Can't enter recovery due to bootloader warning.. what to do? - LG G5 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I just flashed Nougat KDZ on my H850, now trying to root the phone.
What I do:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.0.2-1-h850.img
disconnect cable
remove battery and put back
hold volume down + power
when I see LG, I quickly release power and press again and hold
then this stupid bootloader warning screen appears (that the data can't be verified) and it won't enter recovery..
What am I missing here?...
Thanks!

Never mind, got it.
I don't know where I read about the remove\insert battery thing..
"fastboot reboot" after twrp flash solved it for me.

basucally flashed a rom and it went bad and my phone wont boot, i can only get it into fastboot but plugging it in and holding volume up and i have no power button, so i cant select boot into recovery, is there any way i can through the cmd?
*edit*
I figured out how to boot to recovery, download a recovery img, and in fastboot cmd you go
Fastboot flash recovery_image_name.IMG
Then
Fastboot boot recovery_image_name.IMG

Depends on which version of the official software/firmware you had installed. You might check out this:

If you were on a KK set up then that recovery won't work.

all i want to know is, when im in fastboot is there some kind of command line or any other way i can select recovery mode besides the power button? my power button is broken, and i cant turn on my phone to reboot into recovery due to me soft bricking it.

So when you turn it off, leave it set there for a bit (guess you would have to let it die at this point...), and hold Volume Up and plug in the USB cable to the PC - you don't get into Download Mode? But as far as booting to recovery without the power button and not able to boot into the OS...I can't think of a way. There are no fastboot commands to get to recovery and without it booting to anything but fastboot, there is no way to utilize adb commands either.

Somehow I Can't get to EDL mode

I just officialy unlocked my bootloader because I Can't enter EDL mode somehow. Tried everything, EDL scripts, adb, holding the volume buttons...
The phone always restart the the system (it works fine). This is weird because I can't do factory reset either, it always boots back into my system.
Can somebody help me in this?
If you have an unlocked bootloader, why do you need to go to EDL mode instead just use fastboot.
Care to explain better?
The issue is: I flashed TWRP with fastboot. When I try to boot into it (Holding Volume up + power) i just get back into system.
This is just weird, as I can't do a Factory Reset either!
Download edl7.zip file from xda thread and go into fastboot mode and double tap on cmd file...your device will go in edl mode (red led blink)

EDL is for flashing fastboot files for locked bootloader as flashing through fastboot doesn't work. If your bootloader is unlocked you can just use fastboot. For TWRP are you getting any error while flashing it, if not you should boot into TWRP by holding volume down and power button with your phone turned off.

Hey man. Thank you for your help. But I think that I'm not being clear on what my issue is. I have some experience on flashing twrp and rooting. But never faced something like this before.
I can't even do a factory reset (from the settings menu) as the phone restarts and just goes back to the system. I flashed twrp but when I try to boot into it I get back to the system. I try to reboot into bootloader via the update menu and the phone resets and just get back to system.
It's just as if I can't acess the bootloader menu at all.
That never happened, try holding volume button before pressing power button. You can also try it through adb, make sure you have usb debugging turned on. For fastboot use adb reboot bootloader and for recovery adb reboot recovery

Yeah, tried that too. This is just way too weird to be normal. I'm sure that I did everything right.

LG G5 can't boot into recovery.

Hey everyone (Again),
So i managed to unlock the bootloader and everything went smoothly but I flashed my recovery i can't get into it now it comes up with an error message everytime i try to get into recovery it says ' Your software cannot be checked for corruption' any way to get rid of this or do i have to re- lock the bootloader just to fix it and get recovery working.
Thanks again.
Anyone?

That's not an error message, that's the message you'll see every bit if you unlock the bootloader. Do NOT relock your bootloader after installing custom recovery. Also to get into recovery (provided you installed it correctly and it wasn't erased after it booted info Android) is to turn your phone off (or pull battery) and then hold volume down & power button, one you see the LG logo let go of the power button only (still hold volume down) for about 1 second and then press the power button again and hope (never let go of volume down). It will ask you if you want to reset your phone, select yes two times and you will enter TWRP. If it actually resets your phone, TWRP isn't installed. Usually after installing TWRP you need to pull battery then use above method to boot into recovery, mount system partition and use TWRP file manner to delete come named "recovery from boot.p". You can also go ahead and install SuperSU or magisk (use magisk if you need to be able to pass safety net). Hopefully this helps you, also next time please include what model phone you have and what steps exactly you did as it's easier for others to attempt to help you.
Mines a H850 running nougat as well but thats the only thing it wont boot to recovery because when i hold down the volume down button and the power button the lg logo shows up but then after 4 seconds that google message will pop up and that gets in the way of doing the method to get onto recovery thats my problem

You have to follow exactly what I posted earlier. If you do that, it will show the factory reset screen which is you have TWRP installed, it will not into TWRP.
1) Power off phone
2) Press and hold volume down (do not let go until you see factory reset screen)
3) Press and hold power button, when you see LG logo, let go of power button for 1 second and then press and hold again.
If you do not follow step 3, you'll never be able to boot to recovery using button combo, it will just go to that message and then boot into Android.

Thanks for that! I got it working cheers
I'm actually having a similar issue too.
To clarify, I'm using a LG G5 (h830 variant) that is running resurrection remix.
I remember getting into recovery just to flash the updated modem and bootloader zips so I can fix the issue with powering off the device.
Now I noticed after doing that, I cannot get into recovery either with rebooting or with the button combo.
Thankfully I am rooted with magisk and this is probably the first time that I encountered this issue.
I don't want to further risk anything (because my phone is set up and don't want to lose any data) but would flashing twrp through the official app work just fine?

I know this is old,Just wanted to say thank it worked for me...
Been a while since I used LG and never with official bootloader unlock so I was thrown off by resetting to recovery as at first i never had the lg screen just the bootloader warning start
For those T-Mo G5 (H830) with unlocked bootloader, you will not see any LG logo. Once you see the lcd backlight comes on, immediately release the power button and press it again, all the while holding down the vol down button.
When you see the bootloader unlocked phone is unsafe msg by LG on the screen, it will already be too late and past the stage where you can boot to recovery. Simply power down and redo in that case.
(Needed to do the above as the latest Magisk 20.0 broke root and adb on H830, thus there was no way to get into recovery other than using the physical buttons. The Magisk Canary version of 20.1 works though.)

how to fix bootloop?

hey, i've got a problem.
i'm running on Oreo 20r and installed Magisk using TWRP.
after rebooting, my device stucks in a bootloop.
is there any solution for my problem?
flashed magisk 17?
yes...
okay, actually I am currently stucked with the same issue too.
But I just got back my TWRP by doing following :
1) Boot into download mode (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mycJDiFUPk)
2) Still in download mode, press and hold "vol down + power" (this time USB cable is still connected to PC and phone), it will reboot the phone, hold both button till you get in fastboot mode
3) once in fastboot mode, flash back TWRP as per unlocking guide
Now I am still in TWRP, hesitating what to do next. lol
Hope it helps a bit
it's not possible for me.
my device reacts to nothing... no keys, no recovery, no download mode
bootlooping like no tomorrow
maybe you can install KDZ-file using LGUP
or try to flash ZIP-file

I just clean flashed back Boombox 1.3 with magisk 16.0, so far booting up good.
I think you need to try again.
The download mode is a bit tricky, need to very fast hold long power button till off, once off, hold the vol up and connect the USB cable to PC. it should trigger the download mode
The bootloop that you have now, is just "LG V30 ThinQ" and the "unlocked bootloader" msg right? same as me I think

okay, let me try describe my steps in details :
1) Phone is bootlooping, USB cable is connected to Phone, NOT to PC
2) Hold down power button only till the screen becomes "black"
3) Once "black", quickly hold the "vol UP" and connect the USB cable to the PC
4) Now it should show the "download mode"
5) Without removing the USB cable, hold "power + vol DOWN"
6) Once screen becomes "black", release the "power" button, hold the "vol DOWN"
7) Until you see the "fastboot mode"
8) Now you can flash TWRP back using fastboot command from the PC
9) Boot back to TWRP
p/s : yes, the phone cannot be turned off, for long time, but it can be for a very short time. Need to use that short time to trigger all the keys
I have the same problem after flashing Magisk 17. I am in a bootloop between LG black start and root/unlocked bootloader warning screen.
I followed your steps 1-7 in a command line screen (as administrator) and it works but it seems that recovery flash is not working because the command line screen show me a very short time in the recovery flashing work (see attached image).
"fastboot reboot" returns me to the bootloop.
"Power Off" and "Restart" options in the phone returns to me to the bootloop again.
If I unplug the USB cable in the fastboot screen, the phone goes to the splash black screen and does nothing.
WTF!!! it's working.
i tried it one more time like you described it.
think i did it too slow before. booted into TWRP and the rest will be no problem (i hope so).
thank you sooo much!

how did you reflash Magisk 16 after?
@ChazzMatt HAve you looked at this? Some of are having issues after Magisk updated the Magisk app and then lost root...I guess we shouldnt have flashed 17, but when I try and reflash 16 I get the "updater process error" does that mean my only option is to format SD again, or do I have to start from scratch?

I am stuck with the same kinda issue. By mistake restarted the Phone after wiping the phone for a fresh rom install. now i can see only the LG boot logo. There is no way to power off the phone. Pressed the power button alone for couple of minute but no use. Tried pressing the Vol Down and power to restart. I get a 1 sec window when the phone is off between the restarts but your method does not work in that short time. Is there a way to power off the phone ?
basically there is no Rom on it and does not detect on the PC when plugged in
Please help if you know anything

Try going to TWRP
1. hold vol down + power till it off
2. Once it shows the first on screen, release the power button and press back the power button (vol down hold)
3. A menu for factory reset will be shown, agree to it 2 times
4. Then it will boot to TWRP ( no data will be deleted )

Build.Prop edit mistake

Long story short, I messed up and I regret it. I edited the SDK 2 API levels up to get an app to possibly work and didn't think of the consequences of everything else.
I was running 8.0.0 rooted and am unable to get into recovery as the main boot of android is messed up where all apps result in continuous errors and when trying to enable usb debugging in the settings, the settings crash.
If I could get into revovery mode, I can fix it. The issue though is holding power + vol down does not work. I am not sure how to get into the recovery when the v30 shows that conformity screen on boot when the boot loader is unlocked. I was able to get into fastboot mode but on that screen it says i need to enable OEM unlock. Sadly that is not working as settings crash when trying to enable.
Would anyone have any other ideas to get to recovery?
Let me know if any more info is needed.
EDIT: I do have LGUP installed and does see the device. I would prefer not to have to fully reset the device if possible. Can LGUP boot the device into recovery?
What you described (just holding power and volume) will not get you into recovery... the proper sequence (aka the "button dance") is more involved than that. If you're only holding down those buttons, then you're not doing the process... do a search to see what it is (I believe you need to release and then re-press the power button... but I don't recall, so certainly don't take my description as enough info.
You also said you can boot into fastboot - you may be able to "fastboot reboot recovery" to get into recovery... some phones respond to that.

LGUP can get you to Download mode but not Recovery.
You can boot to Recovery (TWRP) with hardware button dance.
8 sec Power + Vol-, and when it shuts off, release both, immediatly press both again (at the same time), and as soon as the LG V30 logo appears, release power and press/hold it again.
Should get you to the factory reset menu, confirm twice with "yes" (navigate via vol/power buttons), and TWRP should boot fine.
Might take a few tries to get the right timing for that

For that, remember the annoying bootloader unlock warning is part of the boot sequence, if you still have that.

@schwinn8 -
I ended up doing a clean flash with LGUP as I need my phone for work and thought this might as well be a good time to update from stock oreo to stock pie. I wish I had remembered the master reset method as that should have throw me into recovery, I was releasing and then holding both power and vol down when it should have just been releasing power and then holding while continuously holding vol down. Along with fastboot, a while back I had to reinstall windows and so not thinking things through, I did not have working fastboot drivers and didn't initially realize it.
Mistakes were made :/
I very much appreciate the reply.
