Will an Android custom ROM without Cellular/WIFI/BT/GPS support build and boot? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I only skimmed through the rom-build guide here at XDA University. I don't want to spend days doing it and find
out I've wasted my time.
Is there any reason this wouldn't build and/or boot?
Is it actually impossible? I'd like to get more than one response on this. I know some devs' impossibilities are others'
know-how.

If you look in the og evo forum there used to be a guy in there who was trying to do exactly what your after with that device

I understand that without those bits the overall size of the room should be smaller thereby use less battery and run quicker. But if leave the WiFi and GPS to use in a car without an infotainment set up

How much ram does it take?
Sent from my LiquidSmooth ICS 1.5 Thunderbolt
Not enough to make it impossible to use. Its pretty damn slick. If that's a problem for you you can always use v6supercharger to make the lmk values higher to keep more free ram. I think he actually cooks that right in. Ram usage isn't what slows the phone down because the android os will free up ram as soon as it needs it. Its called the low memory killer or lmk.

Thanks for that information. I'm retired as Liquid's Tester. I sent Santod a message on InfectedRom about wanting to be a tester for him, perhaps you could put in a good word?
Also what radios are you using on the latest nusense?
I use the .19 radios for all roms pretty much. I dont think Santod has many testers and I think he does most of the testing himself.

No. 605.2 are the leaked radios. Those give me random reboots so I don't use them.

Follow the install instructions in the op or it won't run. It has to be formatted in ext3 in order for it to run because it uses the stock kernel.

I don't remember if that can be done with cwm so if you aren't using 4ext you'll have to get it to format all the partitions.

I just tried it and had so many issues with it - for instance the power menu wouldn't work - it'd cause a reboot and I wasn't getting 4G either,
And I'm using 4ext, I've never changed the kernel since I first used the phone, so do still need to change it? Or is it already in 3ext format? I've flashed roms before so I know how to do it but never changed format of partitions

I'm not trying to be a **** but did you read the entire op? You have to disable some things in the power menu for it to work. That is one of the reasons I said to wait for the next release because santod fixed a lot of the broken stuff in the current build.

Use liquid 3.2 GB AOSP.. runs amazing.. ICS is nice if you want your phone to work like crap.. Until we get a full release with a kernel source... it will continue to run like crap.

Oh dude, no wonder why, so pretty much just hold out until the next release? btw, you didn't come off like a ****, I didn't take it like that. - I read some of the OP - here's my biggest question - why do you have to format to 3ext format instead of it being 4ext format? And say, when I'm done with using this rom and switching to another do I have to put it back to 4ext format?
Also - I was just about to run a logcat for santod on the bugs I was getting.. I guess he beat me to it.
But again, about the whole whole 3ext, 4ext thing, whats the deal behind that?

bro, I know this. lol. I was the one who tested MR3 before the release. lol. I knew the bugs.
The stock kernel doesn't support the ext4 file system. It only supports ext3. If it isn't formatted that way prior to flashing everything will crash on startup.

I believe the reason is because we do not use the Bluez Bluetooth stack that the program was originally written for, instead we use broadcom bt.le. I may be wrong.
We also do not have android 4.2 which the dev rewrote the drivers for.
We are stuck in the void till we get an update, cm, or a rewritten driver. 2 of 3 options seem likely.
I destroyed my rom using trial and error to try to get this working last night and had to reflash.

It's endorsed by Canonical, so yes. They don't release or distrubute anything closed source. That's the reason you can't get stuff like Oracle Java or Google Chrome as part of Ubuntu without doing the legwork to install it yourself.
The good thing is that by the time we are all bored of jellybean and development has slowed, it will probably be ready to flash on our rezzie. Good reason to keep the phone another year or so. Who else registered their email for info.

Well they did recently add proprietary Nvidia drivers to their official repositories. Not to mention that the mainline kernel does have some blobs in it (of course that's why GNU maintains a version that is open source only).

I'm probably dreaming, though, since we have way too much proprietary hardware.

From what I've seen while looking at videos and whatnot, the experience is totally different. It reminds me of a really fancy Meego. Which is a good thing, imo.
I don't pay much attention to Engadget anymore, but they've a very good video up on Ubuntu for Phones. The founder of Cantonical says that it will be available to download and that "we have a large community, we expect folks will help make images for a variety of different devices." I think that pretty much confirms our open source questions.

Me too, the quality of pictures is unchanged.
So, it turns out we're out of luck. After a ton of research, the only exploit that works to S-OFF works with hboot 1.44, but the GE ships with Android 4.2.2 which has hboot 1.54, which patched the exploit.
We have to wait it out for S-OFF.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've never seen the Tampered flag returned to normal. I've seen counter resets for plenty of devices, but in the few phones I've rooted and modded for friends, I haven't seen a boot loader reset tool that could fix it. Am I living in the past?

We've had a system dump for a couple of weeks now.
I have the GE as well. It would be nice if we had a separate forum. I have a few things I would like to see if others are seeing as well:
Home and back button light work "inconsistently"
Wifi seems to be inconsistent too (I may have solved this with turning off the "wifi optimization" in the advanced settings
IR definitely does not work. I tried the MacRemote app, which works on the standard HTC One.
Loving the phone so far. It is so nice to finally have AT&T LTE on a stock android(ish) device. For those that will scream that this is not "stock android" I shall call it SKINLESS android.

Yeah, once you have S-Off, you can change the flags, remove them, add ones, etc etc. You can even change and reset it back to 100% completely stock and locked / S-on if desired. I used it on my DNA (same s-off method) then returned it to factory locked before I sold it.

I was about to post this plea for help and then I decided to try a factory reset and before I could finish signing into google I had an LTE signal.
If you're having connection issues try a factory reset. Mine was cycling between 3 bands along with having no signal at all and never managed a 4G LTE signal, I even went and got another sim card. Incredibly relieved at the moment, the phone is great, no junk, just Android.

Custom boot anis (lets get this party started!) - Sprint

This thread will expand but for now this is a call out to any and all that want custom boot anis. Hopefully the devs will figure out how to make .zip anis work like they did previously (I would but I don't have a G3 yet). I have been designing and making custom boot animations for years now and was even honored to develop the OMIrom boot animation. This is a callout to devs also, I would be honored to make the boot animation for the roms you are well off by now developing. I'f youd like to see some of my custom work it will be up shortly.

Do the other variants have custom bootanis working already? It would be good to know because on one of my previous phones (either the S2 or evo3D) if it was over a certain file size or dimensions, you could soft brick.
/carrier/cust/poweron and /poweroff. No more ugly ass sprint spark anis!

There is a G3 boot ani thread in the General G3 section in Themes and Apps.

Could you do a spinning vw/rabbit emblem. Like a coin vw logo on one side rabbit emblem on the other?

The bootanimation I made today was almost 60mb and it works great. So I don't think so.

Thank you for this buddy!
I was hoping people might read that in here but they didnt. So I just made a little handy easy to find guide to hopefully save a million questions later.
You did a good write up on it in your thread too but they aren't seeing that one either apparently. Dang lazy bums.

I didn't have the sprint boot but that also meant I didn't get the wifi calling app either. So when I reset the phone using the msl code to get wifi calling I got the sprint boot. You can just add new boot and shutdown ani to System/media and delete the sprint ones and your golden. Pretty easy.

Trust me. Lol. I am happy and am missing nothing. I don't have any call issues. Wi-Fi calling it says "attempting HD voice " but whether it works or not is no problem. I like my phone sprintless. Lmao. Thanks brother.

I do need or would like to grab my msl. So I'll call Sprint and keep it for ****'s and giggles later.

Yeah, I needed the WIFI calling. My home is a vortex for Sprint signals, all around me is full strength and once I'm home there's nothing. Sprint has no idea why . Had to have an Air Rave which they supplied at no charge, but the wifi calling actually works better.
The CdmaDevTermV.2 method got my MSL without having to call sprint. The method is in here somewhere and was pretty simple. :good:
