Well, find the door and walk through it. A higher rating indicates that it has very high maximum brightness and thus fantastic outdoor visibility in direct sunlight.

Well i have used the phone in direct sunlight and cant really say anything bad about it is readable so tha i can take calls, read texts but i wouldn't go out and start watching a video since when i say direct sunlight its like 90+°F lol but if i sit in a sunlight area with a bit of wind then yes phone is plenty bright enought for me to watch content on and enjoy it
For me it deserves 4 stars. LG G6 is more than sufficiently visible under direct sunlight.
It's pretty amazing to me that nobody other than Samsung has figured out oled for mobile screens. You know lg has been working on it for years, but for some reason they just can't mass produce it. Samsung has it mastered.
Actually LG isn't really starting to dabble in small OLED until next year.
As far as screen quality goes I saw a review stating measured 557 nits, as bright as the iPhone 7. Color accuracy was better than the iPhone and S7. Gamut was a little disappointing with 136% sRGB vs 197% for the S7. All in all a great display, probably the best LCD ever put in a phone.

Mastered? Lol... Reddit is full of people complaining about burned in screens on their S8 after just a few days.

i didnt know that... i guess i meant they are far, far ahead of anyone else in mobile oled displays
im very impressed with the lg g5's display. super bright, very rich in color. and crazy sharp.
It's summer season where I'm at and yesterday I was at the beach. Visibility is low in outdoor bright light.
Probably a weird question, but how is this phone when using with polarised sunglasses?
My Z2 turns to black in some angles in portrait mode and completely black in horizontal.

I will have pretty good comparison. HTC 10 was having highest ppi and regarded as the best lCD display. However outdoor visibility was extremely bad. I am not sure but I think it is a characteristics of LCD display . One thing I notice that even for camera HTC 10 was relying on display. Whenever I was opening camera app the screen was automatically turning 100% bright and then comeback to normal after closing the app. It happen with third party camera app as well. I will report once I get G6.

my experience: under sunlight (outdoor) in automatic brightness it is very difficult to see..... the always on display is completely invisible!!!!

Don't use auto brightness. Auto brightness is buggy in most devices. Try to do it manually.

You can see the display in all angles. Slightly worse with rainbow-effect in some angles, but still visible.
Anyone know how it compares with the LG V20 display?

Yes it may be buggy however according to http://www.androidauthority.com/lg-g6-review-752130/
the LG G6 display actually gets brighter than 100% when it is set to AUTO.
"Putting it through our testing, we found the display to have a max manual brightness of 556 nits, which is boosted to a very respectable 663 nits when auto brightness is engaged under direct light. In sunlight, this is likely to be even higher"
I have no way to test this myself. The display is just barely usable in direct sunlight. Better than my G3 though. I wish it was better in this regard since I use this as my motorcycle GPS sometimes.

Sorry for you but in the same condiction i see all very well and compared to my previous device (Samsung Galaxy s4, Redmi Note 2 and Lg G3) i think LG G6 is better of all of them, on automatic brightness too...

Do you use auto brightness and/or a screen protector? I guess some phones have brighter screens than others...

The Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge has a crazy crisp display. Just kidding, this is automated text so who knows if this screen is any good. So, you be the judge! A higher rating indicates that it's extremely sharp and clear, and that you cannot see pixels with your naked eye.

Even at QHD I can see the weird rainbow-sh look in the display. AMOLEDs with pentile pattern look worse than something like IPS at the same resolution.
Im not sure if it's because of the curves or the QHD but the screen looks AMAZING. Great contrast between whites and blacks and so crisp for web browsing.
Definitely one of the best screens available in smartphones. WOW effect is still present for me.
I think the edges ruin the screen for me. If the S7 had been larger I wouldn't have gotten the edge.
I say this as a previous Note 7 owner. The Note 7 edge wasn't so steep and didn't blur out text/pictures that go over the edge anywhere near as bad.
I will gladly buy an S8 edge outright if it holds the design of the Note 7's edge.
Believe that IPS screens have more definition.
Not a bad screen, but if I compare my iPhone 6s Plus between this S7 Edge, iPhone looks more clear.

I personally don't think the clarity is any better, but the colors are far more realistic which may be what causes that thought. While the S7E is better than previous samsung phones I've had, their colors are insanely over saturated. That just is a samsung thing in general. Their TVs are the same way. Most of the stock adjustments are horrible and I could never own one without it needing calibrated.

There are several options in settings > display > screen mode to adjust colors.

I do know about saturation on AmoLed screens. I´m actually comparing both phones right now, and looking closely to them, I can swear iPhone has more like definition, despite of resolution on S7E.
You are right about TVs, their colors are too much strong for me, thats why I prefer LG, curved screens are insane.

Do you have the phone set to WQHD? I was comparing mine to my dads Iphone 6S Plus last night and couldn't tell a difference minus the heavy color saturation. I started using some B&W images to compare to try and remove the color problem. Tried to pick some pictures that were more on the W end than the B end to keep it relatively fair. Used some rather large pictures, larger than either display can show, which also plays a role in which compresses better. WQHD is 2560X1440 and the 6S Plus is 1920X1080. I did not compare two 1080P images and so the Iphone may win here. I can't say for sure.
Now if you were to ask me to compare my old Note 3/4 to the Iphone 6 Plus at the time, I would 100% agree with you.

Yes, on WQHD, on 1080p doesn't have any chance to fight.
I am not sure what it is, just feeling more satisfied with 6s Plus. I have played with Settings on screen for S7E, but it's not close. It may be that I've used my 6s plus for a year and I'm new with the S7E, got used to ips.
Anyhow, I feel same as you with saturation. Samsung could do it better.
I used to own an Iphone 6s and the difference in screen quality is huge.I love my s7 edge!
I really like my S7e in every way but an Iphone 7 plus display looks better to me.
Doesn't really bother me though.

Screens fine, but over saturated to hell and back. Yes it has a color management to help, but it can't fix horribly handled saturation by Samsung.

According to the article from DisplayMate, the the average color error (from sRGB) of the S7 Edge is 1.5 JNCD and broke the previous record for color accuracy. I see no evidence that Samsung was unable to properly calibrate the S7 Edge display in Color Management, as it had the least average color error for smartphone displays at the time of review.

I once bought a Pioneer Kuro 50" Plasma TV. It was, at the time, heralded as the most accurate set available. Display Mate and others did their tests etc and several AV mags used the TV as a reference. It cost me £2700.
I sold it at a £900 loss 6 months later.
Never got on with it and honestly never understood what all the buzz was about. Whilst blacks were deep whites looked ... not white. Worse, in scenes with a lot of white content the brightness dimmed further. The thing also buzzed in tune with brightness levels.
The test reports didn't or hardly did touch on these well known problems often discussed on owner forums.
Moral ... don't believe everything you read.
I also feel that for me a good LCD still has the upper hand in naturalness picture wise overall compared to Amoled which, in comparison, seems over saturated. (I use basic mode and an app called Screen balance)
Other than that, I think the S7E is a good device and I probably will use it another year.
My next phone will likely have an LCD display though unless Samsung change their Amoleds in some ways (or introduce more versatile screen adjustments)
Saturation levels may well also depend on the resolution
If every pixel is used you likely get more Saturation. In Nougat you can lower resolution to HD. I haven't updated yet as I want more S7e user feedback on A7 (I have exceptional battery life on MM and no issues).
I would be interested to hear if anyone noticed less Saturation with reduced resolution, ideally backed up by measurements.

The Honor 5X screen has excellent viewing capabilities outside. Along with a pretty good brightness it also changes the contrast when it detects a lot of light falling upon the frontside. The combination of these two make it quite easy to use in sunlight. Of course the glare might be in the way but then just rotate the phone slightly so that you don't reflect the sun in your eyes...
Screen looks good outdoor with Max brightness. The performance is also good in the dark with minimum brightness settings.

To be fair, no phone meets the might of straight floridian sun beaming down leaving no room for vision. This phone is no different. My iphone 6 is on the same level as this phone. I cant see much out.

LOL...the reflection alone is enough ta' blind ye...
Joking aside, the Honor 5x does well outside, even though the Autobrightness setting is a little slow to compensate (can take a second to recognize it's inside a dark room or outside in full sun). Outside of that it is comparable with many flagship phones over the last couple years in that regard.
I would rate it poor outside in Thai sun with or without auto brightness, iphone 5 onward does little better when I compared .

Max brightness helps in readability but not too much. Expected for a midrange device.

Comparing my G5 with my brothers Samsung J5 at the weekend and I was disappointed with my screen brightness. It was noticeably dimmer and harder to read in the bright sunlight.
Can this be improved?
Any information would be helpful. That's my biggest gripe with this phone

Have you thought it might be a problem with the hardware in your phone? There is no other phone that beats the sunlight readability than my G5, Amoled screens are awful to read in sunlight and other lcd screens even worse. The G5 in sunlight is perfectly readable in full summer sun at 75 % on mine.

Sunlight legibility on this is very very good....but it must be on AUTO brightness control. If you move into bright sunlight you can see the phone brightness jump into boost mode (Like latest gen samsung phones) and it is super readable in direct bright sunlight... As bright as my s7 edge in daylight (and it is BRIGHT). Had a nexus 6P and loved it, but its AMOLED panel was utter pants in bright daylight...lucky if it hit 350 nits. The G5 (and the S7 edge) have very good daylight screens. Recommended outdoor viewing phone.
I think that the software is still a bit buggy with this feature. It works, then it doesn't. I wish I could manually enable it or at least set it to start even if the sunlight is not directly aimed at the sensor. But when it works, it is extremely bright.

It doesn't make any sense.. 100% should have been the maximum. I guess LG didn't want people to use it often and drain the battery quickly.

My guess is that going over 100% it alters the colors to achieve visibility, otherwise it doesn't make any sense, I agree with you

I really don't understand why people love amoled displays, yea it has the best blacks, but the colors are punchy, uncomfortable to the eye and not even close to natural,
On the the other side there is LCD IPS displays which brings a very natural colors, a pleasant to see and not so bad blacks after all especially on The G5, for me AMOLED displays are considered as a disadvantage cuz i prefer natural colors, believe it or not this is one of the reasons i skipped the S7

AMOLED is good for the blacks, but mainly battery efficiency too!
Screen Burn-in could be a bad thing though...

Watching videos is painful all colours look inaccurate and kind of washed out. For average user LG G5 display will be fine. But if someone wants a really stunning display they will go for the Amoled.
Not trying to offend anyone, I think that LG G5 is a great device, I was considering it over S7 Edge for the camera angle but when I found out that there is no root then I just bought S7 Edge other than that many people were complaining about the battery life. I also really like LG System UI.

I found watching videos on the G5 a joy, iam not a fan boy or anything simply saying the truth, i had a galaxy s4, s6 and a nexus 5 before, right now i am using the G5, in my persepctive the G5's display is way better than the one found on the S6, i just hate how the colors look unreal and oversaturated, the moment i held the G5 i was stunned by the brilliant color accuracy and how natural it looked.
For the record i have the international G5 and its rooted????
In my opinion I prefer the IPS Quantum Display which also featured in my LG G4, not like over-saturated colours and light bleed by the LED backlits.
When viewing on the G4 it's fantastic to look at the IPS Quantum Display which feels so close to AMOLED.
If you compare orange screen in IPS Quantum Display versus AMOLED, it clearly shows that orange on the AMOLED looks really red. IPS Quantum Display wins here.

When I was looking for a new phone there was no root for G5.
And I guess You're right . Some people like extreme saturation (me) and some prefer slightly more natural tones. Honestly I think that S7 Edge could be even more saturated but yeah.. I'm addicted to extreme saturation

Fact is, the AMOLED on the S7 used in Basic mode has a very good color accuracy and the Note 5 won the shootout against the iphone 6.
Even the first amoled werent that bad after all. People just thought it was punchy because the other phones were worse in color reproduction and therefore thought it is too punchy.
I switched after 6 years from AMOLED to IPS on the G5, honestly I think both are good with only few disadvantages.

I PREFER QUANTUM IPS QHD OVER AMOLED
I love OLEDs, but am not a fan of AMOLEDs due to their stupid pentile structure. This makes the resolution of the display to 66% of what they've advertised and makes everything look kind of zig-zaggy (if you look at it closely).

I agree I have the s7 and g5 and although the s7 display looks better the g5 seems sharper and if I'm honest in most videos just as good (apart from the super contrast and colors of course )

Rate this thread to express how well you can see the Honor 8 Pro's display outdoors. In case you've been playing Minecraft for 18 months straight, you might not known how to get outside anymore. Well, find the door and walk through it. A higher rating indicates that it has very high maximum brightness and thus fantastic outdoor visibility in direct sunlight.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Outdoor visibility is only so-so. I can see, but I wish it can be even brighter.
It's sufficiently bright for outdoors on the max brightness.

Display has very good colour reproduction and imo a very deep black for a lcd. Overall excellent screen, with wide viewing angles.
There's an option in developer options "Increase readability under sunlight"
People should check it out.

This was checked automatically when I enabled Developer mode, maybe thats why I didnt find it that difficult to view screen while outside.

yes, enabled developer mode and it's checked after that. maybe it's just me... but under certain conditions, it does get difficult to read. that's like rare instances...

Yeah. Not worst. My comments came out of frustration. But, for a phone with 2K display and 30K price, this should have been better. I face lot of readability problems outdoors/under sunlight.
Since it's an IPS display you shouldn't expect the same outdoor visibility that you would get with AMOLED displays.
2K display shines here.

I have only one problem with the Honor 8 Pro and it is it's display brightness. I do not expect OLED levels of brightness from the screen but a little more output would be helpful.
In direct sunlight it is almost impossible for me to see anything. Yes my outdoor visibility more is turned on. No doubt that under some circumstances it is possible to see clearly outdoors but sometimes, especially when keeping it side by side with another device it's simply disappointing.
Coming to the pros of the display, the 2k resolution and the IPS functionality gives this phone super accurate colors and wide viewing angles.
