Gboard crashes in settings, won't theme Substratum [Nexus 6P][7.1.1][AOSP Extended] - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Morning! I flashed AOSP to my Nexus6P yesterday and it's a fantastic ROM and has no issues. My issue here seems to be when I flashed Gapps. All Google apps flashed perfectly on my device, with the exception being Gboard. While it functions, I cannot access any of the settings; every time I click one it throws back the error "Gboard has stopped". Additionally, if I try to add a Gboard overlay in Substratum, an error pops up that the asset cannot be found, or something of that sort...tried it on all of my packs, same thing. I have a feeling my phone doesn't recognize Gboard as actually being installed. When I look for it in Play under My Apps, it isn't there.
Any advice? Thanks!

Hmm I would try uninstalling it from the settings application or disabling it, go into google play and get gboard from there.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

No option to uninstall. If I view it in Settings>Apps, it says com.android.imputmethod.latin, where I think in the playstore it has . google in the name. Maybe that's what's screwing it up? When I view it on the playstore there isn't even a button for "open".

I'm having the same issue... Tried everything, but didn't help. Can someone help?

Might I ask what you've tried? It's driving me up a wall, and there's literally nothing about this anywhere.

I got it to work, finally. I had to do factory reset, wipe everything, and then install it through AROMA, don't do stock, I don't believe it is actually gboard but rather google keyboard (on stock) which I don't even think exists anymore.

Can't open Google Now menu

Hello,
today I encountered a strange problem. When I open Google Now and press the menu button, the Google Now menu (the one with refresh, sample cards, search w/ camera, settings, etc.) immediately closes. Has this ever happened to anyone? I have already tried uninstalling and reinstalling it through Play Store, uninstalling and reinstalling with Titanium Backup and even full wiped and flashed a stock based ROM, but the problem is still there. Thanks in advance
EDIT: Happens only on the last version, gotta stick with the previous.

Same problem here on Samsung Note 2 with 4.1.2. Very frustrating. If you have an S3 or Note 2, please try to reproduce and bump this thread up.
disable "hotword detection" setting will stop the problem.
for now just have to disable the hotword while waiting for the fix from Google.

No data or wifi connection

I'll try to keep this brief.
My wife and I both have stock standard HTC Aria's running Android 2.2. A few days ago my wife complained that her battery was discharging really fast. Then a day later mine started doing the same thing.Going flat in a few hours of standby. Normally at the end of the day they would both still have 8 out or ten bars still lit. I turned off wifi, mobile and bluetooth on both phones and that seemed to fix the battery problem.
Now when I turn on wifi or 3g I cant connect at all. My wifi router shows up in settings but it constantly is scanning-connecting-disconnecting. Also cant connect to 3g.
I have tried another sim card but the problem is the same.
As I said, these phone aren't rooted in any way. Have very few apps. Basically used as a phone.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Maybe you can try a new battery. Or, if you still have warranty, give it back to service.

You can try a factory reset as a last resort

Thanks dansou but the problem is not the battery. I believe the power was draining because an app was trying , constantly, to access the wifi which will not connect.

Just did a factory reset and everything seems ok.
Just one other problem: When I log in to google play it is showing that I have 2 apps installed (airdroid and astro) These are no longer on my phone but google doesn't want to believe that. I've tried to trash them and tried installing them but nothing happens. It just says "These apps will be un/installed shortly"
Any thoughts?
Thanks

You may have already tried this, but maybe a reboot would do the trick. If rebooting doesn't help, you can use a file manager to take a look into Data>Apps or System>Apps and see if you can find their .apk files there and delete them. If you aren't rooted, you won't be able to delete them, and I'm not sure what you should do if that happens. If they aren't there, then it's probably just a graphical glitch and is showing what really isn't there.
EDIT: Sorry, I read your post wrong. Go into the app details of Google Play Store and select both clear data and clear cache, and that should solve the problem. If not, try rebooting.

Oh my bad, I wasn't really clear about that. It's actually in your phone settings, not the settings in the Play Store.
So you open up Play Store in 'Manage Applications' as if you were trying to uninstall it. In that menu, you'll see options like Force Stop/Disable. Scroll down, and you'll see the 'Clear data' and 'Clear cache' options, and there ya go. I hope I explained it well.

If it's showing that only on the website, you shouldn't have to worry about it... It does that
It's probably showing them for the "old" one, before you did a factory reset

Like WinSuk said, I don't see the problem if it's only showing it on the website. It could be showing what's installed on your wife's Aria if you two are sharing an account.

Sorry, I'm getting a bit confused here.
The apps that I mentioned; Airdroid, Astro, google play etc are showing as being installed on the google play web site. These apps are no longer on my phone after I did the factory reset. Therefore I have no way to reinstall the apps as google play is telling me they are already installed.
Is there another way to do this? Can I dl the apk files from somewhere else and install them manually?
Thanks again for all your help

You don't have the Play Store installed on your phone? If that's the case, you need to search up on google to find the apk file for it. Once you do that, you should be able to install the other apps you've mentioned.
Sorry if I misunderstood you again. I'm getting pretty confused here also.

Update:
I managed to install airdroid and Astro through Android Market app (was that the precursor to play store?)
Now when I log in to google play it shows those two apps as installed. Everything else is showing in "other apps in my library" waiting to be installed. I think I'll leave it at that. My airdroid is working again :good:
Thanks for every ones help.

It'll eventually update automatically on your phone and change back to the Play Store

How to fix Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped

Hi everyone, Just wanted to post this as I have found it to be useful for me.
I am sure some of you have seen this issue before or are experiencing it now. I have included a link to the youtube video.
what is the issue?
Recently after downloading the newest play store I started seeing an error message about unfortunately the process gapps has stopped working .
this was happening whenever i tried to add an account and when opening some of my apps including the browser and play store
.
it was annoying me but it would go away and the app would immediately open for me after so it was not that big of a problem.
I tried to solve the problem first by uninstalling updates to the play store in application manager
,
then by flashing roms and factory resetting
, however this did not help at all.
l
. finally last night at work my phone had three random reboots . my phone has never done that before
. I searched on google and found a very easy fix and once again my phone is like new
.
the fix.
settings/ application manager/scroll to left until you reach the all applications screen/ touch menu screen left of the home button/ reset app preferences.
here is the youtube link
. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zt_alKha_-s
it sometimes work, even uninstalling the updates and reinstalling works but is random
Thanks
What does kill us, it hurts
I am having this problem right now. Except not only am I getting that error I am getting mutlple services that have stopped as well as background apps.
I have tried everything except a factory re-boot. I haven been on the phone with Verizon and Motorola Level 2 tech support and no one could help me.
I'm at my wits end. I don't want to reset the phone because i have a lot of pics that are not backed up.
Additionally it seems that a phone reset is not a guarantee...
This worked for me. Thank you!
Thanks

.Cheers Bloke that worked a treat.
Sadly not working on my note 2 syncing google account.
Whilst trying to sync the two calendars from the note (4.1.2) to my Nexus 10 (4.4). Nexus is sending out and note is receiving (also to pc) but nothing is being released from the note
As well as above I have seen a "fix" being disable - re enable download manager in apps. Also a no go.
I've been seeing this pop up on odd occasions during the last month or so but not caused an issue with the activity at that time.
Cheers in advance

google play download issue
Hi everyone,
I had the same issue like you. I have Samsung galaxy note 2. But I tried your advice about reseting app preferences and it worked. But I have another problem. The Google Play app works but I can't download any apps. It looks like the app is downloading but it's not. Have you any ideas about this problem? Thank you! Diana.

None of these worked for me. I tried cleaning the cache etc as mentioned and removing the google account but nothing. I've restarted, powered down and pulled the battery but nothing has changed, I still get the gapps message along with play store, gmail, hangouts etc.
I'm running stock 4.3 on a rooted I9305 S3. Everything was fine until I tried a bit of a cleanup with Android Tuner Pro's quick optimization and clean p. After the restart the pop ups came and then it had a progress bar saying - linking to sd - which sat at 0% and never moved. I'd selected optimize apps loading, database access, fix permissions, clean memory and updated system apps, trim all partitions and clear caches.
Any suggestions? I had massive problems trying to install 4.3 when my titanium backup messed up some settings and I had to do another full factory wipe and manually install ALL my apps and settings, taking around 4-6 hours!
I wish I'd stuck to System Tuner Pro and hadn't touched the new version

try this step:
On your Note, goto Settings. Choose Applications. Tap on the All Tab at the top. Locate and tap on the Play Store app. Tap on the Clear Data button. Tap on the OK button to confirm. Tap Clear Cache too
Then if you can see com.google.process.gapps in there, tap it and Clear Data and Cache too. Ignore it if you can't find this process there
Then find and tap the Google Services Framework and Clear Data and Clear Cache. Then restart your Note. Do the same for Browser, Download Manager etc again
Thanks, it worked for me
Thanks a lot dear, after too many trials finally your advice worked. you saved my day.
error message "process com.google.process.gapps, has stopped"
I have tried several methods from different forums/blogs, but all failed to remove this message, which appears repeatedly on my device Galaxy Tab 10.1 (GT-P7500) whenever I start browsing on the native browser or the Chrome & not otherwise. There are so many people crying on almost all android related forums for help but nobody from Google/Android owners or even the device manufacturers are speaking up to console these crying people who bought these devices due android fame. If these attitudes continue, I think the Android will vanish as the Symbian in the past. For myself, having found no solution, I have decided to live with it until the device gets a System Update next!
However, if anybody has found a solution, he may plz tell me, too!

Unfortunately Google Play Services has stopped, appears to be location related

I keep getting this error and it seems to only happen when accessing location. I have a Tasker rule to have location turned off and it only turns on for certain apps that require it (Maps, Google Now, Espn apps, etc), every time I open those apps and the rule gets executed this error pops up. I've searched this problem and tried every suggestion, wipe cache/data, uninstall updates, factory reset, reset app defaults, install previous version, nothing seems to work. Version 5.2 seems to not give me the error, but certain Google apps won't function without the updated version, and even if I live without them, Play Services just updates itself (despite turning Auto-Updates off and detaching it from the Market in TB). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, it's an irritating error to frequently receive.
Same problem
I have this exact problem and like the OP have tried everything. Nothing seems to work. Any help would be much appreciated!

I finally figured out what was causing it, I had a Location Consent Disabler mod that was causing it. The new version of Play Services lets you select not to show the pop up again making the mod obsolete. If you have that mod, uninstall and it should go away

Are you running Xposed..., if you are disable it and reboot a couple times, could be from that. Just happens sometimes. If you're getting it that one time and nothing bad is actually happening don't worry.
Thanks. No, not running xposed. I may not worry about it if it's not affecting anything. Just see it on reboots.

Has anyone been able to get any other Android Lollipop apk files working? I cannot get gmail, google music, calendar, fitness, etc. to work on a rooted G3.
gmail, music, and others get the error message "application not installed because an app with the same name with a conflicting signature is already installed"
calendar just won't install at all, giving the error "not installed"
fitness installs but upon opening requires an update through the play store, but the play store is unable to find the app
I am running the latest version of google play services (6.1.83), on jasmine ROM with xposed installed and the "show all apps in play store" 240 dpi mod enabled as well as the G3 tweaksbox.
I could try going into the system/app folder and removing the gmail and music apks so I can update them, but I haven't tried it yet. mostly I'm concerned about the fitness app.
EDIT: I also tried the keyboard, and that installed okay, but any time I wanted to type any text the cursor would show up but no keyboard would show.
Thanks!

You could try removing the stock ones with TiBu then wiping cache and dalvic then try to install again.
If you back them up first using TiBu you'll be fine in case that doesn't pan out.

I tried this. Google music and lollipop keyboard are working. Fitness.apk gives the same error as before, Gmail quits on boot (repeatedly) and if renamed to Gmail2.apk, downloads an "update" from the play store that reverts it back to the 4.4 version (previously the farthest I could get was "welcome to the new gmail" and you can watch a video about the changes, but once you say "Ok, got it", it force closes. Clearing the gmail data prevents the force closing at boot, but will not allow the app to get past the "ok, got it" screen.

I think so - I am using play store 5.0.32, play services 6.1.83. both install just fine on 4.4.2. I also tried everything with the previous 4.9.X versions of both, but that wasn't very productive.
I tried removing the gmail apk and all instances of com.google.android.gm, which I could find in /system/app, /data/app, and /data/data, then installing the gmail 5.0 apk or placing it in /system/app and setting permissions to rw-r--r--. Both of these result in a "disabled" gmail, which can be "enabled" in the play store. Enabling results in multiple force closes and the app cannot be opened. I wiped the app data and tried again to no avail. I then resorted to deleting gmail 5.0 through TiBu, and then tried installing directly from the play store. This results in a "version not supported" error during download, and the installation can not be accomplished. At this point I tried reverting to gmail 4.9, but it can't be installed, giving the "application not installed" error after going through the installation process.
Fitness.apk still opens and requires an update through the play store which cannot be found.
I wiped everything and reinstalled JasmineROM this morning to get a working gmail. I will update gms and play store to 5.0 versions soon.
The keyboard Force closes in landscape.

Does the messenger app work for you? It force closes when i try to start a new message as well as when i try and attach an image to an existing conversation.

Yea the messenger seems to not be working for those on Stock ROMs, maybe someone has figured out how to use on stock if it's possible but I'm not sure myself, as I've said before I'm not on stock so it's working fine for me.
Hopefully once bump comes out and AOSP ROMs are available for the masses, messenger can then be enjoyed by more people.
