SGP712 - How to find device ID / Identification number ? - Xperia Z4 Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Simple question - how/where do I find my device ID?
I have the WiFi version - SGP712 so there is no IMEI ... and on the Sony support website it asks for an ID to register.
It offers the helpful advice:
HOW TO FIND THE DEVICE ID OR IMEI NUMBER
For Wi-Fi tablets, search for “Identification number” in the relevant User guide and follow the instructions.
So from their site I downloaded the User Guide - although the user guide I got was for the LTE SGP771 ... and searching for "identification number" just tells me how to get the IMEI ... which I can't as I have the WiFi version.
Any ideas/help?

Hi,
Try an app called "Xperia Service Menu"

or read my guide (link below)

Hi, did either of those suggestions work for you? I'm trying to unlock my Z4 Tablet (WiFi) too, but keep hitting dead ends. Sony's developer site is down now. And I'm not exactly sure what I'm supposed to do with an imei, which I can't find for my device.

Hey, I don't know if you still frequent these forums, but I'm trying to follow the steps you've mentioned. I'm running into a few problems. I, too, have the wifi Z4 with a blank space under IMEI. Also, the sony's developer site is looking kind of funky now and won't load properly.
So, am I just screwed, now? I can't find a direct way to unlock the bootloader and install something like lineage os. If you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

No - you just have to find the ID. Either in the service menu or under device info.
My Z4 wifi battery is dead - so I can not tell you where to look exactly. Sorry.
But I have found it in 2015 and you will find it in 2022 too.

Hi, and thanks so much for even replying.
Maybe it had someone to do with me testing Google's VPN, but that site refused to load properly for me, all yesterday. Laptop or phone. But yeah, I see it, now.
Unfortunately, I downloaded a phone app to dial the code in and a different app, mentioned earlier here, which also got me to service menu. Got as far as selecting the IMEI, but the popup just said "IMEI" and nothing else.
I pulled the sim tray and there's a piece of plastic you can pull out, but it's got nothing to do with the IMEI.
Feels like I'm THIS close, lol

You know what? I think my sim tray actually stuck. I can insert and remove the microsd card just fine. The only other thing that comes out is a small clear plastic/ laminated thing with "model sgp712", a barcode, then some other numbers. None of which say IMEI before it. Otherwise, the actual tray didn't come out. There's a tiny button I can push, but that turns the whole thing off.

I Unbricked my Nook using AdamOutlers Post and when I when't to setup menu and I entered where you Sign In to BN and when I signed in it said "Error we're having trouble seting up your nook. Please Shutdown the Device and try Again" At the bottom theres a Error number and the Number is D-AD1202 The Device is also running 1.4.0 Software. Thanks in Advance.
Try updating, you might have been on a higher firmware when you registered, and that might be the problem (I know its far fetched)
Or try setting up with a new.account.
Also check if your account is active by logging in.on a PC.
Hit Thanks if I helped you!
As I understand it this particular method wipes the serial number that is needed for registration. That's why this method should be used with extreme caution after trying "everything" else without success.
Anyway, it's done now, and if I'm right about the serial niumber there are a couple of topics about serial number retrieval as well. Try the search function and Google.

Great news! One thing to remember with BN devices is that it has to be unregistered by a use before it can be registered to someone else. A completey wipe/reste doesn't deregister it from BN database.

(GUIDE) How to download official firmware from LG for your phone

First of all this is not my work but I've found a lot of info on the net so I decided to compile this information for you guys here in case you wanted to get the firmware actually made for your specific phone instead of copying a generic kdz file. I have tried this a few times in the past couple of months and it has worked for me.
REMEMBER: PLEAS TRY THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK AND DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE FLASHING ANY FIRMWARE
1. Find your LG phone model and serial number. [You will have to take out the battery to find the serial number/]
2. TYPE in the following URL or COPY AND PASTE (do not click on link it will not work) it in the URL Line: http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/svc/popup/model_check.jsp?model=[model]&esn=[serial_number]
Now replace the [MODEL] and the [SERIAL NUMBER] with your phones model and serial number.
3. Hit enter to load the page. Now the page should be blank less a string. In order to view the information you have to view the page source code:
a) On Firefox: Tools --->Web Developer --->Page Source (Cntrl + U or Cmd + U)
b) On Safari: Right click blank area anywhere on the page, select View Source in the menu.
c) On Internet Explorer: View --->Source
d) On Chrome: Click Customize and Control at the right of URL Line --->Tools --->View Source
4. Find the number inside <ESN></ESN> line.
5. Type in the following address in the URL Line: http://csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/csmg/b2c/client/auth_model_check2.jsp?esn=[esn_number]
6. Replace the [esn_number] with the number you got from the first source code.
7. Load the page which should be blank again and just view source code using the above mentioned method.
8. You will then see all of the information about your particular phone including your firmware update link which would lay between <SW_URL></SW_URL>.
9. Copy the URL into your URL Line and hit enter. The download should start automatically.
I hope this little page helped you in getting your firmware. If I helped you please hit the thanks button! Good Luck!!!
I just got an LG-P769 like an hour ago and I'm just getting up to speed with it at this moment, and I'm attempting to acquire the files mentioned above and not having any success at all. The URL I'm using ends up as:
h t t p : //csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/svc/popup/model_check.jsp?model=LG-P769&esn=(serial number here)
and it fails each time with the model check according to the "View Source" info:
Code:
<?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8' ?>
<response req_cmd='check_model' status='FAIL'/>
I tried LGP769, tried lg-p769, P769, p769, etc, several variations and each time I get nowhere soooo... now what?
I'm not sure this is useful to me at all given it's a T-Mobile variant but I figured I'd grab the files just in case, not even sure how I want to proceed with this phone at the moment. It's brand new (manufactured 1st week of April 2013), and it's still using Android 4.0.4 ICS - it has not been upgraded to Jelly Bean so far and I don't plan to until I've had a chance to go through most every relevant post here so far and figure out what I'd like to do with it.
I do see a CM10.1 is available so that's pretty awesome but, of course it ends up being in a perpetual beta and for once I'd just like to have a phone that works and I don't have to **** around with it at all or be a guinea pig.
I may just do the official 4.1.2 update and be done with it at that point, but there are some 4.2.2 aspects that I wouldn't mind having as well.
And so this whole journey begins yet again with a new device...
Bleh, figured out how to get at least the info since I already have the actual ESN (it's on the label in the battery compartment as well, just remove the hyphens), but still no actual download takes place (the XML page source doesn't show an update URL at all, probably because it's a T-Mobile sold model, I'm just guessing). The model check passes and I get more info in the page source but, just the same I think I'll wait a bit and see what I end up deciding to do with this thing (sell it or keep it).
But thanks for the information just the same.

Sure no problem. . .the model is LGP769BK and then put your serial number at the end. But you should be able to get the information (link) that you needed by putting the ESN # on the second hyperlink.
Many are typing the serial number instead of the IMEI, I'm sure. I did, and got the same error mentioned above. Replaced the serial with the IMEI (no dashes) and all was successful. However it said my check was ok, and did not show a download link at all.
On the second hyperlink you need to place the esn number at the end the you will bee able to find the link after viewing the source. Since the update is still ongoing it may not give you the link just yet but keep trying. Found this link in March and it just worked for me a week ago.
Sent from my LG-P769(20d) using the xda-developers app. Press the thanks button if I helped you.
Well since the Jelly Bean update (4.1.2) was pulled at T-Mobile's request because of too many damned bugs and problems, I still get basically zip when I do the URL effort, no matter how many times I attempt it.
There's just nothing there to download for the P769, as I suspected once I did the research and discovered T-Mobile had it yanked and it's being redone for later release. I'm not missing anything at the moment so it's not a big deal I suppose.
tl;dr I have the P769, which is T-Mobile's variant, and there's nothing to download at this time.
EDIT: I just wanted to bump this up just in case you wanted to get the URL for the ROM for your phone.

First, Thank you Nathan.7118391 for this share. :good:
You can do it much shorter.
1. get your IEMI by typing in *#06# into the phone dialpad (mine is 014160007655919)
2. copy this link, delete my IEMI and enter yours.
Code:
csmg.lgmobile.com:9002/csmg/b2c/client/auth_model_check2.jsp?esn=014160007655919
3. download your original firmware.
Very useful and worked like a charm
Many Thanks

Installed cm13 - cannot register phone on network.

Its been a long slog but ive got the os - I thought id open a new thread. I cant seem to register on the phone network. Its not the sim as ive tried another on (another provider) and that's the same and its also been a problem across all (even the stock images) that ive tried. Ive read on another thread is there a folder that I could have formatted which holds network or radio information....?
Just a thought....
Cheers.
ok - I believe its something to do with me imei number being forgotten....found a tool called the ARIZA patch but for some reason my cm13 build isn't rooted. Ive installed superuser but I still don't get root access (needed for ARIZA to work) I assumed the cm13 build would already be rooted....and idea's - I'm probably missing something...
Edit: just found the root slider - ariza patch doesn't work though - error is "phone not proper"

Yep - looks like that's what happened - my imei number currently is that....well, at least I know now how to get it to a custom rom so ill have to reflash back to stock first - thanks for the link, that's a great help....ill report back in a bit...thanks again.
Nope - no luck so far....but that's definitely the problem.....lost the imei....ive never had the issue before - ive flashed mine loads of times (Note 3) and never had a problem so I never thought to back it up....if anyone has any other option I can try that'd be great....
Cheers
Ive followed the walkthrough but its not 100% clear - I might run through it a few times....
Supersu does not work on CM13, yet.
You need to turn on developer options in settings.
Well, all the stuff ive tried so far hasn't worked....I think id be looking at a manual entry (the imei is under the phone) so will try to find something along those lines....
I did try going back to a stock rom but seemed fruitless. ive gone back to cm13 as it seems the system is more open (obviously). It looks like the imei changer programs will work if xposed framework is installed....which I'm currently trying to work out how to do....easier said than done...
I think I'm done - I cant see any way of getting the imei back on there....think the phone has had it....my first loss...the xposed framework does not support the s2's architecture (that I can see)

I had a similar problem when I switched from ICS to JB, tree years ago. My phone would not register on any network no matter the SIM I put in (I tried 3 different operators). The only way I could solve it was with an apk called "Galaxy S2 Sim Unlock" - I had to work with that a little but after a little headache I could solve the problem. Since then, everything is ok - I can register on any network. My personal lesson from that experience is: "Never do a Factory Reset when upgrading Android (eg. ICS to JB, JB to KK, KK to LP and so on)." But that's only my experience. Now I'm on MM 6.0.1 (Cyanogen 13).
Ok- ill go take a look now....thanks for the link - I was hoping that someone could offer (something like this) so ive got another way of tackling it...cheers.
Edit - just gone looking and I cant see an app with the exact description....do you have the authors name (to narrow it down a little??)
Just to add this phone wasn't actually sim locked in the first place...are you saying that the side affect of using the sim unlocking software will insert the imei back in??

I bought my phone unlocked in 2011 - brand new, official release, so on.
I rooted it right away and started experimenting, installed tons of unofficial/official ROMs, playing with kernels, tweaking and everything, upgrading as soon as a new unofficial version would show up, from Stock Android 2.3.3 to... to X ... to Y... up to MM 6.0.1 (CM13) now.
I had few bricks over the time but I solved them in few hours to two days. But this problem with network registering was the longest of all and the scariest - it happened as I described it in the previous post. My understanding on that time (as I remember) was that the Factory Reset wiped my EFS.
That (Galaxy S2 Sim Unlock) apk gave me few codes I could use. Below is a note I made on those days (pretty confusing for me now, but it might help you):
-- Introducing "SIM network unlock PIN" didn't help me. I restart the phone and when it asked me the "SIM network unlock PIN", I introduced first the "Unfreeze code" but the network didn't unblock and then I introduced "SIM network unlock PIN" and the network unblocked."
As I searched now on Google Play I could not find "Galaxy S2 Sim Unlock" anymore. There is something called "GalaxSim Unlock" (by Spocky) - updated on december 2015, with support for Android 6.0.
Strange as mine I believe is the same as yours....unlocked generic phone. Ive not had any messages atall regarding "sim unlock" - my issue is theres a dummy imei in there - that's it although ill go and look now....any more information you have would be great...
Its the little things that help sometimes....I couldn't get the partitioning done atall then petrolcan mentioned a user and his script...then from that little bit of info I had a flashable zip that did everything for me...so everything helps.
I'm just not sure on the correlation between the sim unlock software and the imei missing....

Again, I'm not a specialist, but If I remember right, the EFS has to do with the IMEI, and on that time I have lost my EFS, and, I guess, my IMEI....
My S2 was usable (apks, games, wifi...) but not as a phone (for calling and receiving calls & SMS).
Or, you may want to try finding some ways of restoring EFS/IMEI....
yes, the efs folder holds the file which the imei is in (a bin file) but from what I read if you remove the efs folder completely the os will generate a new one....once you've got a new file then effectively you "should" be able to inject the imei into that thus renabling your phone (and therein lies the problem - getting the imeil back in) - yes, mines the same....everything works bar the phone access to the network...

Just guessing: Maybe "GalaxySim Unlock" injects the IMEI??? Check the description on Google Play:
"Detects errors like lost imei / serial in nv_data caused by third party apps"
You can give it a try with the free version - see what it founds on your phone.
I did try it....just gave me an nv_data error....nothing more than that...

I'll check about that tomorrow as I found few threads on XDA and I have to go now.... Hopefully you'll be "up and running" by the time I come back!
Heh - I hope so but I doubt it - spent about 5 hours Friday night, a good 12 yesterday and 12 the day before....any information you have would be great! thanks very much.
After looking around I think my best bet is the NV-items reader writer v1.0. but, I cant get it connected to the phone.....anyone got any clues on that one?? once connected it looks like you can edit the nv file and add the imei back in....

[SOLUTION] No IMEI/SIM not identified

Right, i've seen a lot of people have trouble with their phones not identifying their SIM cards, and i myself faced this problem awhile back, i upgraded to Android 6.0 on my Honor 7 PLK-01, after i wasn't happy with it i decided to downgrade back to 5.0.2, running B130, and after the downgrade my H7 no longer identified my SIM card. The only thread related to this was someone asking how to CHANGE the IMEI of the H7, and apparently asking that was against XDA rules, but i read through the rules and saw nothing against it, unless i missed something, but i hope this isnt against the rules.
First i'll try to explain what an IMEI is based on my little knowledge, the IMEI is needed for your network operator to contact with your phone (or sim, im not exactly too sure on that), and if your IMEI is missing, your sim will not work.
Basically, here's how to fix/get back your IMEI 1 & IMEI 2.
ATTENTION, IF YOUR PHONE IS ROOTED AND HAS A CUSTOM RECOVERY, YOU NEED TO UNROOT YOUR PHONE AND GET RID OF THE CUSTOM RECOVERY
STEP 1
Check what your phones build number is, you can do this by going to Settings > About Phone, you should have your Build ID listed in here
STEP 2
Go to NeedRom.com on your H7 and download your corresponding OS update, for example my phone was B130, so i downloaded the B130 > B140 update, i would post the link but apparently i can't post outside links since im a new user
STEP 3
After you've downloaded your update, you don't need to move it to any dload folder or anything, just go to Setting > Updater, click on the menu button on the bottom of your screen, choose local update and it should show your downloaded update there, click on it and you'll be granted and option to restart your phone, click on restart and it should take you to the install screen.
after it's installed, your phone will restart and your IMEI should now be restored, and your SIM should be working again.. You should notice it instantly from your SIM working again, but you can also check it by typing *#06# into your dialer
i personally didnt find any other way to fix the IMEI on H7, this was the only way i got my IMEI back.
If this worked for you, please leave a thanks on this post

Downgrade to lollipop!!

hi guys,
i am in a bit of a trouble as after waiting for a long time for MM to be released for honor 5x in my country Pakistan but there wasn't any thing to hope for so i decided to flash manually and choose a MM file but when i put the update.app in dload folder and attempted to force flash it came back with update failed error after some reading on xda and other forums i found out that the update package was not of my region, it was European with with Denmark association. so i changed my region to mts/by (Belarus) and modified the custom.bin file in accord thinking that i would change the region back to Pakistan after up-gradation (poor me ). the update process then went smoothly and my 5x rebooted but right after that some thing strange happened.
the boot screen went green with red and blue boxes and i was frightened that i might bricked my device but after some time it shows the honor logo and setup process started.
secondly my sim card seemed to be not registered and required puk code. i dismissed the message and went on with the process. now my sim is not registering with the network.
also there is a massive battery drain even i didn't install any app.
the overall look and feel is not changed very much and also the performance is laggy.
Thing is that now i wanted to downgrade it to lollipop. and totally clueless what to do here.
i tried (Honor 5X_Firmware_KIW-L21_Android 5.1_EMUI 3.1_C432B140_United Kingdom_Channel-Others ) by putting update.app and force flashing it but the update got stuck a 5% and after 10 to 15 minutes it restarts.
please help me out, i am totally confused here
Edit: my device model is KIW-L21 but after upgradation to MM it changed to KIW-AL10.
Build number is KIW-L21C432B330
Attached is the device information.

I have tried to look for an MM for middle East but could not find it. The only solution for you imho is to flash MM for middle east.
Another way is to unlock bootloader and manually downgrade to emui 5.1 by flashing image files.

i am in a bit of a trouble as after waiting for a long time for MM to be released for honor 5x in my country Pakistan but there wasn't any thing to hope for so i decided to flash manually and choose a MM file but when i put the update.app in dload folder and attempted to force flash it came back with update failed error after some reading on xda and other forums i found out that the update package was not of my region, it was European with with Denmark association. so i changed my region to mts/by (Belarus) and modified the custom.bin file in accord thinking that i would change the region back to Pakistan after up-gradation (poor me ). the update process then went smoothly and my 5x rebooted but right after that some thing strange happened.
the boot screen went green with red and blue boxes and i was frightened that i might bricked my device but after some time it shows the honor logo and setup process started.
secondly my sim card seemed to be not registered and required puk code. i dismissed the message and went on with the process. now my sim is not registering with the network.
also there is a massive battery drain even i didn't install any app.
the overall look and feel is not changed very much and also the performance is laggy.

Well thank you but please elaborate. What do you mean by change my phone to original specification?? Are you referring to change my region or any thing else? Idk how to change region on MM and my device is not rooted. I tried to unlock its bootloader but the captcha code is not appearing in emui english website. I also tried the chinese web but it is not accepting my entered captcha saying i have not entered correct code. I tried many times but this whole unlock thing is driving me crazy. I used three different laptops, three different browsers and also tried it on mobile browser but the same thing happened again and again.
So whats your opinion in this matter, and please forgive my noobness

First of all, you are not a noob buddy. Only experienced users try this stuff. The problem is that Huawei/emui is easily messed up. Well, we learn from our mistakes.
I meant, you should change the region back to middle east. I never tried to change the region of my phones so can not help you there. Sorry for that...
The captcha code problem is faced by tons of users and everybody takes a different approach to solve it. I used Microsoft edge on win10 and never faced the captcha problem. You can mail Huawei customer care with serial, IMEI and device id and state that you are facing captcha problem. May be they will provide you the code.
If you can not change the region then alas! You are in more trouble than I thought.
I am on limited mobile data these days, if that was not the case, I would have downloaded a transition package for any other Huawei device (preferably honor6 or 7 as these are my devices) and would have used Huawei update extractor to see what partitions are they flashing for a rollback.
(Advised by DigiGoon to do this)
That would have allowed me to specify which partitions you should flash to rollback to LP to change your region again but that's all wishful thinking for the time being.
By the way, did you edit build.prop to change region?

Thank you so much for bearing with me and for such a detailed opinion. i replaced the oem.info file for EU by going into /dev/block/platform/hi-mci.0/by-name/ and also edited the Custom.bin file in Device/data/ and put mts/by (EU region value) text and cleared the previous text which was hw/meafnaf (PK region value).
one more thing, now when i dial the string *#*#2846579#*#* to check country/vendor info, vendor is showed as "hw" and country is "default".
Hi
i don't know if this will help you, i faced a probleme few days ago

Well, to get your original device id, head to the thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-7/general/bricked-honor-7-honor-6-id-t3468333/page1
I apologize for KitKat instead of LP. My bad, I should have checked in detail.
Try to unlock bootloader and root the device as i am running out of options until the region is back and as for IMEI, head to
http://forum.xda-developers.com/canvas-a1/general/fix-imei-perfect-fix-android-imei-t2943567
And make sure the file you are using is the one you downloaded for your specific model.
Hope, any of this helps you.
What about battery drain and lags? If they disappeared and firmware is working fine, may be just restoring IMEI would be enough.

First of all thanks for your continued and kind assistance.
The thread you mentioned for imei is for mtk users only.
And yes i got my device id and the unlock code too but when i tried to unlock the boot-loader the command came back with wrong unlock code and failed.
i think my phone internal specification (imei and model number is missing) which i changed somehow and unintentionally is causing the problem. i tried but couldn't find any method for Qcom imei changing.
battery now is not draining like before but lag is still there.
So despite all your help(which i deeply appreciate), i am back to square one.

You may wish to have a look at the following page:
search the web for "Huawei Bricked phone repair guide with DC Phoenix" (sorry for not posting the link as I'm not sure it's allowed by these forums)
It's something that I haven't tried myself, but on that page, if you look at Method 2 Step 3, they're describing a possible (paid) solution to restore your missing details. I should caution the following though:
1. My antivirus flags the link in Method 2, Step 3 as UNSAFE, that could be because of what it does (changing IMEI, etc...) or maybe because the linked page/software is actually unsafe. You should exercise your own judgement there.
2. It's a paid solution
3. You may have to go through all the described steps before you attempt to repair your IMEI and other attributes.
I have used method 2 to un-brick an Ascend Mate 7 successfully, but that device had not lost its IMEI in the process, so I did not have to go through step 3 (paid 15 Euros for DC-Unlocker credits to flash the site's own recovery, nothing else I had tried would work).
The alternative would be, as other members have suggested, is to take it to a service center if that is an option for you. Hopefully someone here can suggest a better (and free) solution that you can apply directly instead of the above.
