So my question is, can the bootloader be unlocked? I really wanna buy this phone right now but the locked bootloader really makes me change my mind.

Apply for unlock privileges when you order the phone because it can take upto 2 weeks to get. Use a valid reason and don't copy reason from other sites.

Sorry if this has been covered.
I had a rooted, unlocked Note 2 for a long time that I loved. I purchased the Note 3 not realizing I can't unlock the bootloader. I rooted it but still couldn't get any kind of wifi tether to work ... even paid app ones.
So tonight, I traded my Note 3 to a guy for some cash and his Note 2 .... only to realize it's 4.3 OTA updated.
Can I root and unlock the bootloader or am I screwed?

At this point you can only root with kingo. You cannot unlock the bootloader.
Hi guys, first off, I'd like to apologise if this is not the right place for this thread- feel free to move it to the right place if so!
Secondly, I'd like to ask if there's a method for unlocking a bootloader that is locked... do I need to unlock the tablet from the EE carrier first? Or is there another method of doing so?
I tried to root the device for hours on end and nothing managed to work at all!
Any help at all would be appreciated!

if you have an operator market device, 99% you will not be able to unlock your bootloader.
You can look in Service Menu if your device bootloader is unlockable.
But even if it is not, you can root your device easily, just look for instructions on XDA.
The only thing you won't be able to do with unlockable bootloader is install custom (e.g. CM, FXP) firmwares on your device.
i have a note edge and on the forums it says that verizon note edges can be rooted but you have to have the developer edition but how do i know if i have that or not please help. i want to start understanding more about this kind of stuff
Basicly the developer edition means it should be unlocked from factory (bootloader or rooted , idk for sure)
If you can't flash anything to your note then you should look up how to unlock the bootloader for non-developer editions... which I don't know if it is available, search the forums

first of all, i used the search but couldnt find what im looking for.
I need a unoffical way to unlock the MTK version of the Redmi Note 3 32GB 3GB Ram
Im currently running 8.6.8.11 chinese dev rom. Root is not granted. The security app says due to safety reasons the fastboot is locked.
The phone is for colleague who doesnt speak a word english. So he asked me to install a custom rom.
After a lot of hardbrick situations (he made a update, locked the bootloader again and tried to fix it by himself ) i got the phone back alive. I cant find the old tutorial anymore with the unoffical unlock procedure. Official unlock always tells me i dont fullfill the requirements.
Does anyone of you experts here can help me to unlock the "old fashioned" MTK phone
It totally drives me crazy the last 3 days (nights) ^^

Hi All,
I don't normally post to ask questions but on this occasion I've spent a few hours already trying to figure out how to unlock the bootloader without requesting it officially (I don't want to have to wait).
I can't find a proper guide anywhere, I've been searching for hours. I see people talking about how awkward it is to get it done but they've actually done it though.
Can someone help an old timer get this Redmi Note 3's bootloader (Mediatek) unlocked?
