Haven't touched my MDK S4 in 3 years...what do you guys suggest I do from here? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hello All,
I've been out of the scene for years...and I'm just getting back into the hacking that I used to do...
My question is this....with the screenshot attached...where would you go from here as far as upgrading goes?
Screenie

If you want to actually use it LineageOS is pretty solid (even thoug, possibly cause of my incompetence I am just running it in 3G)
A quick question.. my baseband is still VRUFNK1 and it appears that you have a more recent one, were you able to find an upgrade for the baseband that did not affect the bootloader? Where?
I'd love more recent radios (might possibly help with an issue I am having with not being able to switch to LTE, even though the cause might be completely different)

Alltel Touch Pro 2.01.671.1 ROM update

It's on HTC's website, dated July 7th. I haven't seen any other threads on it, and I wanted to see if anyone else has tried it. I've updated to it myself, and it seems to be an overall improvement over the version I had. There's really nothing much in the notes, though it seems they tweaked quite a bit. Most notably, it's done wonders for my battery life. I used to always come home with a phone that was nearly dead. Now I get home with 60-70% still left on the battery. It could be my imagination, but the phone seems a bit more responsive now as well. If the battery life is anything to go by, it could just be from general optimization of the ROM. Other points of interest... the activesync app is no longer self-launching, and Opera Mobile appears to have had an update as well.

im in the process of doing it know, ill let ya know what i think in a bit
I tried it when it 1st came out, its definitely better than the shipped rom, but its still got all of the bloatware and other b.s. that interferes with performance. IMO, you're still better off with a cooked rom.
ya i honestly cant tell a different between stock rom and this update
Oh yeah, I'm sure a cooked rom is faster. Just thought I'd put the PSA out there. It does seem to address a few issues for my launch version of the ROM.
one of these day ill get around to putting a custom rom on my phone.
thiers just to many and i cant figure out which one i want
stock
if i have already unlocked my phone and running a custom rom and want to flash to this stock rom do i need to do anything different?
No, just flash as you normally do. Every couple of flashes I go back to the stock rom anyway. Probably just the "placebo" effect, but I've convinced myself it helps.
Do it for the Radio

Notation to everyone here this ROM includes an updated radio. 1.12.20F. So that it's self should be worth it. I run NFS rom but I am going to update to this so I can grab the updated radio. I will then jump to his. My radio is currently 1.03.16F. It also has the later PRL and PRI.
I see the in the Radio Thread in this forum that they have the alltel readio without the whole ROM. So if you want go that route. I have just found that doing a stock flash every once in awhile keeps my custom flashing less problematic.
im still having problems as far as radio signal.........and the only reason i don't just upgraded the radio is their is no alltel dump yet
I also get great battery life after the update.

Go to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=531134
and look on the first post. In it it says how to check my signal. That will show you what you need. Lower is better for all 3 numbers it shows in the post to look at.

typing this didn't do anything...all i got was call cant be completed as dialed
One very nice discovery I made today (because of how little I actually talk on my TP) is that they've changed the call answer screen a bit. Seems they took a page from Apple's book and changed the answer and ignore buttons into a slider. You slide it all the way left to answer, and right to ignore. Should fix the accidental answer problem I know a lot of people (including myself) have had.
Will this work on Verizon TP? I know i will have to apply keyboard patch but would it work?
Radio should work no problem, especially since alltel and verizon are 1 now.
I dispise Verizon ROM. No YouTube, No Internet Sharing etc... Got it as a insurance replacement when my Alltel TP broke. They said they don't have Alltel TPs anymore.
Please give me the good news... PLEEEAAASE
PS: I already have GPS unlocked using MR1 release from Verizon.

I wouldn't attempt it if I were you. Have you considered trying a custom rom? If you've never done it I could help you through the process. Stock roms SUCK!
Can i ask you if it works in a touch pro un-locked of the vodafone Italy company?
I have an alltel touch pro but my area switched to verizon now, im assuming this won't be a problem because i didn't need to do any update when they switched so im guessing the radio won't be an issue? Really want to do this if it increases battery.
Also will this remove any settings or themes that kind of stuff?
edit nevermind i see it removes everything.
if i take my memory card out before i update can will all the programs that are one it reinstall? and when i put all my backed up data back on the device do the programs reinstall or do i have to do something to reinstall them?

Help. Trying to update my Bolt to Gingerbread

Hi guys, I have a rooted Bolt currently running 1.70.605.0. I rooted when i got it back in May and since then I installed a rooted update of Froyo. The phone has been dropping network connection a lot lately that it's very aggrevating. I am thinking it may help fix my problem if I update to Gingerbread with the new radio.
i downloaded the file 2.11.605.3.zip from the TeamBamF.net site last night but now I am sort stuck. It's been so long since I rooted this phone so I kinda need some help. I search everywhere but haven't found a thread where there is like a step by step direction. If someone can provide me some assistance or point me to the right thread I would so much appreciate it.
Vince
The data dropping out may be due to some work/upgrades in your area ... call VZW to see if they know anything.
As far as updating to GB, my advice is tread lightly ... especially if you're just wanting a stock version of it. There are bugs, the biggest being voice mail notifications not working, that may drive you nuts. That being said, there are several custom ROMs around that have fixes/tweaks that make this plagued GB build VZW & HTC released much more manageable. Look around and there are a few "stock" custom ROMs out there - or if you prefer a totally different look/feel there are several Sense 3.0 ports to choose from too.
As far as a how-to guide, the best one I've seen is THIS ONE. Read it and get knowledge my friend
Happy flashing!
2.11.605.3.zip is the [gb] patch - "It changes camera libs, and some insignificant
framework, and apks." as stated on teambamf.net, i did read it is running smooth,
increased battery life but, with issues pertaining to vm notification error and front facing camera
upside down. i agree with Yank talk with carrier, im currently running dasBAMF Forever
kernel 2.6.35.10 stock radios have had no issues.

Can you link me to that download? I would like to see exactly what you are making reference to before I comment.
Some of those update .zips are the full unrooted rom. You wouldn't want to flash that. You want to make sure and look for something like...
"Rooted Debloat Blah Blah Blah"
The link provided by Yank is a good one. #3 for "Flashing a Rom".
Also another hint (just in case you are unfamiliar with recovery). the camera buttons toggle up/down and the power button is used to make a selection. you can select "go back" by toggling to it and selecting it or you can use the soft back key.
hope that helps.
As to the voicemail issue, Eris has fixed that. Took him 30 minutes, he said.

[Q] ICS Update Now have little issue when starting WIFI

First off I have a untouched amaze, But I want it rooted (just dont know where to start) and a bit nervous to mess up the phone.
But anyway I just updated to ICS 4.0 yesterday and whenever I go to turn my WIFI on it jumps me to my phones lockscreen, not my GOLOCKER one, I looked for a little bit on my phone to see if it were a security thing but couldnt find it, any help would be great.
I will be around more trying to get the concept down of rooting so i will have some questions but I will also do my research first, thanks guys
Carrier?

It's a known issue for some, try a custom rom? See if that helps. Could be a bad flash, but you can't re-update unless you're s-off.

HTC One Cross Compatible stuff

Hi guys,
so what i've been noticing is there is alot of stuff in the HTC One international version section and i've heard and seen people running different stuff from there.
i think it might be a good idea to start a thread or something that can link to those specific threads about kernel's or roms that work on our phone. I've already loaded up a battery % mod from there that works with our phone. that might get the ball rolling.
from what i heard all the roms are cross compatible since pretty much no one adds firmware into their roms just the OS software and thats it. *correct me if i'm wrong*
though the one thing to be weary about is since the tmobile wifi calling is built into our stock rom if you want to keep it you'd have to mod the current rom file we're using. if you use the international roms it will not have wifi calling since their roms stock dont come with it.
Just a thought to get the ball rolling on roms. I'm one to not really care about wifi calling since i mean most of us are on the new tmobile non contract unlimited lines anyways so theres no need to worry about going over minutes. you'd be only worried about it if your out of the country or in a place that has really bad signal and want to use wifi to make a call.

Everything over there will work with our phone. I'm not sure why they made a different section.

[Q] i777 modem/RIL questions

Okay, so, I've done a fair amount of reading and searching about modems and RILs, including other forums, but I've still yet to find the specific information I'm looking for. (Most of the stuff that I've found relates to the i9100.) So if I missed the relevant post, I apologize, please direct me there.
That said, here's the deal. I've got an i777, which I have unlocked and am currently using on T-Mobile. I've flashed the stable CM 10.1.3 (Android 4.2.2). Its baseband is UCLE5. It's running well. I have few complaints, except for occasional low signal.
I've already seen this thread, with the different modems available: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1336958
I lost the link, but I also found a thread, possibly on another forum, where a T-Mobile user reported better performance with baseband UCMD8. I'd like to try it. I think I can manage flashing it on my own via CWM.
However, I've read in a bunch of places that it's also important to have a RIL matching the baseband version. I found a thread that gives a terminal emulator command to find your current RIL version (getprop "gsm.version.ril-impl"), and mine is "Samsung RIL(IPC) v2.0", which is apparently from Gingerbread.
So, my question is this: Should I also change my RIL? If so, 1) where would I get the appropriate RIL for the i777 with CM10.1.3, and 2) how would I install it, preferably without performing another wipe, reset and ROM installation?
Thanks in advance for your help!

You have nothing to worry about - just flash the i777 modem you want via recovery; you don't have to wipe anything, it will work fine. I wouldn't worry too much about RIL; over the two years of changing modems back and forth I've never encountered any problems regarding RIL (except for some wakelocks, but that's more to do with bad/weak signal than anything else).
To be clear, I'd still be happy for input from anyone regarding the i777's RIL, but I did go ahead and flash UCMD8. I've already noticed something new; my phone now seems to drop from H+ to 3G fairly aggressively when I'm not actually using it, then go back to H+ when I do, where since flashing CM10.1.3, it previously connected only at H+ or E. I imagine this is a battery saving measure. I'll have to see how it behaves for a few days.
Thanks for your response SteveMurphy. By the way, what baseband/RIL version do you use, if I may ask?

I'm on UCMD8,
The reason you're seeing 3G more often is because with the newer roms you have the ability to better control your network modes. For instance, if you want to use Edge you can manually switch to 2G mode. It's possible the older firmwares (GB, ICS...) had this option but I really can't remember.
Galaxy S Backdoor
So it seems my question about RILs was unintentionally timely, as Samsung's RIL for Galaxy S devices contains a backdoor that's been verified with proof of concept.
https://www.fsf.org/blogs/community/replicant-developers-find-and-close-samsung-galaxy-backdoor
http://redmine.replicant.us/projects/replicant/wiki/SamsungGalaxyBackdoor
I'm not sure which version of Samsung's RIL they tested, or whether they tested the I777, but it seems most Galaxy phones are affected.
Hope someone gets to work on this soon.

Suspiciously timely, yes.
here's another take on the back-door claim:
