Warranty after root/unlock ? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Questions & Answers

Hi guys, quick question here.
I have bought a Redmi Note 4 , 32gb/3gb Snapdragon one.
I have these questions.
How is warranty affected after rooting our device ?
How is warranty affected by uunlocking the bootloader ?
What features won't work after unlocking the bootloader ?
What to keep in mind, to avoid problms in future , would xiaomi service centres be of any help ?
Thank you. Please answer separately for each question.

Xiaomi just like onePlus supports rooting....
So don't worry...
You can always get back your warranty by Just flashing the global stable ROM...
Also all the features will work after unlocking bootloader...
Do remember that it's you who is willing to make the changes and I'm not responsible if anything goes wrong...
Avoid rooting if you don't have adequate knowledge...

Ye, you still have the warranty but if something goes wrong , you need to flash the stock rom before going to the service center.

1) You void your warranty on rooting your device
2) Unlocking the bootloader itself doesn't void your warranty.. but the Mi Unlock tool clearly states whatever happens after the bootloader unlock (custom ROM install and stuff) is your responsibility.. so if something happens during those processes, the warranty is void..
3) according to xiaomi, things like Encryption and find my device won't properly work..
4) flash original fastboot rom and relock the bootloader if you want to take the thing to service center.. the only situation where your warranty truly is void is if you manage to brick it beyond repair, which is almost impossible to do.. (you can make a xiaomi deep flash cable (google it) to fix the device even when you can't directly boot into fastboot mode)
P.S. - i haven't done the deep flash stuff.. just posting what I learnt on the internet
---------- Post added at 07:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:44 PM ----------
As long as the technicians get the phone running unrooted stock MIUI, they won't complain..
PS - again this is according to the internet.. i have not tested this..

Nothing to worry, just do eet!

I remember the case when i bricked my galaxy S1 back in those years 2 times and I took it to the service center in india which was almost a kilometre from my house and i told the guy that it got bricked when i was charging it.. He replaced the motherboard and gave me both the times.. And told me that I probably had a loose connection at home ?.. I told him I'll get it fixed.. Thats the only device i ever bricked and that too because it was the first device i was trying to mod.. Its really tough to brick the newer devices.. But i dont know if the trick i used still works with the service centres today..

Before this i only experience root phone that has no warranty. Now with this info, it make sense. When restore the stock ROM everything goes back to normal on my old Samsung device. That mean the device is fully restore as original which mean restore the warranty as well. Thanks Guys, just got my redmi note 4 SD and will install Resurrection Remix right away.

If you are planning to install custom rom asap then you should check out the bootloader unlock guide to be prepared for your bootloader unlock.. As unlocking the bootloader can be a time taking task...

I am from KL too and going to get one Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 (SD) soon. Can you share your success on step by step ......
1. How to unlock the bootloader?
2. How to root it?
3. How to install the TWRP and also the back up too?
4. Do you need to flash the latest Firmware (Upgrade your Miui 9) before doing the RR 5.8.5 10/25 stable version?
Currently, I have installed RR on my both Galaxy S2 GT-9100 and Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N9005) >>> Beautifully thumb Up!

Welcome to Xiaomi Family..
You can just browsing in Redmi Note 4 xda section for the tutorial.
1. Unlock bootloader (the most annoying part)
2. Install Twrp via fastboot
3. Flash Rom & Magisk or anything you prefer.
4. Done, that's it...
For miui i do not backup anything since brand new n nothing to backup and dont worry about warranty. You can restore back to original version by flashing stock rom from xiaomi then you can claim for warranty with no issue, i have done it before.

can I re-gain warranty by flashing Stock Rom & Recovery ?

Hello Guys,
I'm planning to buy a Redmi Note 3. But I'm not a fan of MIUI 7. I know the warranty will be void if I rooted the device / flashed a custom recovery / custom rom.
If I flashed the Stock rom & recovery again, would I be able to claim the warranty ?
Thanks,
- yM
I think yes. Nut in order to unlock it you must apply in a form with your e mail, plus to unlock it you must have the same acc in the unlocker and the phone...

I said about just rooting and installing of custom ROM not about over clocking and all....[emoji6]
Sent from my Redmi Note 3 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Well to request warranty to fix somethings means that something is wrong with the device like a fried motherboard, a not working Bluetooth chip and other small things inside the phone..... Rooting it and changing the rom enables you to tinker around and maybe fry the phone. So if your phone is broken and they see that you have rooted it they will make the assumption that you destroyed it in a way and decline to fix it. Further more if you want to change rom or root it you need to unlock the bootloader which means that they already know that you tried to do something after purchasing the phone. ?
Biluris out ?

I've never been angrier at a company than I am at Xiaomi

I live in Syria and all we have limited options for phones so I was very excited to learn that a xiaomi dealer started selling a couple of models one of them being the Redmi Note 3 specially with my 4 years old Nexus 5 battery almost dying so I payed 200$ to buy this phone which is A LOT of money here only because I noticed how much Roms and Mods it has and now after about 10 days of buying it I still get the error when trying to unlock the boot loader at 50% "Current account is different from the account info on the device" even after trying all the tutorials I found about turning gps and find my phone and locating the phone on the map and using the developer Rom still the same result.
I really really need root and having the phone without even the ability to root makes it unusable but selling the phone will lose me most of the price since the brand is unknown in my country so I have to sell for much less than what I bought for
I'm writing this just to ask the xda people is there ANY way at all to save me from selling the phone because I like it but I just can't be without root I'm willing to pay money just please any solution
if there's nothing I'll just sell and probably never buy a Xiaomi product again in my life I know Xiaomi doesn't care but I just had to say it because I'm so angry
You don't need root to have the opportunity to install custom roms all you need is unlocked bootloader. I guess you tried unlock bootloader by official method and it doesn't work for you, so try unofficial method: https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/how-to/method-miui-8-unlock-bootloader-twrp-t3529458 (with youtube video step by step)

Salam brother, im sorry for whats going on in syria...
You should unlock it unofficially, because i have been doing it too.
Have you flashed the developer rom from the updater app? (from the phone itself)
You first need to have this rom on the device in order to unlock the bootloader. This will wipe all your phone's data.
@mshtob You have to wait 7 days more after getting unlock permissions. Unofficial version have some flaws,do read more about it. I recommend you to go back locked bootloader after 1month then try unlocking official way. Also when unlocked unofficially, do cross check before flashing firmware as some firmwares lock device. It will create more problems for u.
Regards
Stop getting mad like an underage kid my friend, you just need to unlock your bootloader officially being in a official ROM and it works without problems because I didt it a lot of times in different versions with the official method.
If you don't like Xiaomi don't buy their phones. Also 200 dollars isn't a lot, you will pay a lot of stuff in your life. Phones are a need, not a toy to install custom roms. If you like to test ROMs and stuff I encourage you to test with your Nexus 5 or get another Nexus/Motorola.
I also have a Nexus 5 btw.
After unlock unofficially you have to delete EMMC appsboot. bin in firmware update folder in any miui rom with the help of RAR App from play store, which relock your phone. And use this patched twrp

[Q] Flashing Pixel ROM Redmi note 3

I am very keen to know about flashing ROMs
I am using Redmi note 3 SD 3G. I want to flash the pixel ROM for my device and I have the following doubts
1) Do I need to unlock my bootloader or without unlocking my bootloader I can directly flash TWRP?
2) If yes, then do I need a beta version of MIUI for unlocking my bootloader cause I have been trying since a very long time but it is stuck at 50%(I tried all the solutions).
Thanks a lot in advance
1. U have to unlock ur bootloader for flashing custom recovery .
2. it should be unlocked on any version but dev versions have more chance of unlocking than stable ones (especially china rom,s have high probability )
3 U can try unofficial bootloader unlocking but do it on ur own risk as it can hard brick ur device .

Wait for a few days or couple of weeks, that helped in my case. Update and try syncing your Mi account on your phone.
Follow the instructions here
http://en.miui.com/unlock/
If nothing works, follow this guide, just flash any ROM of your choice with TWRP.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/how-to/kate-guide-install-lineage-os-locked-t3546154
And if you want the Pixel experience, install PureNexus ROM, it is better.
Just flash lineageos with stock gapps. And then flash my universal pixelmod. It will give you full pixel experience. Nav bar not included yet. Will include it in future.

Custom Rom Suggestion

Please suggest me ROM that is bugless?? Or atleast with least bugs that won't create any problem to my daily usage.
Process to unlock bootloader? Will it void my warranty or rooting does void warranty?
It's my first MI phone. So I can't understand bootloader process.
Since I am on stock. Just would you suggest me to be in stock? Or use custom ROM??. Already have used all custom roms in my previous device (less specs) but there was no fun. Still ported "android one" is in progress??
Sorry for too many questions. I am just confused watching these forums since two weeks unable to decide.
Buy Nokia 3310 and play snake.

Lineage 15.1 by meedjay is byfar best custom ROM available for Redmi note 5.
For unlocking -https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-5/how-to/how-to-how-to-unlock-redmi-5-plus-t3750250
Unlocking your phone willnot void warranty but if u root or flash custom ROM , your warranty is now void .You can always get back to global version by miflashtool .

Just unlocking bootloader wont void warranty. anyway even if flash custom roms and root your device, u can flash stock rom and relock bootloader using mi flash tool if u need to visit service center.
Still risky but worth it
Imagine the circumstances where your phone's display is dead or maybe your battery is faulty or you're just unable to boot for some reason. Then you're just screwed. The warranty is already void because you wanted to flash that new rom which imo is already miles better than MIUI. And now you've to pay full price for the battery or display or mb, even though it's been only 3 months since you bought it. Expect zero to minimum support from the companies when it comes to any type of flashing or customizing. Hence, every rom has this BIG disclaimer that it may or will void warranty and they can't do anything about it.
When it comes to flashing roms and kernels, you're completely responsible for everything you do. For me and afaik, most of the xda community don't really care about the warranty but for the minority of people who actually do, be ready to take that risk if you want that sweet Pixel like experience on your Poco F1.
