Ambient display - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

For quite a while, almost over all recently updated roms, i found out that ambient display feature now activates the touch screen which may lead to a turn on if pressed. I haven't encountered this issue back then, i was very happy with this feature, but now i misclick things most of the times when i take out to check the clock and put back my phone in the pocket.
It's not kind of major issue, but it's bothering, and i can't live without ambient display.
The reason i made this thread is to ask if anyone found any solution to disable the touch when im using ambient display, thanks.

[Q] Auto brightness not working

Hi!
I have the S6 edge since yesterday and I noticed that auto brightness does not work.
Testing the senosr via a sensor read out tool, it actually detects brightnes levels well (as far as I can tell).
However, if I turn on my phone, it is first super dim at first. When I expose it to a flash light, the screen turns brighter and eventually maxes out. But it does not turn back to normal brightness levels once I remove the light source. Sure I can adjust auto brightness with the slider. But it is then much brighter (with same light conditions in the room) as when I truned on the phone...
Only if I turn off auto brightness, the screen reverts to the setting I have chosen...
If I turn auto brightness on again, it is as bright as with flash light exposure...
What is going on here?
Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?

I have the same problem. Already talked with Samsung and ATT. They want me to change the phone.
Ps. It seems the problem only persists in S6 edge not in S6. But I also found that other android that run lolipop 5.01+ have the same issue too. And right now, I use the app name velis auto brightness to fix this.
I will try to change the phone by this week and update you.
Hope this help.
I have started using an app called Lux. And it has no problem adjusting the brightness. The sensor clearly works fine as it can always displays the brightness detected by the sensor. So it has to be a software problem.
I could imagine that a hard reset could fix the issue. But right now, I do not want to go to the hassle to restore everything
Let me know how the new phone works. :highfive:

The hard reset did not work, I already did it.
I will update you again once I change or test the other phones.
I went to the store, and both S6 and S6 edge in the store all have the same problem, so the exchange it may not solve the problem.
I think this problem may be a software problem or an intention from Samsung/Google.
I will try to use it in couple days. If I cannot bear this, I might return the product.
Hope they will have OTA update soon.
Got this too.
It's really anoying.
I really hope there will come an app like on older Sammy's that we can set and adjust our own brightness levels.
But I'm not expecting a fix from Samsung tho. They have proven again and again they are unable to fix their crappy software. Especialy if it's a minor bug like this.
So anyone wanna buy a rooted hardly used S6 Edge plus?

Tap Screen for Always-On Display

I've read spotty reviews on how the ambient screen display feature works (as-in it didn't reliably) so I initially disabled it. I installed Nougat DP5 last night and re-enabled it just to see if it's any better. I've found that if I double tap the screen it comes on. Now, I don't think this is like the LG version where it's detecting your finger touching the screen but more like the accelerometer detects the vibration and interprets this as the motion needed to trip the display. I've noticed that it's not very reliable, or doesn't work at all, except on the right-side more or less inline with where the time is displayed. Double-tap here and it works very time (maybe the accelerometer is under that spot). Who knows. What I do know is that I can now check the time without having to press the power button.
I've noticed this as well - I'm on dp5, and I have the double tap 6p app installed. It doesn't seem to work as well, but the ambient display seems to trigger more when I touch the device.
On stock all you need to do is tap it hard enough to slightly move the phone and ambient display will work.

Android 6.0 Adaptive Brightness Spiking and Dropping

I'm using a stock BLU R1 HD running Android 6.0 and within the last month, give or take, my phones brightness has randomly been spiking or plummeting before evening out into something legible. I also use Twilight(With pro unlock) and I have for years. I have disabled Backlight Control in the app. I have tried to go into my settings and disable Adaptive Brightness, but it will not stay disabled and turns itself back on as soon as I leave Settings. I've recently installed Lux but the problem persists. I've been googling it and all the responses I find are from 2015, give or take, and most apps regarding brightness have also not updated since around that time.
The frustrating part is that most of the time when it changes I'm not even moving and the light around me is not changing. The problem actually occurs more in normal, indoor lighting than it does in darkness or bright sunlight, and I've been careful not to cover the front camera, where I think the light sensor is, just in case I was the problem.
Does anyone know what I can do? How I can either fix Adaptive Brightness to stop randomly changing my brightness for sometimes 10 to 15 seconds before going back to where it should be, or how to disable Adaptive Brightness so it will stop turning itself back on?
I'd prefer not to root my phone, so please don't suggest it unless there really is no other option. I've ruined several phones that way in various ways and have concluded that rooting is just not for me.

Screen on notifications and lower ambient brightness

Hi guys
I tried searching everywhere for two apps and can't find anything. I think it would be really simple but since there is no app to do this I find it strange, or maybe people don't need this...
The first one is a way to turn the screen on when I receive a notification on my watch (when ambient mode is off). I have a ticwatch E and find it really annoying to not have an option for this. Does anyone have any solution?
The other is brightness control when in ambient mode. I would like to lower the brightness of the watch when it is in ambient mode. I know that there was an app to do this (swapp true brightness or something like this) but it no longer works. Does anyone know one that works?
I found it is annoying too, I own a Ticwatch S and I want to turn off the Ambient light too but it can't pop up notification on screen after turning it off , also I wanted to turn down the brightness of the Ambient light because it make burn in on my screen after 4 month didn't change watch face

"Imperfect" Ambient Display Behavior

So before upgrading to the Nord N105G I had a OnePlus 6T, which was a very reliable phone. I had it since launch, and I got very used to the behavior of the ambient display.
I didn't have any of those new-fangled features enabled like Smart Lock or Face Unlock, but I did use the fingerprint scanner but that's neither here nor there.
The display behavior I expect is that a single-tap will turn on the display (from completely off) to the black ambient display with the clock on it. Double tap to wake works just fine, but single tap does not.
Also possibly related: On the 6T I could use quick gestures to launch the flashlight etc from either a display-off state or the ambient display. However, on the Nord, quick gestures do not work on the ambient display - they can only be triggered when the display is fully off. Is anyone else experiencing these issues?
Also, I'm curious. If I use Titanium Backup (rooted) to back up the old Ambient Display app from the OP6T and then restore it to the new phone I wonder if they'd play nice. Might fiddle a bit...
No.
This isn't the same phone by a long shot and the display is one of those big changes.
Ambient display and it's features are limited to oled (and derivatives) screens.
At most, you'd be lucky if the app even registers.

I totally get what you're saying, and you seem knowledgeable, so you're likely right. However, other than the quirks I've described the Ambient display works exactly the same as it did on the OP6T.
For example, Plus Beat still works even though it hasn't been supported since shortly after the release of the 6t. It was designed for an OLED display as a replacement for a standard notification LED (Lighting up a few pixels on an OLED screen IS essentially a notification LED). Plus Beat will wake the N105G's ambient display and display the exact same notification info; obviously its lighting up the entire display to do this, but whatever foundation was originally laid to wake the ambient display doesn't seem to have changed.
So, when I find the time to flash the newest TWRP and make a backup, I will fiddle with it anyway, because contrary to your statement, I think the OP6T ambient display app will replace the N105G's app just fine. Whether the native Android settings will hook into it functionally or not is a whole different beast.
Ambient Display is useless for IPS screens. I use Glimpse Notifications, it normally turns on the screen and a bunch of settings

I don't understand why you'd prefer lighting the lock screen with Glimpse Notifications when Plus Beat still functions as a notification LED (with info) on the black background ambient display. It's not true black obviously because it's not an OLED display, but it's pretty close.
