Reoccurring daughter board failure - HTC One Max

So my phone is a Verizon HTC one max running 4.4.2 s-off adrenaline Rom, rooted, all that good stuff.
I keep having a daughter/secondary motherboard failure that gives off problems.
The following doesn't work;
Flash on rear camera
Bluetooth won't connect
Home and back buttons on lcd do not light up
Now at first glance this could be rather confusing but I had a parts phone months ago and I changed the secondary motherboard because the headphone jack wore out and it's built in on this model. All the problems listed above resolved themselves. I was thrilled
Fast forward six months later and I'm back in the same boat. so it's either order another parts phone at around $50 or get a new board from Shenzhen for $25
It's not really a big issue to me as I love this phone and plan to keep it for many years to come it just seems odd it would happen again so quickly. I'm curious if anyone has seen this issue before as I would think it must be common and I just luckily found the fix. I am running viper4fx and it's juiced up all the way (I love my music) but I have yet to have any audio issues so I doubt that would be the culprit.
I tried wiping and reinstalling os and such so I highly doubt it's software.

touch screen "kinda" failure?

well i have an odd problem, one one section of my screen doesn't pick up touches, only the area where the "C" is on the keyboard...its annoying due to thats where the OK buttons are...
i can still navigate sense i can use the track ball..
anyone else have this issue, or something similar?
Try wiping back to factory if stock or reflash the rom if rooted?
I had a weird issue with the touch screen on condemned 18.3 where on the lockscreen trying to drawdown the slider and then draw the pattern, it would freak out and glitch and not follow my finger at all and take several tries to get the pattern correct.
I then wiped and flashed the latest 4.0 GSB and haven't had any issues since.
That's not quite a touch screen failure as yours is, but I thought it would help as an example as something gone wrong and how I was able to remedy it.
i've tried flashing a few different roms, went from cs18.3 to a 2.1 sense rom, back to the latest gsb. it appears its must be a problem with the digitizer...
really sucks, i have to wait to april to upgrade this phone...
might be on craigslist looking for a cheap droid 1...
Ah man, that's unfortunate. Probably wouldn't be worth it to try to replace the screen/digitizer either. Yeah, that's probably your best bet, looking to get another phone. That's how I got my Eris, from craigslist. Great way to go about doing so.
Good luck to ya.
I actually have the same problem and something leads me to believe that an update is causing this. I had it bad a few weeks ago (can't press C, V or X - though I can swipe to the keys sometimes) and then I got a few market updates for Handcent, SuperUser, and something else which then cleared it up for a few days. Then I got more updates and it's back to the failing keyboard!
I really don't know how to pin point it and I haven't done any resetting or testing yet, but I have like gut feeling something is wrong with the software, not the touchscreen since someone else is having this problem.
Mine has been failing little by little. Im now down to the top right corner, bottom left, and bottom middle not responding. It hard to even get the apps drawer to open. It all started with the letter C with me too. Just gets worse.
****, my whole qwerty row doesn't work, neither does the trackball. Upgraded to a SGS2, but I still tinker with the ol' eris.
mine moved, it started working fine for a few days, then just a smaller section to the left of C doesn't work, only really effects when i have an "OK" to press...but track ball still works and typing is so much easier now.
my wife thinks its because i dropped my phone that it started working again
I know this thread is a couple of months old, but...
There's an area on mine at the top right below the notification pull-down that appears to be dead. I'm thinking it's because I've dropped it about 10 times, but nothing looks wrong with the screen otherwise. I've thought about buying a replacement screen for about 15 bucks, but I'll be able to upgrade at the end of March, so I'm really just thinking about holding off (though if the new screen/digitizer worked, it'd make for a good mp3 player with the wifi script).
Digitizer is going bad. Same exact problem happened to mine. I replaced it myself and it works perfect. I found how to videos on youtube and bought a digitizer for about $37 online. Only took a half hour to tear apart and replace. On the difficulty level, I'd give it a 6 or 7.

YMMV.
Someone gave me an Eris that had digitizer problems along the lower left side of the screen (in portrait orientation). I bought a replacement digitizer ($22 iirc), installed it, and it worked perfectly - for about the first 30 minutes. Then, the problem re-appeared in exactly the same location with the new digitizer.
Same behavior for a variety of stock or developer ROMs, so highly doubtful that it was a "software problem". Very very odd - the chip that does the capacitive sensing is on the flex circuit attached to the digitizer, so it gets replaced when you replace the digitizer; I suppose that the signals that come off the mini-connector between the digitizer assembly and the phone's mobo are only power, ground, and I2C signals.
But there you go; taken all those observations together, I'd suspect that I had a problem on the phone's motherboard which was thermally dependent.
Despite my (negative) experience, the odds are still in favor that a digitizer replacement will fix the problem; but there is an outside chance that it won't.
just sayin',

My Rezound is kinda wonky.

So, chief among the many issues I have with this phone is the fact that it will no longer recognize or mount it's own internal SD card aka "sdcard0" in recovery or in the OS. I have wiped the system, I have changed my ROM, I have changed my recovery. I don't want to accept that thing is just broken, but I am starting to lean that way. If anyone has any advice, I would greatly appreciate it.
My accelerometer stopped working and just gave up. Going for the HTC One when it comes to Verizon.
I would love a HTC One

Really I would love any good phone from the S3 to current but I have been for the last year completely broke, and my avenues for replacing it with something different are non existant. My device is probably just a lemon, but there isn't anything I can do and I don't have the $100 dollars Verizone want's so I can replace it with my insuarance.
Problems: I dropped it ONCE and the digitizer cracked, when I replaced it i cleaned it very well and was extra careful, but after a few days dust started to leak in between the LCD and the digitizer and I can't get it out or even figure out how it leaked in. Now the screen touches itself all the time and there isn't anything I can do. The battery was the worst I have ever had, both the original and the replacement and the extended battery isn't much better but it does double the thickness of the phone. It is slow with any ROM I use and for the past couple months it refuses to recognize its own internal SDcard. The extended battery feels like a backpack attached to my phone and I still have to carry a USB cord everywhere I go to charge it and I'm constantly cleaning the screen to try and get it to stop touching it's self.
I tried begging for someones old S3 or comparable older phone on another forum, even offered to trade stuff even though I don't have much but my post was ridiculed mercilessly and then deleted. Now I'm just trying to make do.

Quite a predicament. I hope someone can help you out. I only have my rezound right now, unless you want an EnV Touch.

I feel the same way, so many good phones coming out and i refuse to loose my unlimited data plan. I am putting all my eggs in the Moto X basket right now. I had the original Droid X and it was an excelent phone, hell my gf still uses it as an e-reader. If the Moto X turns out to be a sub $300 phone off contract I'm gonna sell stuff until i can afford it.

[Q] No audio from headphone jack or loudspeaker. Only earpiece makes sound

Rooted s-on amaze No audio from loudspeaker or headphone jack. Only earpiece or bluetooth make sound. Phone just went for warranty a month ago and they said they replaced the motherboard. Now I a couple weeks out of warranty and they are telling me tough luck. Lucky me... What could cause this? I have tried several different firmwares, kernels including going back to stock. No change.
Doesn't look like a common issue. I can't find any info on this that helped at all. Please help.
Just going out on a limb here, the phone's already been repaired at least once--I would suspect a bad component.

Seems like a logical diagnosis to me too. It could be anything from a bad headphone jack or speaker to a failed board component. The fact that you've had it serviced before for the same issue suggests it wasn't properly repaired the first time. Sorry, but this doesn't sound like a software issue.
Thank you for quick reply. Guess its tough s*** for me
Symptoms--did it just stop out of nowhere, or did you install something and it stopped? If it just stopped out of nowhere, go fishing around in the phone, see if there's some kinda loose cable or if the earplug assembly is loose or something. Much of troubleshooting is just discovery. Amaze are pretty affordable if you have to replace it--check craigslist or swappa. Maybe your provider will set you up with something, doesn't even have to be Amaze for you to have functionality.
I have the very same problem and this is the first thing I've seen about it. No sound from loud speaker or headphone jack. I haven't pinpointed something I installed to make it quit working, I've tried different roms, etc to see if it would work. No luck. The sound even decides to work every couple weeks for a total of maybe a minute and it stops again. If anyone discovers a solution I'm all ears. I have no warranty, I'm on T-Mobile with a no contract plan. Thanks for any help..
I am waiting on some micro torx bits to do some exploratory diagnosis. I do have an electronics/electrical background but my skills are limited in this case to monkeying with connections and perhaps some basic metering. I will post when I have done so. i have a feeling it is likely a loose/poor connection that has caused this since it has only just come back from repair and the motherboard was supposedly replaced. However, wether or not the put a NEW board in is an unknown.
In terms sysptoms and there was no audio distortion or any signs of any thing wrong at all before. This was sudden and without warning. It was not in the middle of use of the head p. jack or the loud speaker either. I had not installed any apps for at least a few days before this happened so I am inclined to not believe it is software related.
So far I am stumped we will see what happens when I do a little surgery. If the patient dies I will go by a S3...People still want 120 bucks here for their amazes. Thanks all for input.
To @the jew hunterhunter--your troubleshooting skills are similar to mine--poke around--and then some. Poking is especially is especially handy when the problems are physical.
Clever "replaced but don't know if it was new."
Good luck in your investigation.
I know the headphone jack itself can be problematic, something in the design that can allow just a tiny displacement of the plug to result in disconnection, don't know if purchasable replacements are better or not, however that is probably completely unrelated to your sound issues. Yet..., I would look at that component first.
I am glad you will post results.
To @marshallrounds, you can see from this thread that it is probably hardware, as no one else has found or mentioned any software-caused issues or fixes.
no workie
So i tried to goof with it but there was nothing I could do with my limited poking and hoping skills. Must be a bad component or some microcode glitch. Out of my hands so I bought a used nexus 4 for 190$ MUCH HAPPIER NOW nexus 4 makes the amaze look like a bad joke. Thanks to amaze ppl out there for everything tho!:good:

ATT HTC M9 quality control

Not by any means starting a thread to talk trash about HTC, ATT or the m9 in general.. just sharing my situation with my m9's over the past two weeks sense purchase
A few issues I have seen with atleast two of the four units I have had over the past few weeks from the same ATT store
First I should note I am not anal by any means, not picky and have owned several phones from ATT and HTC including the m7 and m8. Never returned any of my purchased phones for any reason over the past few years, maybe luck but I dunno.
I originally purchased the gunmetal Grey m9 about ten days ago, love it in every sense of the word, huge HTC fan and i could honesty say I found no issues other then a weird buzzing sound when on the phone via normal speaker not speaker phone. Only when the other party was talking and only when on highest volume or the step below highest. Didn't pay to much attention in the first few days of owning the phone but as time went on I noticed it more and it was very distracting.
The second issue I noticed every couple hours was the power button not waking the phone on the first attempt. Not a huge issue and possibly even software related but about 5-10 attempts a day it would fail to wake first try.
Returned first unit for matching gunmetal second unit. Buzzing gone and wake issue gone.
Second unit had taken me till I got home to realize the USB port looked odd. When plugging in the charger I literally had to jam it in and it take a huge amount of force to pull out, almost as if the USB port and body of the phone didn't line up.
Returned it for another matching gunmetal version or unit 3
Unit three had the USB port issue fixed but once again returning home I realized the buzzing during voice calls when the other party spoke, and sure enough the power button wake issue returned.
Today I decided to give it one more try before my 14 day att return period for in store was up.
Swapped out unit 3 with a silver m9 or unit 4
After testing all day I can say this unit so far doesn't have any issues worth noting.
Buzzing in call gone, wake issue gone, display looks a little brighter as well
So it had taken me 4 devices to finally nail down one without any major issues.. again not talking crap about HTC or ATT just throwing out some of the issues I ran into and maybe someone else might as well..

I opted for the gunmetal.
Sent from my HTC One M9 using Tapatalk
I received mine on Friday. Internal speaker volume seems to be stuck on high. While the sound is terrible, very distorted. Will have my.replacement Monday Or Tuesday.
Gun Metal Grey here.
Only issue I have ever which is nitpicky but still, my contact photos load extremely slow. Constantly seeing grey boxes. Didn't happen on my Nexus 5 or LG G3.
Got the gunmetal one at the att store. I am extremely picky and have had m7 and m8. I tried to find something wrong with my m9 but it is perfect in every way. Used it 3 days to make sure everything was perfect, now unlocked, soff, converted to developer edition. Couldn't be happier, even with the camera.
My fourth unit has been perfect .. I do hope the 5.1 update HTC uses the kernel changes google made with no hotplugging. Made the n6 really smooth which it wasn't kn 5.0.. m9 is very smooth but I see a few stutters and keyboard lag that I'm sure will get fixed on the 5.1 update..
It is a nice phone!

I use these at work with my phone in my pocket. I have tried front pockets and back. I don't know if the sensor is too dark or its too tight in there (pants/shorts are not tight) or what. If the phone is out of my pocket it works fine 98% of the time. Just today i had it being choppy even when the phone was in my hand. I have also tried using it without the small, slim silicone phone case but with the same results.
I haven't seen much online with the same issues and i don't want to return this phone to get yet another ****ty phone or refurbished one.
Anyone have any ideas?
nobody has had this issue?
I have this issue its a royal pain. I assumed its because the battery is dying but that is not the case. I got so annoyed I had to use ancient methods and plug in a wire between both devices . felt so weird but did the job .
Same problem here
I was having the same problem with my LG Tones Ultras, I was still within my 14 day return with tmobile so i they swapped it and problem is gone. I suggest you get a hold of warranty since still within a year and see if they will sent you a device. Hope this helps. good luck.
thought about it but i dont really want a refurbed one
To add to my earlier post about this issue i simply rebooted my phone just to try and that seems to have resolved the problem. I thought of it since i never have any reason to turn off my device .

Typically when I have BT issues like cut outs and random pop/clicks while listening to audio a reboot is what is needed. Not sure why that solves the problem but when it gets bad that is my only solution and it usually works 100% of the time.
Yes, I've experienced this with my LG HBS-760 headset (which, by the way, worked perfectly with the G4). A reboot typically solves the problem, but only temporarily. I'm very unhappy with this phone, for that reason and also the horrible battery life and the gimmicky/mostly useless second screen. I wish I had kept my G4.
