AT&T HTC M9 Update - AT&T HTC One (M9)

Hello, people
I just got an HTC M9 and it is from AT&T. I'm located in Dominican Republic and I've been told that it is unlocked. The thing is that I'm not able to update the android. It has 5.0.2 and I know that the HTC M9 allows to upgrade up to Android Nougat. I don't know if the phone may be flashed and get a new android OS installed on it. I'm really newbie in this subject and I don't know what to do. When I go to Settings > About > software, nothing shows up to update. The only update option is "AT&T software update", but it always says that there are not updates. Now it says: "network is not ready". I've thought about selling the phone cheaper and get a new HTC M9 factory unlocked or Verizon, but that would take some money. I didn't knew any of this when I got the phone... What would you recommend? Is it possible to flash the phone or should I get a new one?

You can download the 3.38.502.XX ruu from htc... Nougat I do not believe will be released from ATT... You cannot update the ATT software unless you are on ATT network, I would suggest converting the device to the developer edition and then you will get at least Nougat and security updates.

Thanks for your answer. However, I already bought a new HTC M9 T-Mobile version, which got updated at once. I tried to flash it and install several android versions, but none of them worked.

Att has released 7.0 Feb patches. I haven't got the update yet but this is great news for our phone finally

I stand corrected then... This is good news for you guys...

[Q] US Cellular software update on Verizon HTC Merge

I was told by Verizon that in general, I can use another carrier's software update to update my phone as long as the software date is not too long after the phone "roll-out" date. Is this generally true ? I want to confirm before I use a USCellular Android 2.3.4 update (Software Number 3.20.573.2) on my Verizon HTC Merge (Android 2.2). (I checked - the software date and phone date are around 2011) [Verizon never supported this phone but it is branded as such] The update requires HTC Sync and to be done via a PC.
(I'm a newbie, so trying to find the simplest solution to update the software without rooting and etc...). Thanks

Whoever told you that from Verizon was an idiot. That is absolutely not how it works, especially with carrier locked devices like that. If there are no official updates available from VZW, then the only way would be via a custom rom. If you try to run that RUU, it will fail before it even starts because it will recognize that the CID (Carrier ID) is different.

Is it safe to use Android 2.2 on the HTC Merge or should it be updated ? If update, some say Google Play Services may be a 'back-end' solution.
Or getting a custom rom is the best way ? If so, where is safest place to get it and what is best way to do this for a newbie ?
Thanks for your help !

Updating HTC One (M8) European version

Hello guys,
I am new here and this is my first post. I am also new to Android stuff and I feel like I really need your help. I have a HTC One (M8) and I found out that a new update for Android Marshmallow and Sense 7 is out and I can't wait for my carrier to release the update here in my country Macedonia, Europe. My device isn't carrier locked, and I haven't done anything with my phone, like rooting. Can you tell me or give me a link from a thread on how to install the new software and will it void my warranty, will I get updates from the phone after, or I would have to do it manually from my PC?
Thank you for your time,
Molivsoguma

I have heard on an article on tmonews that the T-Mobile LG Leon will receive the Marshmallow update. Did anyone get it yet? http://www.tmonews.com/2016/12/t-mobile-lg-g4-security-update-lg-leon-marshmallow/

Yes it was supposedly released on December 5, 2016 for OTA push but so far I have been unable to get it I've tried using the LG PC Suit but it just say's I already have the latest version same thing phone route according to T-Mobile the version is 6.0.1 and the update version number is just H345K which seems short and when searching the LG servers I'm not able to even find a rom for the 345 that ends with K the latest version is J so I really don't know what is going on but hoping I will be able to get it soon have you had any luck?
Same here. Phone's update software and LG PC Suite both identify H34510J as current

So no Nougat on the RS988?

I've been using the RS988 G5 on Verizon since last month (that BHPhoto had on sale for $399, due to my old Note 4 DE having issues). For the price, it is a good phone, but I'm not liking the fact that it appears LG will not be upgrading it to Nougat, leaving it on 6.0.1 with months old security patch.
At this point, I'm not sure if I should just keep it for now and wait and see how the new phones are this year (G6, S8, Note 8, V30), or return it while I still can to BHPhoto and pick up something else. I could go with something used on Swappa (such as the Verizon branded G5 or V20 that both have 7.0) for around the same $400 or slightly more.
I'm so frustrated as you are... i live in argentina and a friend of mine brought me from this variant instead of a H850/830 as i requested but is such a good phone, i can't really complain
It's like a forgotten variant... i wonder if LG itselft knows it exists
Recieved the update

Is this notification actually for Nougat, or perhaps for just a more current security update? The size seems too small for the Nougat update is why I ask.
Update: I just downloaded and installed the 554.17MB update and it was the latest security update (2017-01-01) in s/w version RS98811d. Maybe Nougat will come in the next weeks/months.
I'm downloading the "d" firmware, but really slow even with my 175Mbps Comcast connection, so not sure where the LG Software Update Server is.
Too bad it still isn't Android Nougat, but at least it is the Jan 2017 security update. So there is still hope I guess.
Update:
Finished the download and install. Visually, can see no difference from the "c" version.
Sorry

Sorry i was excited...bur after installing i came to know that it was a security update
It looks like there is a RS988 Nougat Source Code listed here:
http://opensource.lge.com/osSch/list?types=NAME&search=lgrs988
But at the start of May, I'm doubtful we'll ever get it.
I had thought about going with the unlocked G6, but not any more, as LG is pretty bad about updates on their Unlocked devices.
I have read somewhere that they told a consumer that the RS988 would be updated in May, seeing the source code is a good sign I guess

I downloaded the source code, and the date on the files are from Feb 2017. So I guess there is still hope.
LG Replies (So Far)
I decided to periodically email LG about the Nougat update. My first email received this reply:
<<LG>>
Good day! Thank you for getting in touch with LG Email Services and letting us know about your concern. It’s our pleasure to assist you with your inquiry!
As far as we know and according to the list of updates we found on the following page, there has been an update for the RS988 phone model to Nougat 7.0 that was released this past 24th of March.
Software Updates are generally pushed into devices by the carriers or service providers (e.g. US Cellular, Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile, etc.) that phones are locked with over-the-air (OTA). Factory unlocked phones have no connections to these updates and receive updates through LG via OTA or a software update tool instead.
If you haven't received any notifications about recent software updates on your phone, please try to check for and download the latest update for your unlocked phone via the LG Bridge application. You may download and use this application on a computer from the following page.
Please follow the step-by-step instructions under the ‘PC Sync’ section of the page above.
<</LG>>
My 2nd email brought this response:
<<LG>>
According to the information that we got from our product specialists, unlocked phones should receive an update from LG Over-The-Air once available for the unit. LG OTA updates for unlocked phones have to pass through multiple Quality Checks for several carrier networks or service providers before their release so it takes a considerable amount of time in between releases compared to phones locked with a specific carrier.
Should you require further assistance or for any other concerns, please do not hesitate to email us back. We’re more than happy to help you the best we can.
Feel free to contact us also via Live Chat or Phone by dialing 1-800-793-8896.

Yes its Nougat with Android Security Patch Level of March 01, 2017.
When I updated using the LG Flash Tool, it had to reformat the partitions (user, system ...). Therefore I lost my old data.
I backed up my data before upgrading. Will try to restore using the LG backup tool and report back later.
Don't you need the rs988 dll file to flash. If so where did you find it

I used the LG Update tool from the link below.
Selected the upgrade radio button, followed by the kdz file and let the installation go through.
Again please backup as your data might be lost after the upgrade. To be on the safe side please remove sd card too.

everything seems to be working had to factory reset like you said but just glad to finally have Nougat. Thanks

I guess the April upload is the Nougat one.
https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-rs988-firmwares/
I've been checking my G5 RS988 every day, and still no OTA Nougat update on it. I'd rather go that route as it (should) keep system data & apps in place, instead of doing the update via the LG Software which wipes/formats user data & apps.
I am on verizon and I can confirm the RS98810h_01_0303.kdz from lg-firmwares.com works on my RS988. I performed a backup and update with the tools and drivers provided in AUTOPrimes post linked below. Once I updated the device, I simply loaded the backup tool and restored my device, sms and apps appeared right back to the state they were before. My only question is that the firmware is listed as BPT (brightpoint), will this still include the same bands listed under the unbranded USA rs988?

Unlocked LG G Pad X 8.0 V520 (AT&T) Nougat Update

Update: I'm returning it and went to T-Mobile and got a V521.
Recently with T-Mobile's free line promo I got myself a free line. I picked up an unlocked V520/G Pad X 8.0 (AT&T model). Popped the Tmo sim in and it works great. However, it won't show an OTA update for Nougat, LG Bridge just gives "cannot get software version" errors, and as far as I can tell there is no where to find a KDZ file for the AT&T variant. Confirmed AT&T blocks updates on unlocked devices without AT&T SIM cards.
When I had Nexus devices, I didn't have too many problems flashing variants of stock ROMs while using on T-Mo, anyone successfully flashed the V521 update on the V520 variant? Not really worried about unlocking the bootloader or getting root, just want to be on the latest software -- mine is on a security update from June 2016.
edit: Any ideas on where to get stock AT&T firmware?

What's the magic to get this to update? I have a V520 new out of the box off eBay and I haven't tampered with it (haven't unlocked bootloader, rooted it, etc)... but it's on android 6.0.1 - how does one get this to update to android 7.0?
I'll take a link to that kdz file too, if you'd be so kind! Not sure if I can force the tablet to install that manually, but it's worth a try.
I just received this tablet (Unlocked) and having the same issue. It does not have Nougat OTA update, neither Update can be detected by LG Air Bridge Software. I'll really appreciate if someone can link me to the Nougat file.
Check updates using an AT&T SIM. A user in Slickdeals has reported success - sorry can't post the link - new user here.
Update: I myself tried using AT&T Go phone and it worked.

I also had success yesterday. But even after inserting the sim, it wasn't showing. So I called AT&T tech support, provided the IEMI number and they pushed it instantly.
I also got the LG V520 off ebay. I read in an ATT support forum that it was necessary to have an ATT sim card in the tablet or it will not be able to connect to the update server. The same forum suggested to bring the tablet to an ATT store or the Samsung Experience in a Bestbuy.
I can verify that it is not enough to simply to connect to the ATT wifi in the store, you do actually need to insert an ATT sim. It took some convincing to get the person at the ATT store to pull a sim card from a demo phone to let me try. Here are some tips:
-- The tablet will only allow you to check for an update once every 24 hours. Make sure that you don't check for an update 24hours before going to the store, or once you're there, do a factory reset in order to do the update check.
-- Go to the store when they aren't too busy so they are more willing to help out.
-- Once the tablet detects that there is an update available, you can shut down the tablet and replace with your own sim card. You can then connect to any WIFI connection to finish the update.
Changes in the Nougat ROM:
-- When you create a second profile, it can now enable "install from unknown sources", but there is still no access to the external SD card. It means that the secondary profile can only use the internal memory.
-- ATT pulled the "WIFI Hotspot" feature out of the Nougat ROM.
-- Just like the Marshmallow ROM, phone features do not work. I don't know if this is a firmware lockdown or if it's a software thing.
The lack of hotspot really makes me wish for a custom rom on this tablet. Here's hope we get one soon on the V520

I would just purchase an h2o SIM card. Since h2o is an att reseller, you will get an update within 24 hours.
