Camera Quality Drop drastically after Unlocking bootloader - Sony Xperia XA Ultra Questions & Answers

So I unlocked the bootloader and the camera quality got heavily reduced i checked over my computer too and it's just not even near as before
so i wanted to ask is there any kind of fix or a way to get back the quality also if i did lock my bootloader back will my DRM Keys get back or get back after an OTA Update to Android 7 or a fix from the PC Companion?
Thanks in Advance.

Nope if you didn't back them up before unlocking your bootloader with the new DirtyCow exploit tool then they are gone forever, unfortunately relocking the bootloader will have no effect in bringing them back or flashing a ftf or any update and using another xperia devices keys will turn your device into a permanent paperweight. There is a drm fix to make x reality work again but that's about it nothing will make the camera return to its original performance in low light conditions this is one of the reasons why my xa is staying stock

Had a similar problem. I downloaded ftf file from pc companion and extracted the flashable file with flashtool. U download the mm update 6.0.1 and flash it. Everything should be back to normal.

are you talking about a specific tft file that should be flashed or the entire firmware?

Use pc companion download latest firmware the normal way. Then extract ftf file from the download (look for a tutorial here at xda) then flash it via flashtool. Phone will rectify the camera error but will not restore drm and bl will remain unlocked.

Accidentally bricked my U20a

So... I realize there's multiple threads of people asking help on unbricking in general, but I accidentally re-locked the bootloader before flashing a stock kernel.

It keeps giving me a "no software is available for your phone" message.
I meant to flash the stock kernel on it, but, for some reason, I brain farted and accidentally locked the bootloader.

If you're on gingerbread or lower than you should be able to unlock it again with flashtool, as far as i'm aware. Try a stock firmware flashable with flashtool, there should be some available in the x10mini pro development section of this forum.

It doesn't work; I can't even get to the bootloader unlock opinion. The "Plugins" drop-down menu is empty and fastboot gives me an error message when I try to flash anything.
I guess it's R.I.P for this phone?

I hope you meant to say flashtool, and not fastboot? our phones don't support fastboot. Always choose flashmode...
The Plugins drop-down should be empty because the ROM you're on is unsupported for the unlock-plugin.
However, you should be able to flash the stock kernel, Hold on...
This should be flashable with flashtool. I can't guarantee that it will make your phone work properly, but it will give you back the stock kernel, and possible enable you to unlock your bootloader again, or at least enable you to flash the other firmware you had lying around...

The same thing happened to my xperia mini pro (U20a) when trying to update through SEUS and the software in the pc (PC companion) crashed by performing an illegal operation(Now it is no longer recognized by seus). This result my phone turning into a brick with only a big triangle with ! mark and a phone's picture was displayed on the screen when it turned on. I have never rooted the phone or installed Xrecovery/busybox (learned about them from this forum threads only). So I was anxiously following this thread and installed Flashtool and downloaded the ftf file (220MB) specified in this thread. Then voila, the flash was successful with this and the phone switched on. Now the second level of problem starts. None of the keys ( even the power key) or touch screen responds once the phone boots up.However the SIM is responding to the incoming calls (although cannot receive them as the touch screen is not operational). The battery is 100% charged and sim signal is 100% with sd card successfully mounted . Every time I need to remove the battery to switch it off. The display is now showing current date time (in a blue background) and a lock(left) and speaker (right) icons. Everything is stalled here. Downloaded two more firmwares and bundled them(sin files) in flash tool, but none worked except this fft file.
Please help
PS I have attached the flash tool log file for this flash.
To both of you: Try Repair with PC Companion.
1. Leave the phone unplugged
2. Start PC Companion
3. Choose Support Zone
4. Choose Update
5. It can find no update because your phone is unplugged
6. Click the Repair-link it shows
7. Follow the instructions from there on.
Hope that works, if not: Download this and flash with flashtool.
Thanx for the quick reply.
I have started the pc companion and go to the repair option. However after selecting the model from the list, it started updating. Then BANG!! Again the program performed an illegal operation and shutdown by the window XP.. The entire PC screen hanged and I had to manually kill it by pressing ALT+Ctrl+Del . So it seems this method will not work in my laptop.
Downloading your FTF file and trying it in flash tool. Hope it will work.:crying:
PS: your link is now pointing to the zip file and I have tried the UK version of that already ( by building the ftf from sin files in flash tool) with no improvement. Can you give a ftf file directly like the last one ? Thanx in advance.

Renamed the file from zip to ftf and put it inside the firmwares folder under flash tool. But during firmware selection while flashing, it is not showing anything ( only your earlier ftf file is visible). Am I doing something wrong?

Did you remove the other one you flashed earlier?
Not sure what's going wrong there, it should show up...
You did restart flashtool?
If you are still there
I removed and reinstalled the flash tool. Followed the procedure discussed so far. Still it is not showing in the list.Screen shot attached. The U20 option which is showing is for your earlier ftf file (kernel_locked) and not the renamed one (however if I bundle the sin files and create the ftf by specifying build number, version etc..) it is showing. However , flushing with that made no improvement. It took sometime to respond as I was trying these.

Thank you for the answer. Iam coming from Samsung s4 forum and there we have pre rooted tar.md5 firmware that we can flash with odin. Just the same way we flash stock tar.md5 firmware that sammobile releases. Was wondering if we could take the ftf file and open it than put all the needed files in it for root than make ftf again and than flash it with flashtool.
Possible with CWM or TWRP, like PA, Carbon, CM ROMs.

You're talking about the stock recovery, like on Samsung and HTC devices(?). That doesn't exist on Sony devices as far as i know, so you'll have to do the recovery part from your computer using Flashtool or Sony Companion.

No talking about making a stock ftf firmware that have root in the system. So that we only have to flash the pre rooted ftf firmware for a rooted rom.

Haha! Wrong thread!
To root a FTF file, we need to be able to find an exploit, and that's the issue people are currently working on. You've probably noticed that we have to downgrade to 532 to be able to root, and we're using vRoot which we have no idea how it works. We are all idiots and now we're paying. You'll have to wait until we have rooted 527, or you can use the exploit in 532 which i guess the chinese knows about.

You don't root ftf files. You root the firmware once it is installed via an ftf. The OP wanted to know if you could root a ftf file before it is installed so once installed you already have root, which isn't possible.

Is the problem that .sin files are signed in some way? A FTF is just a zip file containing sin files, and the format of sin files is understood well enough that Flashtool will extract them into elf files that can be mounted with just a small amount of repair, so if you can convert a system.img back into a system.sin, you should in theory be able to have a pre-rooted FTF.
If whoever wrote Flashtool could add a feature to override flashing a sin with an additional img, that would also do it.
(I first rooted my C6833 this way, following the guide at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44612882 )

That sounds very logical and not impossible. Hope some dev can look in to this.
I looked into it a bit more, and in fact sin files are signed (that's actually what the extension is short for, apparently). It was implied that flashmode will only accept signed files, which is why all of the steps to flash rooted image files go through fastboot mode, which can apparently flash anything (is this true? not sure if it it can flash all regions) but is less convenient to use.
That leaves two options for a one-pass rooted update:
1) Find the code responsible for bootloading and alter it to accept an additional signing key. This would have to be fastboot loaded the first time, but would allow modified FTFs later. Downsides: this is the stuff of which hard bricks can be made if anything goes wrong. There will be no way to flash anything if the flashing code itself is broken. Also, it may not even be possible if the code is in a fixed ROM somewhere.
2) Come up with code to unpack FTFs to a series of images that would be flashed sequentially by a fastboot script and discard FTF and sin files as a standard. Downsides: horribly inconvenient, and probably not worth the effort.
Keep in mind that the only thing you are saving yourself by putting it all in one pass is the effort of installing a working CWM kernel briefly to install the SuperSU zip into the freshly flashed FTF, then flashing the original kernel back. Going through a FTF conversion pass is probably more total time spent even if it worked. Without a working CWM kernel, then you would have to go through a bit more effort to unpack the system.sin, modify it, repack it as an image, and flash that, though it's possible someone well trusted could do that and redistribute the result (legally grey), but we seem to be in luck on that front for the moment.

Xperia sola brick! help!

I flashed the firmware from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2030261
after I finished this happened: whenever I connect my cable it shows the red charging light, the screen stays black and I can't get into flashmode either, what do I do?
EDIT: After a little charging it got back to normal, sorry
But now I notice my 3G isn't working now, help
Do you have proper drivers installed if you can access cwm recovery and have a backup restore it. Else drain you battery completely and then fash the stock ftf back
I managed to reflash, reroot and restore stuff on my phone but now 3G doesn't seem to work, anyone knows how to fix this? thanks :>

Yes but maybe not the right one for you.
You can download the file with PCC, start updating and when if finish to download the files and ask to power off the phone, exit and build the FTF sile.

Update Center 'Could not verify'

Hey guys,
Today my phone said the update 17.1.1.A.0.402 is available for me phone. But whenever I try to update it via Update Center app it downloads the firmware and then it's verifying and after a few seconds it says 'could not verify'. I tried to update via PC Companion, but PC Companion says there's no update for my phone. Any idea what's wrong?
My phone has a locked bootloader and it's rooted. I also got dual recovery installed. My firmware is stock, I only rooted it.
It wont let you update if you have a modifed Firmware
Dual recovery and root can be counted as modded firmware
You can use flashtool to flash a stock rom (include system only and exclude data wipe)

He used the repair function in PC Companion, which will wipe the phone and install the latest update.
If you prefer to keep your data, you could just download the 402 firmware FTF file and use Flashtool to flash it, then root the device again. Just ensure that you untick the Wipe Data option in Flashtool.
Yes. I tried to repair it and followed all the steps but it said the software had been changed after I plugged in the USB while holding the volume down.

[Q] Newest firmware 23.0.1.A.4.30, never had root on device

Hi,
My device the SGP511 has never been rooted and I updated already to the newest firmware which may be a bad thing cause I hear I have to unlock bootloader but I cant backup TA without root, so I am stuck in a catch 22. Am I able to go back to an older firmware, do I have to unlock bootloader and lose Sony warranty? What options do I have?
Edit: I wasnt clear, I want to get root access, which was the reason for this post

- Download .314 ftf file of your choice and flash it via Flashtool. (Downgrade)
- Root your device method you chooce. (EasyRootTool, Newroot, Flashtool, XZDualrecovery)
- Backup your TA
- Install XZDualrecovery
- Flash latest prerooted firmware for your device via custom recovery
- Do what ever you want with your device
Basicly no need to unlock your bootloader just to achieve root. You just need to downgrade to rootable firmware and then update it to the latest by flashing prerooted firmware via custom recovery. Or after you achieve root and backed up TA you could unlock your bootloader and etc...

Cool, I got it rooted, now to the TA backup step
To get download to work on mega.co.nz, I used a download manager JDownloader.
