Can I replace the bottom chin with ANY G5 bottom chin? - AT&T LG G5 Questions & Answers

the charging port is loose, and I know all my USB C cables are good. Can I replace the bottom with ANY model bottom chin, or it needs to be an H820 like mine is? I want an OEM part, not a knockoff part.

can someone please answer so I know whether to spend 60 bucks on ebay? thanks!!

The chin is a "generic" part of the G5, so yes you can use chins from other G5 models.

I tried the international version chin, and it did not work; it said on the screen "plug in a compatible module." FYI

I have purchased several chins that claim to be compatible with all versions, but they do not work. Does anybody know a way to tell the difference between different chins?
On similar note is there a way arround the issue?

If you look closely there are yellow markings that said
"NA" American Versions
"GL" Global
"SKT" "KR" Korean
"NA"*front *AT&T_XX"from the back of the module: At&t, XX is some random numbers
Also : GET THE RIGHT VERSION IF YOU WANT YOUR CELLPHONE SIGNAL TO REMAIN GOOD. Probably different variants have different antenna frames in the module soo be careful

I have LG g5 ls992 model, I changed with lg g5 h830 motherboard, now I am finding a compatable model module for this. Anyone can help me to find? . No module is not compatable with this board now. Why?

Swap Parts?

Hi,
my TP2(european version) is stuck on bootloader - tried any possible solutions found on the forum but to no avail. Since spare parts are quite cheap on ebay, I would like to know if I can swap a Sprint/Tmobile or basically a TP2 US version lower part(the whole keyboard/board...) to the upper part(LCD..etc) of my tp2?
Basically, the upper part will be from the european part and the lower will be the US one. Does anyone know if the phone will work if I do this?
Thanks.
I think swaping lcd part to the sprint usa would be easier.

You would need the board from the GSM TP2 or CDMA TP2 depending on what you are using now. These are not interchangeable. Sprint = CDMA; T-Mobile = GSM. You would possibly also loose the ability to use 3G as it is carrier dependent in the US market.
lower body (keyboard) will fit... switch out the motherboard as well in order to work with your carrier. i did this on my phone.
Will the front camera work if I just swap a tilt2/verizon/sprint/tmobile motherboard on the phone and will the slider fully fit the upper part when closed?
Have you actually found a spare board. These are not actually sold since they are the most expensive and hard to build parts. Unless someone offers you his broken one!
Also, check if you are using GSM now, if so you are probably better off using a european board.
Greetz,
Steyn
Tilt2 board works on european Screen and vice-versa but the front camera will not work and also the 640x480 MP4 recording won't be available since it seems HTC has disabled these options for the American market. I have been trying with at least 3 Tilt2 boards since my phone broke while flashing firmwares. Fortunately Tilt2 boards are available here in the U.S to swap parts.

LG cam plus, at&t (CBG-720) vs universal (CBG-700)

Wonder why att has their own specific version of cam plus (CBG-720). Hope it's just a super-special at&t logo, not something stupid (like restricting device from working on other g5 models)
http://www.lg.com/us/lg-friends/lg-CBG-720.AATTSV-cam-plus
Verizon/sprint/tmobile/us cellular share same model (CBG-700)
http://www.lg.com/us/lg-friends/lg-CBG-700.AVRZSV-cam-plus
Modules are whitelisted on phones - possible for generic module not to work on att's lg g5
(B&O module imported from Europe will not work on USA models)
Hello, found this out the hard way I have the ATT G5 H820 and bought the T-mobile version of the cam plus. It will not even power on after installing the module. Will be returning for correct version.
That makes no sense to me...Why would you, as a company, make carrier versions of hardware accessories? Is there any carrier branding on the CamPlus?

being consumer-friendly is not a trait shared by some carriers/manufacturers

when you get an AT&T version, bring it to a t-mobile store and try it on a tmobile display phone.....
my guess is that it won't work either
There are time when a carrier request the manufacturer to make parts or accessories for their branded product only by inserting a simply code only phone with the same code that can recognized it.
This is probably the case.
these request usually will cost alot for the companies like At&t to pay LG.
It's stupid. I bought the wrong one too not even knowing there were different models of the same thing. Bunk.
Updating the Post
Well, so far.. THis been a year that this was discussed. I bought a camera module for my phone without knowing about the difference between At&T and other ones... Now I got a brand new Cam module that doesn`t work in my AT&T LG G5...
Do you guys know if it is possibile to bypass that by software? Or install a different firmware on the phone that will allow me to use this module?>
Thanks in advance

Is one of my L30+ H930DS fake?

Hi I recently bought my second V30+ and noticed a few differences:
1) first phone was made in India (production date Jan 2018), recent one made in Korea (Dec 2017?!?!)
2) the size of boxes is slightly different (few millimeters here and there)
3) labels on the box are totally different: Indian one is larger and have info on IMEI, battery capacity etc where as Korean has IMEIs and radio bands
4) strange stickers on Korean box (refurbished unit?)
5) Indian phone does NOT have B&O on back cover while Korean one has it.
The correct identification of the phones will be important to me as I need to know exactly which variant I have if I am to root it.
Many thanks!

LG started selling the Korea manufactured phones in India. As long as it has the ESA firmware, it's India. Doesn't matter where it's made.
All the North American variants were manufactured in Korean, also.
Been discussed in the India H930DS thread months ago.

It actually does not matter what variant H939DS you have to root it. You can even flash EU H930 firmware onto the H930DS and root.

Sorry, I didn't mention this in the first post, by I don't need it to be India or otherwise...I bought it on Ebay UK and planning to use it in Europe, so I don't really care if it's indian or Korean. I need to find a list of available variants and see where mine fits.
Then I need to find out if my phone is not refurbished. Anybody knows what does the text on labels on the top cover of the box mean? The Indian box had the "Do not accept if seal broken" label which was intact, but the Korean does not have it (nor marks that it was removed, but what do I know).

Yes, I've come across a few V30 being sold as new on eBay, which were in fact obviously refurbished. In one instance was USS98 64GB V30 in 128GB V30+ box and even had previous owner's microSD card inside + B&O earbuds (which are not included with new North American variants, due to licensing rights; should have been LG-branded earbuds) -- but was being sold as new US998 V30+.
but can anyone please tell me what does the sticker say?

If you have any doubts about the phone I would completely ignore anything written on the box. It could be a box from anywhere that was laying around at the time.
Check as much as you can from settings and especially from fastboot getvar all.

writings on the box where more for the understanding if the phone is a new one or refurbished (as mentioned above in thread, refurbs can have some discrepancies)
Settings says it is V10-TWN-XX (Taiwan I suppose?)
I will try to google what is fastboot getvar, but this seems like a comand line command, right?

Yep, if you Google it with v30, chances you will be directed to the 'WTF!' thread
Have a look there, it's really worth running it.

[Motherboard compatibility] From H872 to H870 or even H870DSU, convert your LG G6 !

Hello there!
I just wanted to tell you an interesting information about a successful operation for my lg g6.
So few month ago I purchased a cheap lg g6 from a store here in France for my father.
Therefore it was an AT&T model (h872 or 871 or 873), many band where missing and I hated the fact that it is still locked, no rom, no root... all of what we don't like from an android phone.
So I had the idea to swap the motherboard with another model!
As those are cheap in aliexpr... it costed about 40€ for me to get an h870 motherboard, I even had the opportunity to buy the h870ds quad dac and h870dsu (g6+ 128gb rom) for 60-80€, therefore as those are poor in dev section regarding rom, I prefered to go with a traditionnal h870 european version.
Obviously, I've done A LOT of repair, that's why I figured out the compatibility between motherboard, here are the reason:
---------------------
-No different LCD like LG g2 (flashback about LCD only compatible with specific motherboard, different connector etc etc...)
That mean that the main screen is all board compatible
-Same frame for all model (when you search for LG g6 Frame, you don't have any distinction between model , else it'll be : Frame for LG G6 h873/870/... specified)
it mean that every part are in the same place: battery, speaker, type C connector etc etc....
-No difference in physical layout between different motherboard (by comparing visual shot).
The only difference is in the kind of shell that cover the cpu and gpu, which depend on the manufacturing date.
And the Wireless charging/NFC pin. either 4 pin for both, 2 for nfc only, 0 for none of those option. (doesn't matter for making the phone work, it's just an extra that detect if the nfc/wireless sticker is here)
----------------------
It's confirmed to work from any h87x to h870 mainboard replacement.
And i'm 99% sure it'll work with an h870ds, And even h870DSU (therefore, poor XDA dev thread on those model).
using the same material for all board is cost effective for LG, So I can say that, if you really want to move on to a another hardware version, take 40 bucks and a screwdriver!
...Well, I know that modding a software seems easier, but be confident, follow instruction, be gentle with part, don't put any kind of force... repairing is easy, so it is to replace a motherboard.
While you're into it, put thermal past in the cpu to improve thermal temp. And don't forget to remove the simtray
thx
This is a very cool idea. Has anyone actually tried updating a G6 to a G6+ this way? I'd be curious to hear your experience.

Bought Another V60 And It Weighs Completely Differently

Hey Guys,
I just had to buy another v60 because I had purchased an AT&T version while using T-Mobile. The phone works until July when Tmo phases outs some legacy bands. So I bought a proper T-Mobile LG V60. I went all out and bought a genuine new one and its great but I noticed it weighs A LOT LESS than my previous AT&T. Its weighs 7.6oz, which matches specs, so I'm not worried, but its my older AT&T I'm wondering about, it weighs 8.2oz! I always thought it was heavy and just attributed it to the 5000mah batt. Can anyone with an AT&T confirm that theirs is also that heavy(8.2oz)??
It's possible that the difference in weight is due to the modem (i. e. CDMA vs. GSM, if that applies). Other than that, I don't know what else could be the cause.

Ok thanks for the input. It's like a brick compared to my new phone. It even stays cooler longer because of the extra mass when charging. I've searched the forums, reddit and Google and can't find any reference to the extra weight. I guess you wouldn't notice unless you had bought two different versions of the phone though.
