Why can't Custom ROM Activate/Update Network Settings? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Info: HTC One M9 Sprint Variant
When I had installed a custom ROM on my phone prior to bringing the phone to sprint to activate it, the Sprint tech inserted a SIM card and did some things on the phone, and the phone had a 4G connection icon, but couldn't place any calls. Nor could the Settings>Activate This Device be used (loading forever), and Settings>Update PRL & Update Profile also would give some network error.
However when I wiped everything back to factory defaults, the phone (despite being being wiped) was able to pull that network info from somewhere and easily connect, at which point the updates could be downloaded.
So questions:
If I wipe /data/ and /system/ to install a new ROM, will I lose this network connection info?
Where did the phone pull that info from after I wiped/factory reset it?

Data Connections Problem

So I want to provide as much info as possible to fully understand what's going on. So yesterday I unlocked my HTC Pro (Sprint carrier) and flashed a new rom (NFSFAN's WM 6.5.5) After successfully flashing the rom I hard reset my phone just as instructed. After attempting to go online, access email, and doing anything that had to do with data connections I realized I didn't have the data plan on my phone. So I called Sprint to have the data plan on my phone. But for some reason I'm still having trouble accessing anything data related, internet, email, etc. I called technical support and they told me I had to update profile by going to the start menu then settings. But I didn't see this option in settings. Keep in mind that I don't have the stock Sprint rom which is what they were guiding me with. I told them my phone is customized so everything is different. So they told me to either browse through the phone until I find this option or hard reset it and go back to the stock Sprint rom (which is my last resort). The error I keep getting is "Cannot connect, dialed: #777, check your connection settings."
Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks.
iam also having problems with data and im using boost service but i do have data connection but when i try to use any data it doesnt respond . and i cant find this option to update profile either. any help?
Boost Data fix
(1)ReApply stock shipped rom for sprint 1 in following link: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=42741
(2)update prl
(3)do hard reset when complete
That should do it!!!
You can flash to whatever rom you want after this without data worries as long as rom is data capable i assume

[Q] Rooted and flashed, now no voice/CDMA

Hey I've been working for the past 36 hours to recover from what I'm guessing to be an ERI deletion. After rooting and flashing a CM10.1 rom, I lost 4g and got stuck in roaming, and have been reflashing with this and re-rooting with this over and over. I have tried other n7105 compatible ROMs, but no matter what I do I get stuck without CDMA (I can get data and I receive texts but I cannot call out or send texts). I am currently back to stock with root access. My texts will not send and when I try to place a call it says "Mobile network not available" however I am able to receive texts. I was hoping to get lucky with the reset code used for this same problem on GS3's, but it doesn't seem to do anything for our phones. Does anyone know of a similar code for our phones?
Under the Settings> About phone> Status> these are the network related things I see:
Network: Verizon Wireless (correct)
Mobile network type: LTE:14 (?)
Service state: Out of service
Roaming: Not roaming
Mobile network state: Disconnected
My phone number is correct
ERI version: Not available
IMEI matches the one on the back of the phone
IMEISV: 00
All of this is when my phone is in global network mode. When I switch it to CDMA/LTE it loses the network and eventually prompts me over and over to switch to global until I concede.
Is it as simple as calling customer service and asking for them to put it back in service? Or did I delete something in the flashing process?
What does your phone say for ERI?
Mine does not have a listing for ERI Version under status.
ERI version 5
turn on debugging, make sure you are rooted.
run these commands in cmd prompt or a linux terminal with phone plugged in:
adb shell
su
am broadcast -a android.provider.Telephony.SECRET_CODE -d android_secret_code://HIDDENMENUENABLE
You should see a hidden menu appear on your phone, click to enable the hidden menu options, then run:
am broadcast -a android.provider.Telephony.SECRET_CODE -d android_secret_code://IOTHIDDENMENU
another menu will appear, select the last option (rtn), then select reset. if it asks for a passcode its 000000
And I'm just curious where you got a cm10.1 rom for our phones?

ATT SIM on SM-G900T and can't get LTE

I've ruled out everything I could think of, and the best this did was just give me 4G (7MB/sec downloads), and not 4G LTE (used to get 35MB/sec and up).
Things I've tried (with proper wiping/cleaning cache, data, system, dalvik cache before every single flash):
1- Unlock the SM-G900T, and add the IMEI to my account on att
2- check with att that LTE is working
3- get a new SIM card anyway because I'm paranoid!!!
4- Flash NG3 stock on the device, flash it back to NCH
5- Root the device, flash TWRP, and CM based Slim ROM on the device, and com.android. ... error
6- flash back to stock
7- APN is correct, ATT Phone APN and LTE is selected
What I noticed now is that typing *#*#4636#*#* in the dialer does nothing, and I mean nothing! It just sits there.
What am I missing here? (besides the rest of hair I had left on my head)
RESOLVED: It was a brilliant att agent that messed up my data plan while switching IMEI numbers!!! Lesson learned; think outside the box.
Glad you got it resolved.
Please edit your title so people can see easily see that too.
This is actually a common result and one of the most basic trouble shooting steps would be confirming that your SIM card is properly provisioned for LTE.. which usually requires a call to the carrier to check your account settings from the carrier side.
Enjoy your faster phone.
.
I thought you aren't suppose to give att your imei if it's a tmobile device?

NOTE 3 N900P SPRINT LOST APN,IMEI after Factory Reset! Help S.O.S

Hi XDA ,
Am new in the Forum & First of all thanks to all of you for helping the forum and people. I'm having difficulties and I cant seem to find the way to fix this(its been 2 weeks)
My problem is the following: I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 details:
software version: N900PVPUBMI3
hardware version N900P.00
Status: network: Digital roaming
mobile network type CDMA-AxRTT
Android 4.4.2
KERNEL:[email protected]#1
A friend bought me this phone and called my carrier METROPCS and made them set up the phone so I could use it. they asked him for imei and sim number. He was able to use the phone and 4GLTE(he was doing this to verify it was unlocked) later on he gave me the phone and I had to do the same procedure he did but first I did a factory data reset.
After it I wasn't able to set it up again.
I've noticed that APN SETTINGS has disappeared from the menu, cant search for networks, when I load IMEI it no longer shows the imei but it shows MEID B0000000 and besides all of this I have a message that says SIM CARD INVALID.(but the sim card works perfectly on my other phone)
I will all my life appreciate if you help me with this matter please!
PS. phone is rooted as far as I know(root check on Google play store said it was)
Sir,
Please wait until mods will move this thread to the device specific forum for more relevant answers.
Stand by
Good luck

Hi Jim/XDA
I'm still not able to connect to the network. Regarding the IMEI on the back part i know its there however what im saying is that im not able to see my imei through command when i dial *#06#
i as well had this errors today when i woke up:
: LTE:ESM-x EMM-14(ive seen this error when this issue started but it dissapeared and it came back know)
data roaming: you have lost data connectivity because you left your home network with data roaming turned off.
On mobile networks i remember i use to be able to select many(GSM,CDMA,etc) now in network mode i only see 2 options LTE/CDMA,CDMA. Currently LTE/CDMA is selected and if you just look at the network mode option without actually opening it it shows CDMA/LTE/EVDO.
Also when i opened the SCRTN it shows on black screen.
I tried to do some minor changes on Galaxy tools like the SIM UICC UNLOCK all mps, sales, default code on XAS. Factory & keystring ON. MSL/SPC show 222222.
After i did SIM UICC UNLOCK and restarted phone know took away all errors but i see the signal bars faded out and with a little red x on top of it. I've read the manual but im still wondering if there might still be things to set on a particular way that are not specified on it Can you please help me set this up properly?

Is this a Sprint variant? If so, you shouldn't have factory reset the phone. It looked like the phone was previously flashed to MetroPCS and by resetting the phone, it removed all the carrier data.
You will have to reflash the phone to get it working again.

Is there a tutorial i could follow here ?
I greatly appreciate your help,

Hey guys, for those who need to edit an APN (Access Point Names), there is a little secret.
Go Settings, and scroll down the list. You will find a search box. Type there Access Piont Names and here it is.
The steps above are neccesary, since APN setting is hidden.

No data connection on H930DS on the 3 network, UK after reflashing Stock pie

I can't get the data connection to work at all, and it won't even connect to a 4g network even when the signal is strong. Mine is a H930DS (Joan?)
I just reinstalled the stock pie using "H93031a_00_OPEN_EU_OP_1105.zip", I installed in TWRP. I followed the instructions on the first page of this thread .....
I have tried various custom roms on this phone but this stock pie is one of the very few that even recognizes the sim card. I settled on stock pie inspite of the bloatware.
The problem happens when the rom is brand new, before ANYTHING is disabled or removed.
When I choose to search for a Network Operator (using the 3 Network sim) I get a "3 RAT-4G" and a "3 RAT-3G" listed and it will never connect to the 4G if I choose that one. It will only connect to the 3G. Even when the signal is very strong (5 bars). When I opt to connect to the 3G network then I get a stronger signal if I choose "GSM/WCDMA auto" in "settings>>network>>mobile netwroks>>network mode" but still no data connection
THESE DIDN'T HELP
1 - using ADB and restarting the phone in bootloader. It was to reset the modem I think. There was a series of 3 commands to follow. i can't remember the details of this method but I think one of the commands included "fastboot erase modemst2". I tried it and I was getting the same error message that other people reported and it didn't go anywhere.
2 - The following solution didn't work either..............
"re-loading IMS settings using the LG Hidden menu: Dial *#546368#*930# using the stock dialer -> Field Test -> IMS Setting -> Test -> Load Preset Configuration -> Initialize Configuration. Then back out twice to Field Test -> IMS Setting -> Test -> Restart IMS process. Give it a few minutes."
3 - Resetting network settings didn't help either (Settings -> General -> Reset -> Network settings reset).
4 - Changing APN, or network bands (in settings ... choosing "LTE/GSM/WCDMA auto" or "GSM/WCDMA auto" or "WCDMA only")
5 - Changing "set preffered network type" in engineering mode settings (accessing using *#*#4636#*#*)
How can I use data connection on my H930DS?
Data modem works now!
SOLVED!
My phone has bootloader unlocked and TWRP revcovery. That's obvious I know but I only say it again in case anyone tries this with a locked bootloader and using a stock rom that has never been flashed. (I have to warn you that your results will be different, your rom will be reset for sure an your data will be wiped).
I tried so many things, flashing up and down from 8 to 10 but Stock Pie was always the least buggy for me so I persevered with that.
I think this solution reset the hardware, but I am no expert.
The solution is basically a "Factory Reset (R&D Only)". They warn you against it but with my configuration all it did was reboot the phone into recovery and then left it for me to decide what to flash or wipe, as per usual. What I only realized later, when I rebooted into system (without changing anything in TWrP) was that it had reset the hardware, or reactivate data connectivity. NowI have 3g data connection and 4g connection.
THE SOLUTION
*the following 4 lines are a direct quote (my phone's os DID NOT reset)
1) Backup everything, as the phone will be wiped. If yours is a network unlocked carrier model, make sure you have an unlock code (or unlock approval if T-Mobile).
2) Remove your Google account to disable Android Device Reset Protection.
3) Dial *#546368#*930# (replace 930 with your model number). This should open the service menu. From there SVC Menu - Factory Reset (R&D Only).
This takes quite a bit longer than normal Factory Reset. Your phone is now TRULY back to factory state.
I took out the sim and sd card before I committed to the reset. But like I said, it didn't wipe anything (maybe it would have wiped my sd card but I am not testing that). It just booted into recovery and when I rebooted into system I found that the data connection was working. Now finally it is a smartphone!
