Battery drain - Samsung Galaxy Alpha

Hello guys, i had some serious battery drain issues. I tried installing different roms with different Android versions but problem persists thru all of them. I seemed to have had best results with unofficial roms like OzcanRom. Now i got LineAge OS installed because android 5 is too outdated by today standards i miss allot apps. I will include BBS log as ive got no idea what to look for over :crying: there and i hope some of you guys can help me
I posted BBS log in paste bin as i didnt know how to make it work here. Here is the link: pastebin.com/AXJ9sz2g
Due to spam protection it didn't alow me to paste normal link but this will do just as good of a job
Im getting about 9hrs of stand by time with 1 hour of SOT.

Update
So after experiencing few more bugs with LineageOS i decided to revert back to OzcanRom and tweak it myself. I applied some tweaks with custom kelner, eliminated all wakelocks and background drains. Now i have around 13hrs on battery and 3hrs of SOT and now i dont have to carry 10000MAH external battery with me. If someone wants me to write in detail what ive done post reply or PM me

I would love to know that, just got a Galaxy Alpha at I plan to apply custom kernel and ROM, so which tweaks to use would be very helpful

Hi. Could you please tell me what to do to stop battery drain?

Hi,
I'd follow this guide and install the overclocker widget. It bascially slows your cpu right down whilst your phone is on sleep. Made a BuGE difference to my phone.
Guide - hxxp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=628178
The reason for the battery life is a bug in DMAgent. There's a fix available that's designed for VillainROM 3.2, so if you upgrade to that and then appy the fix listed in this wiki page: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=VillainRom3.2Fixes that'll solve your problem

try Defiance rom as it has battery fix included. few of us are testing to see how long battery does last and if its actually this dmagent thing causing the drain issues. so far so good after 7 hrs

[Q] % of total battery usage - display is way to high

Hi guys sorry for this thread new here so please go easy on me. Had a galaxy s2 for a few weeks now and i have to say best phone ever. Did the normal rooting and flashing roms and i have noticed recently that my battery has been going down quite a lot after a few hours. I tried roms like Villainrom, Cognition, Batista and etc which i find them very good but on my battery stats it says that i have high display usage and the percentage is like 56 - 85 and sometimes goes and stays to 91. i have since then when back to 2.3.3 stock firmware rooted it as well and i only have display percentage of only 25% which i think is normal and my battery lasts longer. I have spoken to Samsung regarding this situation and they are sending me a new battery but im just wondering why i cant flash a custom rom without having to worry about the high display % and what can i do to fix it? do i have to give it a few days for the battery to settle on the rom or shall i just stay with the stock rom for now till i get my new battery and then try to flash? sorry for the long essay i just need to find out if any one else had the same problem as i really like to use a custom rom that my normal one.
THanks
I too find it very hard on the battery with all the custom roms that I have tried out. I tried, Villain, Cogniton, LeoMar, Batista, etc..etc..etc. I have in fact tried out all the ROMs out here. Tried even different combinations of Kernel, but all only lead to the frustration when it comes to battery life. I finally tried MIUI ROM and I can say that it is giving me very good battery life compared to other ROMs.
It is interesting to note from you that the STOCK ROM has given you better battery life. Could you please tell me how long did your battery last in Stock ROM and what are the Apps that were running in it?
Install Better Battery Stats, I don't think anything wrong with the battery.
See under Wakelocks what apps/processes are going in background and causing the drain. Then take necessary steps with TB Pro.

to xdadeveloporian: thanks for your reply bk and sorry to hear that you had the same issues. like i said above i am very new to all this so apologies if i am replying with noobish comments. with wifi on and the normal widgets i had a battery life over a day. only charged it once and it still going. is that rom that you using now good?
and to ithappy sorry what do you mean by your reply i do not understand sorry. and do you guys think with a new battery it will fix my problems and i will be able to flash roms or do i have a faulty phone?
% is not important, what really matters is total time on for the display. Are you sure it isn't that the stock ROM burns more power in other areas, so the display is less? Or maybe the brightness is different? I'm not even sure how the display proportion of battery drain is apportioned - is there really a current sense integrator?
now that i have the stock rom with firmware 2.3.3 display is 30% followed by android os 15 - 19% which i think is normal into regards were i was on customs roms and the os was 15% and display 50% and over. brightness is basically at the lowest i can put it i am using touchwiz launcher and i only have two pages with widgets and nothing else. just a bit confusing thats all. i mean with custom roms the battery should be alot better not the other way round if you get me.
apologies if im not making any sense here. thanks again for all your replies it does help

I don't believe that stuff, why battery life would be better in a Custom ROM, because they added/modified some stuffs, nah. You can make a Stock ROM custom with some little modifications if you are rooted and have great apps like Root Explorer, Titanium Backup etc. I, for me, will never ever use a Custom ROM. But that's just me, don't take it any personally.
And about battery, don't see that how long are you getting with it, like- 1 day, 2 days, they don't make any sense, just keep an eye on the 'Screen On' time, if that is around or above 5 hours then you are very fine. And also keep checking that your Awake and Screen On bar is synchronized or not, if it is not then you must have something going on background, like- Latitude, Email exchange etc. which you can see under Better Battery Stats. And also, when not needed turn off, 3G, Packet Data, WiFi, Auto Sync, Background Sync and check how many apps are on Auto Sync, if not needed then modify it to Manual Sync.
Regards.

Maybe they fixed some bugs - specifically a custom kernel might have improvements or bug fixes (since there is lots of work going on here from many companies making contributions). This takes time to filter through to the official ROMs.
Maybe they removed some of the stock apps which contribute (maybe only slightly) to power drain.
Maybe the small differences in the ROM mean that existing bugs are less likely to have an impact, so even not fixing the bug it seems to have gone away.
Custom ROMs are as likely to make things worse - but if many people are affected then it is likely that someone will track down the reason.
Look all i know is that as soon as i started flashing custom roms on my phone my battery life has been going down like hell. Checking battery stats the most thing that is taking up battery life is the display being as high as 80 even 90 percent. I am not a expert on android having had an iphone all my life so when people say underclocking and other stuff its like new things to me so i do apologise for being such a noob. i do love my galaxy and i think its the best phone out there at the moment. all i need to know is if there is something that i can do to bring the display down and not to have it drain so much out of the battery..
Thanks again for everyone for replying
very niceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
huh? has anyone else experience high display usage on their phones when checking battery stats?

Massive screen-off battery drain with all ROMs

Hello everybody,
about two months ago, I had an issue with my installed ROM on my Redmi Note 2 Prime (I think it was this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-2/orig-development/rom-cyanogenmod-12-1-t3288916 ). I decided to try out another ROM so I installled Bule's Mokee ROM ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/red...nt/rom-cm-12-1-mokee-bule-mokee-blue-t3328382 ). After a few days with this ROM I recognized a big battery drain while screen off so I installed BetterBatteryStats to get some more informations. It told me that about 50-75% of the time my CPU was running at 800mhz instead of deepsleep (at a normal day with about 1-2h of Screen-On-Time). It didn't look to me like something is creating a wakelock though (but maybe I am just unable to see this). I tried the next ROM: Daniel Pinto's CM12.1 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-2/development/rom-unofficial-t3310551) and again the same issue! I tried a full wipe of my internal storage, did not install xposed and did not install any titanium backup. The battery drain didn't go away. So i flashed another ROM: SlimMIUI V7.1.3.0 ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-2/development/rom-slimmiui-dev-stable-t3296594 ) and suddenly there was no more screen off battery drain! This went well for about three weeks and now I am facing the old problem again! Please tell me what I am doing wrong since I don't believe it's a ROM-related issue.
I installed these apps (according to MIUI):
9gag
AdAway
Android System WebView
Antutu 3DBench
Antutu Benchmark
AquaMail
BetterBatteryStats
BikeComputer
Burning Series
Chrome
DB Navigator
Dropbox
ES Datei Explorer
Google Play Store
Google Play-Dienste
Google-Tastatur
Greenify (wasn't installed before SlimMIUI)
GuitarTuna
Hacker's Keyboard
Hearthstone
irplus
Maps
Messenger
MX Player
mydealz
No-Frills CPU Control
Nova Launcher
Open Camera
PaderSprinter
QuickPic
scondoo
SleepTimer
Spotify
SuperSU
Telegram
TeslaUnread
Titanium Backup
Twitch
Unified Remote Control
Wakelock Detector Free
WhatsApp
Youtube
What I have tried so far:
- changing ROM (clean flash)
- not installing xposed
- not using old backups
- changing the battery
- using airplane mode
Also, I wonder why there are these gaps in the battery history since I didn't reboot yesterday...but these gaps don't appear every day.
Please help me to fix this really annoying problem and make my RN2 great again!
Thanks,
Kooneybert
The biggest drain comes from all the Xiaomi bloat. Read this thread for details on how to reduce the bloat. In my experience, the second main culprit is WhatsApp. I've had to stop it from giving sound notifications (or even vibrating) when messages come in. Now, I have between 90%-95% deep sleep on idle. Basically, anything that turns on audio could be a problem, because sometimes audio doesn't go off afterwards.
You might want to try GSAM Battery Monitor for more information about what is eating up your battery.

Thx for your reply! The problem is not MIUI-exclusive. CM 12.1 from Daniel Pinto is pretty slim but gave the same result (from the first day on).
Whatsapp can't be the only problem since all my friends use it and nobody have this problem (some of them also even have a RN2). Also, my phone is in silent mode almost all the time so no app is allowed to make noise or vibrate.
I just installed GSAM Battery Monitor but I don't know how to use the app/read the provided data. I could use some help there, too.

You can only be sure if you have a really skinny ROM whereby all the unnecessary Xiaomi stuff has been removed. There are all sorts of things going on in the background - including things embedded in the boot image.
There are also possibly optimisation issues with the kernel. All the ROMs seem to depend on the same binary kernels, since there is no GPL release of the kernel source code. You might want to try one of the skinny boot images by @jajk
As for GSAM, the best to learn is by trial and error (tip: tap on everything visible to see where it leads to, and what information it gives you).

...on all three ROMs? Only for me? With this effect? On some days, it reduces my battery by 50-80%! Hard to believe it is not a bug. Also, SlimMIUI has reduced Xiaomi-Stuff, Daniel Pinto's CM 12.1 looked even more clean to me.

Aren't there different kernels out there for the RN2? Bule's Mokee-ROM uses a modified kernel e.g. Does every ROM come with a certain kernel or may it be applied from the ROM before? So maybe I am still using the kernel from Bule's Rom with my MIUI?

This will help me to read the information but it won't help to understand them, too. What do you think about this:
Kernels: You can't compile a custom kernel without the Xiaomi kernel source code. All you are left with is tinkering with ramdisk in the boot image

...is this normal? The Kernel is the biggest battery sucker on my tablet aswell (which still has great battery). What do you think about the 8,5h of wakelock time produced by the kernel? If this is the problem, what can I do to solve it?

A "screen awake" of approximately 50% seems to me to be highly excessive (at least, if the phone was mostly idle). In nearly 12 hours, I have a screen awake of 55 minutes - so 8 hours in 15 hours seems strange. How exactly were you using your phone during this 15 hour period?
Perhaps the custom boot images by @jajk might help (see the first link in http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-2/general/roll-skinny-miui-t3309873). I am currently on v714-15 of the custom boot image.
Sounds like you may be having issues similar to what I was dealing with not too long ago, but my 'solution' was to install Bule's Mokee (still don't know why this ROM worked where so many others failed). Daniel's CM 12.1 and Xiaomi.eu were both giving me significant drain with and without the screen on to the point where I was sometimes finishing the day with an hour and a half of screen on time and ~20% battery. Now I'm getting up to double that.
One thing I can recommend is using MiFlash/Fastboot to do a total reset from scratch. Didn't really work for me, but you may be different.
Other than that, although it's tedious, you may have to install 1-3 apps per day after a fresh install to see if your battery holds at first and then dies sometime after installing certain culprits. It takes forever, but at least this helped me when I moved to Mokee to make sure that it wasn't any of my 'vital' apps that were causing me issues.
Best of luck!
Funny thing that the Mokee-Rom did SOLVE your problem. In my eyes this Rom was the beginning of my problems.

What is the difference to using TWRP?
I will try the Mokee-Rom tomorrow. Since I never used MiFlash/Fastboot before I won't use it until you tell me that there is a difference compared to doing a full wipe with TWRP.
I tried flashing the Mokee-Rom again but the problems go on. I installed very few apps and the battery is still very bad. Today I had 18 minutes of SOT and though I lost 14% in a few hours. This time it was caused by Whatsapp:
It always seems that some apps just don't like to stop doing something but it's random which app is the problem.
I am totally running out of ideas so please help me guys!
I'm on Mokee and satisfied with battery, this rom have less problems than other (for me). First of all i have installed MobileRadioActiveFix with xposed, then SmartNetwork to turn off wifi while my screen is off. I've got few other things but right now i've got over 4h SOT so it is not bad score.
i have the same problem! it happens with flashing severals ROMs (mokee by bule?) and starts battery drain with all ROM, it never goes... is not the battery, the cable or the rom..... i dont know im disperate... the sot changed from 4-4.5 h to 2-2.5 h... with all ROM, please help us and sorry for my bad english
Well i had situation that my SOT suddenly got down but i was still on march rom. After update to latest version without wipe it is ok right now.
Have you tried with wiping all with internal memory? Maybe something is there still and that is making a problem.
Another thing that came to my mind: have you changed build.prop and have copy of it? If so, delete it. I had some problems becuase of that.

every rom i have flashed was a clean install (full wipe of internal) after latest miui update, when the phone shut down at 0%, i put off the battery for 10 min, after i put back and the phone was at 19%!! now is on charge... maybe the problem is solved.. i will post if it is solved (sorry for my bad english)
I had that problem with earlier phone and it drived me crazy. I was not able to find what was the cause unfortunatelly. Phone was given to service point to install branded rom (it was not available for public). Right now i do not have problems like that, if i have some i'm able to find solution somehow. Although what i wrote helped me when i saw SOT problem.

Not that I know of. I`m facing the same issues like you here.
You can try:
-discharging until the phone shuts off
-charge it in OFF mode until its full
-disconnect charger, put battery out and in again
-connect charger, charge it to 100% again...
repeat until it shows 100% when connecting the charger.
For some ppl this seems to work.
Please let me know if you find out something!
There are lots of ppl out there with exact the same issue!
BR
EDIT: Installed PSYROM V3 for testing purpose right now. Lets see how it does with skynet and a freshly calibrated Battery with the internal calibration tool of the rom. I`ll give feedback on monday.
Update to my issue:
-I did a full wipe (including internal memory)
-Installed PSY ROM V3.0 and Skynet
-Wiped cache/dalvic
-Startet the phone, installed my apps etc
-Charged it to 100%, waited 20 more minutes
-Did the Battery calibration with the internal calibration tool (everything is described in psy mans thread)
-Did a reboot
So far there is no Battery Drain, after the (long) reboot, wich took around 5-10min because miui is optimizing apps etc the phone came up with 97% and stayed there for almost an hour now.
I´ll give you guys feedback next week. Hopefully we get this sorted out.
You can try Angels & demons ROM v8.0 it is providing me with great battery life, so much better than stock or stable version of MIUI. I use Gsam battery monitor, and I have not faced that issue so far.

Not sure about video tutorials, but there are multiple guides available here in xda to repartition your phone to increase system partition size and to be able to flash any rom
U can follow this guide if you prefer using pc, it's easier for me as well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...vatives/mod-increase-partition-size-t3011162/
Or this tool made by lanchon for non pc users:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software-hacking/tool-lanchon-repit-data-sparing-t3358036/
I believe there is a video guide somewhere, you can try googling, and you may find It.

Battery depends on how you use the device more than it does on what ROM you're using. It's all in how you use it.

well, as i told you it depends on usage, i uninstalled Facebook and i used lite instead, but after all i don't actually reach 3 hours on lineageOS 14.1, but the stock rom or neat rom are the best in battery life, you also might want to try latest slimsaber kitkat build, it has great balance between performance and batterylife, i'm on AICP 12.1 build 7/2, the screen on time isn't bad but something is wrong with screen off, it drains battery, might be a wakelock issue......or if you want to stick to lineageOS, you can just relieve your mind, and buy an extended battery, because our battery isn't built to stand high system usage like in newer androids..

Custom stock-based ROM like NeatROM will make it possible to reach 3+ SOT depending your usage and hardware. Using Apolo kernel with small UV may be able to extend your battery life slightly.
Slimsaber KitKat is one of the ROMs I've tested to have comparable battery life while maintaining good performance. Anything after KitKat is slow and bloated (also heavily depends on RAM management and etc).
Wow
That helped alot bro thanks....
No problem with the battery
I'm using OFFICIAL 7.1.1 LineageOS 14.1 on my GT-i9100 with 1-6G pit.
I have done much reading about the subject and few experiments - so the following, so far, works best for me and i like it(i dont have any games nor chat apps):
I started with nano gapps and then installed ca 20 more apps.
I have a new battery "Polarcell" - i kept strictly its manufacturer instructions about first time use.
About the battery levels i'm using few methods on my rooted phone:
- "Power save" profile all the time.
- one program for apps hibernation in which i added many apps to take care of( i don't really know whether that helps ).
- In the "Kernel Adiutor" i changed on boot three options - CPU Governor "Pegasusq", I/O Sheduler "Noop" and TCP Algorithm "Reno"
- With another app i disabled "starting on boot" most of the programs which i don't see a reason to be active right after rebooting.
- I don't know whether this is relevant to you but check if google voice is using your mic all the time - i had that problem with my guitar tuner app.
- My Home screen is completely black with 160bytes png-24 little file.
- I'm trying use dark themes with all apps when possible.
- No Shadows under the text of the apps names.
Of all 7.1.1 ROMs this one(OFFICIAL 7.1.1 LineageOS 14.1) works best for me in all aspects and i'm very thankful to the LOS team.
Btw: I have tested other most popular 7.1.1 N roms and with one of them after i woke up my phone was shut down - 0% battery.
Just sharing my experience with the hope that it will help someone.

Can you provide a list of apps you use for hibernation and power saving?
Also Can you tell how much is your usage of social netoworking/internet apps? Like 2 hours 4 hours a day or all day? Does Viber/WhatsApp etc keep running and WIFI is connected all day?
Also do you use WIFI most parts of the day or 3g/4g network for data?
Can you tell how much hours a day you spend on calls and how much on SMS? E.g. 1 hour or SMS and 3 hours call each day?
What kind of battery do you use? What is the current rating of the battery?
Lastly, how many hours of screen time do you get with no calls? How many hours of usage with 2-3 hours of calls each day? How many times do you have to charge your phone with your current setup?
I am using DND on my i9100 and I want to change it. I use a double battery which I checked (via digital multimeter) that offers 16Amps (8Amp + 8Amp =16,000 mAh) but still with no usage (just receiving sms, not sending), I get only 2 days of standby time. With internet usage like Viber+whatsapp, i get maximum 6 hours which compared to available power in the battery is very less. I should be getting more time.
Can you please reply with the details in my request? Thanks

Whatever ROM it may be, I have never been able to pass more than 2 hours of screen on time.

Better Battery LIfe Help

i have spent the last few hours looking for some info regarding battery life on the mi pad 4 and am about to just throw myself out the damn window! i keep reading about issues with the kernel and custom ROMs with no fix. some users report a 2% drop with custom ROMs while others swear MIUI is better or worse.
can anyone please give a clear answer as to what to do to conserve battery life? i currently on the latest arrowos and have a 12-20% battery loss over night and dont mind switching to a different rom.

Well I don't really use my mi pad 4 often, so basically it sits there idle. I lose around 4% per 24 hour in idle using carbon rom. Not sure which xiaomi build I used for firmware /vendor.
No battery tweaks, Bluetooth /WiFi /data always on

Well, sorry dude, I have no idea!!! Just spent ages goign through my pc files - newest xiaomi.eu rom I have is xiaomi.eu_multi_MIPAD4_8.10.25_v10-8.1.zip which has a file date of 07/11/2019, but I would assume I have flashed newer than that - vendor security patch is from 5 April 20
Latest MIUI xiaomi.eu I can see is here
I think you should try out crdroid. I've been a long time user of miui, from eu website. I tried most of the custom ones, was on bliss as daily driver before i finally settled on crdroid. It's got pretty decent battery life. The miui is very clunky in comparison and not worth the extra battery life (if any). Haven't tweaked any kernel parameters on this rom and device goes 2-3 days easy before needing a recharge. I use it mostly to read, browse, occasional video, check mail and occasional whatsapp video calls. I'm pretty satisfied with the battery
