution.

@DragonFire1024 I followed these instructions but I when I get to the step to run "mtk-su" I get this error:
Code:
./mtk-su: not executable: 64-bit ELF file
and just for clarification, I am running
Code:
chmod 755 mtk-su
beforehand but it does not seem to make a difference.

Are you sure you downloaded the proper ARM version of mtk-su? you will have to use arm64 mtk-su. And I doubt that it's been patched.

I did but I think the issue is my version of this tablet is using an Intel atom x3 Sofia processer. And this is for mtk. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

That is correct. unfortunately this will only work on devices that have a mediatek CPU.

ZTE Smarttab 10 v03b cannot find device in ADB when in Bootloader

So I'm in the process of trying to Root my ZTE Smarttab 10 on firmware v03b.
Ive been following instructions on the following pages:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1629630
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1473555
The instructions are spread out across those threads and my problem starts kind of early in the process.
My goal is to use ADB to boot in to the Bootloader and then use a recovery rom to use TWRP to install a rom.
What i have done:
I have installed the ZTE Drivers
I have installed the SDK tools and updated it.
Now when the tablet is running normally I can see it in ADB and is able to run the command.
ADB Reboot Bootloader
This reboots the devices to a black screen (I assume this is the bootloader) and windows recognizes that a device is there.
The problem is that when I try to see this from ADB i cannot see the device when running ADB Devices.
This makes the next step impossible as I need to use ADB to boot a recovery rom.
So I would have posted in the development treads listed above but as I dont have 10 posts (this being my first post) I cannot post in the threads above.
I'm confident that this is a driver problem and I have uninstalled and re-installed all the drivers related to this including SDK.
But no luck yet.
Where other people say they have succeeded is when in the device manager they have ADB interface and ZTE Handset ADB interface listed.
This is the state where I'm at but I still cannot see the device in ADB.
Anyone have any insight on this kind of problem and can offer any help for a solution or direction to get to the solution.
Thank you for your help and attention!

You can't use adb in bootloader mode, you want fastboot. So when you do 'adb reboot bootloader'. It reboots to the black screen (that is the bootloader). Try typing 'fastboot devices' and see if you're device comes up. It should if you have all drivers installed correctly and fastboot on your system. Then you'll be able to do 'fastboot flash recovery recovery.img' to install the custom recovery, then a 'fastboot reboot' and lastly an 'adb reboot recovery' will get you into your custom recovery to flash a new rom. Don't forget to make a backup.

Thank you for the help ! it cleared things up for me.
Now the trouble's continue.
With the firmware im on (v03b) you cannot use the fastboot flash method but only fastboot.
And they way it is supposed to be done is that you run
fastboot boot recovery.img (recovery being a twrp recovery for my device)
When its booted to TWRP i should be able to see it in ADB to be able to run the following commands to it:
--> adb remount
--> adb shell
--> ln -s /system/xbin/su /system/bin/su
However I cannot get it to show in ADB (or fastboot) when its booted in to TWRP.
Any ideas?
I managed to solve the last bit to.
Now it was actually a driver problem, so i just updated the driver in device manager and located the ADB driver from ZTE and it worked to boot in to TWRP and then to flash the device.
Now I have CM10 installed and is smiling!
Took me 4 days but damn it its done!
Thanks for the help!
Glad you've figured it out

[Q] ZTE Flash help (N9500)

I looked all over the internet for help with this phone. I rooted it for a friend and a week later, he said he restarted the phone and everything started force closing.
I troubleshot all day, and came to figure out that my only known to me as of now, is flashing CWM to it, via ADB. I am having several issues with setting up ADB, and getting the phone to communicate with my computer. Device manager DOES show that there is an ADB device installed correctly, so what would my next move be? I got the phone into FTM mode, (fastboot?) and I know that that is what I need to do to get ADB to communicate with my phone.
halp pls
Really no one can help???

CWM Beta
From Android Forums ... Thanks to Junkie2100
this is an unfinished copy of cwm, tested to be almost completely functional
standard warnings apply, use at your own risk, you try to blame me for breaking your phone i will laugh at you
instructions:
fastboot method is possible, but i will go through the terminal/adb method
download the recovery file, and put it on the root of your sd. no folders, just directly on the sd
get your phone rooted and get a copy of terminal emulator or connect to it through adb on your computer, adb will require zte drivers and the adb program on the pc. the choice is yours
fire up adb by typing
Code (Text):
adb shell
in the command prompt, if its not working you dont have adb in the directory youre in, just copy adb.exe and the two .dll files to c:\windows\system32\ and itll work from anywhere, or learn how command prompt works
or fire up terminal emulator on the phone
on adb shell or terminal emulator type
Code (Text):
su
dd if=/sdcard/flash_cwm_test2.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
you will then need to run
Code (Text):
reboot recovery
and then hit reboot when cwm comes up, if it asks to disable recovery flashing press yes or it will put stock recovery back next time the rom boots
known bugs:
unmounting doesnt work

Rooting Insignia tablet NSP10A7100 with android 6.0.1 marshmallow

Iv'e been looking around for a root for my device and I can't seem to find a root. Is there even a root for it yet?
Guys come on. Its been almost 4 months now and still no root. I just want to delete all the bloat ware off my device so that I can use it more.
Well I guess there isn't a root for my device. If anyone needs to root this device your out of luck.
Perfectly fine Android build per se; you want to change what?
You were joking, right? Going into the about/device and tapping on the kernel version lets you pick a ROM from microSD.
One supposes that you would use adb to make verify all your build assumptions are OK, grab Android developer kit and blobs on your development box of choice, and build your new improved ROM. Boot to glamour-shot portfolio FTW.
Separately, Internet reports are that Kingroot.net works, at least from the Windows side (perhaps after a little name tweaking from that side of adb resource names; see the perfectly serviceable P10A7100 note on Reddit. On the Android side I'm still looking at a spinner and '01%' root acquisition progress. But then I should give Kaspersky and Malwarebytes the day off while this is going on, right?
Hello,
New to the adb thing. I want to say first off, that this tablet has to be the worst POS I have even had. Its has 32 gb of memory but I can only use 6 of it for apps before it slows to a complete useless doorstop. Could anyone reccomend a good rom image?
I have the same issues. Can't believe they would sell such a POS! That's Best Buy a crap store that used to be one of the best.
Insignia NSP10A7100 rooting
Any luck finding more info on root for this device? I've only tried kingroot so far from the apk but no luck. Also trying to find more info on how to root manually (without a script) or how to write my own script? I've enabled developer options, enabled bootloader unlocking. I can run adb from my ubuntu box but adb reboot bootloader just reboots? I see the option when tapping kernal to update a .zip file but what file? I haven't seen any roms or recovery's for this device. Any help is appreciated!

I was playing around with adb and fastboot tonight and did learn a few things. I had to use "sudo fastboot flashing unlock" to get the bootloader unlocked. Whatever that switch is in developer options to unlock did not seem to unlock anything. I did a getvar all and the output showed it as locked. sudo fastboot with no options gave me the list of commands to use. After reboot there was a screen that warned about the bootloader being unlocked and that it was not safe. I thought it was going to be stuck there but it did finally reboot into a fresh system. I've got files with the output of getvar all and bugreport if any of that info would help anyone with the rooting. If anyone can point me to more research I'll continue to play with this.

I just got one and trying to access fastboot. I have model p10a7100. When I pick fastboot from recovery mode, I momentarily get resting android with "no command" and get recovery mode again. Because of low ram, I would like root access to install magisk for modules. Please explain your unlock method.

Teach us your adb method. I have tried everything and it won't enter fastboot mode. If I type adb reboot fastboot, it just bypasses fastboot and boots up the tablet to android.
Update: I entered the adb command adb reboot fastboot and I get a giant green screen with a walking android robot in the center. Then I lose contact with the tablet. Never saw that before.

That is what I did also although I used "sudo adb reboot fastboot". Still not sure if the sudo is required? The giant green screen means you are in fastboot mode now. Type "fastboot" at the terminal to see a list of commands. The one I used to unlock was "sudo fastboot flashing unlock_critical". Type "sudo fastboot flashing get_unlock_ability" to find out if you are able to unlock the bootloader. This is as far as I got. Apparently I could now flash an image if I could find one that would be compatible. If you get any further or find one let me know.

Are you on Windows? I'm on Ubuntu. Not sure what would cause that. Maybe someone out there with more knowledge will chime in. Good luck.
Here is a link to a temp cwm recovery and root instructions for a nuvision 8 inch tablet. According to the post it might work on other intel based tablets. Disclaimer: You may brick your device. I still can't establish an adb connection to test this. I have adb with the tablet booted. I lose it in fastboot or recovery. I was able to unbrick my nuvision after 2 years of waiting for a method.

I was wondering if it might be a driver problem. You could try Virtual Box and run Ubuntu that way. I may try that cwm down the road. Thanks for the info.

How to get Android Bootloader Interface with a cube U30 GT C4H

Hi,
I am new in this topic and not a great geek ans please excuse mi for my aprroximative english ! but i am trying to convert an old cube tablet to a domotic tablet. So i have to flash the old rom to a newer like lineageos for example.
So the tablet is an U30GT C4H with android 4.2.2 and the original rom.
I connect the device to my Mac Os and with adb tools (from plateform tools find here) and terminal i wrote adb devices (tablet on) i see the device. OK
When i command fastboot devices, nothing, no line
When i command adb reboot-bootloader, the tablet take off and the screen keep black. With the terminal fastboot devices, no response, with adb devices command > List of devices attached but no more, no device.
With this tablet it is possible to start in recovery mode with power + audio down but with this option i have the android logo and no command. If i take power on no change.
If with adb command and tablet on, i write adb reboot recovery, the tablet restart and the screen see logo android and no command.
I know this kind of topic do not interese a lot of people but i would like use this cube for my house to command domotic (music, heaters etc..). More, i think it's a shame not to recycle this type of device for the planet !!!
Thanx
Fastboot only works if in your tablet's Android's Settings -> Developer options the option OEM unlock got enabled and tablet got restarted afterwards.
i don't see any option OEM in the menu developer
I found that the solution is use slideload protocol. I reseted the tablet and now i get recovery mode. Then i can connect the tablet to my Mac and use terminal with slideload lines. OK
But each time the process failed with rom i found on the net...
Is there an universal rom !!!
Any idea ?
You don't have to boot the device into Recovery mode:
Code:
adb devices
adb reboot sideload
adb sideload <PROPERLY-SiIGNED-FILE.ZIP>
adb reboot
BTW: adb sideload is meant to re-flash Stock ROMs only.

maybe the issue is the rom i doawnloaded ?
it is kasty-cube_u30gt_h-411-111-rooted4_4gb.zip
or
kasty-cube_u30gtc4-441-20131212-rooted4.zip
both failed.
Perhaps i have to unlock the bootloader as you said but i don't know
I'm pretty sure the 2 mentioned ROMs are a Custom ROM. Hence you can't use adb sideload method to flash them. To install a Custom ROM it's required that a Custom Recovery already got installed on device's Android.
I don't find any way to instal a recovery. I had arctools.zip but the app failed to acess to the SD disk or internal storage...

lenovo TB-x306f how to root and flash recovery help

can anyone pls help with how to root the Lenovo TB-x306f
i already unlocked the bootloader but that's as far as i was able to go with it.
i want to also like to install a recovery to flash the evolutionx rom if someone can pls help me and others that needs the same help.
GOD BLESS
I second that. There's nothing out there.
What I tried was to download the original ROM patch the boot.img with magical, replace in LMSA download folder and start a rescue. Didn't help. Got boot loop.
Ok, maybe a bit more details on what I tried already:
1. Enabled developer options. Good.
2. OEM unlocked. ADB connected. Good.
3. Boot to bootloader working. Good.
4. fastboot not listing the device after fastboot devices. Not good.
5. Googling around, found an universal root method with Magisk. Good.
6. Donwloaded, installed and ran RSA (Lenovo Rescue and Smart Assistant). Connected to device. Good.
7. Entered Rescue and using that downloaded the original ROM. Good.
C:\ProgramData\LMSA\Download\RomFiles\TB_X306F_S100134_210120_BMP
8. Copied boot.img to device, installed MagiskManager, patched image with magisk, downloaded the image to PC, replaced the original boot image with the patched one. Good.
9. Started the Rescue procedure in RSA. Rom flased. Good.
10. Bootloop. Bad.
No idea why would that not work, any help, pointers, ideas appreciated.
EDIT: There's a new ROM version now: TB_X306F_S100152_210205_BMP
For a preface, I have the same Tablet as OP. I tried to unlock the bootloader, following seemingly every guide out there but, no success so far. I've enabled debugging, activated OEM unlock and, adb detects my device but, after I send it to fastboot (adb reboot bootloader), no more commands work. I've updated the driver in Manager as one guide suggested but, still nothing.
I used command (fastboot OEM unlock) to continue but nothing. What am I doing wrong?
So just a tip for those that are looking for a guide to do a complete bootloader unlock for TB-X306F, there isn't one. I found a bunch of different ways to go about unlocking the bootloader from different Lenovo devices. First thing is that you need Minimal ABD Fastboot v1.4.3 if Platform Tools or LeTools doesn't work. Use CMD with admin rights, not PowerShell.
Everything else to unlock it is the same from all the guides out there. Make sure to use "fastboot flashing unlock" when unlocking instead of "fastboot oem unlock" or "fastboot oem unlock-go" if they dont work.
Second tip is for root when installing the Magisk patched boot image. While you're getting the boot.img, make sure to also grab the vbmeta.img from the ROM folder and place it in the Minimal ADB Fastboot folder where you will be using CMD. Do all the steps to get the patched boot image. Once you got the boot.img patched, enter fastboot then enter the command "fastboot --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img" This will disable verification needed to boot correctly. After that, enter the command "fastboot flash boot <name of .img>" like normal to flash the patched boot.img from magisk. Then fastboot reboot.
This is what I did to get my TB-X306F unlocked and rooted. YMMV.

By any chance can u pls.... Make a video on the steps u explained including on where to get that file needed. Pls thank u and GOD BLESS YOU. If u can find the time to do it .
I apologize for asking for so much help on this.
I too would very much care to see a video of the process but, I have no problem trying it first hand to myself. This tablet is just weird. It can be detected but, as soon as I boot into fastboot, it can't pick it up anymore even though, I had grabbed all of the recommended tools so far such as the fast Boot and the bundle.
A detailed guide would be good enough too
Following @doink_doink 's post (and some bootloops after...) I finally managed to root my Lenovo M10 HD 2 gen (TB-X306X) with magisk. I'll attempt to write a simple guide for who's still interested with rooting this kind of devices since there's not much literature online.
Rooting Lenovo M10 X306X (should also work for other models)
I am by no means held responsible for eventual damage you can inflict on your device, follow the underlying steps of your own accord.
Desktop Tools:
Minimal ADB and Fastboot
Lenovo Rescue Smart Assistant (LRSA from now on)
MTK (Mediatek) Preload Drivers (If your device isn't listed in fastboot)
Mobile Tools:
Magisk Manager App
Steps:
1 - From LRSA click on "Rescue" Tab
2 - Select the model of your tablet and then download
3 - From "Downloads" in the top right corner of the LRSA, click on "Open" to go into the LRSA download folder
4 - Connect your device and set it into USB Debugging and File Transfer
5 - Copy boot.img from LRSA download folder into the device's download folder
6 - Run Magisk Manager App on your device
7 - From Magisk Manager App choose "Install" on the right side of Magisk
8 - Choose the only option "Select and patch a file"
9 - Choose the boot.img you previously copied into the device's download folder
10 - Copy the new file "patched_boot.img" or similar name to the folder where Minimal ADB and Fastboot was installed
11 - Copy the file vbmeta.img from LRSA download folder to Minimal ADB and Fastboot folder
12 - From your device's settings enable developer options and enable OEM Unlock
13 - Execute a cmd session with administrator privileges
14 - Execute in the cmd: adb reboot bootloader (if everything went right the device should reboot in fastboot mode)
15 - Execute in the cmd: fastboot flashing unlock
16 - Execute in the cmd: fastboot --disable-verification flash vbmeta vbmeta.img
17 - Execute in the cmd: fastboot flash boot patched_boot.img
18 - Execute in the cmd: fastboot reboot
The device should correctly reboot and everything should be good to go now.
If something bad happens, like a bootloop or something, turn off the device and use the LRSA to rescue your device.
I don't get around to checking my email as often as I used to so I just now got around to seeing this but, I will try this after I get home from work in 10 hours plus time. If I can get this to successfully work, I will be flat out amazed. I had gotten to the point where I had just given up any and all hope that I would get it to work.

I'm currently experiencing the same issue. I have done everything, followed every step provided by Chairos and it wont surpass beyond the <Waiting for device> message. I just got this device today for a fair price, hoping I could root the device, and typical me forgot to research if it was officially compatible with TWRP.

Make sure you have the latest MTK usb drivers.
Hello Everyone,
I apologize for the delay but I didn't get notified of your replies.
I also got the waiting for device problem, but as @Yahoo Mike says, it's the MTK USB drivers that are used to communicate with the device in fastboot mode. Latest drivers should do.
Let me know if you're still experiencing the problem after installing the latest MTK drivers, since it depends on which motherboard the tablet has but all models should use mediatek.
Worked like a charm! Thanks.
Can anyone please confirm if there is a TWRP even unofficial IMG out there? And if any kind soul could share the file too I would be so grateful thanks
worked beautifully ...
just the installation of the latest MTK drivers is not very typical. however, you can follow this guide to install MTKL drivers and disable the driver signature enforcement
Download MTK USB Drivers for Windows 11, 10 - Driver Easy
To flash files to your MediaTek chipset phones, you need to have the latest MediaTek drivers installed. We'll show you how to install the MTK driver easily.

When you Restart: go to Advanced Options to find the Driver Signature Disablement option
I received yesterday my TB-X306X, with Android 10 and with software version S100184_210325_BMP. First thing to do was to unlock and root the tablet, without any issue, thanks to clear indications found on this thread.
Has anybody been able to find working TWRP for this tablet ?
