cannot flash TWRP on my Samsung Galaxy S3 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Recently I bought a second hand Samsung Galaxy SIII 9300 with Android 4.3. Because of privacy reasons I’d like to install cm 13.0 on the phone. I already had CM on my former phone, the Nexus 4. This was very easy to install, but I have some difficties with the Samsung Galaxy S3. These are the things I already tried:
I tried to install TWRP 2.8.4 and CWM via Odin 3.1203 in Windows 8. You can see here the log:

I enabled USB debugging
I unchecked Auto-reboot in Odin.
After I installed TWRP I removed the battery.
Can you help me with my problem?

According to Odin, TWRP succeeded. Can you boot into TWRP? You flashed the correct version of TWRP?

Hello
I cannot boot into TWRP. I am sorry to put it in my question, but that is my question. I tried to flash TWRP 3.0.2.2

Open Odin, only check f reset time, flash, when you see the "reset" in the Odin status window, remove USB cable from phone, remove battery, replace battery, use buttons to get into TWRP.

Root then flash. Flash Chainfire autoroot then flash your recovery, then flash your rom.
Beamed in by telepathy.

I worked!!!! I has to root the phone and than flash TWRL. Thankt you very much!!!

You're welcome. Further advice is to make a backup of your phone once it is set up as you like it. That way, if anything goes tits up you have half of the job already done.
With twrp it's only a matter of time before it (twrp) goes mental and you'll have to resetyour device amd start over. I found the last official clockworkmod recovery the most reliable and have had 2 solid years from it. Also, get a copy of your stock rom from somewhere. You'll need that one day too!.

Hi, thanks. This worked for my GT-i9305.
I had previously done the flash for GT-i9300 years ago and was stuck on the same issue as the op.

ics flashing gone wrong

Hi! A newbie here.
I wanted to flash ics rom over 2.3.4(device is rooted(superoneclick)).
I downloaded rom manager via market, tried getting into CWrecovery, however got this message: E:"Failed to verify whole-file signature".
I read somewhere that I need to flash "PDA" with a .tar via Odin in order for CWR to work. So I downloaded the tar mentioned on the site, then began flashing, with the following results:
<ID:0/005> Odin v.3 engine (ID:5)..
<ID:0/005> File analysis..
<ID:0/005> SetupConnection..
<ID:0/005> Initialzation..

<ID:0/005> NAND Write Start!!
<ID:0/005>
<ID:0/005> Complete(Write) operation failed.
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 1)
Now, when I turn my phone on it says: "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in kies & try again."
Kies can not recognize the phone, however, Odin can, and pc does the connected beep when device is reconnected.
Is there a way for me to fix my phone, or did I just made a brick out of it?
Flash back to the stock from and then retry. That's what I did for my very first from too.

I apologize humbly for my n00bishness, but how do I do that exactly?

Retry.
Try a different usb port and different usb cable.
I downloaded a different rom, rooted with cwm, made a backup, copied cooked rom next to backup, restored rom via cwm.
working like a charm, thank you everyone.

Have I bricked my S3?

Hi, after trying out some custom roms like CM9-10 and Omega my phone suddenly started rebooting. It lets me enter the PIN and starts up but after a qouple of seconds it reboots again.
The wierd part is that it autostarts after I insert the battery, but I can enter both CWM and Download mode.
I have tried enter CWM and do a wipe but phone reboots in the middle of the process, same goes when trying to flash CM9 or any other rom I have on the internal SD.
I have also tried following a Swedish guide to restore it to stock using Odin, but after adding the PDA and pressing start I get a Fail in Odin to, something about NAND write fails.
Does anyone have a solution for me? Should I tick re-partition or do something other in Odin?
I would suggest boot into recovery. Wipe Dalvik cache. Flash Rom. Wipe both caches. reboot.

Well I think so, it was sold in Sweden.
The problem is that it reboots doing most of the actions in CWM, I think I have managed to wipe Dalvik but as soon as I try to install a rom it just reboots.
I also tried rooting again using Odin 1.85 but it fails with that version too.

If all else fails get yourself a S3 USB Jig. I bought one, funnily enough it arrived today from Hong Kong and it only cost something like 2,50€ delivered free. Then install a stock rom.

If your Nand is corrupt i dont think you can get out of it......99 percent of the time if you can get into download mode your good. but if you having Nand Write issues, i dont know if there is a coming back from that.
hope thats not the case and another member can shed some better light on the subject.

Could you post a link to that thread? I found this one and have tried flashing some of the PIT-files but it does not work. Or should I flash some other files at the same time?
Ok, following one guide witch seams to fix my problem is that I need a 3-part firmware. Every Firmware I have downloaded contains:
boot, cache, hidden, modem, recovery, system -if I extract them one extra time. Is that right? Where should I load them in odin in that case? If not could anyone direct me to a download-page for 3-part firmwares? (I downloaded the last one from samfirmware.com)
It is very strange that the core functions kind of work as I can boot normaly into the system and even run an app if I am fast, then reboot.
Downloadmode works untill I try to flash something.
CWM works until I try to do a Wipe or flash a rom, I can wipe dalvik and some other stuff, but not cache, data and some other. I noticed that You could partition sdcard from CWM should I try that? and if so what should i select in the next screen about partition size?

[Q] What to do with broken S3?

Hi, could anyone tell me please what i can do with bootlooping S3? It happened on version of CM11 rom, it was workin fine until this one time i plug it to charge it and from then it is just staying on galaxy S3 logo. I can get to download mode and recovery mode but odin wont flash anything and in cwm (touch recovery 6.0.4.4) it says that it cannot mount anything and errors and partition fails.

First of all READ. As everybody is saying Ok first question, when You go download mode can you see model name - 9300GT ? If so that means everygthing is solveable.
Next you have messed something and You need to step by step check it. If You want to still work on CM11 you need to flash CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4 to make sure that on the level of recovery everything is ok.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27049380&nocache=1&z=1947389626875519
Than try to flash again Your ROM. We will see where this will bring You.
Thx for reply. So i can see model name in download mode GT-9300 and as you said i try to flash that kernel...

When I used to be having such problem I was trying to chaoticlly flash everything. Now I can say that this was stupid. Every sytuation is diffrent but some are simmiliar.
Try this topic at least You will be having stock rom with fully func. S3 If it helps you than you will go with Custom ROM otherwise>>> Root and than ROM.

If this will not solve the problem we will see other oppurtunities.

[Q] [Odin] Flashing twrp fails

Hello,
I am trying to flash openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.0-i9300.tar to my Galaxy S3 i9300 with Odin 3.09
The process seems to complete successfully and Odin shows a [PASS!] but once i reboot in recovery mode TWRP is not there
(i get a "android recovery mode <3e>" screen which i suppose is a vanilla/default recovery mode?).
PS. i have kies3 latest edition installed and windows7 x64 seem to indicate that all phone drivers are installed correctly.

Try again untick reboot in odin wait until it flashes switch phone off or pull battery and reboot manually Volume up + Home+Power see if that works.
Flash CWM first. After that you can try flash TWRP via odin or via recovery

I am not familiar with CWM, i will be googling it now and see what i can find in case i need to proceed with it.
I found this CWM bundle that also has a version of odin that reportedly works with my i9300.
MEGA_CO_NZ link -> /#!csdzBRRb!V-ZDrGuVB29Ywq9tdE64BGGJwpNvHFibeS9TQ2y2p1o samsung-galaxy-s3-i9300-touch-cwm-odin.zip
followed the steps but boom even that was to no avail (i also tried to refollow the steps once with the no restart option @tallman43 mentioned.

Galaxy J7 (SM-j700T) Unable to Get into TWRP Recovery

Keep in mind I am new to this stuff.
So I am trying to root my phone, Samsung Galaxy J7 (Model SM-J700T, Android 6.0.1), but I cannot get to the TWRP recovery screen despite ODIN saying "Pass". Instead of bringing me to the TWRP it bring me to the Samsung logo with "recovery is not seandroid enforcing" in the top left hand corner, and then brings me back to my home screen.

Same issue here. Just picked up new Galaxy J7 2016 model SM-J700T and ODIN latest TWRP but no recovery access and same Red RECOVERY IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING on boot screen. Most likely there is a change and the TWRP work for all J700 variants except the "T" model until revised I would guess. So, guessing were all stuck till someone catches up and provides a newer TWRP or solution.
Anyone know where to find an extracted stock recovery for the "T" variant to ODIN back for now?
Yeah I just got mine today came home booted windows and followed the post in the thread that showed how to do it and I get the same error. <sigh> guess I should have read more but defiantly need to find the stock recovery or a way to make twrp work....
Created Stock Recovery to Put Back For Now
Since we were all messed up applying TWRP Recovery. Here is the ODIN flashable stock recovery Android 6.0.1. Just created and flashed it back to my T-Mobile SM-J700T and it says Official once again instead of Custom. For those interested in putting your phone back to normal for now. Test booted into Recovery as well.

I am rooted and like you all, I have no recovery just a red message
"recovery is not seandroid enforcing" I have had no luck with any recovery flash attempts and I also do not have super user but I did when I very first flashed the correct file for root?
I tried to Odin flash the file you have shared as stock recovery image but I am not sure if I am using correct Odin version...
I tried to flash in a newer Odin under AP and when that didnt work I tried Odin v1.85 and selected PDA. Neither of these worked for me.
Please advise on which Odin version to use and then which location to select? Thank you much!!
There has been no real focus on custom development for this phone. I have searched forever and this is the first phone I've bought that Developers are not really focusing on. I also have an s6 Edge+. Because it cost me $800 after taxes. I guess that's worthy!
I have problem too!

Damn me too and need to root for unlock my phone UFFF any help for this model for now ¿?
Thank !!!
Seems I have the same (or similar) issue. Install TWRP with Odin and it always passes install. Then when I try to enter TWRP recovery mode the factory recovery always comes up!
Tried w/ auto-reboot on and off.
Tried, after install, to turn off phone with vol-dwn/home/power THEN immediately (on screen blanking) switch to vol-up/home/power
Tried w/ auto-reboot on.
Tried w/ reboot off to just remove the battery then replace the battery and go into recovery, etc.
Every combination that I can think of, or have read about, all no good. Nothing I do gets me into TWRP recovery, always recovery is the factory Android recovery.
Any ideas, folks?
Thanks!
