[Snapdragon]Is it worth buying the 3gb over the 2gb? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I'm asking if it is worth buying the 3gb ram version over the 2gb ram since it costs about 1000 EGP more for the 3gb ram and it comes without warranty.
The 2gb model costs 3400 EGP with 1 year warranty
The 3gb model costs 4300 EGP without warranty

Yes bro, go with 3 GB ram, 2 gb is not sufficient

Unequivocally yes.
You get twice the storage on top of 1 gb more ram. Easily worth the extra money. You can recover a hard bricked phone yourself (I have done it twice) but you need very steady hands and some knowledge of small electronics repair. So basically, be careful and always follow directions carefully so you don't hard brick your phone.

I have the 2gb, the ram is somehow enough but the internal storage isn't... You cannot move the apps to sd so if you install large apps go to the 3gb ram.

I have 2GB model and it is enough...it gives even better score in RAM then 3GB version...but I would like more storage but its enough for me, cuz I keep media and everything on microsd...and you are still left with about 9GB of apps you can install...

How about gaming performance? Is it quite smooth as on the 3GB version or you face any lag? That what would matter in addition to the storage since I'll root my phone and could force move the apps with these App2SD applications.

Nope, it is same performance as on 3GB...
You can install apps on microsd, but performance in this apps will be reduced... So im not using that.

So the gaming performance? It's same.
But still, I'd prefer to buy 32 gb version. You know, More games = more storage.

I have the 3GB and easily use 2gb of ram.. so... theres that...

Absolutely...huge difference.
also price difference is very less

Take that 3gb, I regret to have 2gb of RAM as I know this phone consumes alot of RAM resources than my previous phone Zenfone 5.

It depends on how you use your phone, like what apps you will install, whether you clear background apps frequently... If you have a phone with 2 GB RAM and 64-bit SoC, you can have a idea on how performance on 2 GB variant is.

Do we really have 1GB of RAM?

I have been so busy catching up with all the amazing stuff Da_G has been pumping out (thanks!) that I didn't even take a look at this until now. I am showing that we only have 733MB of avaliable RAM. That is a far cry from 1024MB.
I am seeing 733MB w/ both Android System Info and with the built-in Task Manager.
Does anyone know if we indeed have 1024MB of RAM and... if it is just assigned else where?
Yes we have 1GB every phone has RAM missing because the system is holding it.
I remember one time the OS didn't support that much not sure if that's the case now but the phone has 1GB to my knowledge and.what I've read
sent from AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note Dual Core 1.83 GHz
Just like memory... Do we really have 16gb? Its never what they say... All marketing!
Sent from my SGH-I717M
I have also read that is has 1GB everywhere, but missing 291MB seems like an awful lot.
I beleive my Atrix showed 897MB. I just seems like an awful lot 'mssing' w/ the Note.

I am with you on that! Makes me
I noticed the same, it's showing short but using the same app(system tuner pro) on my G2 it showed the correct 512mb.
It's not false marketing; it's fact. There is 1GB of RAM in the phone. I'm pretty sure the rest of the RAM is used by the GPU. My GS2 has the same thing, shows about 800MB of RAM available to apps.
What does it matter? I usually have 3-500MB of free RAM. Have you ever managed to fill the RAM with processes? Do you know anyone who has? Android clears old apps from memory even when there is enough free so I have never even come close to filling my RAM.
Graphics memory
As with any computer your phone has a gpu which needs graphics memory and because the gpu is integrated (SOC) it takes its memory off the top. This can be seen with any computer you have with integrated graphics it will section off some memory for your gpu.
As for the flash memory space many issues can take it down such as the file system, operating system, it just depends but trust me before the phone was turned on and android installed it had 16gb of memory and 1gb of ram
I'm about 100% CPU and GPU can't share ram as they do completely different tasks. They could have just added the cram and the ram to get 1GB though... But otherwise, the missing ram is from system tasks and the OS.

Do we have a reference or any proof of this?
And to the post directly above this, any computer that does not have a dedicated graphics card uses shared system memory, just like our phones. 733MB is just quite a bit away from 1024MB.
they can and do use the same memory because they are the same soc aka system on chip. all this is integrated.
So if you built a PC yourself and loaded it with 2gig RAM and booted into windows it would have 2 gig FREE memory?

I am not talking about FREE. I am talking about the system as a whole. Do we really have 1GB of RAM? Where it is being used I am not so concerned about at this point, but it may help us figure out if we do indeed have 1GB (Where is the remaing 291MB assigned).
The missing 291 is being used by android..to load the launcher Widgets and everything else in the background.

i have international version of note.its same way on this one.the missing ram is held by system tasks.as for 16gb storage memory.if you wipe all area on usb storage .u will have 16gb but not a working phone.another thing about free ram.dont use task manager to stop apps.all it does is make the phone lag.leave everything running.

You have 300-500 MB FREE ram? My note is bone stock and I'm running at 400/700 MB RAM (meaning 300 MB free). This is also when I "Clear memory" too. Something wrong with my apps?

Two dozen open apps on mine right now, and it shows 283 MB used, 302 MB free.
On my AT&T gs2 I consistantly show 830 to 850 MB free. On my note I only see a lil over 700. How can this have less ram than my gs2? I have over 80 app on my gs2 and less than half that on my note!!!

How does the Xperia S hardware compare to other phones?

Mainly processor wise. Is this the fastest phone on the market currently?
I know the Xperia S is using a 1.5ghz dual core snapdragon CPU but is it as fast as the processor used in the Galaxy S2?
Memory and most other specs seem similar to all other new phones.
Although I did see recently that in a benchmark test it was quicker than the Galaxy Nexus for most if not all applications.
Just wondering how this phone will hold up after a year.

First year is OK. Arc came where they were dual cores and other stuff and it will even stay longer because phone's usability differs from person to another.
For what this phone is, it pretty good to me and what I have seen and after ICS hits this phone the true power will come out.
Very few applications are even designed/optimized for multi-core use, let alone quad-core.
While the lack of a quad-core will turn away most measurebators who want to buy the latest, glitziest quad-core model, from a software perspective there isn't much out there that will benefit from the extra 2 cores out yet for the next 2 years or so.
I'm a bit bummed about the 14.4 mbs d/l speed and the pathetic 2.1 bluetooth profile. They could have at least done 21mbs and Bt 3.0
Is it true this phone has 2gb RAM also?
I just checked my phone memory and it has 1.78gb free.
It's different from internal storage which I have 25.5gb free.

Hmm!
There is 1 partion for internal system storage, and it is about 2Gb, other partition we known as sdcard, ~ 28 Gb.
So i dont think the phone has 2 Gb ram!

Just like with PCs, there's a difference between internal storage and RAM.
AFAIK, the Xperia S has 512 MB RAM, of which about 340MB is available for applications to use while they are running. Right now, with the optimizations I have in place, I get about 370MB free RAM, which is a HUGE boost from the 100-140 I had on the Arc.

This is incorrect Xperia S has 1gb RAM. The 2GB partition is for app installs and the ~28gb is your internal sdcard storage. The 2gb and 28gb internal storage is just partitions off of the 32gb internal flash storage.

Yes, you may be right about the 1GB - I currently see 178MB used, 453MB free, so the rest would be used by the OS.
Still a massive boost over the Arc.

No this phone does not have the fastest CPU this is only downside to Xperia S. They released an excellent phone with last year CPU. The CPU Sony has is snapdragon scorpion or S3 while most phones being released in 2012 will have a snapdragon Krait or S4. The S4 actually performs faster than a Nvidia Tegra 3 quad core CPU which the HTC One X will have. If Sony released this phone with an S4 it would have best the ultimate android device IMO. However the Xperia S is still a good device that will last you a year easily and it beats a galaxy nexus which is the premium android phone right now as far as CPU.
Phones with 1gb of ram will have 256mb for dalvik virtual machine, so only 744 mb ram availble, and ram for system cache is about 200mb, that why you see free ram is about 400 mb.

Anyone worried about the 6p only having 3gb of ram?

Personally I'm a bit worried about the phone only having 3GB of RAM. I am a power user and play games pretty often too. I constantly switch from Chrome, Line messenger, whatsapp, facebook, skype, clash of clans, and a few other games. I switch from literally all these apps pretty much every time I pickup my phone to use.
I had the S6 Edge before and the downtime all adds up because of the crappy memory management. Even my Xiao mi 3 with 2gb RAM handles multitasking literally twice as good, but its not good enough for what I do on my phone.
Does anyone out there have a similar habit to me with 3GB/4GB of RAM device that can comment? Would love to hear from the experts here that has similar usage as me!
Is 3GB enough? How much do you have spare after loading all your daily apps?
I don't worry.as Nexus 5X has only 2g ram.
Dont worry about the 3GB RAM it will be sufficient for your needs. And dont based it on SGS6 because RAM management on that phone is veerry aggressive and I actually sold my S6 for MXPE 2015 because of that issue.

I'm not necessarily worried per se but I would have liked for it to have 4GB of RAM only for future proofing.
I'm buying this phone for my dad. Unlike me, he doesn't like to change his phone for at least 2- 3 years, he's been using his Lumia for 3-4 I believe and for someone like that, I think it is worth it to get something that can last a while.
Not worried at all. I'm hesitant to get my wife the 5x because of only having 2gb though.
Too many screen redraws on my xperia devices but far less on a nexus device with 2gb ram. Less bloatware on Nexus devices meaning more free ram.
Lol you guys realize 3gb of ram is a ton...its a freaking phone! Can you remember not so long ago computers had on average 1 to 2gb ram. Now we expect our cellphones to have 4gb... Pretty crazy!

Nope 3gb is more then enough
It's plenty.
Nexus is Pure Android, So no worries at all
The oneplus two I had almost never went more than 2.4gb in usage.
3gb lpddr4 should be plenty.

that was well over ten years a go and technology moves fast
more typos!
More to the point in, 5 years:
N1 512MB LPDDR;
NS 512MB LPDDR;
GN 1GB LPDDR2;
N4 2GB LPDDR2;
N5 2GB LPDDR3;
N6 3GB LPDDR3;
N5X 2GB LPDDR3;
N6P 3GB LPDDR4.
500% increase in RAM and each new LPDDR generation doubles fetch size and transfer speed.
At first I was slightly concerned about the 6p only having 3GB. But after finding out it utilizes LPDDR4 RAM, I'm not too concerned anymore. The extra bandwidth of LPDDR4 will do wonders for the 2560 x 1440 display.
LPDDR4 Specifications: http://www.androidauthority.com/lpddr4-everything-need-know-599759/
I worry all the time.... Just 3gig.... I need like 128gig of ram.... F Google....
Can you recognize my sarcasm over here.... It's a nexus even my nexus5 can multitask better than any phone out there
people, I can play crysis 3 with 4gb on my pc at extreme.
3gb DDR4 is more than enough for a smartphone. look at the iphone (1gb)
i understand where you guys are coming from. I'm worried about 3GB because my xiao mi3 with 2GB has over 1GB available with no apps open. When I start using it, I have apps reloading left right and center because I have everything on the go inc 3 games. But the Xiao Mi3 defo handles it better than the S6 Edge.
LDDR4 doesn't mean it will keep apps open better than DDR3 right? Its just faster.

More RAM will be used up as video RAM for the QHD, yeah. To be honest, as bad as the Samsung phones are for memory, they're not unusable and work ok. When you think of all the crap the 6P won't have running in the background compared to the Sammys, I really think it'll work well.

6gb or 8gb?

Hi there. I'm about to order an pocophone for my son and wondering if there is a big difference between 6gb version and 8gb. Guess he'll mostly use it for gaming and YouTube .

I think the 6gb is the best bang for buck
$500 for another 2gb ram and extra storage ? NO !. poco can use sd card so no need to bigger build in storage and extra 2gb ram doesn't worth the extra $200
6 gb have problem... 8 gb is good
6gb is fine. Without root my phone takes up to 2.6gb of memory, phone is still smooth with the left over 3.4. With root and using greenify it only uses 2-2.2gb of memory.
If you're going to have facebook, messenger, instagram, snapchat, and all that kind of stuff running while wanting to play a high end game then maybe 8gb.
Im using havoc OS which is a heavy rom, and I play games like ARK survival and PUBG and my average ram usage is only 3.2 GB

Question Performance of the 6gb model?

There is quite big price difference between 6gb and 8gb version (€280 vs 380€) so that is quite a lot and does not seem worth it but I have heard about some MIUI performance issues with only 6gb of ram. I don't play games but I multitask a lot. How is the performance?
I think you'll be fine with 6gb. I wouldn't pay €100 extra for 8gb, maybe €20 or 30.
I have the 6gb model and it's fine. The latest update gives you 2gb memory extension on top of the 6gb so it works out at 8gb overall.
Depends. If you use a lot of apps at the same time, difference between 6 and 8 GB is quite significant. I do and after they let us extend RAM to UFS, I even feel those 3 additional GBs giving me 11 in total. Never too much RAM if you multitask a lot.

Everything indicates that this feature in xiaomi.eu simply does not exist for this phone.
At least in the nightly version, maybe in the stable version is available, currently I have no way to check this
