Review - Leelbox Q2 TV Box android 6.0/2G/8G/64Bits/Amlogic S905X - Android Stick & Console AMLogic based Computers

I noticed there weren't many posts on Leelboxes on XDA so I'll provide some quick input for anyone who may search for a review or want to ask questions.
Recently I bought a Q2 on Amazon and finally set it up last night.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N63M03X/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Opening the box/contents
-The box had some wear on it but overall in decent shape
+Comes with power cable, hdmi, remote (no batteries)
-The box had a fairly strong plastic/soldering smell and ins't very appealing visually
Setup
- Plugging in the power starts up the device so I had everything (HDMI, mouse/keyboard) already plugged in/No physical power button
++ Quick boot up and short animation screen
-/+ Decent launcher screen probably depends on preference
-/+ Needed to adjust the screen area down to 90% as it was displaying outside of my viewing area
- Remote sluggish
+ Wireless USB keyboard and mouse are plug and play
- Still haven't figured out how to turn off the on-screen keyboard as the settings menu is device specific
- Playstore and adding Google account FC'd the first time I opened it
Customizing
+++++ Installed SuperSu from Playstore and went through the "normal" non-recovery install process successfully!
+ Installed Leanback Launcher/Google TV v1.14 (newer versions FC) APK from APK mirror and home launcher switcher
++ Kodi and addons preinstalled and setup
-Google Now launcher has icon text issues (words are cut off)
+Installed hidden settings
Performance
+ 5ghz wifi running well
- Some UI lag/stuttering
- App install a little slower than hoped
- Device comes with a memory cleaner button on the provided launcher. Once mem usage hits 80%, stuttering gets annoying. Installed memory cleaner and still evaluating.
+ Video very smooth in Kodi and Youtube
More to come but hope this helps.

How is the leelbox Q2 running? Have you tried miracast with a Windows10 laptop? Looking for a device to primarily do this.

Still running well. Mainly use it for Kodi and YT. I found an older version of Nexus Player launcher that works (except suggestions) and looks better than stock.
One complaint I do have, I couldn't get any emulators to recognize USB gamepads. If you want to do any of that, I'd stay away.
I haven't tried Miracast at all but I will if you're still interested. Let me know.

Hey there... I have a question for you. How's the video playback on your box?? I really this box, especially since it has Bluetooth and there is hardly any lag, however, I have had bad luck with it from the get-go. My video playback is horrible! The screen flickers and goes really dark when the scene is shot at night or it's indoors. Sometimes my tv goes black and if it weren't for the captioning, you'd think it's just off. Then the image perks up when the scene is outside or a really bright shot. It really does a number on my eyes as it's a constant thing. I did reach out to their customer service and they have been responsive and sent over instructions to try and fix this, but that hasn't worked. I even got the box replaced, but the issue persists. I'm thinking maybe it's a setting at this point. Would you happen to know if there is a fix to this or is there anything you would suggest? Thanks in advance!

Hi,
Kodi seems a bit darker so I have an display setting on my TV that I toggle to vibrant and its much better. HBO Go feels the same. Other than those though, Youtube and Netflix are fine.
Any chance your HDMI cable is bad?

if it's bricked but usb burning tool recognize it but it's stuck at 2% with Romcode/Initialize DDR/Read initialize status/USB Control setup error, do someone know how to unbrick it?

no video, i cant enter recovery, but now usb burning tool recognize it without even the need to push the reset button when i plug in the usb

I haven't tried flashing a new rom for this device yet so I may not be the best to help you. But from what I've read, the USB burning tool is your best bet. From experience, it may be a good idea to try flashing with another computer. Also, re-download the imgs.

Hello! Sorry for the late reply, but I have changed HDMI cables twice and changed ports on the TV. Also, I have used an older TV I have with this box and it just doesn't work. The video just bounces from light to dark when on Netflix or streaming any other type of video including YouTube. I have attempted to play with any settings on the box but nothing changes. Kinda bummed, oh well right?

I read something in another thread where the person created a new ROM for devices LIKE ours. I believe some have used it but can't say if it works. Seems your issue is common:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/search/thread/3513805?query=dark

Hi,
In product description it said this is dual wifi enabled (2.4 and 5Ghz) box. So I installed internet wifi router with 2.4 and 5GHz possibility, and Q2 Pro box pick up just 2.4Ghz signal.
Then I turned off manually 2.4GHz possibility in router and Q2 Pro box didn't see any wifi network, while my LCD and PS4 was connected on 5GHz without problem.
So, my question is, how to enable receiving 5Ghz wifi signal on Q2 Pro box?
Thank you

I've been having some trouble rooting the Q2 Mini Leelbox, wondering is that a different model than the Q2? i am also having an issue changing the default home launcher on my box, it seems like the Zonglauncher that is installed on it wants to be the only proprietary launcher option an because i cant gain root, I can't run effin system app deletion.
I figured kingroot would do it, but it has not been of any help so far. Shoot I've googled Root Leelbox Q2 mini and pretty much theres nothing out there. must not be a very popular box. now that i noticed it is rockchip, i'm a little disappointed with it, might even return it, but it does have 2G/8G for only 43 Dollars on amazon.

did anyone install recovery twrp and Magisk?

It must be a different version. If I recall correctly, I didn't have to install anything to get root. I just ran a root checker and confirmed I was good to go.
I also was able to install any launcher I wanted. But in the end, their launcher was good enough for the apps I use (Kodi, Netflix, HBO Go, Youtube).

No. I don't think there is a TWRP version for this device.

I ended up shipping it back for a refund. Really was quite a pos if I ever did see one. Made me pretty angry tbh, it was a rockchip anyways I mean it did have 2g/8g but certainly performed worse than some 1g/8gs ice bought in the past.

i have the mini
*works fine ..no lag or stuttering
*only problem is weak wifi with no 5ghz support
#im looking for info regarding using a d'link wifi dongle with it to boost wifi
to everyone this box is prerooted
install any app and if it requests root it will be given root automatically without even a toast message
you can enter recovery and factory reset or flash updates or even flash update zips by inserting a needle / pin / toothpick into the headphone jack amd pushing down at which point you will feel the button click...keep the button in then pull out the power cord and put it back in and it will boot to recovery ...you can rename supersu as update.zip amd flash it from sd card to replace root or get root management apk installed ..you can also install supersu apk directly from playstore
you can enable developer settings by usual means by pressing on version number in settings/about
i am looking into solving wifi problem first ...then i will try to flash custom images
my first workaround is to boot Ubuntu from sd card and install opemelec or omc or similar
*reason is amazon prime video fails playback in both apk or browser
*netflix is working fine through apk
*kodi is running smoothly
by installing linux through sd card i will try to get better wifi by wifi dongle and then by getting playback working for amazon video ..if i succeed i will create a thread and a post a link and proceed from there ..i think we might be able to port or flash some other custom firmware too ...i will try it after Ubuntu....

hello
i just buy a leelbox q4 plus and i searsh in the net for root this android tv box but i dont found , it s this box https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07P7MFR5L/ref=emc_b_5_t
maybe it s not possible but if it s possible maybe you help me for that thank for advance

[Q] Dock options not launching

Hi Guys,
I have a 1.8.3 AT&T Atrix (update from 1.5.7 with retainroot) other than that it's pretty much stock. However since updating i've noticed when I plugin to my Multimedia dock nothing pops up to launch - not even the clock option when theres no detected HDMI output.
However when the TV is setup to that output I do see the "M" logo floating around - I can't see how to manually launch any of the AT&T apps to test the functionality either!
Please help
UPDATE:
Usually the remote control I can manually launch the Entertainment Mode (Top left button) but when selecting webtop it just goes back to desktop, still no auto launch when plugging into dock.... must be something missing. Only app I've uninstalled is blockbuster.
theres a funky issue with the adapter being plugged into a power strip. If that applies, try plugging it directly into an outlet and see if that works.

Thanks for the suggestion but did not change my situation. Moved my dock from bedroom TV to my monitor and getting same results (but able to test things much faster
It's clear to me when inserted into the Dock, the phone notices and changes the screen output right away (M logo on TV) and the screen on the phone "refreshes" but the application which launches and asks you what you want to do doesn't launch.
Damn thing - driving me batty now, I might just re-SBF and see how I go!
UDPATE: I think I see the problem, during my 1.8.3. update it failed on the radio, according to MANFIEST.MF that is not the last thing it applies, the very next items are webtop/etc
going to try modify the MANIFEST.MF & updater-script to skip updating the radio band and apply the update.zip again hopefully it'll continue patching the webtop mod and it will function again.
All done & fixed, turns out that was the problem and the solution. Weird, wonder if anyone else had the problem where the baseband image would not apply when doing the 1.8.3 update.
If so, see above, you can modify your update-script to skip that step and then manually apply HSUPA update separately. Once again not sure how I got into this mess, potentially having HSUPA update on before 1.8.3 upgrade was my problem in the first place...
I have the same issue with the official orange fr 4.2.0 (2.2.2) rom after flashed it with rsd lite... I tried to flash other sbf, but nothing works, I can't use my laptop and hd docks anymore...
Do you know a way to correct this issue ?

[Q] - Ca-Fi Android Car Stereo

Does anyone have the Ca-Fi Android car stereo? It seems it was recently released. I really want one, and will probably get one.
ca-fi.com/en/
Im debating on ordering one too.... though they list a 800mhz and a 1.2ghz version. Seems the 800mhz version is the only one available
Wish XDA would make a section for it and some custom **** was done with it!
total junk. save your money
I got one yesterday and installed it. Save your money. Its total junk. Was definatelu rushed to market.
No android market (yes you read that right)
Navigation requires data connection either through hsdpa gsm 3g or wifi (meaning you have to provide data for navigation to work at all)
Voice navigation doesnt work (it asks you to install additional files via the market, which again doesnt exist so it fails)
Every time i start the unit it goes to fm radio even when i dont want it to. Force closing the radio app does nothing.
The list goes on and on and on. NEVER AGAIN

Oh that's disappointing. I'm still considering buying one, just to see if I can root it, and fix some of the problems that you listed.

I actually thkught about that too. Problem is you really cant connect it to a pc so any rooting work woukd have to be done via microsd card and run natively in 2.2. Not only that even if you root it theres no gurantee the android market would be installed as the "default" market. This means the voice navigation may never be solved.
Long story short, i am veey disappointed. :-(
that unfortunately, I wanted one for my birthday

Doesn't it have a USB port on it?
I made the same mistake of purchasing one. I have been unsuccessful in trying to root it. Z4 will just freeze the device requiring a power cycle. I attempted to connect via USB but did not have any luck using this method either. The problem is that the radio runs both USB ports in Host mode. This keeps it from showing up as a device when you connect it to a computer. I have tried both the front and rear ports with Windows and Linux.
I did manage to get the Android Market app installed. It took a good bit of work and involved copying the Google apps including first boot to an SDcard and sideloading them. The first boot app did break my home button, it currently does nothing and I can't figure out how to re associate it with the launcher.
Once I was able to connect my Google account, I was able to sideload the market apk. Of course, this required working wifi. The dumb device is configured for wifi using a wpa_supplicant file which specifies that 802.1x authentication is required. Seeing as I'm not using this on my wifi, I needed an app called wifi fixer to override this setting. I also needed to setup an unsecured wireless network because I couldn't get wifi-fixer to connect to a wep or wpa network. Once connected, the wireless was very spotty but worked long enough for what I needed.
After all this was completed, I was able to download an offline navigation app, copilot live, that would allow me to use the device as a nav while I wasn't sitting in the driveway connected to the wifi. I did try connecting to my rooted DroidX with CM7 using wifi tether but could not get the radio to complete the connection.
As shassouneh pointed out, it boots into FM Radio every time its powered on. This allows it to start playing music quickly, but is very annoying. I typically stream music from my phone over bluetooth which requires the volume to be much louder than when listening to the FM Radio. When you start the vehicle, the volume is remembered and will be deafening. The FM radio application is very buggy and it will take several attempts to save your radio presets with an acceptable name. It tries to use the digitally broadcast station information as the preset name, but often it just returns garbage. After trying some twenty times, I was able to get most of my presets to read the frequency and the FCC station name. (ex. 93.1 WPOC).
The touch screen is very disappointing. It's a low-quality restive type which requires that you touch below the point you're aiming for. This makes getting to buttons at the very bottom of the screen a challenge. I tried calibrating the screen, but was sent into and endless loop of touching the cross-hairs...
The "Phone" app has all the bluetooth configuration including pairing, contacts, music, etc. it is very rudimentary. The radio frequently fails to connect to my phone on its own and needs to be forced to connect. Sometimes the play button will start the phone playing music and other times it won't. I haven't found a rhyme or reason for it yet. It doesn't support AVRCP and as such you get three buttons when streaming music over bluetooth: Previous, Play/Pause, and Next. There's no indication of which song is playing nor is there any way to browse the music on the phone from the radio.
Overall, the device is absolutely terrible. Perhaps if I could root it, I could fix a number of its annoying characteristics and it wouldn't be so bad. I was most disappointed by the poor wifi and the FM radio at boot. There is such potential here to make an awesome device... Do not waste your money on this piece of garbage no matter how tempting it may be.
Bought one also !!!
I discovered that the product seems to be sold has with another brand :
http://www.ekoore.com/web/en/product/car-hi-fi-2/elija-2/overview-6.html
The point is that they are providing an update.zip containing files and probably could be used for rooting the device. Found the link http://www.ekoore.it/download/elija/update.zip in the italian forum.
From what I understood, this is a 2.3 device ...
Confirmed mine is 2.3.3
Tried several rooting tools (Z4, GingerBreak, Visonnary+, Universal Androot ...) none of these are working.
Wasn't able to dump the rom (no ADB, used terminal with RomDump V7.2) but found that there is a physical switch inside the box. I can have a message displayed "No signal received", just by starting the device while the switch is pressed. Didn't manage to konow if this is bootloader mode or not.
Found a Quick Start guide explaining how to build kernel and so on http://wendang.baidu.com/view/6545cb13a216147917112879.html
Chip TC8900 seems to be used widely for several chinese tablets. So rooting shouldn't be as difficult as it seems. My guess is that the only way to have it rooted is to modify the update.zip above....but I don't know how to do it !!
From what I understood, the radio, BT etc ... parts are not running Android and are something completely different. The only way to switch to an android environment is to go to navigate mode.
Guys,
I'm surprised, I've had this installed in my car for a couple months now and it works great and I do use it daily and thoroughly.
I have installed Android market (couple of minutes, easy to do), have my email, contacts, everything setup, I even get auto updates for installed apps
Bluetooth pairing with both my HD2's works flawlessly and synced all contacts from both phones
The dedicated iPod interface works great with my 160Gb iPod, I have a USB hub in the glovebox with a 2.5" HDD , WiFi dongle and 3g dongle all connected in.
Navigation doesn't require a data connection, I have a several different SatNav apps installed - some online and some offline, but I stick with Waze as I like it..., Waze unfortunately starts up in portrait but that's easily sorted with a press of the home key and Waze also puts up a single warning about battery being flat, but there's no battery, so what would you expect.....
can also listen to good quality internet radio on the move
If you buy a device like this, you've gotta expect a data connection to be required for initial setup of your apps and how you want them, I've run the device without internet, through my phone and through a 3g dongle.
It works properly and reliably with my original steering wheel controls and the way it sets this up is the best I've seen on a in car device and simplicity itself.
It also boots to the last source being played, in my case normally iPod, but if the iPod etc is missing, then it will default to the radio.
The touchscreen isn't the best in the world, but is very useable, if the alignment is out then recalibrate it by holding the back button until the calibration screen appears..
Only thing I really don't like is if you burn some mp3's to a cd/dvd, they play through the dvd interface, not through the android media players.
I genuinely like the unit, it's a nice toy to have in the car and has no more issues than any other android device I've used...
J
Should say that the FM quality is really awful ! Can't even get the RDS working ...
French translation is missing sereval items (or completly false). Got the wifi + market without too much trouble. The touchscreen is usable.
I definitely love to have it rooted

Cool device. I loved it sound quality, pure, very sharp image. Very quick response. Yes, the touch screen isn't as good as we used to have on smart phones. Still works o.k. Just look at others DVD player made on Windows CE6.0 platform. They ain't better in anyway.

Could you please give me a hint how you manage to install Market on that thing?
Still working on it. Which Android version do you have? I have 2.2
You see, Android Market which built for smart phones doesn't work very well for CAR stereo devices. That Market doesn't differentiate between "good" and harmful applications, which can shut down your system forever.
Remember most of software designed for smart phones doesn't work under CA-FI platforms. Supplier said so, I 'd be happy to be wrong.....

Is that possible to use that manual for building a kernel, which could be used instead of pre-installed software? Seems interesting. Any thoughts?
Market came from the 2.3.3 build already installed on device. You probably can try the apk within the update archive http://www.ekoore.it/download/elija/update.zip . As the italian website is quite slow i extracted it. From what i understood update seems to not working on all devices.
Regarding the manual, of course I was thinking it could help for anything like root, recovery image or enabling adb. But honestly i don't have enough knowledge to do myself.
Hi Everyone, just found this thread. I have this unit as well and have been building info on the MP3car site about it, overall i'm happy with the unit although i haven't been able to do everything i want to it.
The audio quality for me is good and i can tether data off of my phone to play internet radio and navigate through waze or otherwise. I'd definately like to see some development in this area myself as there are some welcome improvements to be made. i've sideloaded the market but was never able to update it. the player will default to the last built in media that was played when it shuts down and there seems to be several volume streams built in, i've heard people haven't been able to adjust these with volume apps.
here is the MP3car thread: http://www.mp3car.com/android-tablet/150109-innotrends-ca-fi-on-order-will-review.html
Upon request, here is the update zip from the italian forum. Rename from update.zip to elira-update.zip
elija-update.html
I recently purchased and installed the Ca-Fi "Universal" 620 to replace my JVC head unit that died after 5 years. Because there isn't much information out there about this product, not even from the manufacture, I thought I'd provide the good and bad from an audiophiles perspective(...and I only coin the term audiophile because I have a full on sound system in my car, not because I'm into the lossless debates and all that BS).
The Bad (or the ugly):
-Has an individual RCA jack for subwoofer output. (left/right(white/black, red) is pretty standard. Now I have to buy a sum'er to join the channels. What if I had two subs running left and right channels of bass...I'd be up a creek and would have to buy splitter then a line driver...blah come on.
-Although there is individual subwoofer level control there is no subwoofer (low) frequency control. So, my lows that run to my subwoofer are the lows that will run to my speakers and I can’t do this cause my front stage was meant for highs and mids.
-The Graphic EQ, although having 10+ frequency to set they provide automatic roll off of nearby frequencies so, it's hard to fine tune.If you’re going to give me that many frequencies then please let me control each one of them.
-The balance controls (and all other touch screen sliders)were OK but, they sorely need increase/decrease buttons (i.e. “+” and “-“). Trying to configure a good sound stage is hard with resistive touch screen sliders.
-The P.CNTL (I assume Power Control, again no documentation) is switched off and on when you change sources (or I think actually when no sound is “sensed”) whaa? So now, because my amps have delayed starts, each time I switch a source (or Pandora even buffers a new song) the relay power drops to my amps and I have to wait for my amps to power up again. Not to mention the pops because of the high current switching on and off..man. So now I have to find an off delay relay so my amps don't turn off when I change the source. Now I could very well be the idiot on this one and need to use the P.ANT (I assume power antenna) but, the reason I didn’t is because P.ANT is solid blue wire, whereas P.CNTRL is a blue with white strip which is more industry standard for relay control.
-The boot up source is always going to the Radio. I read some other folks already discuss that here and there but, come on, really, you can't just remember the last source I had.
-Bluetooth (or lack thereof) yes, it will play your music from your phone (in my case HTC Sensation) but, that's about it. If I want to change an artist or song or whatever I have to do it from my phone. I thought it would have this to make me a safer driver so I don't have to look/mess with my phone to get new songs, guess that's what I get for assuming?
-Auto screen Dimmer doesn't work or isn't that great cause I still have to manually dim the screen at night.
-Resistive touchscreen I gotta hammer the screen to push buttons. Each push takes my attention away from the road, no bueno!
-Wifi doesn't support WEP or WPA no biggie since I'm driving and I don't think hackers do drive by hackings (or do they?). But, still sucks cause when I use it at the airport I have to turn it back on. Just a nuisance but, wifi WILL tether (provided you buy the additional USB Wifi Adapter).
-Some Apps don't recognize my wifi connection and thus will not work. Case in point, Google Maps. wft! the whole reason I got the thing was to wifi tether with my phone and control goolge maps from ca-fi. Nope can't do it. booo.
-Double DIN – not really. I don’t know what standards they followed but, my original brackets from my original Double DIN HU (head unit) didn’t work. The unit sticks out so far my radio door won’t close and there’s a gap of about .25 inches on both sides. No install kits will work with this because it’s not truly a standard Double DIN.
The Good
-The bluetooth phone capabilities work good. Contact list is ok. Of course it sucks for me because of the whole P.CNTRL thing. Yes, when I switch to Phone it turns off and on my amps…grrr.
-Mini SD card slots and a miniUSB port in front, very nice/convenient.
-System isn’t as slow as one might think for such a “slow” processor. My HTC Sensation runs circles around this thing ;p.
-Nice interface for the radio.
-You can run Apps. Although a lot of them crash (i.e. Force Close) every now and then for no apparent reason.
-Pandora works (with wifi tether) very nicely.
-Push button (knob) for mute and knob volume control.
….that’s all I’ve got for now but, so far the goods don’t out weight the bads so, I’m not happy with regards to the amount of money I spent vs. what I’m getting vs. what actually works. I’m not upset because I went into this fully knowing I was going to be a guinea pig but, if you’re a music first, apps and other **** second, kind of person like me steer clear my friends.
Not that any manufacture ever cares or even reacts to forum post, I’m going to try and communicate this to the manufacture and hopefully see if a) they’re aware of these issues and b)if they plan to release fixes/patches to help their “new adopters” out. Don’t get me wrong this company has a great product and great idea but, they’re seriously mistaken if they think they can compete with the big boys (Android Apps or no Android Apps).
What do jou Guys/girls think about this product....... http://www.chinavasion.com/2-din-ca...chable-android-23-tablet-panel-wifi-gps-dvbt/
I find it very interesting

[Q] Razr has no display - can I fix it?

A buddy sent me his Droid Razr Maxx after he dropped the phone and smashed it's glass screen. I'm trying to see what I can salvage from it. The phone does not show a display under any circumstances. It will boot up (I can hear the default boot up sounds). The navigation buttons light up. When I plug the phone into my PC the internal hard drive shows up. I can add and remove files. But so far, that's it.
I had hoped that I could use HDMI Out as an alternate way to see the screen but so far I can't make that work. I've got software that I've used on my own Razr Maxx to root it, to factory restore and to flash custom ROMs but I know that his phone was pure stock and I can't get to the settings I'd need to change to let the software "see" the phone.
What else should I be trying to get something from this phone? If I could make the phone functional again that'd be great, but even if all I could do was get the HDMI Out to work I'd use it as an Android computer on my HDTV (I've done this with my own phone and it's way better than the Android "sticks" but I don't like tying up my phone). Without any clue what's on the screen I've got no shot to do the things I'd normally do to modify the phone.

Ehm, the first thing I ask myself is: When the screen if broken, how do you want to use the phone?? Also when you get output on your TV - the touchscreen wouldn't work (I guess).
However, I would read the logs first, especially the kernel logs (dmesg, last_kmsg) via adb shell, and see if I can find something related to the screen. The stock kernel has DSS Debug ON, so you will see several entries in dmesg in case that the touch device responses to the kernel.
You can slo control most functions of the device via adb shell - i.e. enable HDMI (assuming stock (based) rom is installed), install and run apps, debugging and much more. But you need to know how to use it of course.

As to how I'd use the phone, assuming that the touch screen cannot be resurrected, if I can activate HDMI Out then I'd use the phone as an Android "media device" on my HDTV. This is the main reason I wanted the phone in the first place. I've read up on the Android "sticks" that plug into HDMI ports on TVs and then you can stream Netflix or access a browser, etc. They all need a separate power source (via USB usually) and most of them get poor reviews for wifi reliability, root-ability, etc. But since I've already used my Maxx HD in precisely this way from time to time I know that an Android phone could do this same thing, probably better. Assuming I can get the main functions of the broken phone to work I'd activate Bluetooth to connect a mini keyboard/touchpad. I've used that on my Maxx HD. That way you can control every phone function without ever having to touch the screen.
I've never been very good at adb shell unless I was simply trying to follow precise directions but I think I understand what you're saying about being able to input some commands using that approach. I'll read up.
I guess you are talking about the mini PCs with android. I'm. Not sure but I would say they have correct drivers for remote control - the razr would need that in its kernel first.... Only my thought.
But a keyboard or mouse on Bluetooth could work - assuming you can enable bt in the phone without using the screen..

T95Z Plus minor problems: sleep mode, air mouse, navigation bar, reboot, keyboard

Good morning everyone,
i hope you can help me because i don't know where else to ask.
I've bought a T95Z Plus Android 6.0 TV box, branded by Zenoplige, but there are a couple of annoying things that i don't understand and that i can't fix.
01) Sleep mode (standby or hibernation mode)
After less than 30 minutes without using it, the box goes to standby mode: the screen goes black and the device turns itself off, shutting down the front LED.
You have to press the Power button on the original IR remote controller to power it up again, in a couple of seconds.
Is there a way to disable this behaviour? Maybe an application i can install?
I just want my box to be always on.
02) Air mouse and sleep mode
The main problem with sleep mode is that you can only use the original IR remote to wake up the device. I can't use it because my box is into a little TV cabinet.
I'd want to use the Rii MX3 wireless Air Mouse (a Zenoplige branded clone) as my main and only remote: https://www.amazon.com/Rii-Multifunction-Wireless-Keyboard-3-Gsensor/dp/B01CL3ZXGO/
Is there a way to wake up the T95Z Plus using the Air Mouse?
03) Hidden navigation bar
How do i bring up the navigation bar after i hide it?
The bottom navigation bar can be hidden, using the first icon on the left. Is there a way to bring it back up, without having to reboot the T95Z?
04) Reboot or shutdown by menu
Is there a way to reboot or shutdown the T95Z by menu?
Maybe an app that i can install...
05) Change physical keyboard layout
I want to use the Rii MX3 wireless Air Mouse keyboard as my main keyboard but the layout seems to be an US QWERTY.
Can i change it?
I need an european layout for special characters.
06) Custom ROM
I've discovered that on the Freaktab forum there are some custom ROMs for the T95Z, like this Superceleron: http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player...s-t95k-pro-t95u-pro-superceleron-v1-final-rom
Do you suggest them?
I don't understand why they would be better than the stock one...
Thank you in advance!
I've managed to fix a couple of those problems by myself.
I have to thank this video, that is a little bit long and a little bit boring but covers every aspect of the configuration of the T95Z Plus Android TV box: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKcgFScCI8M

The box wasn't going to sleep or standby mode.
Simply, when i turned off my TV using the TV IR remote, the box turned itself off too.
I had to completely disable the HDMI CEC in Settings > Preferences > HDMI CEC > CEC Switch > Off.
See there: https://youtu.be/WKcgFScCI8M?t=15m8s
Now i can shutdown the TV without shutting down the T95Z box.
(I can't control the box using my TV remote but the shutdown button is the only thing that's working)
Edit: I had to change settings a little bit because with CEC Switch totally off, the box started to shutdown when i switched my TV to HDMI 1 and back.
So i did set:
- CEC switch: On
- One key play: On
- One key power off: Off
- Auto change language: On
Now it seems ok.
Note: i think you have to reboot the box to really apply those changes, because the last problem emerged after a reboot.

(I've looked at a lot of video reviews and) That's a bug and can't be fixed.
You have to reboot the box to make the navigation bar reappear.
This is fixed in some custom ROMs, like the Superceleron V1 i've already mentioned (http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player...s-t95k-pro-t95u-pro-superceleron-v1-final-rom), that has a fully working disappearing navigation bar.
05) Change physical keyboard layout
I want to use the Rii MX3 wireless Air Mouse keyboard as my main keyboard but the layout seems to be an US QWERTY.

I had to manually change the layout of my pysical keyboard.
I went to Settings > More Settings > Personal > Language & Input > and manually set the keyboard layout to "Italian", instead of "Default".
Now the special characters are working well.
I also went to Settings > Keyboard and switched from Android Keyboard to Remote Physical Keyboard.

This is still not so clear to me but i've understood a couple of things:
A) The same T95Z Plus box by different brands
The most common T95Z Plus box is the one manufactured by Sunvell but there are a lot of brands that are re-selling the same T95Z Plus Android box with their own logo: Akaso, Zenoplige, Kekilo, WeChip etc.
They're all the same device.
Only the firmware can change and the wireless chipset.
Mine is a Zenolige with firmware number T5ZP0030.
B) Flash the firmware
Everyone can flash the latest firmware: http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player...nvell-t95z-plus-tv-box-amlogic-s912-octa-core
You just have to be sure that you have the right wireless chipset for that firmware, which is not so easy because you have to open your box to discover it.
So, i decided to stay with my official firmware an wait for the OTA upgrade.
C) Custom ROMs
Take a look at the Superceleron V1 custom ROM on the Freaktab forum: http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player...s-t95k-pro-t95u-pro-superceleron-v1-final-rom
As far as i've understood, it fixes some minor bugs, like the disappearing navigation bar or the missing "reboot" option, and introduces some improvements in Kodi.
04) Reboot or shutdown by menu
Is there a way to reboot or shutdown the T95Z by menu?
Maybe an app that i can install...

I installed Quick Reboot (Root): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=phongit.quickreboot&hl=it&rdid=phongit.quickreboot
It works great because the T95Z Plus comes already rooted.

to turn TV off and leave the box on
No, volume down on my T95Z Plus remote does nothing to my TV.
By the way, i've discovered that i also could turn off the HDMI-CEC on my TV. But the settings i'm corrently using seem to work well.
In the end, this box really disappointed me and i sent it back to the seller, asking for a refund.
It has a lot of bugs.
The hardware seems good but the software is a crap.
It reboots itself randomly very often, it freezes, a couple of apps keep crashing.
The video playback is really dark in Kodi and Plex and it's a common bug of Amlogic S912 boxes.
The 5.1 audio has problem, it wasn't working (it was mute) and i had to change some parameters in Plex settings just to make it work.
Kodi crashes if you don't disable the "Amlogic codec" in the settings.
A lot of users have wireless issues, slow speed or no reception.
The keyboard has a bug with the Enter key (and some other annoying little things): http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player...nvell-t95z-plus-wrong-character-from-keyboard
The box still shutdown itself, after some time, and i can't understand the logic. It also wakes up my television, despite the settings i've made on the HDMI-CEC section.
When i turn on my TV, the box ofter reboots itself.
The Zenoplige attached remote mouse is really cheap.
I've also discovered that there are two version of the hardware, the old one and most common with a AP6330 wifi chip (like Sunvell and Akaso) and the new one and less common with LTM8830 wifi chip (like my Zenoplige).
I've discovered what chip i have looking for the wireless MAC address in Settings > Wireless > Advanced and inserting it in an OUI lookup: https://www.wireshark.org/tools/oui-lookup.html ("Shenzhen Netcom Electronics Co" is "Longsys", that is LTM8830 chip, MAC address starting in 84:5d:d7).
There are no full working custstom roms for the new LTM8830 chip.
A lot of people seem to have my same problems and they're trying to fix them using custom ROMs. I have absolutely no desire to do so.
The OTA upgrade isn't working for anyone.
You have to manually flash the firmware upgrade via recovery or via app but it's not clear what firmware you need, because of the differente wifi chip. And firmware upgrade don't fix the mentioned problems.
I'm gonna try the Probox2 Air: https://www.androidboxreviews.co.uk/probox2-air-review/
It has a more modest hardware (fair enough) but it looks much more stable and well working, according to the reviews i've found. It is a six month old device, so any problems should have been discovered so far.
The software looks really nice and clean.
The price is just a little bit higher.
I'm gonna leave here a couple of links that i hope are gonna be useful to the people that bought this box, like me:

WIRELESS CHIP AND BOX VERSION
http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player...pro-t95u-pro-superceleron-v1-final-rom/page14
A bit late now (sorry), but given that we know that these WiFi chipsets are not made by the same company, there is another way to find out without resorting to a physical check:
1) Install WiFi Analyzer app from PlayStore
2) Select Tools --> OUI Lookup
3) Enter your WiFi MAC address (get this from System Network Settings)
This will then lookup the manufacturer of the WiFi chipset, ie. AMPAK for the AP6330 or Longsys for the LTM8830.
--------------------------------------------
T5ZP0009 is a newer build but it is a franken build. Also the wifi chipset can be found by opening the box and looking at the chip. That is actually the easiest way to do it. There are other ways like using a terminal emulator or adb. You have to reboot and immediately run
Code:
dmesg | grep wifi
before the log is overwritten. Somewhere in the output of that command will tell you the wifi driver which will in turn tell you what chipset it is. broadcom is AP6330 and I'm not sure what the other chipset is.

WIRELESS DEAD
Same Problem Here, WIFI Dead, I have the LMT8830 Wifi Chip too
My Initial Firmware was T5ZP0030, I've try many many tings since yesterday and can't get it work..
Well we need to work on this issue and find a solution. I'm here to help fix this.
I read (translate) from a Russian forum that they have a Patch that fix the Wifi problem, but the link is dead.
--------------------------------------------
Before updated firmware please make sure you know exactly what t95Z Plus box you have. there is 2 version. the latest one have the 9377 wifi chip in it and if you don't flash the good firmware you will loose wifi feature.
Seach some post here you will figure easly how to find out. then you will be good to flash with a good source.
if your build is T5ZP000x then you have the normal version
if your build is more like T5ZP003x then you probably have ne newest board
You could open the box too to see what wifi chipset you have.

DARK PLAYBACK 01
http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player...pro-t95u-pro-superceleron-v1-final-rom/page14
I'm hearing that the main gripe with the AMLOGIC S912 boxes is the very dark play back on Kodi (me no exception). There is a well known fix for this, namely disabling acceleration under video in Kodi, then adjusting brightness/contrast, but this also (I believe) disables 4h playback. As my TV is 4k (ergo I'm missing out) my question is whether your firmware update resolves this, or is there a fix in the mix??? if it wasn't for this (which seems to be a very widespread issue) the S912boxes would be great, as all else (with mine at least) works smoothly.

DARK PLAYBACK 02
http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player...vell-t95z-plus-tv-box-amlogic-s912-octa-core/
Hi all,
Short version ==> The screen is very dark after upgrade.
Long version:
As soon as I upgraded 007 the screen has been very dark. The home screen is a bit dark, still navegable though, but it's very annoying when using kodi. It's dark enough to make watching movies very difficult. It's as if the gamma was set way to dark.
I've tried going through all the options and nothing changes it. Currently I've upped the brightness on my screen and played with settings there but the image is washed out.
To be more specific, changing screen resolution, deep color mode, hdr, etc. don't have any effect.
Others have the same problem (in french) but it doesn't seem to be everybody.

Has anyone had this problem here ? Any known workarounds ?

This Rom is only for Models with the LTM8800 WiFI Chip
Hi, I just received this box with LTM8800 wifi chipset and I use Superceleron V1 Final ROM, as you know wifi don't work but I will try to fix it. For me no bugs with the ROM and I use Rii MX3 wireless Air Mouse.
A good thing, I have successfully ported TWRP 3.0.2-0 to it.
You can flash it with Rashr app, boot it on Micro SD with the update app and a dummy update.zip or with the toothpick trick on boot. (rename it to recovery.img)
Download link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...ecovery-twrp-3-0-2-sunvell-t95z-plus-t3557812
A bad thing, there is a problem for restoring System partition on "Superceleron V1 Final ROM" with TWRP, if you do this you will have "Error during restore process.
extractTarFork() process ended with ERROR: 255" and you will not be able to boot. I'm sure that come from the ROM, an other user on Freaktab.com have the problem on the same ported ROM on NEXBOX A1 box: http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player...-twrp-for-amlogic-devices?p=623481#post623481
The only way to repair is to flash firmware again with USB Burning Tool. The restore feature works fine with the stock ROM.
I have a little off topic question, I'm registered on Freaktab but no way to post or reply on it, someone can help me in PM?
You see?
There's too damn work to do for a device that should only do a couple of simple tasks!
Flash a ROM, lose your wifi, install a recovery etc etc
That's not my daily driver smartphone, i do not want to spend so much time on a media player!

I found the login without problem, edited my profile to see if something wrong. I can't send private message to members too. Too bad because I can probably help on the forum and release the recovery for members who wait for it since a long time, I sent a message to the Administrator with "contact us" but no answer. I use Gmail to avoid problem with Hotmail like mentioned.
Thank you for your reply

You're right but i wanted an easy project, something that work out of the box
I've discovered another interesting thing: if you reset to factory default, on the next reboot there will be an OTA update available.
The update is from T5ZP0030 to T5ZP0031.
It's a minor bug fix, it is only 1 Mb and it fixes a wireless bug i haven't experienced: "wifi not work when change language".

WIFI - Works slow and just for a few minutes.
WIRED - Works just a time and then it disconnects.
I am running the build T95ZP0032. I think this is the newest version of the firmware, right?
Can somebody help me pls? Dont want to send it back. I've just got this box two days ago.
As far as i know there is a 0033 version at the moment....i am not sure if i am allowed to link but there is a custom ROM on Freaktab (i believe the developer is MartBios2K). He resolved some issues and also did Supercelon but you will lose led and time display in the progress.
For WiFi try not to use 5Ghz band, it's bad, try to stick to 2.4Ghz
I will try to post the link to latest firmware when i am at my pc

I will try that. Thank you for your information and effort!
Hello guys, i don't remember the details but i've already linked the custom ROM and the custom firmware in my previous posts.
I've also explained the wifi chip problem that ZeroZorro mentioned.
Take a look at those posts

Ulefone Armor 2

Hi all,
Recently got myself a Ulefone Armor 2. The device is not too bad so far. I switched to it after cracking my Power2's screen multiple times. It comes with a stupidly basic Android 7. So I just wanted to start a thread to see if anyone's got their hands on it and started hacking around. See the bookmarks below for all things customisation.
I've edited this first post multiple times to reflect the recent developments. Some people got root & Magisk working see links after my first remarks:
About the latest Software Update (aka 20180224_s21v57c2k_gq_fp or S21 GQ3037LF2 Ulefone V12 20171009-Update 20180224):

Nope, it's not the same. Something is fundamentally off with this ROM. Accessibility services get turned off automatically every time screen goes off. Half the background apps are killed every time screen stays off for a minute too. I've already reverted back to what I had before. I suggest stay away from this build.

If you've updated your phone to latest ROM use the below instructions to revert back but use https://www.needrom.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/S21_GQ3037LF2_Ulefone_V12_20171009.zip instead of the latest one:

First remarks:
-Some people and I are having problems with USB-C headphone adapter (https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help/ulefone-armor-2-t3684566/post74367962#post74367962)
-Device bluetooth volume level is separate from the headset's volume. (EDIT: fixed with recent ROM update)
-Adaptive brightness might be a tad bit aggressive in my opinion so I switched it off. (EDIT: less aggressive with recent ROM update)
-Android Pay does NOT work. It says device is not verified (which is sad, I really wanted this to work). (EDIT: works now with also recent ROM update).
-Camera button launches a camera app if you press for 5 seconds only. Useful to trigger underwater.
-SOS button needs 5 seconds push to start calling emergency contacts, but even then it causes a lot of pocket dialling.
-PTT button only works inside the Zello app. Kinda wish these buttons could be reassigned for other things (EDIT: see this reply https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74451451&postcount=78).
-Generally buttons are easy to push, i change the volume every time I put the phone in my pocket, then again i might just need to get used to having a brick with 4g.
-Speakers are not great, but it's indeed waterproof. Took it into shower and gave it a good abuse.
-Fingerprint sensor is a bit annoying at times but I believe this might be because I was sent a phone with improperly attached screen protector. (EDIT: it was the badly aligned screen protector)
-Power menu doesn't have the shortcut to the power saving mode that I like so much
-Be gentle with your USB-C cap, mine broke. It's still waterproof, but now it's pretty easy to lose the cap.
-If you wanna save some serious battery, disable Google App data backup (App backup&restore).
-Sports mode in battery settings will make the phone "snappier" probably at the expense of battery life.

Have you had any software issues and can you assign anything else other than emergency contacts to the SOS button? I have an LG X Power with a cracked screen and have been looking into this phone because the doogee s60 and bv8000 pro both show problems and I don't feel like spending 600 for a cat s60 or s41

Hi,
i got mine a week ago, and i think this phone is really great so far. Only thing i'm missing is a way to root it, i have tried everything i could find, but nothing has worked so far.
Tommy
I really wanted to like this phone, but Bluetooth is essencial to me, and I cant keep a Bluetooth audio connection constant with out disconnects and connects randomly, is very frustrating, I was expecting a better quality of the audio of the internal speaker when making calls, the holes of the back speaker one is a dummy the is no sound from it, and battery is good but not so good for the capacity, I was expecting more, and the camera is really sub par with a slow auto focus. I why didn't they make the screws of the sim compartment flush with case, was so simple.

I just tested the Bluetooth on a speaker, i had no issues with it. As for the battery, there is a lot of settings you can tweak, and turn off all of the Google draining apps. I have installed Greenify too.
Camera is not the best, but it does the job. We get what we pay for, and for that price i cannot expect to get a better phone, that probably would survive a nuclear war lol

I'm glad that you having a better experience with Bluetooth, I do hope that I can solve my problems with it.
I also just bought an Armor 2, and I also want to be able to configure the ptt and sos buttons in a better way. I hope people who know about this give us a hand. regards
I can assign emergency contacts to SOS button. Multiple ones in fact; if first person doesn't answer automatically calls the next one and so on. I was just curious to give them other functionalities, such as launching apps.

Did anyone manage to get Android Pay working? Android Pay doesn't verify the android, I was really looking forward to being able to use it...
I just got mine, love it for the price but unfortunately didn't read about android pay. I just tried and yep, no good to add payment cards. If you have a banking app that accepts card integration, it works that way, so it's just android pay/Google security.
Now, has anyone tried downloading the latest official ROM from needrom? They cite one from 10/9, I tried to install after ensuring the device is properly detected and the process fails. Something about Brom incompatible.
Not sure if anyone here has had successes with flashing MediaTek based devices, any tips?

Well, I was using a ulefone power 2 before this one. SP Flash tool version >5 works great. You just need to make sure device is fully powered off and connect usb cable. It might get into a bootloop, but if you start the flashing process while it's off it will get off of the bootloop and flash it. Hopefully at least.
I am using TSB, Santander, and nationwide. I guess none of them has card integration?
I'm searching a custom-Rom (lineageOS) for Armor 2. This Link ( rootmygalaxy[dot]net/lineage-os-15-for-ulefone-armor-2/) says "download it", but I can't found the Rom.
If I would self-compile it. Where I can find the driver for Armor 2?
With regards to android pay, I emailed ulefone support and they noted that they are working on it, need to get the keys to fix. They asked for device IMEI and will try to make the update via OTA. You can email them from their website. Looking at 3 weeks but I'm not counting on it. At least someone replied right away.

i installed the last room (nedroom) yesterday and was ok ok, i had a problem with connecting the usb (did not want to run the download process), helped "volume up" ON , the phone off, and then connect the usb to the pc and when I started process the "volume up" OFF , it started Mint 18.2 cinnamon 64-bit, SP_Flash_Tool_v5.1728_Linux - run as root , the MTKxxxx driver setting, for linux is here on XDA.
I would also be happy for recovery and root for armor 2.
with greetings of sumec.

Nice. Did you wipe everything or was it an in place update that retained your data?

I deleted everything like a new phone. If you have a backup date so when you start offering a recovery from a backup or as a new phone. Every update to rom through flashtool makes full wipe data, so it's a good root and recovery.
Is there any way of disabling that wretched camera button ? I am fed up with clicking noises from my pocket as it takes shots, and deleting them all afterwards....

I use the APP "Button Mapper" Ver: 0.54 Free
You can reconfigure PTT and SOS buttons to open your desired Apps.
You can also disable operation with the Lock-screen
My actual configuration for PTT button is:
Short press: Nothing,
Long press WhatsApp,
Double press: switch between DND, Vibrate and Outdoor sound mode
and for SOS:
Short press: Nothing,
Long press: PayPal
Double press: Shazam

Camera button requires pro version, but I can live without it :good:
I noticed today that my USB-C to headphone jack cable is not working. Anyone else had that problem?
Also, ButtonMapper works great but sometimes it causes a soft reboot...
