[TIP] Getting Samsung Gear working with Galaxy A Series running Custom Roms - Galaxy A3, A5, A7, A8, A9 General

Hey guys,
In general, pairing up Samsung Smartwatches with Samsung Smartphones running Stock Official Roms is easy and pretty much straight forward. You only need to install Samsung Gear App from playstore and follow the procedure given by the app, but if you're running (any) custom roms on your device the installation might be a little tricky.
so I'd like to share how I got my Samsung Gear S3 working with my Galaxy A5 (2015) running Resurrection Remix (6.0.1) rom, hopefully this guide could be any use for anyone having trouble setting up theirs.
1. you need to prepare/download 3 specific APKs : Samsung Gear app, Samsung Accessory Service and Gear S Plugin. if you can't download them from Playstore then look for them in unofficial -but trusted- sites like apkmirror.com
2. You need to edit some lines on build.prop, you can find this file on /system/build.prop and open them with your favourite root file explorer's text editor (i'm using MiXplorer)
find these lines
ro.product.brand=samsung
ro.product.manufacturer=samsung
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
and change them into
ro.product.brand=htc
ro.product.manufacturer=htc
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
you can use other known brands but in my case i used htc.. after you're done editing, save it then reboot your phone
3. Install Samsung Gear app, Samsung Accessory Service and Gear S Plugin on your phone.
4. Run Samsung Gear app on your phone and follow instructions on your Phone's/Watch's screen
5. Done! if you do this right you can enjoy it less than 20 minutes

Nice thread, thanks.

Galaxy Gear Connection Issues

So i recently purchased a galaxy gear (1st gen) and tried using it with my z ultra (stock ..not rooted) ...followed all instrctions ...installed galaxy gear atn manager and the samsung bundle of apps (individually) and then fire up galaxy gear app to install ...it is unable to make a connection ...neither via nfc or bluetooth ...anyone experience the same issues.... i read a few threads where people were using z ultra with galaxy gear but seemed like they had GPE rom ...anyone been able to use it with stock ??
Paired perfectly with monx rom. I'm running Tizen gg btw.. Copy/paste galaxygearstub.apk to system/apps changed permissions to match other system apps. Then install gear manager and open and connect - gear manager will then install all the embedded apps one by one. Reboot, clear cache/dalvik if any fc's. You may need to be rooted to put gear manager stub app into the correct location.
I also had it paired prior to Tizen upgrade but was running custom f0mey rom on gear then.

Not sure about Gear 1. My Gear 2 is working fine with my Stock Rom.
Gear Manager for Gear 1 and Gear 2 is different. Be sure to install correct version.
And, I saw that Gear 1 firmware was updated to Tizen OS recently.

Tried everything..just wont connect Sucks!!
Make sure that the two are not already paired in android already. I had this problem then realized thet they were already paired and that was making the gear manager startup fail.

GearFIT & Oppo Find5

Hi everybody,
here are my impressions and questions ( please answer me ) after reading forum threads and playing with my fit.
Its one day im using sgf and impressions are good, except for all the limitations and "walls" met with a non samsung dev.
First of all, my FIT firmware is R350XXU0BND8 and actually im using Fit Manager 1.49
Fit connects well with phone and everything is working except SHealth (is there a way to get rid of this?)
but i will play more with it ... not now cause "fitness" use is not my first need
Even the clock+weather layout doesn't work. I have found somewhere the "SweatherProvider" apk, but it wont install on my FIND5, why? is there a way to fix it?
I have edited build.props (like stated here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2718949) and now all the "gear settings, gear phone and gear calendar" apps are working. They are running a little slow, but acceptable.
Is there any way to put the icon in an easier place? instead of scroll--> settings-->apps --> gearPhone app ?
First question: every Manager version works only with relative firmware, right? So if i want to use last mgr version (1.67) i have to put on FIT last firmware (R350XXU0BNE5) right? and this should work even with 1.70 ( found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2789503)
Second question: Wich are all the apk's that i should install except manager? I mean do i need Fitness_with_gear, shealth_service, Shealth apk's?
Final and "stupid" question. With non samsung devices i have to always update firmware and manager versions manually, right?
sorry... missing phone info

.::IMPORTANT PLEASE READ THIS FIRST!::.
First: Before you start questioning and posting here, please do understand that you need to carefully read all these instruction below, not just first post (OP), but following several posts (#2,#3, #4, etc.) these posts are also part of this OP post. It is very very critical to read and have clear understanding how version of this ROM works, and how it can be customized, failure to not read all the instructions and not able to follow, you will get lost, most likely you will soft-brick your device.
Second: This is fully deodexed, pre-rooted with SuperSU included, KNOXless Stock Touchwiz ROM. If you looking for debloated 5.1.1 ROM, you may check @Zaphodspeaks 's ROM thread for debloated Stock Touchwiz 5.1.1 ROM if that's your thing. This ROM comes several ported apps from Galaxy Tab S2 and Galaxy Tab A. All these apps ported from their lollipop firmwares, ported, re-sized to fit our screen, and done many modifications all the way down to app smali files.
And lastly: Just because I put out a ROM here in Galaxy Tab 4 ROM thread, it does NOT mean I am your full-time tech support. Remember that this is provided as free of use, and if you are taking a custom ROM, Devs assume that you know what you are doing and have basic knowledge of doing so. Needless to say, if your tablet still under warranty, flashing custom ROMs voids your warranty. XDA is community driven forum, if you stuck, you can always ask here, and also using search box in XDA is your best friend.
Now the fun part

.::INSTALL INSTRUCTION (CLEAN INSTALL)::.
Even if you are on V2.1, For V3.X, Full Wipe is still OBLIGATORY for proper installation! No dirty flash over v2.1!!
*Warning!: You need to follow these instruction step by step, if you do NOT, you will have problem!*
1. First thing first; Have you made full nandroid backup yet? if not, this is very good time to do it now.
2. Download JazzROM For Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 (5.1.1) [SM-T330NU] to your device's internal or microSD card that you can easily find it for flashing later on.
3. Reboot into PhilzTouch CWM Recovery
4. Do Factory Reset first in PhilzTouch recovery, and then also do the " install new ROM" option in PhilzTouch Recovery.
5. Go back and do Wipe Cache and also do Wipe Dalvik/Art too in PhilzTouch recovery - just to be safe side.
6. Flash JazzROM For Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 (5.1.1) [SM-T330NU] ROM, and once it is done, click back key in recovery, and select reboot your system.
8. This is lollipop - first reboot seems like taking forever, but be patient here, you have to wait 15 min to 20 mins.
9. After it finishes the reboot, you may go thru your normal tablet setup (wifi, google account, Samsung account, time setup, etc).
10. After you done with step 9, you can now jump to next posts (post#2, 3, etc) below for additional setup and customization of the JazzROM.
.::KNOWN ISSUES/LIMITATIONS::.
This ROM is quite stable for daily drive, but like all custom ROMs, there's always some small issues and limitations, which I am NOT considering as big showstoppers:
Smart Manager works perfectly fine, but when you check storage and ram detail button in the app, it FCs, the reason is that this is from Tab S2 port, which is still based on 5.0.2, thus looking for 5.0.2 settings activities and our device is 5.1.1. Once 5.1.1 firmware available for Tab S2/Tab A, I will back ported our device again. So expect a fix for it - Fixed.
ToolBox has 12 apps limitation, that's how many apps you can able to add, and it is limited. Do not try to add more than, that it will crash your tablet. This is NOT a bug, just limitation of ToolBox.
As mentioned above, some ported apps you may see some little cosmetic imperfection in these ported apps, but consider that ported apps has 4:3 aspect screen ratio (Tab S2 / Tab A), while this tablet has 16:9 aspect screen ratio, so every effort being made to make it fit our tablet screen.
TouchWiz Launcher's A-Z option sorting is not included in original app (go check it out on Galaxy Tab A's and you will see it does not have A-Z sorting), Samsung decided to enable A-Z sorting in some of newest TouchWiz Home launcher, while it disabled in some others. So I went ahead and modified launcher.smali file to enable it. A-Z option for sorting works fine, but if you keep trying several times, it may not sort it correctly on landscape. Before you start asking that, remember that even Samsung disabled this feature, so don't complain it, take it as it is.
.::WHAT NOT TO EXPECT::.
Frequent updates.
Fancy Aramo installations (who got time for it!?).
Bugs free experiences.
Problems will be solved quickly/ultimately.
Individual/feature requests (I will listen, but no promise).

How to Enable S5 ToolBox and N4 SideKey in JazzROM
I have used following guide see here to edit both SecSettings.apk and framework.jar in our tablet. So both this SecSettings.apk and framework.jar updated in JazzROM.
In order to enable it, please follow this instruction link below - you need to download SQLite Editor from play store.
See Here for SQLlite instruction
I do not want copy and paste entire images, nor duplicate instructions here since @thereassaad already nicely outlined, just follow piece for S5 Toolbox and Sidekey for SQLite Editor, and don't forget to click reset button on notifacation in the settings, and then reboot. All stuff need to work is already added to SecSettings.apk and framework.jar.
Important!: Guys, it is case-sensitive, make sure you type as Toolbox, not ToolBox and it is SideKey, not Sidekey
so at the end, you should have like this;
.......;SideKey;Toolbox;SFinder;
How to Install Xposed in JazzROM
1. Install XposedInstaller_3.0_alpha4.apk - download here
2. Download xposed-v75-sdk22-tw-arm-custom-build-by-wanam-20151008.zip Wanam's Xposed for Samsung lollipop here - Important!!, remember you need 32bit one, not 64bit version.
2. Reboot into recovery and do full nandroid backup just in case.
3. Flash xposed-v75-sdk22-tw-arm-custom-build-by-wanam-20151008.zip, and do wipe caches and whipe dalwik/art after that (just playing safe here)
4. Reboot is going to take sometime, so take a break, have coffee or glass of wine or something..
5. Once reboots, you have xposed installed (already activated, no need to do anything).
6. Be very very careful what xposed you use, make sure it works with lollipop, especially check if it works for Samsung lollipop ROM!, installing an xposed app that's not intended to work for Lollipop may soft-brick your tablet!
How to get 5-Way Reboot, All Apps in MW (multi-window), Center Clock and Rounded Recents
Courtesy of @pyromayniyak (make sure you thank to him), please see this post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63487537&postcount=145. Make sure make full nandroid backup in case you like to restore back your tablet to previous stage!
Needless to say, this will be included to next version of JazzROM.

.::Q&A::.
1. I followed your install instruction, got bootloop, samsung logo does not goes way, waited for 1 hour, still nothing, what the heck I am doing wrong..?
Well, there could be couple of a lot reason why so. However, if you tried several times and still got the same result, what I would recommend is start from scratch; what I meant is flash official 5.1.1 firmware via odin, and then flash PhilzTouch CWM Recovery - if you are having issue flashing PhilzTouch CWM Recovery, download it from moonbutt74 thread, copy it to your tablet, unzip it, and locate recovery.img, and using Flasfiy app flash it to your tablet. And finally, grab moonbutt74's bootable stock lollipop kernel and flash it, and then flash Supersu beta 2.49 top of it. At up this point, you should be running official 5.1.1 ROM with root and PhilzTouch CWM Recovery installed as your recovery. Now, come back here and flash this ROM following the instructions above. .

2. Are you going to support or release your ROM for different variant of Tab 4 devices such as SM-T530/T530NU, SM-T532, SM-T331, SM-T337A, etc..?
My motto is if I don't have device, I don't support. Please do understand that. However, if someone or some developers willing to port this ROM to other Tab 4 device, they are more than welcome to do so as long as keep the ROM name and credits intact.

3. I was able to install your ROM and all working perfect, but got some apps FCs, why?
This ROM has been fully tested for several weeks, all apps checks out fine. However, sometimes when installed first time, some apps tend to give you FCs, if it happens, do this step: Go to Settings --> Application Managers --> All, and locate the app that give you FC, and now click Clear Data and Clear Cache, and then reboot your tablet. Now check the app that gave FC and see if it works. If still an issue, send me the catlog.

How to ask help?
We are here to help, but not here to be your personal tech 24/7 support. If you come here custom ROM, means you know what you are doing and has knowledge how to flash a ROM, so before you ask question or help, make sure you provide details (catlogs, screenshots, etc.) here, so that we can help.
We all doing this in our spare time, and have another life other than XDA, so be nice, be kind, so if developer does not reply you, don't get mad!, ask around maybe others will help!
One of my JazzROM moderators is @Zaphodspeaks, so if you ask him nicely, he will help, and also remember this is community driven XDA forum, we all help each other to make better ROMs.

well, you already did debloated version, for now I am not going to debloat this ROM as I need some more customization and I don't know if I am going to end up needing some apps, libs, frameworks, etc...

I also take it you came across the same problem I had with Google Drive? Opening and Force Closing over and over and over again..lol

Some google apps in system folder for lollipop hates deodexing, you may thinking it must be Google thingy, but I believe it is how Samsung intercorparated art runtime in their device.
Trying something new, and soft-bricking tablet...that's how you learn man....so keep it up...
and yeah, I ended up completely rewrote the updater-script to more streamline.

Samsung Frankenstiened Dalvik and ART together.. Nasty mixture, but its made to make it damn near impossible to develop or modify..
There was not one single tool that did the job either.. I used several tools and strangely enough I got it right the first time... I had to make some changes in the Archi Kitchen though since it didn't support our device.. It should now with what I added to it.. When I wanted to use it to preroot, the default method wouldn't work on 5.1.1..
So I changed that as well by updating it..
jazz
Excellent job! Looks great, feels great. Very well done.
Thanks for putting it all together for us.

It worked after I installed it from the PlayStore. Until I needed to reboot my tablet, then it caused a constant reboot over and over again. I had to restore from backup. I don't really need Amplify though, so I'll leave it for now.
But my irblaster does not work. I've tried a few different apps, and none of them work. Will someone check to see if it works with this ROM on their tab so I know if it's just me or not.
Thanks in advance!

remember that originally irblaster was not there, @moonbutt74 made it available in kernel. Samsung somehow screw this up.
honestly, have not have chance to check or test it out.
have you tried Peel app (which replaces Samsung WatchOn). I had WatchOn on my Note 3, suddenly Samsung App promted for update and update it, and become Peel app.

Yes. I have tried WatchOn, Peel, Smart Remote, AnyMote, and a few others. It worked when I was on stock LP 5.1.1 with moonbutt74's kernel, but not working with this ROM.

check with @Zaphodspeaks and see if it works on his ROM or not. If it does not works in his ROM, means because of deodexing may causing it....I can't really tell for sure.
another thing, when you trying, run catlog on background, and see if you can able to capture some logs for us to look.

Gear fit 2 + OnePlus 2 - Android 6.0.1 - OxygenOS 3.0.2

Hi everyone,
I recently bought a Gear fit 2 and i'm trying to install it on my OnePlus 2. From the information i've gathered it doesn't seem work with the latest OxygenOs + Android 6.0.1. Do any of you have any recommendations/ideas on what I should do to get it to work? Should i install another ROM, which do you recommend in that case?
Any tips are most welcome.
Thank you!
Did u installed all these apps from Play store?
Gear Fit2 Plugin (not "Gear Fit Plugin")
Samsung Gear
Samsung Accessory Service
All three are needed, and it should work.

Hi, Thank you for your response. I installed the Gear Fit2 Plugin separately, updated the Samsung Accessory Service and downloaded the apk for Samsung Gear (since it's not available on Play store for Oneplus 2). Now it seems to work. Previously when it was syncing it hang, but for some reason it works now. Thank you

Hi,
I downloaded the Samsung Gear apk from apkpure.com (i can't post URLS since my account is new)
I love the device so far. I'm still waiting for the spotify app to sync playlists to the gear.

Oops! I wasn't notified of your reply/question. I ended up downloading those individual apks through one of the sites where you paste in the Google Play link and it pulls the apk, then you sideload. I don't recall which site though.
Damn, sorry be kinda vague. I found that downloading directly from the Google Play store, I could not get the Gear Fit2 to pair and sync. However, when I downloaded the individual apk's, and installed via sideload, it worked. Bizarre stuff, I tell ya.
I've since moved on to a Garmin Vivoactive HR, and while it's a great device, it doesn't match the Gear Fit2 in how perfectly it worked once setup.
Hi! I installed the apks and downloaded the gear app on my OPT but now it doesn't detect the gearfit2 fitness band. Could you please help.
I've installed the apk and almost everything works but I can't download any apps or watchfaces.
When I try to download an app/watchface it keeps installing for several minutes and then stops withoit giving an error.
Can someone please help me?
It doesnt work for me.
I have a custom Rom on a Samsung Device.
I keep getting
"Notice
The operating system on your phone has been modified in an unauthorized way, and is not compatible with the Samsung Gear app. Check your operating system and try again."

Well if I may try to assist, your problem is that since that app recognizes your device as a Samsung device (probably through the build.prop) it won't allow you to use gear until you go back to the stock firmware.
In theory you are not a non-Samsung device you are a modified Samsung device as the app clearly states.
Hope I helped.
Pavlos
I'd like to re-open this thread. I've followed everything specified in previous posts, however I'm still getting the message "The operating system on your phone has been modified in an unauthorized way, and is not compatible with the Samsung Gear app. Please check your operating system and try again."
Has anybody encountered this message and been able to get through it?
You must change all entrys in /system/build.prop like "Samsung" into e.g. "HTC".
In this case you can start the Samsung Gear app.
I had the same Problem, i can start the app but no Gear Fit 2 was found

[IMPORTANT] I need a stock Touchwiz Lollipop CONTACT/DIALER apk

Hello! My name is Marie, and I'm new to these forums.
While trying some ported Note 7 apks I found here, I accidentaly deleted my bkp for the Samsung stock Contact app.
Now I don't want to use third-party apps found on the Play Store, and I'd like mine back.
I searched everywhere, but I only found a S7 stock app that made my phone crash.
So I'd like somebody owning a Samsung under Lollipop (since it's the only one I'm sure my phone will have no problem running) to send me the apk for the CONTACT/PHONE stock app.
Using a ROOTed Samsung Galaxy A300FU (A3 2015) under Marshmallow.
This is really important to me!
Thank you!
