Speakerphone (loudness, clarity) - Huawei Mate 9 Real Life Review

Proper etiquette aside (hint: don't use speakerphone while doing your "business" in a public bathroom), rate this thread to express how you think the Huawei Mate 9's speakerphone performs. A higher rating indicates that you love it: it's loud and it's clear.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

Loud but disappointed at its clarity

Not so loud on a call. Not as good as iPhone 7 plus

It's terrible maxed out, like really bad, distorted out the wahzoo!
Sent from my MHA-L29 using Tapatalk

Mine is loud without any distortion.

Buddy has one too and is as distorted as mine. Just think it's not that good a speaker.

Best loudspeaker on a phone for me.

I wish it would be quieter at min volume, for "business"...

Mine is tolerable but sometimes annoying

Anyone with rooted Mate 9 flashed Dolby Atmos?

Headphone jack/Boomsound sound level

Anyone else think there could be some improvements made on how loud the speakers can get? I was expecting more Boom. The sound is amazing but I want more of it...
I have some Base headphones that sound fantastic as well but they aren't very loud unless beats is on. Wondering if there is a way around this or is that by design?

Turn of beats when using NO headphones just the front facing speakers you will get more sound, that's louder!!

Voice quality

I didn't have any of the problems with call quality that some of you but today I noticed a problem that I am hoping one of you may have a solution to. The call quality that I hear in my ear all of a sudden today became very tinty sounding and a little distorted. However when I listen to the call vis the speaker or a headphone the quality is okay. Is there another speaker that could have gone bad or a setting that would impact this?

Low ringing sound

Is anyone feeling that the ringing sound is very low compared to the music played through the speakers?

same feeling here.
This......not so good!! Had a few phones with low ringtones, very annoying. Was hoping the Z2 to be on par with the G2 as I found that ringtone volume excellent!

How is the overall call volume? Is it loud enough?
Why do manufacturers do these dumb things?
I wanted the loud speakers mainly for the loud ringing advantage, as I set my phone down in one corner of the house and often miss calls as I can't hear it from the other rooms.
Hopefully there's a fix.

Apparently call volume is low too...
Everything was looking so promising for the Z2...[emoji22]
Can't be doing with a phone with low ring/notification sound...remember on the Sony Ericsson X1 the amount of calls and SMS I missed due to low (and poor quality sound).

Seriously, I don't know why every review I've read so far talks about the power front facing stereo speakers when the volume is really so poor. What's the use?
Looks more like a software glitch to me.
One more bug I find was the volume indicator which appears when you press the volume rocker doesn't seems to be moving continously the correct volume levels. Again, not sure whether it's just me alone with this bug.

Well it's a complete deal breaker for me. Seriously thinking of cancelling my pre-order
My opinion. Both call and ringer volume are more than sufficient.

Well, it depends on you, but I feel it's a software issue as I could hear loudly when I play music. So it can't be a hardware issue. It could be a matter of bug fix update from Sony to fix it.

Again, it's sufficient.
Web tests put the M8 at 85db and the Z2 at 82db.
I don't use my phone to blare music at high volume levels.

[Q] Xperia z2 headphone sound

I am eager to know that is Xperia z2 sound volume in headphones is higher than iPhone 5 or iPhone 5s
I cant understand why people are so obsessed about max volume, never in my life had i needed to use full volume with headphones, i would have gone deaf! :0 Answering your question i doubt it, since z2 is pretty average when it comes to volume levels.
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk 2
I work in a loud factory and I cannot hear anything but music with the headset. The volume level.being average is an issue with loudspeakers not headset.
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk
The volume ain't spectacular, but with the noise cancelling headphones, it sounds better than the iPhone 5/5s
Sent from my D6503 using Tapatalk
well it is about the same as my Galaxy S2 which is not impressing.
But on my S2 I was always enhancing it by several db with different KErnels/Roms (Stweaks). Currently the Roms and Kernels for Z2 already offer enhanced audio power.
The house earphones should really help.
Also if you root and use doom lord kernel you can set volume levels higher.

Didn't compare it to the IPhone, but the sound is definitely louder and clearer than on Sony Xperia P. Hope it helps

Thanks. For the reply, right now I have xperia z the volume levels with my solo hd and studio is not as good as even compare with old ipod nano

Output speaker sucks. Any hope to fix this?

I have a Co-worker who uses her galaxy S5 at work and her audio output via external speaker blows my T-Mobile V10 away. Is there any fix for this or an I stuck feeling inferior to her phone?

Install Dolby Atmos, helps with speaker volume.

I don't own the v10 but how much louder does it get after you installed dolby atmos. I have the G4 and not sure if I should pay the $100 and use my jump trade in on the v10 or just get the v10 and keep the G4 and test it for 14days then keep or sell the G4 if I want. The speaker is my concern in store it sounded lIke it was half the output so just wondering how much more can we get from it compared to g4. Don't want to be missing calls etc cut of a weak speaker.
Dolby only works for music. You can edit the speaker output through mixer_paths.xml (I'm pretty sure) Not sure how much louder it goes. Someone that knows will have to answer that. Sorry.

I see thanks yeah that's what I'm looking for but can't find much info.
They were playing around with it in the sound modification thread, under development section. I thought it was louder, but another member didn't. I'll see if I can play around with it some today, I'm at work but I'll try.

Yeah the speaker sucks on the V10, one of the things I don't like about it.
Agreed. I wasn't a fan of the Note series speaker either.

Why are we all lumped into the same discussion? I go to check out this speaker fix and I have to flash something. Flash how? I'm on Verizon. Please separate us into different rooms by carrier. This is all very confusing.
Speaker works fine for me but I don't rely on using it for filling a room with music.
Neither do I, but the volume could be higher.

I wouldn't be either but just want to be able to hear the phone ringing while at work. I work construction and I can hear the G4 all day long with power tools running. I probably will just keep my G4 and use that while at work and use the V10 at home and going out etc. Going to check it out again this time at Best Buy and decide tomorrow.
Maybe the ringtone and notifications clips I have can be boost maybe that will work.

it is not loud ot quit problem
the speaker quality is ****
reminded me with Sony mobile speakers
For me the speaker is loud enough, i set the ringing volume to around 40% only and can still hear it in my pocket while riding a scooter with a closed helmet on. The speaker doesn't provide good sound for media consumption, but the ringtone loudness is about three times better than the htc m8. I think it's a good trade off. I enjoy great sound on headphones much more, so i don't really miss those boomsound speakers.
