P9000 unreliable rubbish - Worst phone I've had ? - Elephone P9000 Questions & Answers

I bought this phone based on my Father in Law's
P5000 and thought after much research that they would only have improved the series... Specwise the P9000 should be great... The Sony 13 Megapixel camera should be awesome.. It gsm surprised me a few times in perfect conditions but anything indoors where you want to capture the moment my advice would be to use anther camera, another phone or do a quick sketch with your eyes closed....
The fact that the phone can't keep a SIM card or Sdcard in place is a major problem and means that you cannot rely I the phone if you want it as a means of communication. I have tried the tape solution, taking the SIM to the tray and the tray to the phone, without much success. BTW I have found a permanent workaround to the annoying "do you want to change the default write disk" error message that came up everyone I turned the phone on (you take the Sdcard out of the phone and put it in a drawer, then use the phone without the Sdcard - no more error message).
And now my home button is not working so I am forced to use the nav bar
Currently asking for an RMA for about the 4th time.
I cannot advise people more to avoid this phone and this company

You just broke your phone lol. Mine works fine.

ok, also what rom are you using? im thinking about at least staying with stock rom for a week to see how it goes, ill change to RR or CM12.1 if i feel necessary, im also problably going to port a few stock roms from certain devices with same chipset just to see if its easy to port like on my other phone that had the MT6753 CPU..

im using CM13 its pretty sick

I have had the phone over 6 months - was getting the sdcard issue frequently in beginning but since updated to CM13 its very rare. Fantastic cheapo phone.

A great phone IMO. The ONLY time I got the sim card message was before I moved it to the second (dedicated) sim card slot and not the dual slot (dual for either sdcard or sim). No problems at all, all on original as it came to me with OTA updates only.
From your current signature, you have messed with your ZTE Kis also.......................

How many are breaking!?

I will be purchasing one soon, but i see alot of problems! Is this just because no one posts "everything is good" and most posts are just going to be "mine broke"?
including, leds/trackball light, broken pixels, screen gap etc
also is there any thing in common between the broken ones? Ex mostly white ones are breaking
and does htc offer a warranty at all?, i found the hero for 580 usd w/ free shipping but no return policy/warranty...this is scaring me!
Should i get white with teflon coating or brown which i sort of like more?
also i plan on rooting the hero, and i want to be clear on if you can put it back to normal after rooting if i have to return to htc.
one last thing, a few posts said "mine died"... is this totally dead? will they be able to see if it was rooted in this case?
Sorry for the long post!
ps, please post color and (maybe model number???) and if its broken or not

Mine is an unlocked HTC-branded brown one. No hardware problems so far (2 weeks).

Problems with build-quality (screen gap) seems isolated to some batches of operator-branded phones.

The brown one also has a rubbery-like surface. Not sure if its teflon, but its definitely not the usual hard&glossy surface that most phones have.

It shouldn't be a problem. I'd also expect HTC to reload a "known good image" on any returned phone before they run any form of diagnostics test.
thanks very much!
No problems with mine either..going on two weeks, white unlocked from clove.co.uk.
No problem here
all good here... lovin my hero!!!
Mine is still perfectly fine - no issues with build/hardware at all.
personally
before i bought my htc hero
i read reviews
most of them having a go at this n that and forums complaining about broken this n that
personally and through experience
reviews are just dumb they pick out on anything and everything i suppose thats what reviews are for but some of the stuff ive read on hero are really lame
and broken hardware etc comes to one result
people not taking care of the phones ive had me hero for some time theres nothing on it not even a scratch tried scratching the screen and back with a key no marks
its a good robust phone
it wont let you down

well i just have to point out something. I bought my phone a week ago and till a few days ago, me too i thought that i was a happy hero owner until i read issues about the led thing and checked my phone. I do not know if i have the headphone prob as i never checked it out. What i want to say is that some issues are present and you wont notice them unless u pay attention to them.
Do u want to say that gap issues between the screen and more than 30 ppl complaining about issues with led, trackball and headphones ( probably more but some of us do not know it yet) are due to the fact that we dont take care of our phones????
I'm gonna jump right in, and just say. i've had my hero for 2 weeks and loving it.
This is my first android phone, so I took a little getting used to, think the missus is getting fed up with me checking forums and stuff. But all in all I am extremly happy with my Hero.
I use it everyday for:
E-mail
Facebook
Calls
Messages
USB Modem
Surfing
RSS
Podcasts
Performs better than my Ipod Touch ever did, and I almost never have to hook it up to the laptop... Loving IT!
so far mine works fine (1 week). the gap is a problem with some branded phones but mine (T-Mobile Germany "2G Touch") has no gap. the problems with the headphones and LED seem to be software related, since there is a workaround to manually activate the headphone again.
oh and BTW I <3 Hero. best phone i ever had.
got 2 on first release from orange (graphite), 6 weeks ago, 1 for me and 1 for me gf.
no screen gap issues, no dead pixels on arrival, but i had one appear after 2 weeks, right down bottom right of phone, extremely small and never notice it at all unless im on dead pixel detect.
gfs phone hasnt any dead pixels as of yet.
not a single other problem like leds or headphones.
2 totally happy customers here.
Totally happy with mine, no hardware problems so far.
Best phone I've ever had especially with how much I
Like to mess with stuff.
I was happy only one day. If I use longer (about 10 min) my Hero screen starts flashing. If I make reset, everything is ok for some period. I hope it's not serious problem.
I had the LED issue for a while, but just updated to the new rom, and they are back, so this could be a software, not hardware issue
Oh, and love love love the phone
I have read many posts saying that the new ROM update will fix LED and Headphone jack issues.
I just bought a phone on eBay myself, haven't had the chance to play around with it too much since I need to change my plan beforehand, but I have turned it on and look around and everything is fine. It is a White Unlocked one. I must say, the Teflon coating is like nothing I've ever felt before on a phone, it just makes it feel like a million bucks!
But besides the color, which is up to you, I would say get the phone! There is always a 1 year manufacturer warranty, even if the seller doesn't offer you one of their own.
An official HTC update will be coming out VERY soon if you don't like the idea of loading up a custom ROM (although it is highly recommended as there are added quirks such as root access).

[Q] A couple questions about the P769 variant :>

Just a couple quick questions, sorry if they've been answered or seem redundant
How is the build quality?
Does it feel solid in the hand, or cheap?
Is the back textured or smooth? (please say textured I'm so tired of smooth finger print magnets)
Anyone using this on Simple Mobile? If yes, was it just a matter of popping in the SM sim and it worked?
I had planned on upgrading from my Mytouch 4G I've got running on Simple. All the JB roms I throw at it have issues, and it's just really starting too feel like a dated phone and I'm tired of messing with it and want something rather inexpensive yet has decent features. I feel like with the $200 price tag, and it being off contract this might be the new hot phone people jump on. Could be wrong tho. Thoughts?

I broke down and bought one tonight. I went to the Tmo store first, their display model didn't offer much to be desired. It was a dummy unit, and it was all beat to hell and didn't even feel nice at all. Decided to go to Best Buy and see if they had one on display, nope. Oh well, took the plunge anyhow (not like I couldn't return it ). Glad I did. The phone really does feel nice. Back is nicely textured which I like. Phone is on the light side, which is something I'm sure I'll get used too. Build quality is decent.

I have it working on Simple Mobile. You know that Simple Mobile uses T-mobile cell towers so all Simple Mobile sim cards will work on all Tmobile phones. All you have to do is pop the sim card in and it works.
However, this phone uses a micro sim card. What I did was I had to cut my Simple Mobile sim card with a scissor so it would fit into this phone. Since this is a prepaid T-mobile, there is a T-mobile micro sim card that come in the box with the phone. So what I did was uses the T-mobile micro sim as a reference and then cut my Simple Mobile sim card. Just got to be careful and cut a small piece off at a time and measure it against the real micro sim card.
Or you can go to a cell phone kiosk at the mall and they will cut your sim into a micro sim card.

DO NOT ATTEMPT THE "SD CARD + DUAL SIM" Mod on the Note 7!

It has so far been a nightmare, I'm sick, tired and I pray and hope that this doesn't happen to anyone else so I thought to let you guys know. This has nothing to do with the wonderful device nor Samsung, The entire fault is on me. Just me.
Do not attempt the Dual Sim + SD mod on the Note 7. I had it up and running perfectly on my Galaxy S7 Edge and I sold it to move on to the Note 7. Pre-ordered it in Dubai and purchased it right on the launch day August 3rd at 12.01 AM, most likely this is the first ever unit sold to an end User across the whole world. The device was fantastic, the leaks didn't do any justice, the real thing was way more awesome. Drew a lot of attention from strangers, especially when unlocking through the IRIS scanner. It was a whole new experience.
Didn't set it up, kept it on its special place at home waiting for the spigen I ordered to come as I didn't wanna risk scratches on the shiny unit.
Yesterday morning...., I swear if I had a time machine I'd go back...
I tried to put the Hybrid Sim + MicroSD card which I was using on the S7 Edge to the Note 7. I wish I had a save point to go back and revert this. The sim fit on the tray perfectly and slipped right in with much ease than it was on the S7 Edge. Worked like a charm, both stable, images in showed up, signals showed up. Done. My mod still works. Yeay.
Not so much.
Then I decided to remove it, as the phone is still not being used, let’s leave it aside for the spigen to come.
Tried to remove the tray again from the phone, so that I can defrag the microSD before putting it again. Makes the damned gallery load fast. Took the sim pin in the box, inserted through the hole in tray.. Not going in. Tight. Crap. It's a bit tighter than S7 Edge. Pushed it a little bit more inside, uh-huh, not going in. Applied a bit of force and damn it!!!!! The pin went right through like lightning, pushing whatever in ahead of its way. The sim ejection mechanism, the rubber thing you see under the hole of the sim tray was gone. Probably fell in to the inside of the phone. Sim tray didn't move a bit, still in its place. My hands trembled, heart stopped and I just sat there looking at it for a mere decade. I just couldn't believe what just happened, the shiny brand new phone.. Already broken beyond use, my own damned fault. Tried the sim pin again, doesn't even shake the tray. It's just jammed stuck in there. with the Hybrid SIM
Walked right into the Samsung store in the Mall, and the technician's held on to the phone for a few seconds looking at it having a hard time to believe what has happened. Must've thought what a clumsy ass I am, shiny brand new Note 7, not even available for regular customers who didn’t pre-order and he's already receiving one for repair. Might've been the world's first. I used all the Note devices down the line, you will find my posts in all the Note forums in XDA, and in my life this is the first time ever I walked into a Samsung Service Centre. The guy couldn't repair it, and told me in a disappointing tone that he doesn't even know how to open it up and even the tools are not available for it. Darn it. Wish I could slap myself across the face so that I’d wake up from this nightmare. Nope it's real. He’s reasoning was legit, even he was depressed and motionless. It’s too early for even a technician to know how to open this up. He didn’t give up, gave me an address to a main service center of Samsung.
Told me to take it to the main service Centre, and walked out with utter disappointment, my heart already sunken in, legs and hands still trembling. Main Centre was closed at that time, had to stay another day to know the fate and consequences of my mistake. After a long sleepless night, Got to the Service center, was there as soon as it opened. Gave the phone in, even the coordinator lady was surprised, such a new phone, and what have you done?
I know.
Got a rap sheet for the new phone, accepting for repair. Deep mistakes highlighted... Misuse, Warranty Void... Good Gosh. This is a nightmare. It will take 3 days Sir, We will call you when it’s done. It will be repaired, not replaced.
Repairs doesn’t do good to the water resistance of the device. Cannot drop it in water again. Never had a repaired phone in my life, but by experience I've seen a lot, they squeak and creek after being assembled again. It’s a goner. Just like that. One foolish attempt, and drained 3k just in a matter of minutes. Probably the world's first epic fail on Note 7. Can't imagine how the faces of the Samsung Service team would look, when they see what's stuck inside the phone. A MicroSD, uh.... no Wait, There's a sim on the back of it.... What! the heck is this ?
TL;DR - Word of Advice, Don’t jump into risky mods. Don’t ever attempt the SD Card + SIM mod on the Note 7. I've already risked my device, don't risk another device. It's a fabulous device out of the box, use it as it is.
Cheers Guys!
Damn man, I can't imagine how crappy you must feel right now about this. Hopefully your phone comes back in a good condition and you can possibly sell it and buy a new model.
another word of advice: if you're thinking about trying to defrag your SD card, don't. it doesn't improve storage speed and will shorten your SD's life.

Future P9000 user. Worth to buy?

Hello.
I have questions for current users of P9000. I do not have this phone. I can buy new P9000 for 180 USD. What you think? It is good idea? Chinese phones are always good "on paper" but always have bugged stock roms. We have any stable rom for P9000 for daily use without pain in ass? If you had to choose, would you buy it a second time?
Please help me decide.
Regards
I bought it but I am not hapy with it.
Camera from the biginning was not well, and now stopped at all by itself. I did not drop or do something just in one day it stopped to launch.
Edge of display came of from the body. Battery drain is good if you don't use 3G.
If you want good phone search among Xiaomi , Meizu or ZTE.
For me "ZTE nubia z11 Mini" is good.
Definitely not. Gps, fast charge and camera are not good enough. Android pay does not work..buy one plus 3
Its is a good phone , interesting phone, but google pay not working, when it is working its is a great phone....

I think its all about expectations. For me after rooting and flashing Eragon ROM I am happy with what I paid for. Don't expect Samsung/Apple standards for its camera its really bad compared to those. I dont use google/android pay so that doesn't bug me.
For that price I don't think you can get anything better.
I'm not sure what Google pay is but there is no problem buying apps with the phone.
GPS is not perfect but usable, same with the camera.
Battery time is very good at least for me. Twice I have left the phone fully charge at 10 pm and att 5 am I have 100% & 99%. This is with wifi and sync on. When I hade 99% there was a Titanium Backup of all user apps 200+ in the middle of the night.
Fast charge I don't know anything about, I charge the phone during night so that would not be an issue.
I have Eragon ROM on the phone.
The physical device itself is pretty solid but the stock software, as of present, is similar to that of an early beta build.
I'd advise you don't take the leap as I believe Elephone shouldn't be encouraged for releasing an incomplete phone.
I would not buy again. External SD doesn't work at all. Had to factory reset after update to get fingerprints back. Spontaneous reboots & alarms unreliable since last OTA update. I'd spend more money and get OnePlus 3 or used OnePlus 2.

External SD works just fine. Fingerprints dissapearing after an update of software is a known issue but a very minor inconvenience - all you have to do is add them back again. Which software version are you currently on?
20160810
I knew about the fingerprint issue but misread something from the release notes that caused me to think it had been fixed. It's not that they go missing, it's that they remain used but unrecoverable, so I went for a few weeks with only one fingerprint. No biggie.
My SD Card has never, ever worked. It's as though it's not even there. SIM works fine in that slot though.
In general I find the phone is not quite stable enough that I would recommend it to anyone else to buy, but it's not quite unstable enough that I sent it back, although I might have done if I'd had a decent spare.
Sent from my P9000 using Tapatalk
On paper it sounds good but too many bugs for me to use as a my daily driver so sent back to Amazon. GPS not great, fingerprint unlock not reliable. Unable to send or receive text without rebooting occasionally which was the biggie for me.
You get what you pay for, all phones have problems at one time or another no phone is perfect, GPS after lock works fine, finger print a bit slow but never had a problem as such, Camera isn't the problem it's the software use a different app and it's not that bad and I still have an Xperia Z1 so i can compare, Android Pay i live in the UK all bank card are contactless why fiddle about with a phone when it easier to just pull out your bank card the number of time i've stood behind some one trying to pay for something with their IPhone is mind numbing, you can make calls you can send texts you can receive calls and texts, if you have a higher budget then try something else if not this phone is as good or as bad as any.

I suspected exactly that, Carl.
I am considering this phone, too. Most of my friends have Apple and Samsung high ends (that what's absolutely dominates the market here in Singapore), some of them are already on the 3. device while I still have my 2 yo crappy beaten-up Zenfone 5 ... it's as well not without flaws but surprisingly solid. I'm 100% off the high end stuff. The time we payed high end money and really got something feelably and visably better is long over. Yep, more money buys me better, but now it's not always, and not 3 - 4 times better.

This phone is utter Garbage

1. Screen Bleed. Not terrible but annoying.
2. Unable to transfer files to phone from my PC. I tried 3 different PC's. I have developer mode and tried both usb debug mode on and off.
But files either refuse to copy - or copy so slow that it would take days to copy large files, literally.
I installed the Poco drivers and Mi assistant. It tells me I need to update my phone before connecting to PC.
But my phone IS updated.
3. The mic hardly audible on video calls.
The mic only works if I have my mouth VERY close to it, other wise people cannot hear me at all during video calls - I mean literally AT ALL. The person was sitting quietly waiting for me to talk but I had been talking for over a minute before I realised they cant hear a thing. Did a Skype test call.. same problem.
4. It took me weeks to even be able to order this phone due to the bad habit of advertising the phone but not having enough stock available.
5. No refund available, just the painful process of sending it back and having to gamble on getting a better quality phone.
I can see my self stuck in an endless cycle of returning these phones. becasue none will be up to standard.
It has a fast processor, pretty good camera, and good battery... but the rest seems utter garbage.
I'd rather a slower phone that actually worked properly.
1. my Poco is made in China and there is not screen bleed, screen is perfect.
2. no problem for me to transfer file from Poco to Win10 in vm.
3. not tested with Skype so idk, but with normal call with speakerphone enabled i did not have problems atm.
4. :::
5. :::
What you listed is nothing compared to the touch issues this model has... It's barely usable because of them. Other than that, it's very solid. I don't even mind the light bleed, I just want the touch response to be snappy and accurate (which it's not...).

Nothing?
I got this phone mainly for Skype video calls on the move. But with the awful mic its totally useless.
Plus I got the 128GB version for more storage space, but cant even transfer files to the device.
I didn't notice many touch issues though.. maybe a bit.
Thats what we get if we pay cheap... crap quality control.
My model was also made in India - which probably means it's even worse.
About the USB thing it wouldnt work for me on the USB 3.0 ports of my computer, but I know its not Poco's fault, not even my new sound card gets recognised there. If your computer is old one (mine is P9x79 Pro with 3930k) its most probably just the USB fault. It was when USB 3.0 first released and I remember it not even working properly until drivers released a year after. Not to mention that I still have problems with it sometimes.

I mean that your mic issue is probably easy to fix in future updates (I just tested a video call myself and the other person heard me very clearly) but the screen is most likely a hardware issue which is the worst. I don't have any problems with the file transfer either.

My model was also made in India - which probably means it's even worse.

mate stop spreading the hate... maybe you got a defective piece...u should request for a return... I got mine in the first sale(Flipkart) .. I don't know about the mic issue with skype ...for me, everything works fine including the screen(no bleeding)...install some benchmark app for storage and check the speed ...check your SD card (if u have one).

Then why do my other phones have no problem transferring data from my pc?
It is POCO fault for sure

I spread what the hell I want
And ACTUALLY, I am spreading my EXPERIENCE.
It's better than keeping quiet and having masses of people buy this badly built phone.

What do you think I'm doing you fool?
I gave a LIST of points. I advice you to read them.
Then you accuse me of spreading hate when I'm just giving my experience,
then you call me a kid. But that's OK as long as it come from your mouth I suppose.
Yes, this phone was supposed to be a 'flagship killer killer'
Now when people point out its faults you say 'what do you expect from a cheap phone'.
Well if its crap, say so and I wont buy it.
People have been raving about it mainly due to the ultra fast processor, caught in the hype and ignoring the bad build quality and quality control.
Plus Mi India wont even give refunds.
AND they wont even check my replacement before sending it. So I may get another duff model and have to go through the entire process again.
So yes,, THIS PHONE IS GARBAGE
LOL the touch screen on my unit sold in Italy is perfect. I am in many italian android and tech forums and here no one has this (fake) touch screen problem. All made in China obviously. There are too many indian kids here...

Maybe that's the issue.
Indian products are notoriously terrible quality.
Plus Mi India won't even offer refund.
After I read this thread, I just connect my phone to my PC to see if my Poco has any troubles transferring. Recognized by the computer, I then selected USB transfer rather than charging on the phone, and transferred over a 100 MB file in about 2 seconds. Fastest I've seen so far on a phone. So, for what it's worth, no issues here.
I find the screen bleed issue interesting. Reminds me of my 2012 iMac, where there was a huge blow-up online with screenbleed at the bottom that almost nobody noticed until they read the online forums..... Never noticed it on my phone until i read about it here. Ha!
Its that only the indian version only has these problems the global version has no issues

Maybe I should change this thread title to: 'INDIAN PRODUCTION AND QUALITY CONTROL STANDARDS ARE GARBAGE.'
From what I'm seeing here it seems most of the phones made elsewhere are pretty much fine.
Interesting that people think it get worse ,I don't see backlighting get brighter as days go by, Backlight will get dimmer ?
Hmmm i read all these issues people have and i have yet to encounter any of them. I use my F1 daily since 6. September. Only problem i have is finding a good flip case for it.

You didn't expect cheap stuff to be free of issues did you? It's the first generation too. Also, to say the phone is "utter garbage" is not fair when 90% of other functions work fine.

I can speak for myself, I don't know why it does it to you. I can connect my s9 on that port and it works just fine also. However I had problem with MANY devices in the past (even last week with my new sound card) getting recognised or working properly. Some devices work, some don't. Do I blame the devices? Absolutely not. This is the price you pay for adopting new technologies like USB 3.0 (when it was first released) Its not pocos fault for being incompatible with 3.0, because it works fine on my 3.1 laptop, or USB 2.0 on my desktop. Same with my sound card. Again that's my own case, I don't know why it's not working for you. My suggestion is to try different drivers and/or upgrading the firmware of the usb.
