Still worth change from p9 to G5 - LG G5 Questions & Answers

Hi, I have a chance to change from a p9(5months) to a lg g5(2weeks) old. Is it a real upgrade?. Im only scared about the battery life, all the rest is equal and some points better
Enviado do meu EVA-L09 através de Tapatalk

I've had my G5 since Oct and coming from a Z3 this phone isn't worth the change from the Huawei. Put simply, the G5 camera set up is absolutely top notch but the rest of the phone is very average; the battery life is abysmal to the point where I am pondering if they replace the phone already (I always keep phones for 18 months to 2 years).

The camera is unique but all the rest as you said, don't have the same quality and battery is even worst. Thanks

Well.. Here it goes.
-the build quality is better on P9.
-You can change battery on the G5 easily, but P9 has bigger one (and my bat lasts 3h SOT when playing vainglory, no games 4to5 easily with 4g and adguard on all the time)
-SD 820 has better graphics and the performance on g5 is great
-Camera is good on both of them, lg has wide angle lens..
-screen is 2k on G5 but 1080p is great on p9

The only problem I see is the battery, you have more Sot compared with my p9. Do you use stock g5 rom?

Yes, i'm on v20c, no root.. How about P9, ho many sot?

For whatever reason I'm struggling to get more than 2 and bit hours of SoT over a 14 hour period; with only a small amount of gaming (5-10 mins) which is just intolerable. I've got two batteries, the newest of which is only 2 months old but there's no discernible difference between them. I have wasted weeks trying to hunt down the cause of the drain but I'm giving up. I sincerely doubt this phone will last the 2 years that I had expected...

mate 8 or lg v10???

hey guys ,
should i go for the lg v10 or the mate 8 ???
both has large screens
but i saw on videos that the mate 8 beats the lg v10 in the performance
the camera of lg v10 is better and the interface is better
the mate 8 is more expensive than the lg v10 in my country
i really like the second screen and the design of the lg v10
the mate 8 has 4000 mah to 3000 mah for the lg v10
should i pay more to for the mate 8 fro the extra battery and performance ?? or get the lg v10 ?? or the new released oneplus 3 LOL :laugh::laugh:
I have not tried the mate 8, and can only comment on the v10, which I have.
-I would not worry about performance issues with the v10. It's very good for real world application, even if it does not benchmark as well as some of the competition
-The 3000 mah battery on the v10 is on the low side. On most days the battery barely makes it through the day for me. On days I'm out of the office for extended periods of time, I generally carry a spare battery. But the nice thing is that the battery is replaceable, unlike the mate 8, I think.
-The v10 is very good for media: music, videos, camera

The V10 is optimized very well by LG. Everyday use and speed is on par with the current sd820 flagships. Sound quality is the best I've ever heard on a mobile device. I have to confirm the previous comment regarding the battery. I also carry a spare battery with me, which i charge using a cradle. The advantage of a cradle is, you can charge the empty battery while on the road using a power bank, its charging time is less than the SOT of the V10. So when your V10 runs out of juice, you will always have a full battery ready. Btw, the LG cradle also supports quickcharge 2.0
Another advantage of a cradle: it's better for the battery, because if you charge the phone while using it, it's detrimental for the overall battery health.
ithink i will go for the lg v10 and save the extra money to buy a cradle
Mate 8 will kill lg v10 in bat. performance...speed performance doesn't matter, it's like should I got on Porsche or Ferrari...LG cam is better...If you gonna stick you mobile phone for longer period of time go for LG...(removable battery), and it's more ''original''...
mate 8 is extremely fast it has fantastic performance
great battery
good display
fantastic fingerprint
great design
good sound from speaker way better than v10
but camera is really ****
i s old it because off the bad camera
focus is ****
low light quality is **** . indoor quality is ****
even in daylight all photos has soft details
soft is fast and smooth but its design is really boring

I agree, but at least it's an issue you can solve. If a phone has a bad camera, thats it. You're stuck. If it has bad audio, you're stuck.

How is bettery life really like on this phone?

I'm almost decided on this phone but battery life is probably the most important thing for me and I'm finding completely different test results. Some say it shows the small battery size, others say it's unbelievably good probably due to a less power CPU and smaller lower resolution screen. A youtube reviewer even claims he gets about the same battery life on the X as on his S7 Edge. Video playback seems to be the week point here but I don't watch many videos on my phones, just the ocasional youtube clip.
There doesn't seem to be a lot of people owning this phone so I can't find much information from a regular user perspective. So how has battery life been for you? At least as good as the old Z2 or Z3?

I'm easily getting 4.5hrs+ screen time on my xa I know it's a different specc'd device but I think they've done a good job with the hardware+software optimization on the x range of device's. I don't see why the x should be any worse

It should actually be better and that's what I'm having a hard time believing. Your numbers do match up with the expect numbers considering the diferences between models. Maybe it's the Qnovo Adaptive Charging, they claim that makes the battery have a better charge time and lifespan
It is very good compared to my previous M5. They have done amazing job with this phone. If you look at the specs for X Performance, you will realize that Sony have removed the "2 days battery life" claim from that phone, most likely because of the processor bump.
I am able to watch offline youtube for close to 4 hours on this phone. Waze is another matter.

I know the x has a slightly bigger battery but compared to my previous Xperia the m2 which had a almost identical size battery yet smaller screen and alot less power I'm impressed with the xa's battery performance and stand by drain. I know you can't really accurately compare a two year old device with a new one but I'm still impressed the x can't be that bad

Battery life is good for me, I get 1-2 days out of it, for one full day it's always more then enough. My old Z5 compact was still a wee bit better though.

Heavy use endurance

Playing Candy Crush for 22 hours straight can take its toll on your battery (and your marriage). Rate this thread to express how the LG G6's battery performs under heavy use. A higher rating indicates that it lasts a long time even when playing games, streaming video and audio, and doing other CPU-intensive activities.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Played a lot of games and apps at same time without closing them, and even dual windows some stuff. Phone seems unphased at all, other than a little heat which is to be expected due to so much running, but it ran like a PC. No lag, no hiccups, no problems. I also had the screen brightness set to 79% so that may also be a factor.
Day 1, 1st Full Charge, heavy usage especially from the morning till midday.
thanks for the pic
After 1st charge to 100%, day started at 7AM and was at 5% by 8PM. The day consisted of about 4 hours of video streaming, 2 hours of Pandora, and about 20-30 minutes checking facebook/instagram.
2nd day, 100% started at 6AM and it's currently at 60% at 1:35PM. About 45 minutes checking facebook/instagram, 1 hour streaming video and 1 hour reading manga.
Both days have location services and Wi-Fi on, Screen always on setting turned off, and auto brightness.

Brightness is set to Auto which seems plenty good enough for all situations IMO.
Battery is at 5% time for a recharge. Final usage attached, 19hrs uptime with almost 6 hours SOT with no power saving of any kind.

No adjustments at all Jeremiah. I did push the auto brightness up an extra 5%. Coming from a S6 this screen needed the extra brightness when I'm sunlight.
Wi-Fi is on all day and Bluetooth for most of the day as I have a Gear S2 Classic connected to the phone.
My S6 could get me 19hrs uptime but the SOT wpuld be like 2hrs maybe 2.5hrs
Light usage should easily get me 2 days on the G6.

2,073,600 pixel screen vs 3,686,400 pixel screen. Manipulating almost twice as many screen elements takes more power. If a razor sharp screen isn't important to you, you'll almost always do better with regard to battery life with a phone with lower resolution.

This is an over generalization. Here is one conclusion based on actual testing;
--
AMOLED screens at 100% APL (pure white screens) are more inefficient than LCD screens. For every other situation, they are more efficient, as they can be selectively lit.
--
And as each pixel draws current (when it's not black), it's not surprising that the One Plus 3 is using 1080p. Fewer pixels means less power consumption. And better contrast means better readability in situations where LCD users would need to boost overall screen brightness for the same readability.

Best rom for battery life or in general? I don't know whats the best but it looks EUI is a good election for battery, and you have Small EUI rom that improve the duration, but I don't like it, is very poor configurable. I tested several roms and I like Resurrection Remix, but I'm not happy with battery life, I´m trying configurate it.

upgrading to Poco f1

A little off topic but any inputs on upgrading from le max 2 to poco f1. I mean is it really an upgrade considering the FHD+ screen. Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks
Well, only the SD845 should be a big upgrade, consider as well the normal working fingerprint scanner, IR face unlock, stereo speakers, much bigger battery, and more. I would not even think too much.
Yep, seems like the natural upgrade. Though I'm still more than happy with my Max2. It's blazing fast enough, great camera, loads of Pie roms,
I dunno, poco have some display problems..
I did the upgrade recently, so I could share at least what was driving me to do the upgrade.
For about 18 or maybe more months I was owning X820 and ever since I have tried only few Roms. My final choice was RR.
It was more than enough for my day to day use, camera was excellent. Why I did the change :
1) Battery life - even do I have 20000mah power bank with QC 3.0, battery did not last a day even with light to moderate usage.
2) Got used to it and wanted a new toy.
Already use a Poco F1 for about a month (bought in on announcement day in Europe, originally from Spain).
Battery life is overwhelming compared to X820. It's a bit faster, but nothing that really affects the experience with the old X820.
Stock rom is much better than X820, but this one is easily fixable.
Downsides :
Android Auto does not work in current Poco F1 stock rom
Camera seems to be about average, daily pictures on X820 are better (good light conditions).
Overall it's a good phone, so if you want a change and think where to spend 300E go for it.
I like poco too, but it has lte bands locked for my country

If it's new, then jump on it. I've enjoyed mine for about 18. Personally I'm gonna hold on to mine for a while yet.
I just placed the order, it costs 124$ for 64/4 x821, i hope it is not refubrished.
@onewithforce I have one question, can you see the notifications on status bar? Like WhatsApp or viber.
And about battery percent, can you see in status bar?
That big notch with lose of this functionality is the only thing that scares me :-/

Notifications are highly customizeable. Percentage can be seen in notification bar, it's not important feature for me and haven't checked if it can be enabled for home and locked screen.
Notch is fine, quickly get used to it.
Btw, Android Auto does not work properly, we have to wait for next release and have fingers crossed it would be solved.
