Battery Life on Nougat - Sony Xperia X Questions & Answers

How is your battery behaving after the Nougat Update?
I am having trouble with it. I am losing over 30% of battery overnight. Even in Stamina mode.

That is unusual. Did you try safe mode? It may be caused by an app that is not fully compatible. A factory reset would be plan B, I guess.

I think that the problem is "phone idle". It's consume battery more than screen. In safe mode, it is not present. So I think, an app is not fully compatible as you mention.
Do you have any idea how to recognize it?? Not appear at battery stats.

I have good experiences with gsam battery monitor. With an adb command you can grant it access to the app stats.

Well that depends heavily on your usage. For me it is comparable to the Z3c, which has a good reputation. I have about 6 hrs screen on time, but I am not a heavy user (no games, youtube or facebook), and I run Concept.

[Q] Hello Everyone.

Hello everyone,
From yesterday i started facing a strange issue due to which i am experiencing serious battery draining issues.
My battery started draining 1-2% every 5 min in idle mode after i played a game named crazy fist . next day i factory resetted my phone. In idle now it is not consuming any power but when i do some work on my phone , it consumes alot of battery and it.drins like 1% every 2-2.5 min.
Charging time is normal. But discharge is pretty fast.
So i checked thr battery usage inside settings.and noticed that my display is consuming about 41% of the battery and android os arnd 13%. I am not sure qbout os usage but thr diaplay is consuming too much power. I think initially it used to consume 13-20(max)%.
Or is the usage correct? I am using sgs2 stock midel and have no intentions to root it.
Kindly assist and reply asap. Thanks in.advance,
Siddhanth
the display on the galaxy s2 does drain alot of battery if your using it for quite a while..thats what they call screen on time..my battery was draining fast and i panicked... when you do use your phone how long do you use it? say do you use to browse like for a good hour non stop?
if you was rooted i could of gave you some options but here is a link to help you read and give you some tips on battery life...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1234264
charge your phone fully and drain it without switching it off..charge it again without taking it off charger i say leave it for a good few hours...do the same thing for a few charging cycles and see what the battery like is after that..but check the link
But this strange thing happened to me aftrr 1month.
I wss never rooted.
I mean this is the first time my display is consuming 59-61% of the overall battery. is this normal and does it hsppen to u too?

i thought the same as you buddy. never realised it in the start when i had my s2 but then checking the battery usage and i panicked...its normal for the display to drain the battery alot..
change your brightness to auto and there is an option in settings and display where you can tick to have the display autoadjusted. thats for brightness..
or do what i do and have your brightness on the lowest settings and see how it goes from there...fully charge your battery let it say for 6 hours then let it drain till it dies down without any breaks and then charge it again to the max..do the same thing for a few times and check whats the battery after a few days...

when calibrated your phone you leave it on of course and charge it without any interuptions...when you let it drain with out any breaks like switching it on and off, once it dies down then plug to charge it.....it will charge and it will give you the battery icon...once its fully charged you can see by the battery when its fully green switch your phone and your good to go...

but download the app first
Thanks, i tried it todsy but it says root needed.
I have a stock rom. and i dont want to change the rom before my warranty period gets over.
Install BetterBatteryStats from the Android Marketplace. Run it and see if there is/are any app(s) gone rogue abusing CPU power other than the display.

PERFORM complete Reset phone and erase everything. If the problem still persist then its your battery (Change it) however I am hopeful it will get solved with Reset

that phone is only 1 week+, and i tried reset still same thing happen again. the battery i checked already is still flat.
Try cycling your battery (fully drain then fully charge several times) and if you're rooted try calibrating it using an app from the Play store.

I had the same issue and its not the phone it is the rom version 4.2.2
I believe even s4 users are reporting the same.
My advice till google fix this is to disable sync when it is not needed as it looks like google service is the reason for this issue
Alternatively, try to install wakelock detector from google play. Look into cpu wakelocks and see what is occuping much time.

Hey, did you remember to calibrate your battery after flashing the ROM?
Also it's pretty normal that the screen consumes a lot of battery. But if it isn't on for long periods of time and still drains there's something wrong.
You can check what is waking your device using this app
Another suggestion would be that don't use auto brightness, it drains the battery quite a bit.

Well you probably did it correctly, not that complicated. Use the calibration app
I got it from this XDA thread and it always seems to work for me.
Just make sure to charge to 100%, unplug the charger and then press calibrate.
Anyway leave the wakelockdetector running for a day or so and then see what is waking your device the most.
Also check what governors and io schedulers you are using. That can make quite a difference.

It's hard to say which is best. You'll have to test them to suit your own needs.
Try using hotplug or smartassV2. They have a nice balance between battery and performance.
Currently I'm using hotplug, I find it has better battery and the performance is sufficient.
If you want more info on governors look in this thread.

is this a good battery life??

i want to know to if my xperia z2 battery is working as it should. I mean "is it a good battery life?
Not good, not bad. In my opinion "good battery life" means at least 5 hours 30 mins SOT

Battery life is an extremely wide topic. For example, I use greenify with exposed support, I uninstall unnecessary system apps, I control devices wakelocks regularly etc etc.. As I said so many things to do.

Your battery life is actually GOOD.. You don't need to worry about it unless the SoT decreases over time..

I agree, i heard that greenify can be effectively used once your device is rooted. So i see that u have rooted your device and hence you can able to uninstall system apps. I am in warranty period and i don't want to void my warranty . So any other solution would help ??

battery issue

hello.I replaced my battery and I have the same problem (somehow) as before!to clarify..I dont know why I cant get the superb of 11 SOT when I bought it and running kitkat..now I am on lollipop and get max of 7:30 SOT max.
So my issue is that when battery goes down from 16% iy drains battery % muuuch faster!it happens again now even after replacing the battery, but not so quick compared to before..what can be the cause?thanks.
STAMINA Mode?
Do you enable stamina mode when the battery gets low (e.g. 15%)? I find that the battery drains faster when stamina mode is on (sounds funny-I know, since it should improve battery). Even for my Xperia XA, I seem to lose more battery with stamina and even more with ultra stamina. :silly: This is when the device is idle.
yes dude I have always stamina on.I miss the good days with kitkat that I had 11 hours SOT.Maybe I'll revent back to kitkat to test.but I don't think I will get these numbers again..don't know maybe is hardware issue cause tablet is 2+ years old...

Possibly a hardware issue but I doubt it. I've used an Xperia device running KK and can say that that was the last version (I think) that had the good old stamina mode which totally suppressed mobile data/wifi resulting in very good battery life, ever since lollipop they decided to use the built in android battery saver and based stamina mode around that which is next to useless, it doesn't actually suppress the network connection, only reduce brightness, sync and performance.
I find that only keeping the wifi on during use/charging to help a lot, settings->wifi-> it is somewhere there where you can change this.
You could always revert to KK if you find a ftf.
I've only had the tab for a week or two and am happy with the battery life vs performance, much better than the nexus 7 2013.
me too.I love it and have no complain about it.but this battery issue drives me crazy.I found my old flashable zip, maybe I try again kk thanks!

My Xperia z3 compact tablet battery drains fast
Hi Everyone,
I got the xperia z3 compact tablet earlier this year and it was good for a few months before the battery started giving me issues. It practically drains out while still about 60% charged and when you plug it for charging it begins from 0% before a twinkle of an eye it's at 100%. I noticed lately the tablet goes off even when the battery is saying 80% charged. I've reached out to sony and the suggestion was that i format the tablet which i did but to no avail. Pls is there anything i can do?

Unfortunately it sounds like a hardware problem since a reset didn't fix it. You can try going into the service menu and see battery health there, maybe even do a test on it. To go into the service menu open the phone app and dial *#*#service#*#*
You spell service by using the corresponding number buttons.
Edit: realised it might not have a phone app, in that case download an app from the play store that helps you open the service menu. I don't own this tablet anymore so can't fully remember haha.

You sure? It should be under "Service tests" -> "Battery Health test" (you may have to scroll towards the bottom). For example on my Xperia Z5 it says "Good, no need to replace it." Other than that I don't know what else to say, because if a reset doesn't work it has to be a hardware issue. It may be useful to try an app which reads battery diagnostics.
