I have a Sprint Galaxy Note 4 that I have cracked the screen on. I wish to fix this, however, the Note 4 displays are like $150+. You can buy the glass separately for like $10 but then you have to heat the edge up to 190F to separate it from the digitizer. Not sure how I feel about that...I might try it though, but if I wreck the phone then I will have to get something new (to me) regardless. Plus the Sprint Note 4 ROM support is pretty bad, there's really only 1 ROM that is receiving regular updates and it runs like crap on my phone. On the flip side I am still paying for this stupid Note 4, at least I got from Sprint for $360 rather than the original $720. So I'm going to have to pay it off regardless.

LG G3s are now under $150 on eBay, brand spanking new. I had an LG G2 before and I LOVED LOVED LOVED it. I was browsing the Sprint LG G3 Android Development folders and it seems like there's still pretty good ROM support for the G3. I could get an LG G3 and just set my Note aside. I would be THRILLED to have buttons on the back again, I really miss that.
OR
I could also do something completely different like a Moto G4 plus but it's more, like $249.

How long are you guys planning on hanging on to your G3's? The size of the audience can drive ROM development, in my experience.
Is the LG G4 really that significant of an upgrade? What about the G5?
What would you do if you were in my shoes? Keep in mind I'm cheap.

Been debating on this for a while, and think I'm going to pick up something new this week if I decide to grab a new phone.
Phone will be on Verizon.
I'll be using this 90% of the time in the PAC NW area of the country. other 10% will be divided up between DC/South US/Hawaii/INTL.
I've been checking spec comparisons between them and a few other phones on multiple sites, but wanted to see if any of you had a first hand opinion between these choices.
Right now I'm looking at the Moto X (32GB) , LG G2, HTC ONE, and Galaxy S4, was thinking about getting the Nexus 5 and jumping carriers, but I really can't see any benefit to it that the other phones don't have aside from vanilla android.

My biggest pros for any of the newer ones are the scratch resistant screen, more LTE bands & more GSM bands for when I travel.
As well as NFC would be fun to mess around with, as well as the faster cpu / gpu / more ram. Granted I can't think of anything the rezound hasn't been able to run aside from GTA-VC which is only second hand to me as I haven't tried it.

I have the HTC one and I can tell u it's GREAT. I didn't think any phones were worth upgrading from the rezound this year but when my phone cracked 3 weeks ago I had to get a new one. I went threw the same comparisons but instead of nexus 5 it was note 3. I knew the specs of the note 3 were the best of them all but I really don't like touchwiz so that was out of the question and the s4. Then I saw the moto x but it was still $199 at Verizon and $99 on every other carrier plus no moto maker so that was out of the question. Then it was the one vs g2. I used both at a Verizon store and well the G2 was nice the one and it's metal build were just so much nicer. Also the speakers were a great add on and I wasn't really feeling the button on the back of the G2. Also the one has the highest ppi of all the phones not the s4. Either phone is a great choice but I can tell u I get 3.5-4 hours screen on time easy with auto brightness on the one and about a day and a half usage moderate. Also I have experienced no lag whatsoever on the one

Any of them would be step up, you wouldn't be disappointed at all, but the LG G2 is a beast (3000mah battery) if you are stuck with Verizon for whatever reason, but if you can jump ship the Nexus 5 on a pre-paid GSM carrier is the way to go, for an unlimited talk/text plan with 2-3Gb data it will run you $45-$60/month... saving about $40-$55 monthly over a standard VZW plan easily paying for the phone in 6-9 months.

Super smooth/fast, beautiful screen, cool speakers...hate the UI. The more I tried to do basic tasks the less I liked it. The two buttons didn't help either. Basically, I recommend going into a store and just pretending like the phones are yours. Specs and reviews and videos and what everyone else thinks doesn't really matter in the end, the phone has work with you.
I'm sure with some new roms etc I could find a way to be happy with the One...but I need some time to get over my frustrations first good luck!

I was holding out hope that the Nexus 5 would some how come to VZW. While I was waiting, my wife picked out the G2. I put Scott Scrosler's Clean ROM and she really enjoys this phone. I've been playing with it and waiting for the Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals. I found a way to get the G2 for free. This phone is great and there's a lot of dev support. If you have to stick with VZW and the price of all the phones is the same, I recommend the G2.

They did for a while, but @beaups got it working... at least until the KK update drops and VZW tries again.

I have had the one for a little over a month. Will say its a good phone with good battery life. Sure there is the possible purple tent issue but nor all of them has this problem. Best to check the camera out by covering the lens with your hand and see if you get the purple tent. Rooting is easy and as always some great ROMs already out there. The all aluminium body is a real plus for this phone.
I tried the camera on the moto line of phones and the picture just turned out grainy and bad. Even with the one purple tent in low light settings its still takes a great pic just like the s4 does. Think HTC finally got sense under control as its not laggy and doesn't seem as a battery drain like older versions of sense was. In the end people likes different things and you will never know till you use it. Nice thing Verizon has the 14 day return policies. Good luck in your choice.

I ended up ordering the LG G2 (staying with verizon) from bestbuy.
last sunday, (the 17th) I noticed that bestbuy had all of the lg g2s marked down to 100$ and had a 50$ gift card, so I checked it out on the best buy website, and saw that you had to bring in a working smartphone to trade in to get it at that price, but if you ordered online, it took the 50$ off instantly.
While looking on the Bestbuy website at the LG G2s, for some reason, even though every other carriers version was $99.99, the verizon one was listed at $49.99.
I ordered it online, thinking they would kick the order out and that it was an errror or something.
I figured $50 for the phone and a $50 bestbuy giftcard, probably an error or an early black friday price mistake.
They sent an email the next day saying there was an urgent problem with the order and call within 48 hrs or it would be cancelled, I called and the rep couldnt figure out why it sent me that email, and after being on hold for about 30 minutes came back and said they called shipping and had them force the order though.
They also said they spoke to verizon and had it activated, I didn't think anything of it at the time and just said thanks.
After the call, i put the phone down and a few minutes later went to call my wife, but when I hit send, it rang and then said "this phone is not registered with verizon" or something to that effect, then I remembered the rep said they activated the new phone. FACEPALM time.
I tried a few other numbers, same error message. tried 611, it rang! went through 3 reps telling them exactly what I thought happened (the bestbuy person got confused and got someone from vzw to activate a new phone on my line w/o a new imei or new sim somehow). 3rd rep i spoke with said that was exactly what happened. took about 10-15 minutes but reset everything back to my original imei/sim (the htc rezound). so now i can make calls again.
2 days later got a shipment notification email.
of note- I noticed monday morning when I logged into bestbuys website to check the order status (this is before receiving the problem email) to see if it shipped yet, and the price was up to $99.99 for all carriers including verizon, and now had an extra line on the page- it's 150 at the store, and when you bring in a smartphone to trade in, you get a 50$ gift card that you then HAVE to use in the transaction to get the price down to $99.99. online orders still took the price to $99.99 immediately.
Been checking today since it's supposed to arrive today, and it looks like it's back up to 199.99 and they are still doing the gift card, but you have to trade in a smartphone and use the giftcard on the spot to get it down to 150.
tl:dr-
50$ for the G2, free shipping (but slowwwwwww, totally should have paid the 10$ to get it in 2 days if i knew it was going to take 7 days) and 50$ best buy gift card.
and i finally got the email an hour ago for the 50$ bestbuy egiftcard.
of note, they pricematch, so I'm hoping someone lowers it to $.01 for black friday and then I can go get my $50 back and have it for free!
chose the g2 since it was marked down so low and has the faster CPU/GPU, even though i won't be able to change the battery (but it does have the biggest stock battery at 3000ma, which is awesome since my std rezound battery only lasts a few hours and the extended battery doesn't even last a day anymore)

after a week with the G2, i've got to say it's amazing. I still have the rezound and will start tinkering with it since i finally have another device, but the G2 is insanely fast at everything so far. love it. can't recommend it enough.
It seems that of all the VZW Android phones for sale new today, that the G3 is about the most modifiable unit available.
I'm seriously thinking about switching to VZW and buying a new G3 like today or tomorrow but have some questions about the firmware version the new units are currently shipping with...
Anybody know what the currently shipping firmware version is on brand new units?
And is it still rootable / able to have custom ROMS installed on it? Or have all the exploits that allowed this been discovered and plugged up?
I am not a complete stranger to rooting and custom ROMs, having done this to my HTC Desire, but that was nearly 3 years ago and I've been running the same CM7 build on it taken from a June 2012 nightly build that was an exceptionally good one. And yes, I'm still running a 4 year old US Cellular android 2.x phone :laugh: because it's been a rock-solid juggernaut that's always been dependable and I've gotten every penny's worth out of it. It's time to move on to a more modern phone plus I need the better network coverage of VZW's network and nation-wide data that USCC simply doesn't have.
I've read thru a couple hundred pages here on XDA about the VS985 and understand that the G3 can generally be downgraded to an older version of the firmware to facilitate these things, but there seem to be some caveats on getting into download mode on later versions and just want to be comfortable that I'm not going to get a phone that has been finally locked down into a dead-end street of running only official software.

It's too big. The G3 is pushing my limits for a phone size, I would actually like it to be a bit smaller.
No SD card is a real showstopper for me. Google is retarded for doing that.
Non-removable battery isn't quite a showstopper, but still a big turn-off.
The G3 being a 2014 year model, is still quite a capable device but is now also becoming very affordable now that the 2015 phones like the HTC M9 and the Sammy GS6 are hitting the market and capturing the attention.
Normally, I'd just pay retail and do a month-2-month plan, but by signing up for Verizon Edge 24 month 0% finance plan to buy the phone, the extra $15/month discount on the data plan almost pays for the phone... it's actually cheaper for the whole 24 month period to do it this way than to pay full retail or do the $99 2 year subsidized purchase. I'll be paying nearly the same exact monthly bill by switching to VZW and getting this new phone as I'm currently handing over each month to USCC and getting crappy data, no data roaming, no tethering, and operating a 4 yr old phone.
Being able to root&rom the G3 even with a locked bootloader is also a definite plus as well. I'm not a constant tinkerer with my phones, but I do want the option to have root, debloat the apps and/or run a custom rom if I so desire.
yea, the n6 seemed big for the first week or so i had it, but i love it now, and the development is bar none.
yes there is development for g3 but its limited to a handful of roms.
not trying to put the g3 down, i have one, just if you can get used to the n6, its a no brainer if you like to mod your phone.

You won't be mad at yourself if you grab a g3 though, especially if you're saving $ & upgrading your service. It is big, not as big as others, but you'll get used to it and probably actually prefer it after watching some videos on your qhd screen and taking some pics with the excellent g3 camera. You may have to roll back to get root depending on your version, but that's not a difficult thing to do at all. Once you're rolled back you can have root and custom recovery in @ 10-15min...super easy.
Another option is you can always take a phone for a test drive depending on where you buy it, so if you're undecided maybe that would be best so you have no regrets. Amazon has a 2 week return policy & they ship really fast, so if you get a phone and don't like it just return it and get something else for no charge :good:

Looks like the G3 is going to be good to go for my needs and desires. I'm a tightwad and the G3 seems to be a great bang for the buck value right now so Im going to pull the trigger either tomorrow or Thursday and get one. Even though the Bumped roms available for it might be a bit limited for a hardcore modder, I think they'll be perfectly suited for me. All I want is mainly root and de-bloat the apps I'll never use. I do want a good camera and lots of storage so this will likely be a good handset for me.... just hope it lasts for 2 years :fingers-crossed:

And we both couldn't help but notice that the screen on the G2 looked noticeably sharper than the G3. Don't get me wrong. I'm not hating on the G3. I love this phone. But I also found myself missing the look and feel of the G2. Am I crazy or are LG's products just that damn good? I really wanna play with a G4. LG stole me away from Samsung a couple years ago. I walked into the Verizon store fully intent on purchasing a Note 3. I picked up the G2 and knew that was the phone phone for me. Now I knew I was taking a huge gamble on LG (not really, had 2 weeks to decide if I wanted to keep it) but I'm so glad I did. LG has really turned into a powerhouse company in my eyes. Just some food for thought!
I swapped from the Galaxy s4 to the LG G2 just the rear buttons and how it made the bezels on the phone so thin sucked me in. Now I have a G3 and am considering the g4

I plan to upgrade my Verizon Note 2 within a few days and research points to the G3 as being the best choice for me. I still have the unlimited plan so I have to purchase the phone at full price and this appears the best bang for the buck. Verizon has crippled the Samsung line of phones in my opinion, but the G3 looks good. Is the G3 a good choice?
I have used a note 3 for some months and I like the g3 more. It feels snappier and is sized appropriately.
The pen is a good feature on the note, but I found myself hardly using it therefore it was almost useless.

The G3 is definitely a great phone. Never had a Note, but for me, the G3 has been the best Android smartphone I've had yet (previously, it was my Droid RAZR HD with unlocked bootloader), but performance and stability-wise, the G3 has been the best phone I've had.
LG G Pad F7.0 Questions/Help
Hello Everyone,
So I just received my LG G Pad F7.0 from Sprint. This is my first ever Android Tablet (or tablet period for that matter). I never thought I would use a tablet enough to justify purchasing one. Well, Sprint gave me the LG G pad for free, with free activation and free two day shipping. I pay only $10.00 a month for the "line/data access" or whatever. Overall I really like the tablet. It seems pretty quick and snappy. The display quality is pretty good as well. The only downfall is that it only has 8GB of storage. No big deal though being it has a micro SD slot. So I think I did pretty well for $10 a month.
The main thing I am wondering is if I can do a clean bone stock install of Android Lollipop. Don't get me wrong, I love the UI and the added features on this device. The reason I am asking is because when I received the package yesterday there were TWO brand new, Sealed LG G Pad F7.0 tablets in it. The packing slip only shows ONE tablet. So I fully charged and fired up the tablet that matched the serial number on the packing slip. It activated fine, and is now on my account. The sim card in it was obviously already pre-registered for my account.
The second tablet will not do anything. It gets to the activation screen and just sits there forever. I initially pulled out the sim card before I even turned it on. It did the same thing, sits at the activation screen forever. I can not get past this screen with or without the sim card in it. I do not want to put my sim card in it because I don't want it to pull on my account somehow. I would like to install a bone stock Android Lollipop OS on it, buy this rubber bumper case on eBay for it, and give it to my 3 year old son.
Any advice on how to get the 2nd tablet going would be greatly appreciated.
PS: I could not find a thread area for the LG G Pad F7.0 / 7.0. Only the 8 and 10. If this thread is more appropriate elsewhere please let me know. I am new to this forum.
PSS: I am really taking a liking to Android! I have been an iPhone user since the 3G. I definitely feel it is time to switch things up! iPhones are so boring! I am seeing all of the extra stuff and mods you can do to Androids and I love it! I currently own an iPhone 6 but when the new Nexus 5/6 drops this fall I am going to get one! (I am not in a contract on my phone for Sprint like I am the tablet now, I paid for my device in full so I only pay $50 a month plus insurance)
