Moto z " not qualifing for bootloader unlock : - Moto Z Questions & Answers

Hi. After following all the steps Moto Customer Care says " bootloader does not qualify to be unlocked"
What does this mean that Im stuck on this.. is there any workaround to unlock the bootloader.
Thanks in advance

Do you have a Verizon Moto Z or is it a retail one? If it's from a US carrier I think my instructions on flashing a stock firmware would be a very bad idea. They can't be unlocked.

It should be a retail one. Bought it in Malaysia in Jan when I was on holiday there. It worked fine then the Nougat update killed the bluetooth then another security updat the other day killed the wifi. bluetooth works now though.
Any help will be appreciated
Thanks

Ah I see, the only reason I'm concerned is due to the bootloader not unlocking similar to the Verizon ones. If you followed them instructions and it wasn't a retail one it'd likely be bricked. Sorry I don't know much more as I'm new to Moto brand with this phone. Those instructions were identical to what I did to restore mine to stock. I suppose you could also confirm your model is XT1650-03.

Thanks man.Im really not sure y the bootloader request was that it doesn't qualify.im also new to the Moto models. But thanks man.im doing what u said on my other thread about flashing the stock firmware so i let let u know if it's solved.

You're welcome, I hope it works. All I can say is that's what restored stock on my model, really hope it's a normal retail model as it'd be risky otherwise. If you get a blank screen with "error" after like mine did I wouldn't worry as long holding power rebooted into Nougat.

I just don't know y this happened in the first place.A broken ota is just really bad.
Thanks once again

Yeah I don't know how that could happen, surely the OTA wouldn't install if it were corrupted. Saying that I had to factory reset an iPad once after an update broke it. Welcomes :good:

Urgently Need Middle East Stock 510/532 FTF Rom File For Flashing...

I'm stuck on the current 532 Chinese version and it's not letting me upgrade or downgrade.
Been over 6 hours flashing and flashing and I'm having problems with the HK/Asian versions of the stock rom.
Since downgrading from 4.3 to 4.2 my sim no longer works regardless. I'm not getting any signal regardless of what I do.
I bought my Xperia Z Ultra from UAE and would preferably want to use a UAE/Middle Eastern Rom.
Previously I had the FTF file for the Middle East and it worked wonders for me. Unfortunately I've removed and can no longer find it.
Should anyone be kind enough to upload the FTF file or even guide me to a working link I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.

6802. Thanks.
Here you go

Oh, it looks like you've lost your IMEI, and that's why you're not getting a signal. This happens when you downgrade from 4.3 to 4.2. I have no idea why it happens, but it does, so follow this guide to restore your IMEI.
the problem may appear in some models. I downgraded mine from 4.3 to 4.2 without such problem.
p.s you can flash any firmware to your phone, no need to be in UAE. I live in Vietnam and I flashed European 4.3 on mine.

True, however, I had issues with the HK edition of the rom. It had some corruption or file missing since it would't allow me to properly root and when trying to boot in CWM it would't work.

Correct, my imei was 000000000000000. I will refer to the link you provided. Thanks.
I've successfully UPGRADED to 532 Middle East version.
Thanks to everyone for their support and response.
Unfortunately I'm not that technical with regards to flashing and such and usually I spend hours if not a whole day trying to solve a simple issue.
Usually when attempting downgrading, flashing and changing roms and using custom firmware I get stuck half way through.
This ends up with a half working phone, boot loops, etc...
This happened when trying to get the 290 firmware, rooted with root. The part with regards to using a dual recovery was not too clear and this resulted in a bricked device.
I'm now back to stock 532, rooted & happy. To be honest, I didn't see any big differences with 532 and 290.
I cannot live without root. My bootloader is locked and unlocking it is a pain in the ass, lol.
I will patiently wait for the proper update of Android 4.4 Kitkat until I decide on upgrading.
I can only hope there is an easy rooting method of 4.4 when it's released. I don't plan on backing up data, reinstalling everything again, etc...
Let's hope when 4.4 Kitkat is released there is an easy rooting method which doesn't require an unlocked bootloader.

[Q] Need help!!! no service on moto e after flashing stock rom

hello guys, first of all excuse my english its not my main language. i really need your help! about a week ago, i unlocked the bootloader/rooted my moto e XT1021 and put cm12 nightly on it. after a couple of days, it asked me to do a cyanogenmod system update via OTA, so i did. but when it first booted the phone after that, it kept saying that the user UI crashed, everytime. so i couldn't go anywhere on my phone! I tried wiping cache and dalvik cache, nothing worked. so i wiped all the data on my phone and unroot it and put a stock firmware on it. at this point, i saw that i did not have any signal on my phone, but I taught it wasnt really important, so i re-rooted it and I flashed cm12 again. It worked great but i didnt have no service.. so i check on google and all that to see if i could fix this, i tried flashing the rom with TWRP and CWM, and it didnt change anything. I tried flashing an earlier version of the cm12 nightly, didnt work. now i put back the stock rom again, nothing is working! oddly, when i look in about phone > status, I CAN see my phone number and my IMEI are there. but it says that radio is off. for that, i tried doing *#*#4636#*#* in my dialer to go in the phone information menu to activate the radio, but nothing worked. and when i go to my quick settings, I can see that my airplane mode is off, but when i hold the power button and see the shut down options, it tells me that my airplane mode is on! I really dont know what to do, and i really need your help. i know its a long read, but please help me out! if you need more info just tell me maybe i forgot some things.. thanks alot

You most probably flashed the wrong firmware for your device. You need to find the correct firmware or a firmware for the same region, e.g. if you have a UK version device then the EU firmware should work too, but if you flash the Brazilian firmware you will lose GSM signal. If you flash the wrong firmware version and then flash any custom ROM you will still not have GSM signal, so you need to flash the correct firmware and then the custom ROM.
If you are unsure which is the correct firmware for your device, go to bootloader mode, open command window (cmd.exe) and enter the following:
Code:
fastboot getvar ro.build.version.full
You will get the correct firmware version in output.

That is a retail US variant, not sure if it's XT1023 or XT1021 though, you can find out by reading the label on the box of your device.
You can find the stock firmwares for US devices here.
If this doesn't help you then write a post in this thread and OP (lost101) can probably help you out.

Actually i'm not a hero, in fact i was in the same boat as you. I didn't have the stock ROM (or its details) for my device when i flashed CM11 so when i wanted to return to the stock ROM i found an XT1021 US stock ROM thinking that because it's XT1021 it should work on my GB device, i flashed it and the outcome was: no GSM signal. Then i posted in the thread i shared in my previous post and the OP (lost101) found the GB stock ROM for me, i flashed it and got GSM signal back.

I'm not sure why you quoted me but if someone flashes a soap test that is not for their phone then they need not cry when it bricks and yes it could fail on the official update.
I can't imagine why anyone would be dumb enough to flash a soak that someone posts when they will eventually get it without bugs when it's released.

I know what I am doing. I have had many phones and have flashed many different ROMs onto them. Also, it says this on the website linked in the video: "Also, this is only for model no. XT1643, Moto G4 Plus. Update: It is said to be working on all these model nos. XT1643, XT1640, XT1642, XT1622 and XT1626." The only way people would know if it works on those models is if they tried flashing it. It never said that the xt1625 was supported, but it also never said anything about not being supported.
Also to the person who doesn't understand how we could be so "dumb" to flash this, we want a taste of Nougat right now. It isn't too hard to flash back to Marshmallow when the official update comes out. Sure there are bugs in the soak test, but that is to be expected.

Ok, we all know how good you are but for someone with a locked bootloader it's not that easy to fix a soak test problem. Since I've personally officially soak tested previous models of the G phones multiple times I know that a soak test can actually stop an official OTA update. I've even had them push a soak to me that had another carriers bloat in it.

I have to agree with you the youtuber who made the 7.0 installation video above has also made a downgrade back to marshmallow 6.0 tutorial and it downgraded just fine ? i also noticed rite after he downgraded he got a ota update so that obviously means when the official 7.0 starts to roll out anyone who did do a downgrade of the soak test will get the ota update so all this crap about we cant get the official update ota if we flash this soak test is just plain rubbish

You used to be able to unlock it, but Amazon put a stop to that. You just happened to get it unlocked before Amazon stopped it.
will it work on XT1624 ?
So I may give this a shot. I have been rooting and flashing all my phones until the G4 which was perfect for e out of the box. So I wonder if there is any way to revert back to Marshmallow without unlocking the bootloader. Otherwise I might skip it and wait for the official update. Thanks in advance.

Anyone else not able to update via OTA after unlocking and rooting? The updater just crashes on applying update step 3 of 4. And if so is there any way to get the updates back, even if it means losing root?

Ok thank you. I have been looking around and I have not yet found someone who has been successful in unlocking the bootloader on their Verizon Moto Edge+ in USA. I will keep searching.
Hope you find the solution to your problem.
Hmm, this looks promising. Just bought an unlocked S10 (Snapdragon) and will be returning it since it cannot be rooted. Thinking of grabbing the unlocked version of this phone to use on T mobile. It is the same price as what I paid for the S10, so I would only be out the $50 restocking fee. I need root, Adaway, and of course Viper4Android. As of right now, my old rooted Galaxy S4 with Viper4Android absolutely KILLS the S10 in the audio department.

Yes and yes, but there's an easier way.
When an OTA update arrives uninstall magisk (this is only temporary)
Install the OTA and make sure to not restart
Go back to magisk and install but select install to inactive slot (After OTA)
Now you can restart and you're done!
Here's the guide where I got this from
When I tried to restore the back up image for the uninstall step, it says "Stock backup does not exist". Where can I get a stock boot image? Does it have to be Racer xt2063-2 or can it be xt2063-3. This page has variants of xt2063-3, but the Google drives they're stored on have "reached their quotas" so you can't download the images. Those images being stored on a Google drive has me suspicious of motostockrom.com.
What are the variants about? That site not explaining that also makes me suspicious.
Edit: l found a stock boot image here. What is the name of the file Magisk needs to see and where do I put it?

Hmm, this looks promising. Just bought an unlocked S10 (Snapdragon) and will be returning it since it cannot be rooted. Thinking of grabbing the unlocked version of this phone to use on T mobile. It is the same price as what I paid for the S10, so I would only be out the $50 restocking fee. I need root, Adaway, and of course Viper4Android. As of right now, my old rooted Galaxy S4 with Viper4Android absolutely KILLS the S10 in the audio department.

How is that unlocked Edge+ working for you on TMobile?

Question will the s23 ultra have root?

i know all the models will be snapdragon chipsets from what i understand. that said, will there be root? i know the US is prob not gonna see root, but what about the UK/EU models? root for me is a 100% buying factor for anything tech related like phones. thanks.
I've been wrong before but I highly doubt it will happen anytime soon if at all.

if you can unlock the bootloader then you can root it with a magisk patched AP file through odin
I would assume that its the same as with every recent Samsung phone for the last years: you can unlock the Bootloader and flashed a patched AP image - triggering Knox and loosing warranty in some regions....
No need to wait for anything, as rooting has worked on OneUI 5.0 I would hope/assume that it works still for 5.1 as well

Yeah the big difference is now they are using Snapdragon processors on all versions. You probably will still be able to in certain regions but I wouldn't be surprised if they end up being locked down either.
@znel52 and @EtherealRemnant : definitely, its only speculation right now and therefore I just gave the assumption....
I'm still unsure whether I'll take the plunge and root the phone, most probably not at first....
yes, they will have unlockable bootloaders in most likely all other regions than the USA
think back to 2014, most of samsung's phones (galaxy s4, s5) were snapdragon based, and almost all of them (besides the USA variants) were unlockable (USA variants usually got exploited after tho, since touchwiz was filled with bugs)
so we have no reason to think samsung wont 2014 us again, which in that case its the best, since that was samsung's peak..

Okay, if you can, continue the process. Let us know if you can fully bootloader unlock and root. Just toggling that switch doesn't enable true bootloader unlock, it's just one step of it
