Hello, is it a simple way or an app that would let me configure a certain number of MB that could be used by devices connected to my Android phone usine hotspot function ?
I am travelling and I have prepaid plans with à few GO datas included. I would like to let my kids connecter to internet through the tethering function (I Tarn the hotspot on) but I would avoid that they use too much data. Ideal situation would be to be able to setup à certain number of MB for the devices that connect to my Android...
Does any one knows à way to do it ?

It's just impossible .
The easy answer: You can't. You either have no internet connection, or you pay some provider to have an internet connection. They have to pay for their network connection too you know.
The hard answer: Read Computer Networks (5th Edition) - by Andrew S. Tanenbaum. Then something like Hacking: The Art of Exploitation, 2nd Edition - by Jon Erickson. Hack into your provider's infrastructure. Depending on your country you will now face several years of jailtime. With some luck there is free internet access included.
NB: Actual punishable offense enactment is not endorsed by me. This is merely for personal enjoyment.
Sometimes there are proxy hacks that allow for free data, but most of the time you get extremely slow data rates and limited capabilities. Not worth it IMO. A data plan is well worth it's cost especially on Android.

You can't get free internet in your mobile device, one way is only Wi-Fi but if you want free internet in every time on your mobile you need pay for network traffic.
It isn't worth the trouble to do this. And it definitely doesn't last long. Just use WiFi and stick to that.

I have been looking for an application which is a more powerful version of the WiFi Tethering already included in a phone.
I have been looking for an application on Xda, Google, and the Marketplace but none I have found provides me with the ability to see individual users (or Mac addresses) data usage.
First a little background on what I am trying to achieve.
I regularly provide a WiFi router for people with IPods and devices with wireless but no internet connection who need internet access to update games / browse the internet, and whilst my FUP at 500mb is quite low, I rarely use more than 20mb in a month so it doesn't bother me as beyond 500mb the connection is just limited to text and images (downloads and internet streaming are disabled after 500mb) which is all that I need.
However when my FUP has been exceeded alot of devices cant do the small updates this is no good when games or apps require it (as I have seen a couple even stop working till updates are completed) due to the connection being restricted. I have usually tracked it down to an over enthusiastic user who is watching videos on youtube, which has wiped out 100mb of my usage within 2 minutes on one occasion.
I am running both Android and Windows Mobile on my HD2, however I doubt WM will have a suitable app which is why I am hedging my bet with the Android market place, however a Windows Mobile version wouldnt go without great thanks, Whilst the built in "Portable Hotspot" of Android is good as it lets me restrict the number of users and see the Mac address of connected clients, it doesnt let me monitor their usage and then let me disconnect individual users them from the connection.
Whilst im sure there is apps for overall phone usage I am looking to monitor the individual devices usage as with 3-5 devices it is hard to distinct between legitimate usage and constant heavy usage.
Is there any Wifi Tethering app to let me do this?
To summarise:
Wifi Tethering App
Android / Windows Mobile
Shows Client Usage
MAC filtering (or alternatives which allow individual devices to be disconnected)
Preferably freeware however im sure I could be persuaded otherwise.

I can keep track of all data with 3G Watchdog, but knowing exactly how much data each wifi connected user takes up would be nice.
I realize this is thread necromancy, but did you ever find such an app? I too share my unlimited connection with coworkers, and there is one in particular that likes updating Xilinx (a "patch" is 8GB) and Windows Updates and so on over my connection. I am looking for something with QoS so I can put bandwidth caps on the heavy users that aren't my 4 machines.

There is an app called " bandwidth ruler free " for this . But this app monitors all users data connected to the Wifi hotspot . So it gives the overall data usage.
It can also set the download/upload speed for the wifi hotspot and this applicable for all the users .

I used to use my Galaxy S2 (flashed with rooted android 2.3.4 ROM) as a WiFi access point with my current carrier SFR.
In the past, I had to change the access point from websfr to sl2sfr to be able to use the phone as a WiFi access point without entering the paying option. In order for that to work, I had to change the user-agent on the devices connected to the access point because PC and MAC user-agents were forbidden (for browsers... e-mail and vpn clients used to work, as well as remote desktop on port 3389 etc).
Now, it seems that they are not forbidden anymore and all ports I tried are open.
I wonder if the carrier can be notified, like iOS does on iPhone.
If so, how can the data stream processed by the connected devices be differentiated from the data stream processed by the phone?
It's summer time and I need to be able to use my S2 as a Wifi access point but I don't want to have a bad surprise when the invoice arrives.

I've been looking for a solution to my problem but found nothing solid so far.
Case looks like this: I'm traveling a lot. In Malaysia (where I live) I have unlimited data package and I don't really care how much data is downloaded by my apps via 3G or WiFi - in short, i don't care.
Problem starts when I'm traveling - if I'm abroad, I'm trying to minimize 3G data usage to save some money. Problem is that many "data hungry" apps start downloading the data as soon as they detect there is internet connection available. Most of the apps doesn't care if it's 3G or WiFi data connection. Some apps allow you to configure if they can use 3G or WiFi only - but not all.
I would like to be able to control if particular app has access to Internet via WiFi only or 3G+WiFi. Is there any way to achieve this?
P.S. O course - it would be a "dream coming true" if there was a way to control if App can use WiFi only or 3G+WiFi or "WiFi+3G (local) and WiFi Only (roaming). I don't this something like this exists but ... it would be nice

I would like to know if anyone can provide me source code for FoxFi PdaNet+. I already contacted the company directly and have never heard back from them. What I really need is a new way to tether the internet from my unlimited data plan from my carrier through its 3G/4G network to my linux and windows installations. I want to install whatever I come up with on my device from the same carrier company that is an old obsolete mobile hotspot called the Sierra Wireless 3G/4G Overdrive Pro. It was distributed to two different carriers. I need to unlock it and install an operating system on it that I can use effectively.
I need 3 things.
1. A way to unlock my Sierra Wireless mobile hotspot device, which is not an Android.
2. A new program to tether from my paid data plan my carrier provides me now equivalent to FoxFi PdaNet+ in its ability to tether without restriction.
3. A simple and easy way to connect my mobile hotspot to my present data plan... or a new operating system I write that can subvert the carrier's software already installed on it propietarily and somehow manage to use my carrier's unlimited data access provision to hook up my server/router WAP mobile 3G/4G device that I bought from them in 2011. It is a WiFi wireless access point that can use a data plan to create a wireless network but also has a microUSB port to connect to a computer. If you would help me, I could use this device which I bought from the same company I currently pay and bought all my devices from that provides me my unlimited data plan so I can transfer my tethering capabilities from my broken Android LG G3 cell phone whose screen is cracked and has continual loss of connectivity to this aforementioned Sierra Wireless Overdrive Pro 3G/4G WAP router & server respective hardware & software device I own and bought from them a long time ago.

I feel disappointed that the technology used to switch between 3G and 4G connections freely with unlimited access in the days when data was unlimitedly given at an upfront down price and not paid for by the bit is fading away as the carriers are charging people by data. To charge by bandwidth would make logical sense because there is a natural limit of bandwidth. But to charge people for data is abusive. So I also feel choked.
Maybe if we can rescue the unlimited access that old hardware can provide then the major carriers will find that they cannot limit data anymore and will have to renegotiate the terms of internet usage.
My real name is Moishe and I am just trying to clear out all the evil in the world technologically. Because I live here, too.

I really want foxfi's tricks too. I need to see what they actually do with the 'Hide my Tether Usage option' and there universal provision bypass works well on almost every device i've tried, so it would be handy as a dev to see their secret just to know how to manually bypass these restrictions especially on ATT/Cricket devices. The build.prop mod for provisioning doesn't work at all with cricket/att as you'll still get the 'oops contact http://provider.com/mobilehotspot' message.
I know some people here on xda has to know a the correct way for ATT/Cricket devices (not meaning using xposed modules, or any build.prop tweaks) I actually managed to disect some apk / framework on one ATT device and there was an odex file caused the check to actually happen. Renaming that odex file to a backup took care of it, but I can't remember exactly where it was and I didn't document it at the time. I'd give anything if I had of because i've not seen this trick anywhere again and after I got another Cricket device I could never figure it out again.. And my previous phone was history, so I couldn't reference it for the changes I made either.
I'm working on this now. I need a similar thing. Ping me sometime in the future so I can be reminded to post updates to this thread.
