Here's a screenshot of what im getting after trying to unlock my rn4 with the unlock tool. What this mean? My bootloader unlocked already?
cant boot to recovery i can only see phone and connector icon..
Edit: I realize my bootloader is already unlocked and the thing missing is stock recovery. I installed TWRP and installed xiaomi.eu latest build.
Cheers

What rom do you currently have installed? You must flash the china dev/beta rom, then make sure to enable the OEM unlock option. You then need to boot into fastboot, you should see the fastboot screen as on the phone in the vid below.
https://youtu.be/E-bWR-8EEYU?t=53
You can also log onto the i.mi.com site and log into your mi account and try to locate your device as in the video below.

Yes it will wipe everything so definitely backup, i think you can use the built in mi backup to backup apps/some data, then backup that file to a pc.
Use the SP flash tool to flash the china dev rom and stay on this rom to carry out the bootloader unlock. Once unlocked you can then flash whatever you like or install twrp and again flash what you want, you will stay unlocked.

Yep exactly what he said, btw the Mi Mover app (available from Play Store & install on both devices) works both ways so old phone - new phone & vice versa so you can use that or the MIUI backup.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-4/how-to/creating-backup-using-inbuilt-miui-t3512380
Either way you need to do it achieves the same thing.

This may be a way to re-lock your bootloader

Has anyone attempted to do this yet?
1. Root your prime (without unlocking it)
2. Flash clockwork recovery (not sure if it will do it or not)
3. backup your primes rom in clockwork
4. reboot and unlock the primes bootloader
5. go into clockwork recovery and wipe data
6. restore previous rom
7. bootloader re-locked?!?!
Im not sure if it will work, but can someone tell me if it world work or not?(I am a noob when it comes to unlocking a phone/tablet)

Lol this will not work.
You could not boot into cwm without an unlocked boot loader(hence the lock on what you can boot) and what your backing up with cwm isnt touching the bootloader stuff, so it could not be restored
With this logic, running a restore would restore to before a point before you even had CWM and thus you would have to reinstall it every time
Plus your serial has already been sent to Asus anyway, so why would you want to relock it?
*appropriate 'winning' tag btw

1. Root your prime (without unlocking it)
2. Flash clockwork recovery (not sure if it will do it or not) Your method fails the first time here. You need an unlocked bootloader in the first place to flash CWM
3. backup your primes rom in clockwork
4. reboot and unlock the primes bootloader
5. go into clockwork recovery and wipe data
6. restore previous rom Second problem is here. CWM doesn't backup the "unlock-token" which ASUS' tool writes, so restoring abackup won't do anything.

The bootloader itself might act like it's locked again, but that doesn't change the fact that your serial has probably been uploaded and logged already as having been unlocked at some point.
[Whoops, hit the thanks button. How to undo that?]

Ok, so obviously I have never had an unlockable product (currently own a Droid x -__-) So I appreciate that there isn't alot of mocking about this idea. haha. Makes sense that it wont work, but I was curious about it. haha

Thank you very much.
Will give this a try as soon as mine arrives.. my PC is getting too old and cluttered it'll be nice to do this device from my MAC. Thanks
Will this prevent me from getting the OTA updates? I could install them manually that doesn't bother me , but I had a bad experience when I rooted my nexus 4, when I tried to apply the update manually it didnt go through, it always gave a " operation aborted" message , why was that? Would it be the same if I root my nexus 5?
Will rooting erase my data? I know unlocking the bootloader does, but I'm not sure if rooting does

Thanks for this,
May I ask what version of Mac OS X are you using?
I'm on mavericks and I get "Root.Nexus.5" can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer"
Granted I only tested it without the phone plugged in to see what it says.
I notice all the tookits are specific to 1 task.
I want to root, unlock my bootloader and install twrp.
Is there a specific order that I should run the tool kits?

[Q] RE: Recovery Problem

Hi all.. Quick question.
I've just started the process of trying to root my One Max (international) and everything has gone smoothly with unlocking the bootloader etc, and i've flashed a CWM image to it as my recovery, but once i've rebooted, volume down and select recovery, hit power, it says entering recovery but then screen goes off, waits about 20-30 seconds and boots up as normal.. Is the CWM image file wrong? And if so, can i just redo the process of flashing the rom again the same way, or do i need to uninstall this image before i can? Does any new image not just overwrite?
I'm just a little frustrated at this point because it's now unlocked and tampered yet i have no root access.

The reason i picked CWM over TWRP was because i'm familiar with it and like the UI.. TWRP just seems too basic looking. But my initial question still remains. Can i simply re-run the process over the top with TWRP or do i need to remove CWM before i can write TWRP to the device?

Ok well i'll give TWRP a go. But do i need a specific .img file? Because when i go onto the TWRP site to get the version i need, it only lists Sprint and Verizon for the One Max. I'm on International so surely need a GSM or Non-US variant surely? Or can i just use the M7 GSM version?
Thanks.

Ok, now i've just redone this procedure exactly the same but with TWRP instead of CWM and it's doing exactly the same thing.. Why does it just go blank after saying "entering recovery" then boot as normal after about 20 secs? I really want root access but can't see how i'm going to get it if my phone won't boot into recovery.

Ok.. I finally figured what was wrong.. The .img was too new a version and clearly my phone didn't like it.. So i used an older version and it's done the whole process perfectly. So to anyone else having the same problem, try an older version.
Ok, hang on.. It seems i might not be rooted.. I've installed TWRP, done my Nandroid backup installed Superuser and a few root checkers and one of them said i was rooted, while the others couldn't gain access, same with Superuser and SuperSU, they both say they can't access binaries etc.. Now i assumed once the phone said tampered, unlocked and had TWRP installed that it was rooted.. Is this the case? I have attached some thumbnails of various screengrabs so someone can tell me if i am or if something has gone wrong.. When i did it on my DHD it was never this hard to root..

Tested out a rom, got big issues with my phone after

So I just tested out a marshmallow chinese beta rom for snapdragon, after I used it and tried to install google play store without success I just went back to TWRP, formatted back and installed by previous nandroid backup.
However when I booted in to my backup my SIM-card is not getting detected anymore and my wi-fi refuses to turn on....
Did I just brick it hard? Does anyone know how to repair this?

I also brick my phone, what i did was unlock the bootloader again, connect to miflash, flash the stock rom, wait like 10 minutes, and force the reboot on reboot went again to fastboot, on the folder plataform tools of adb, go to cmd, and write "fastboot set_active a" , force the reboot again (pushing the power on/off button like 20 secs) and it boot

post the screenshots of adb screen after executing command of unlock
Sapper Morton said:
It's not possible to unlock while sys.oem_unlock_allowed is set to 0, and since he is unable to boot into system and allow it; his only choice is to use Emergency Download Mode from Qualcomm, but as stated before, to use EDL, Mi account with proper authorization is needed, as such 3rd party services may be the only solution.

Actually, I was asking screenshots from the PC of adb screen after execting the command "fastboot flashing unlock"

The same applies to my previous answer, as an example, I did use onto my device and captured a terminal screenshot, see below; first I checked if OEM Unlock was possible, but even though it wasn't, I did tried to unlock, just to give to you an output example.

That's true only for EDL mode (which requires authorized Mi Account for this phone).

There is no point he has a locked bootloader we know the issue.
The answer was already commented on the last page.
It needs to be recovered in edl mode but can only be done with a verified mi account. That's the issue it happens quite regularly here and is answered almost every week now.
Very common issue which is why it is important to read documentation before trying any system mods or ROM flashes
