CM Patch for SIM2 3G only mode fix - Samsung Galaxy J5 Guides, News, & Discussion

I have tried many ROMS for the SM-J500F. But in all of them, I have always been borthered by one issue. I really use my mobile data on SIM2 which I solely use for data connections only. But in every custom ROM I try I can't change the SIM2 data mode to 3G only. The option shows selected but the phone remains connected to 2.5G network (EDGE). The network mode is by default unchangeably Auto, i.e. it only connects to 3G when enough 3G network strength is detected, whcih is a very rare case in my area. So I was hoping if someone could work for a patch to all those ROMs to solve this one issue. It'd be a great help. This is the only one factor which leads me always to reverting back to stock after I flash a custom ROM. Also suggestions for a custom ROM for J500F without the issue would be nice.

change first sim1 to 2G, then set sim2 to 3G, 4G

1) Can you take a logcat?
2) Did you try some app which can change the network type?

No I didn't try any other app. But I am certain it won't work.

That is not possible because I get 3G network and can use it but I cannot opt for the 3G only mode in settings.

No I did try any other App. But I'm sure it won't work.
And well, I don't know much about log cat. But I don't think that the logcat will of any use unless an error occurs.

i found a answer for the issue.i am also using a sm j500f phone.i am on aicp custom rom(nougat).and the solution is install xposed and go to the downloads section in xposed app.and there u can find a xposed module named
Netwokmode enabler.download it and reboot.(and also u must have rooted the device.) and u can go ti settings and change the network modes like in stock roms.

how do i stop my 9100 from connecting to 3g

phone setup:
i9100
android ver 4.0.3
baseband i9100mugld3
cf rooted
This may sound like a crazy question but there are 2 locations i'm at a lot that have 0 to 1 bars of 3g and an edge tower right on top of them. Anyway for some reason the phone almost always wants to grab onto the 3g and it is a horrible connection for both voice and data. I have wireless there so i really don't care about data but dropping calls sucks. Is there an app, solution, workaround to forcing the phone onto the cel tower i want to use instead of letting it decide to do the wrong thing?
thanks
Have you tried just turning off mobile data in settings?

Settings > Wireless & Network > More > Mobile Network > Network mode > select GSM only and it will only use the gprs connection. If you dont want to use the GPRS connection then uncheck the " Use Packet Data Option ".
I've actually tried that while it disables data it doesn't force a switch on the tower. I guess my title & original question isn't quite right.
so now i guess how do i force my phone onto a different tower so i can actually get good service when i need it.
I just use the switchpro widget, since then i can turn on and off a lot of stuff from my homescreen.

Under mobile network settings, change it from auto mode to gsm only. I guess this is what you are looking for

actually i was just about to post the gsm/wcdma/auto to get it to switch over. However it does not always work sadly. I remember on an old moto (forget model) that i could actually choose a network tower, man i wish i could do that now

It perfectly works for me. If i set gsm only, it stays on edge and if i set wcdma only, it stays on H+ for me.
sorry should have been more specific again. it will go to edge but will often decide to pick a tower far away instead of a close one

Galaxy S3 Network Bug on reconnect [SOLVED]

Hey there fellas,
I tried to find something on the forums regarding this matter, but I found a very annoying bug/habit. I'm currently on InsertCoin 2.3.1 and tried a wide variety of modem firmwares, but when I'm in areas where I have a very bad signal (in the gym's basement, for example), I completely lose connection to my network provider from time to time. Sometimes, when my device is reconnecting, it cannot reestablish a mobile data connection. When this happens, I can't make or receive calls either, even though the signal bar shows a valid connection!
In a nutshell: After losing signal, the device seems to reconnect to the provider network, but not properly. Can't make phone calls, can't send or receive SMS, only indicator for this is the missing mobile data connection icon. Only a restart resolves this problem, but I'm not happy with restarting my phone multiple times a day!
Here are some topics that seem similar to my problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1782204&highlight=losing+signal
http://www.samsunggalaxys3forum.com.../1214-losing-connection-cellular-network.html
As I said, I already tried different modem firmwares, always with the same result. Can anybody help me with that matter?

Solution: Check your current CSC and make sure it's set to your specific country!
I have the same issue from when I had stock ICS and now still the same with Jellybean.

One enter settings for network APN etc .
Two correct modem for network phone and location .
Three correct CSC for network/area
Four problem on original phone providers rom and modem ???
Five might be worth investigation of RIL .

I have the same issue.. at first I thought it was due to the crappy network provider .. however I tried putting my sim in my old Nokia e5 and got decent signal strength even in areas where the s3 was unable to connect to the network. I faced the same problem even in stock ROM updated to latest version available for my region.
Any help would be much appreciay .

I used to have this problem with my stock ICS rom, exactly the same situation you described. Can't make any call after coming out from a tube.
I9300XXDLJ4 (4.1.1) is all good in reconnecting the signal.

Okay, after a few days of testing and trying to get a bad signal on purpose, it seems that setting up the CSC did the trick for me. After flashing InsertCoin, I had a French CSC. So I switched it to Germany and now the reconnect issues seem to be gone! There is a very handy CSC switching tool for free in the Playstore, but be careful, your ROM must support MultiCSC and switching the CSC wipes your internal memory!

[Q] WIFI and Network operator related problem, need help

I have the following situation:
I live in Cuba, and my phone is operating on CUBACEL, the Cuban celphone company. This is a 2G network. While it has CUBACEL sim inside and the Wifi interface is active, it seems to stop working. At least within the 2.4 Ghz band. It simply does not detect any network whatsoever.
If I insert other micro-sims, like one from AT&T USA (3G), the phone wifi starts working, and it detects all networks. Another curious thing is that it will not detect any network if it does not have any sim inserted.
Does anybody out there have any idea of what might be the cause of this behavior and how could it be fixed?
Best regards to all,
Zedd.

Hi Zedd,
I've been struggling with this for a while now and today I finally found the solution. What happens is that Cubacel has the wrong country code on the SIM cards. What you have to do is change this on the phone. You can easily get this fixed following this great tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21406675
After installing this app and removing the power saving mode it worked like a charm for me.
To remove power saving mode dial *#0011# and then in advanced choose Wifi. There turn of Power Save.
Hope this helped!
Best wishes.

[Q] Xperia ray- Mobile Data issue

I've installed CyanogenMod 10 (NIGHTLY) in my Sony Xperia Ray (ST18i). Everything works fine except Mobile Data.
When I turn Mobile Data on, this error message appears for few seconds:
"Unable to resolve host "get.cm". No address associated with hostname".
At the same time, on the status bar, i can see 3G and then H connection icon, before they both disappear. So only Wifi connection works. My APN seems correctly configured.
I've also tried different basebands (85 and 86), but no results.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
Thanks to all in advance, and sorry for my poor english

I think it is some issue with your network and/or simcard.
Have you tried using this sim in some other phone?
If this problem does not exist on other devices, you might need to reflash the ROM after clearing the data & cache.

Mobile data does not work with the same simcard in other devices. So this problem has to be related to my simcard and/or network. Thank you for this suggestion.

Mobile Data - No LTE on ROMs

Hi all,
Thanks for taking a moment to see if you can help me out! I haven't been on the forum in a long time as I haven't had my Android devices going, but I'm back! (Older, and I wish wiser!)
I am flashing a few different custom roms to my SPG771 (karin), but even though it's recognizing the SIM card, the network is appearing, and the APN details look correct, I don't get any mobile network data transfer when off WiFi, I can't even get it to show 4G/LTE in the top bar beside the data strength bar.
Anyone experiencing anything similar with regards to cellular data on custom roms?
Thanks in advance for your help!
I should note, the data is working perfectly fine on the stock images from Sony, either using the nordic general or the UK custom.
