ROMs for Z/Z Pro possible? - UMi Z Questions & Answers

Is it possible to get Roms on Z/Z Pro? I don't know much about it but i read that umidigi had to release source code. So do you think it is possible in near future?
And what about the dual lens in z pro. Possible to get for example lineage OS because oft camera or not?

LineageOS would actually be a great alternative.
With the standard camera app of the Z Pro I also have problems.
The photos are not good and are always out of focus.
With the "Open Camera" the photos are very good.
Unfortunately, the Dual Lens is not supported by the "Open Camera".
I have not found an app for Dual Lens.

Not without the source

We need to push Umidigi / MediaTek to release the source so that development can begin on LineageOS and other such roms.
There is an open petition on change.org to request the release of the source code. Unfortunately I cannot post the link yet as I don't have enough posts on XDA to post links.
If you google search : Source code for UMIDIGI Z PRO you shall see it as the first hit.

Google Camera Mod for Xperia X?

Does anyone know if there's a version of the GCam for Xperia X?
No. You could unlock bootloader and use a custom ROM with Camera2 API enabled though, that's the only way.

Even though, that doesn't help. Camera with HDR+ doesn't function.

Is it? Shame. I read somewhere it's working for their device (XZ/XZ1c), so I assumed it worked with X too.

HDR+ works you just have to use the latest GCam mod and follow the recommended settings.

Could you please elaborate more? Which exactly "latest GCam mod"? And what are "recommended settings"? Unfortunately, I can't read thoughts...
Forget HDR, can you get Motion Photos that way or whatever they are called?
Google's implementation is the closest to Apple's Live Photos there is, there is no contest otherwise. Trust me, I looked around.
Also, there is no "latest GCam mod"... There's a LOT of Google Camera mods.
Here, have a look: https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/
Yeah... I know... And don't bother ctrl+F-ing "Xperia" or "Sony"...
Funny how we Xperia X users all know that the stock camera app sucks balls, but there is nothing really out there in terms of gCam to fix it.
Sidenote: really unfortunate that Google is not supplying gCam to anyone anymore. The added features are in parts the things people will miss from iPhone and the typical argument that with Android you're free to mix software and hardware gets a huge blow.
It'd be less annoying if Pixels had an SD card slot.

ROMs, Cameras, Features

Hello everyone!
Lifetime Android user here, but completely new to the modding scene. I will receive my new phone (an F1 of course) in a few days.
I have a few questions pertaining MIUI, LineageOS, Resurrection Remix, and Pixel Experience that I haven't been able to find satisfying answers about and I'd be glad if you could help.
GENERAL
1: Which one do you use, and why do you prefer it? What others have you tried?
2: What general features distinguish RR from LOS?
3: How are all of them performance-wise? RAM management and similar things.
4: Do custom ROMs update automatically (or, rather, easily)?
CAMERA
5: Is Gcam installed in the same way on all of them? Is it just an apk, compatible with all of them?
6: Is the stock MIUI camera available as a port to the other ROMs mentioned above? How?
7: Does Gcam take advantage of the dual camera of the F1 even if the Pixel just has one? How (and actually why)?
8: Are there other camera apps that you deem very good, especially for video capability? Which ones and why?
I know I'm asking much, so thanks so much in advance for any answer, even if just to one question! Have a nice day!

1. I use PE because it gives what it says, pixel experience. No need to flash Gapps or install GCam because already ships with the rom. I tried Lineage, Omni, Paranoid Android and MIUI EU
2. More customization I believe is what distinguish both
3. Same
4. Yes
5. Yes
6. Yes, Magisk module
7. No, no need
8. I just use GCam and MIUI Cam port

Thank you so much! About #7 (Gcam not taking advantage of the second camera), are you sure of that? I've heard/read that PF1's camera with Gcam mod might even be better than the Pixel 3 camera itself because of better edge detection given by the second camera, but if what you say is true why did they come to that conclusion. Is theirs just an assumption? Thanks again!

Google camera for Mate 20 pro

Hii..
Here is the Google camera which i was using on my honor play. But unfortunately I updated my phone to EMUI 9 after that I am not able to use it.
On mate 20 pro you have fully enabled camera2api. It may work on your device.
Make the " GCam" folder into the file manager and inside this GCam folder make "Configs" Folder. Inside the Configs folder keep mentioned below " .xlm" file
If you have any gcam installed then uninstall that and install this one. After opening the camera just do duoble tap below the shutter button and you will get a prompt to restore. Tap on restore that's it.
Note: restart the camera..
Enjoy ??
Here is the xml file ??

I can see the following error appearing in logcat:
01-23 20:57:24.240 E/ (1171): [ZeroHung]zrhung_get_config: Get config failed for wp[0x0008]
Is this because it cannot find the config folder you mentioned?
I see where google camera can be downloaded from app gallery. Works fine on phone.
I found a great app in AppGallery. Try it out!https://appgallery.cloud.huawei.com...le.android.apps.messaging&shareFrom=appmarket
Just noticed it is 4.1 though.

Sorry guys i have bad news for you. Huawei and Honor have officially disabled support for Google camera in their latest EMUI 9. All who got the EMUI 9 will not get the taste of Google camera anymore until they will enable it again. According to the developer Urynx05.
This was my biggest ever mistake i brought the honor phone. These people restrict users in all the way. You can't do anything with your mobile.
1: You can't unlock the bootloader
2: Now disabled the support of Google camera
3: Third party launchers are not working well with EMUI 9
4: You can't record the logcat. If you record the logact there will be no meaningful information.
ArnovaG82 did the great job. He did so much hard work to make Google camera compatible with kirin devices. We were enjoying the Google camera on EMUI 8.2. we were happy about it but Huawei and Honor disabled completely in their latest EMUI 9 update.
I am not gonna buy Honor/Huawei smartphone ever again because these people are not giving any freedom to the users.
If Huawei/Honor don't like these things why dont they make their own operating system..

I'll take your word for 2 and 4 - but 1 and 3 is wrong, there's plenty of posts here that prove that you can unlock the bootloader and 3, I used several different launchers and they all work well (maybe it's better to say "some 3rd party launchers"..)
Edit: do you actually only mean Honor phones or also Huawei?

You can unlock the bootloader but thats expensive it cost near around 40 or 50$. No one is ready to do that and this is not the easiest way. If bootloader unlock is easy then why isn't any development going on Huawei/Honor devices.
I swear to God
I'm not going to buy any phone from this company again

Welcome ?️?️?️
Got it to work with the Standard Mate 20
Tried it on the standard Mate 20
Firstly, the rear camera crashes.
Video and Selfie works though.
I then played around the settings and i got the rear camera working.
I changed some settings:
1. Settings > Quick Settings > Advanced > Fix > Viewfinder Format > YUV_420_888(Default)
2. Settings > Quick Settings > Advanced > Base > Config > Pixel2018 HW Zsl Hdr(need YUV)
Nightsight, portrait, slowmo still not working
Hope this works with the Pro model.

Yes it takes pictures but without hdr. You can see there is no hdr processing. In this config. Hdr remain disabled..
There is no way that Google camera will work on EMUI 9. They have disabled it completely. Main thing in Google camera is "Hdr+". If it doesn't work then there is no meaning of Google camera..
Thanks..

XP I mark II doesn't support fully camera 2 API ?
Xp 1 mk 2 *does* support the camera 2 API according to the the various tools like gcaminator etc
However the issue here seems to be different, currently the modded APKs available crash on startup as they have not been optimised or built specifically for for this phone.
It maybe the snapdragon 865 chipset or something else in the the Sony build.
Does anyone know if there are any developers porting the app to the phone? LG has a pretty strong user base and even they have a working port too. I was wondering if anyone else knows of other Devs that porting over GCam as a project
Arnova8G2 just posted in the following thread, that there is a working verison that'll soon be shared on xda ?

Good to hear that.
This week the 1 II will be released in the US and as soon as next week there will be 1st major firmware upgrade that brings an upgraded camera refinement and RAW to Photo Pro. I think more people will pick up 1 II after this and with more increasing users hopefully, that can spark interests in developers.

Hello I have Sony xperia 1 II, I would like to become a GCam tester. Sony have nice night photo but it is not perfect you can see the lens after editing and the raw cannot be saved. You must use an external application for raw but external applications offer max 1 second of exposure. Tried many apps only version 5 works and it stuttered terribly didn't work well sony app works better.
The only gcam that didn't crash for me until I got camera privileges was "PXv4.3_GoogleCamera_7.2.014.apk".
Who can send me apk for testing from aronova?

How do I install the stock OOS camera app on LineageOS 18.1?

Hi,
I use LineageOS 18.1 and a GCam mod for a camera app. It takes great pictures, however, it lacks support for some features, like 48MP images and (good) macro.
I wanted to install this APK, but as the note says, "Sideloading this APK may not work, so you may need root to install. "
Can someone tell me the steps to install it?
Just install it as a normal apk and see if it works.
Or, extract the apk from the stock rom

I don't know how to do that. Plus, getting the original OOS cam to work on a custom rom seems to be a pretty big problem, as read in this thread. I guess it hasn't been successfully ported to LOS yet. This is a pretty big issue for me as well, as I am a heavy camera user and really don't want to go back to OOS.
IMO that rom is useless without a proper camera app
There has been a previous thread on this topic, in that thread, a user mentions that havoc os has OOS' camera built in. Havoc os is a highly customisable, fast os, usually just as fast as lineage. However, no one has ported havoc for the oneplus 8 pro, its currently available for the 8t. Maybe make a new thread requesting for havoc os with OOS cam, or any rom with OOS cam, as it has been proven possible by havoc os.
Link to thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/porting-the-oos-camera-to-custom-roms.4287523/#post-85212471

Well, I certainly wouldn't call it useless, I like LOS very much, but the lack of a proper camera (meaning, one that supports all the modes that the original OOS camera does) is really a bummer.

The first thread you linked is exactly the one I linked to. Yeah, I may post a request for OOS camera to be ported to LOS - where do I do that? The "OnePlus 8 Pro Themes, Apps, and Mods" forum?
Thanks for the second link. So far I've tried the stock LOS camera, which is pretty good, but no 48MP, macro and RAW support, OpenCamera and 5-6 versions of GCam. GCam is probably the best, but it too lacks good macro and 48MP.

I may have jumped the gun on calling it useless. But a major oversight and deal breaker for me.
just install a third party camera app, which has the features you need (e.g. from play store)
Based on my experience of building ROMs from source, OOS camera support has to be baked in by the dev. It's covered in the jaguar ROM thread as well. There are OP specific libraries needed to support it.
