New way to use Firmware Finder to upgrade your P9+ - Huawei P9 Plus Guides, News, & Discussion

Here is a new way to upgrade your phone with Firmware Finder.
Download it from the link and install.
This method use proxy to send update to System Updater.
The Firmware must be signed by Huawei or the update will not pass. Tested on FULL firmware and it works, have not tested on OTA but maby someone can try?

I have now received update notification through the firmware finder app. It is the b360 version for VIE-L09 model. I am currently downloading it now, so if that works, I'll post a new thread on how-to.
Hope this works

Best way for you will be to use honor multi-tool to debrand your phone to an EU version and then use its updates to update to latest MM build B380.
Alternatively, you can try to find MM build for C636 using the tool provided in the following thread

Oops, sorry, forgot one thing, you need to be rooted for the first method and as rooting comes after unlocking bootloader (which voids warranty), its best that you use the second method if you are not rooted already.
On the other hand, if you want to root and debrand, follow any of the tutorials online or just ask for help here.
Enjoy...

i am not sure if this works, but if you were to download the latest version, extract update.app and put it into dload folder, restart phone and push vol + vol - as well as power at the same time, wouldn't it force to update the entire phone with all bells and whistles as well?

Yep, it will if he has a firmware for his phone but actually he can not find ome and if there is none, he needs to debrand to another model to be able to install that model's update.

guys, im from the Philippines and we have a facebook group for P9 and P9 Plus users, some members (P9) are posting screenshots of an update to Android Nougat to their phone without signing up for the beta program.
update:
if they update to B190, the next OTA they get is the nougat update
I hope that we P9 plus users have the same update very soon.

Still on an old firmware here with security patch june.
B173 No update
B180 No update
B181 No update.
OTA
So i think Nougat for P9+ is not gonna come for a long time.
P9 and new mate gonna get it first and then maybe P9+ get it...
That is really bad of Huawei.
So if you don't receive OTA you don't update ?

I just wonder why some people recive all OTA and some recive non? Do they push OTA by imei number or something else?

the main flagship has no nougat update yet, users of p9 are still getting OTA updates for B320. now i know why users are complaining on how Huawei handles their software. i switched from OP3 to P9 Plus mainly because of the camera, will be waiting for OP3T to be sold in my country and will switch back to OnePlus. they're getting good at providing support for their flagship, and a lot of rom/kernel choices here on XDA

OTA varies from country to country. Frequency of updates depends on your local/regional Huawei branch.

Thanks.
Just a quick heads up for everyone thinking of using HuRUpdater for Honor 10 as I hard bricked my Honor 10 trying it out even by triple checking instructions carefully. It's definitely not compatible with it. Now I had to get it sent off for warranty repair. :crying:

No nothing at all. Tried everything. It's completely hard bricked. I even tried getting it to boot into fastboot mode but the display doesn't even turn on. I had to beg my mum to let me buy a new smartphone. I'm thankfully getting the OnePlus 6 and will sell the Honor 10 when it comes back from repair to pay my mum back. The only thing stuck in my mind is wishing I had just used erecovery earlier.

I used HurUpdater v0.3.zip and downloaded all firmware files for COL-L29 8.1.0.1.0.4 and renamed the files to match the HurUpdater thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-9/development/tool-flash-official-firmware-recovery-t3769279 Then I flashed in TWRP Recovery. It flashed successfully and I rebooted once complete. Then I got the black screen of death and tried to turn the phone on.
It's strange as the thread shows that it works for the P20 that has the same processor and confirmed by a user.

I think there is some issue with those build in firmware finder one of my friend tried .120 build with HurUpdater and it flashed but got different device build installed. Its showing device as fty-l29 with chipset-boston as build number and may security patch .
But when he tried with 104 his device also bricked and currently can't switch on. Does any one of you know a way to recover it.

Ah okay, glad I'm not alone. I tried to search for solutions too but nothing. It would be ideal if Huawei/Honor had a similar tool like what OnePlus have for there devices because it's as simple as using an MSM Download Tool and installing the Qualcomm Drivers and then flashing all files in the firmware. Huawei/Honor could have one for Kirin devices.

It's still beta. So you'd have to be on the beta list to get it.
You can install it using Nocheck recovery, but you need an unlocked phone for that.

It is a beta. GSMArena is mistaken, and they are citing a blog named GetDroidTips that itself found the beta firmware from FirmwareFinder. GetDroidTips mailed a bunch of websites (us included) claiming that the stable update was rolling out. Guess they fooled a bunch of websites.

i have seen a lot of "news" about this citing droidtips including german websites.... it even was suggested in google news feed... thats the first time i am experiencing how fake news spread first hand
the question, if I did update manually....will I later be able to get OTA as normal..or I will then need each time to do manually ?
