Nova and second screen - LG V20 Themes, Apps, and Mods

Hi there,
Just wanted to share a small trickery with everyone. Nova launcher can hide your statusbar on desktop, so if you go now to the second screen options click more and then "show time while content is shown" you are going to have a full screen desktop thanks to nova and the second screen to act as your statusbar (kind of). It not a full fledged statusbar since it only represents time wifi ,cell signal and battery but it works also gives you notifications etc..
:good:

The problem is that with this launcher you lose like 80% of functions that you had on stock UI. If you clear home default and switch back and forth between launchers a few times you will see the second screen become more or less a status bar

What do you mean by this? I use Nova and my second screen still appears to have all of the stock functionality. What do you figure you're losing with Nova vs. LG Home?

When I switched from LG home to Nova the recent apps automatically changed to clock and signal bars. Recent apps did not show again until I switched back

Weird. I went to Nova on day one and haven't looked back. I still have all the functionality of the second screen, including recent apps. Perhaps you experienced a bug in Nova?

What they are describing, is the very feature this thread was made to discuss. If you enable "hide status bar" in Nova, it replaces the secondary screen shortcuts, with the battery / signal / notification icons.

Ah, I got it. Yeah, that's definitely a thing. That said, it still renders the assertion I originally replied to, "The problem is that with this launcher you lose like 80% of functions that you had on stock UI," as false.

Yep. Nova works very well in place of stock. Just keep the 'hide the status bar on homescreen' option disabled - and you can use the second display just as you would on the stock LG Home launcher.

Iv had this for a little while and its alright. added the notification pull down button to my nav bar / thumb contols.
(Nova launcher, pixel n icons, [email protected], System ui tuner to keep 2nd screen in immersive mode)(android wear icons is because im debugging my watch, normally icons mid+ show)
Note: double tap to lock the on the status bar does not work on the home screen anymore

Just to add, you can also assign a gesture in Nova to show/hide the status bar, which in turn affects the second screen. Now you can have control over the second screen on the fly, at your leisure.

I've hidden the status bar in nova, but can still see the second screen , as this is now my notification area . If you want to see the status bar , battery , bars etc then i double tap on the home screen . Yes it does make the screen a bit bigger , but you cant " bleed" into the second screen , it would be good if you could use both screens as one .

I've tried that before, but it doesn't help. Did it again now, and the result: my icons are covered by the dock.
It seems to me that the launcher is living it's own life.
Edit: tried the 5 icons version just to test the launcher, and the dock is still the same, the shelf style or something.
At least my icons are not covered anylonger, but this is starting to annoy me.

Are you sure your home button is bound to ADW? Could you possible be editing ADW settings, but redirecting yourself back to the stock launcher?
Or...it's the Hidden dockbar. Go to UI Settings > Hidden Dockbar and make sure "Use as Primary" and "Dockbar" are unchecked.
I tried using ADW but it would not allow me to place my icons close to the edge like the above screen shot, when i drag a widget or icon to the left or right hand side of the screen it snaps back about 1/2 in like when using the stock launcher. is there a setting i am missing?

That will be fixed if you disable the main dockbar as well as stretch icons/widgets.
Diabling Main dockbar : ADW Settings > UI Settings > Main Dock > Main Dock Style > "None (Expand Desktop)"
Stretch Widgets : ADW Settings > UI Settings > Screen Preferences > Advanced Settings > "Auto Stretch"

I can definitely place icons close to the bottom and close to the top. There is that to menu bar which doesn't really go away. You can hide it but everytime you rotate the screen it will come back.

The best we can do it place a shortcut on the home screen to hide it with one touch.

Yea that is what I have. It would great if you could put that shortcut into the app drawer and then i can add it to circle launcher. But oh well.. Its not a big deal for me.
Just put the shortcut in the hidden dockbar. Whenever you want to hide the action bar, unhide dockbar and tap the icon.

That to me is worse than just having it on the desktop. I hate that hidden dockbar. I'm good with it just being there.
The reason I have it in the hidden dockbar is so it's available no matter what screen I am on without needing a shortcut on every screen. The hidden dockbar is like my "tools" section. Hidden away when I don't need it and a quick swipe up when I do.

[Docks - Icons - Wallpapers] Mortem's thread

Hey everyone.
I decided to make this thread so I don't keep cluttering up the post your screen thread with my stuff.
This is just a fun thread for you guys that might be interested in icons, docks and wallpapers that I make.
Ask around and you'll find I am a pretty flexible and easy going guy. I do requests if they are in the scope of my abilities, just don't always expect something same day or even same week.
I don't do nudity or suggestive type wallpapers so don't ask.
Please do not post other people's wallpapers, docks or icons on this thread.
I would like to keep this area as a place to house my work.
I usually post all my wallpapers to my website but I think occasionally I will only post here.
The main reason for this thread is for the little things, docks, icons, circle launcher icons and any other graphic you guys may want.
All my work is free....
But as always if you like my work and want to buy me a beer, the donate button is to your left near my avatar.
If a beer is too much I always except thanks so hit the thanks button frequently.
you can find my current website at

[MOD][GUIDE] Make The Hottest Android HomeScreens Yourself

With its subdued simplicity, Naturally Android won over plenty of fans -- and won its designer a nice new Nexus 7 tablet. So how's it made?
Creator Joe Rochinski said his main goal was to create something that was both simple and visually striking.
"I've never liked the look of home screens packed full of widgets and mismatched icons," Rochinski says. "There's an app drawer to house all your app shortcuts, so let's leave them in there!"
Rochinski found his background on DeviantArt.com. He then used an app called Wallpaper Wizardii to scale and position it just the way he wanted.
Nova Launcher Prime, a popular custom Android launcher, allowed Rochinski to eliminate extra home screen panels and also remove the separator line between the Favorites Tray and the rest of the screen. Nova also made it easy for him to swap out the icons to his own custom creations.
Speaking of those icons, Rochinski relied on an app called Simple Text to build them along with his custom app drawer button. He used Minimalistic Text, meanwhile, to make the clock and weather widgets.
"You don't need to be an expert programmer to get a similar look on your own phone," Rochinski says. "I hope this theme will inspire others to try their hand at their own home screen and make some more beautiful designs where less is more."

How to make The Explorer home screen
Greg Wright's Explorer home screen got lots of attention, and for good reason. Wright's creation is actually even cooler than you might realize, as many of the visual elements are interactive: Tapping the compass opens Google Now; tapping the caliper toggles the notification bar; tapping the lion at the bottom of the map opens a folder of frequent apps; and tapping the date at the top opens the system clock. The paper scroll at the bottom-left, meanwhile, shows a dynamic representation of the phone's current battery level.
Like the last setup, Wright's home screen uses Nova Launcher Prime to accomplish some of its magic. The wallpaper comes from Wallbase.cc; the widgets for the date, time, and battery level were all made using the Ultimate Custom Widget (UCCW) application along with a font called FoglihtenNo06 (Google it and you'll find several sites offering free downloads.
As for the interactive functions, Wright used Nova Launcher to create shortcuts on the spots he wanted and then set their icons to be blank images. That makes it seem like you're tapping the actual map instead of a regular app shortcut.

How to make the Organizus Optimus home screen
Like Amirul Farhan's eye-catching creation? You aren't alone.
Farhan built the setup using Apex Launcher, an alternative to Nova with many similar features (either app could really work for any of these configurations). Within the launcher's settings, he set the home screen grid to 9x5 and four panels.
He then created a custom set of wallpapers, one for each panel. He uses an app called MultiPicture Live Wallpaper in order to have each panel display a different background.
That's where things get a little more complicated. I'll let Farhan explain it:
Start on the first homescreen. Using Apex action, place an app drawer shortcut on the square icon (at picture's bottom right corner).
Next, using Apex action as well, place the shortcut to screen 2, screen 3, and screen 4 on the star icon, ribbon icon, and the conversation bubble icon, respectively. Repeat this step on screen 2, screen 3, and screen 4.
This is the tricky part: hiding the icon we placed earlier to make it blend with the wallpaper. You need a blank icon, easily downloadable from the Internet. Note that although you cannot see this icon in gallery, it's there. Long-press the shortcuts placed earlier, and replace the icons with the blank icon.
Got all that? Good. From there, Farhan used a series of widgets and icons to accomplish his effects. They include:
• Minimalistic Text Widget with a font called Billabong for the titles at the top of each panel.
• Eye in Sky Weather for the forecast on the "Weather and Status" screen and Widgetsoid for the power bar at the bottom of that panel.
• Icons from Minimal MIUI Go Apex Theme for the shortcuts to the apps on the "Leisure" screen and Minimal Reader for the headlines at the bottom of that panel.
• Brilliant Quotes for the rotating quotes at the bottom of the "Work and Productivity" panel.
• Android Pro Widgets for the social widgets on the "Social Circle" panel.

How to make the Robot Control home screen
Tim Alvarez's Robot Control configuration was the most popular of all the designs featured in this month's challenge. To make it, Alvarez says he started with a background from DeviantArt.com, which he resized and cropped down in Photoshop to fit his device's screen. He also modified the image to add in some elements and erased parts of it to make room for active widgets.
The Calendar, Media, Apps, and Files icons are all built into the wallpaper; Alvarez used transparent icons to add invisible shortcuts on top of those areas.
He used Ultimate Custom Widget (UCCW) to create the clock/date widget, the battery percentage and ring widget, and the bottom widget with the weather, missed calls, missed texts, and current location.
For the music player, Alvarez used a version of Phantom Music Control with his own custom icon modifications. He also made his own custom icons for the dock at the bottom of the screen.
Oh yeah -- and there are some custom animations and sound effects involved, too. You can see 'em in action on Alvarez's YouTube channel.
Lucky for you, Mr. A is willing to share his efforts. You can download a zip file with all the aforementioned elements on Dropbox.

How to make the Serenity Now home screen
Ben LeFevre says his Serenity Now setup is "deceptively simple."
The clock uses the ever-popular Ultimate Custom Widget (UCCW) app along with a custom skin. The clock has some powerful hidden functionality, too. As LeFevre explains:
It consists of two widgets -- the center one and the left one. An invisible shortcut is placed over the arrows on each widget that swaps to the other home screen. Using Apex Launcher's Accordion transition effect and turning wallpaper scrolling off, this makes the drawer look like it's expanding/closing.
The Search and Play Store icons on the left UCCW widget are UCCW hotspots (shortcuts built into UCCW). The down arrow that brings up further apps is just an image, with a Circle Launcher widget over the top.
You can find the wallpaper here and the icons here and here.

dude you have to be CREATIVE stick on minimalistic and go for every option. it tooks 4 hour to make a homescreen like this.
here is a little suggestion to make widget's like this.
1. choose custom layout always in predefined layout
2. in custom layout make the layout pattern to match the widget then choose style for each of them (normal/accented/non-accented)
3. now in text style window; select size, color, font of each style
4. time to preview the widget
some screenshot to help you

wishlist

why don't we put our wishlist here? I'll start with mine.
selectable weather source
re-arrangable app drawer grid. (currently fixed at 4x6, i want 5x6 or 5x7 for big screen full HD phones)
my wish list
selectable news app,landscape mode.
Missed It integration
Lockscreen
The status bar setting is getting disabled everytime when I change the theme. Please fix that too.
Suggestive Wishes
Editable App Preferences
Settings > Themer > App Preferences allows us to reset previously preferred app. Yet, it does not allow us to pick the app for specific themer action. For instance, I would like THEMER to open (play_google_com/store/apps/details?id=com.callapp.contacts) "Caller ID Dialer by CallApp" when I tap "phone" icons or "missed calls" labels. Everytime I pick a theme, I have to manually edit the widget's hotspot. If the theme has an icon shortcut placed instead of a widget hotspot, I cannot edit it. Of course I can change the icon with the that of the my desired app's Yet this action kills the unified aesthetic of the theme.
Folders in App Drawer
No matter what, this is a must when it comes to customization. That's one of the reasons why Nova and Apex are so popular among people who like to customize their gadgets.
Having access to theme specific icons and images within themer
I know that even if these are free themes, their designers should have their copyrights protected. I do not want to extract those images. Yet, if I was able to use them within the THEMER app, I could create new folders when I accidentally erased one. Since there is no option to roll back any removal action, I have to reapply the theme. And everytime I reapply a theme, any changes I have made to the folder content is gone. That has made me a little annoyed as it happened over a few hours I've been playing around with the app.
Hope to hear developers voice soon.
Cheers...
I'll Add ICS support to the wishlist
Tablet Support
I wish Themer for Tablet support.
I mean I want to use with Tablet UI.
This may be awesome I think.

We're currently using Open Map for weather, which isn't reliable. We will soon switch to something better, but won't let the user pick for now. Most users just want weather to work. And we'll make that happen.
We are also going to be doing more with the app drawer in the future .

YES! These are both an issue for me...
The weather is wrong by up to 8 degrees F sometimes.
But my biggest gripe is using the App Drawer the way it is so slow moving and not efficient at all. Please allow Vertical Scroll Alphabetical as one screen(NOVA) and allow Folders in the Favorites Section! That would still allow the Homescreens to stay clean and then access stuff quickly from a Favorites Icon on Homescreen!
I abandoned it
What's with the mandatory FaceSpace or Google+ login for the app to run?
Awesome homescreens, horrible app drawer. Please add a "Vertical Continuous" option as well as grid resizing, basically mirror the app drawer options of the most common launchers (Apex/Nova/etc).

Hi DJ_SpaRky,
Our design team is currently working very hard to iron out all the bugs as well as add in more features. So there are definitely plans of upgrading the app drawer in the future!

Thank you for the reply and I do understand that this is still "beta". There will be fixes and upgrades to come. I was just voicing my opinion as to my concerns at the moment. So far it is wonderful to see it made so simple to have nice looking homescreens.
Keep up the good work.
More options

More rearrange ability because you can't edit the size of widget or add more icons to a page.
selectable weather source
I like the idea of this, it's just. I was able to customize the theme I'm using, took some figuring out. But was able to add short cuts. It's a bit bothersome and not as simple as I would have hoped, I just can't imagine people even more novice than I am getting too into customizing the themes. Having the option to go back to the stock app drawer (tw) would be nice as I have all my apps organized. There's a lot of potential here just needs some careful thought. Either way kudos and thanks!
Here's what I added for shortcuts in case anyone wants to see.

Looks like after a crash it lost my widget set up and I'm not going to redo it as that was a lot of work. Going back to tw for a bit.

Pop-up folder
I'd like it if the favorites came up as a pop-up folder. I really only have a few and while I could make a folder, many themes already have a link to the favorites.
Thanks. I'm thoroughly enjoying themer and have been showing my friends.
lock screen theeming.
it would be great if lock screen can be made same as home screen making it more prominent for a user.
I see previous launcher's wallpaper background lock screen.

Second Screen App icons

Having some trouble changing the icons in the second screen. I pulled the png files from an icon pack and am able to change it just fine on the LG home screen launcher, but when I drag them up to the second screen they turn into a white box. The weird thing is that the simple "g" icon I picked for Google retains the icon but when I do the other ones I picked they turn into that white box. Also the LG launcher doesn't like that icon pack either.

Not sure why you're having trouble. I moved an app that I have a custom icon for to the second screen, and that icon works just fine. It isn't one of the default custom icons either.

I'm using the stock LG launcher. It lets you change any app's icon to an image you can select from the gallery. And I've already tried throwing some apps I've done that with up to the second screen and had no problems with it.
i love lg now i had a note and alot of the styling and things i had to get a custom rom for it does straight out of box without root. i found this out after rooting and was like well now i have to find something i needed root to do to make haveing root necessary.

Yeah the stock launcher is pretty robust with the icons but not as much as Nova, which is my current launcher. I forgot to ask earlier, where did you get the icons you are using? Are they the ones from the LG theme store? If that's the case then I think my second screen icons are changing with those. But the way I had to do it for icon packs not supported by the LG was extract the .png files from the 3K minimal apk and choose to change the icon using the .png picture from the gallery, which isn't really working. The "g" icon for Google works but like I said in the OP the rest turn into white squares.

I'm not using an icon pack, I just used my own .png image. For example: I use Twidere as my Twitter client, so I grabbed the official Twitter icon from the Play Store on my desktop and just sent the .png over to my phone. So now the Twidere shortcut looks like the regular Twitter client.

Not sure what was wrong with the pngs I was using I converted to jpg and added a black background since jpgs can't do transparency and all icons are good now. Looks awesome
In case anyone was still having trouble with the second screen Icons, here is the method i have been using to successfully change them rather quick and painless.
Download "ThemeX" from Google playstore
Download desired icon pack(s)
Open ThemeX and select icon pack, then select some or all Icons to be downloaded to gallery.
Click save icon in top right hand corner
Go back to Homescreen (LG Launcher)
Tap and hold app in which icon you would like to change
Select icon from gallery and save.
Drag new app icon to second screen.
Congratulations... Second screen Icons successfully changed.
Picture of my current second screen Icons...

Yes, only works with stock launcher. But once you get the icons on the second screen, you can go back to nova and the icon change persists.
really cool, download for try.
You can create a Tasker APK through Tasker App Factory with a trigger to run your desired app when you select it, you can choose your app icon in Tasker and install the apk. Then you can add it to Second Screen. This method works on Nova Launcher for sure... I haven't listed step by step instructions in this post but if you are interested I can point you in the right direction. @Big Boy Larouxlaroux
