Tablet Z2 (SGP521) very, very, really very slow (boottimes) - Xperia Z2 Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Recently I purchased a Sony Xperia Tablet Z2 (SGP521). The previous owner sold the tablet, because the tablet frooze at the Sony logo during boot up. This was caused after he performed a firmware upgrade. I hoped this was an easy fix by just reflashing the firmware, but it turns out not to be...
I tried to repair it with "Xperia Companion", but no succes. Then I flashed with "Flashtool" a stock Lollipop version, still no succes. I tried the next morning to leave it booting for an hour and it booted! But Android was very unstable, slow and randomly rebooted. Next I flashed the KitKat version and this time it booted in about 15~20 minutes. Not great, but at least it was more stable with occasionally stutters.
So the initial problem was I guess very, very, but really very slow boot times.
So I hoped to be able to unlock the bootloader, so I could install a recovery and/or a custum ROM. Unfortunately the service menu (and also Flashtool) stated this was not allowed. Also discovered the counters of the SIM lock were al zero...
Despite the very slow boot time, the interface in KitKat runs rather smooth. Almost looks like it runs on the 2 cores with a low clock frequency and is pointing in the direction of a hardware failure.
This is as far as I can get with my knowledge. I hope somebody has experience with this and knows a solution. I would really appreciate it.

Archos G9 101 250GB crashes

Hey!
One week ago, I bought my Archos G9 and since then my device crashes around 7-8 times a day. I have the newest firmware with root enabled on my device and disabled everything I could imagine (window animations, gps, etc.).
I have know idea why it crashes. There is no special pattern. One moment it crashes during browsing, the other while playing doodle jump, etc. Maybe it's because of the 512MB RAM? I already put a swap file on my device, but it didn't help at all...
hope you can help!
Ram has nothing to do with crashes. Try rooted firmware without custom busybox, download in Modified Init thread (custom busybox seems to be responsible for quite some problems)
tapatalked from Desire
thanks for reply!
My device is already running on this custom rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1480906
EDIT: Seems like there is something wrong with the CPU... while performing the SetCPUs stresstest, my device crashed. Is it a general Archos G9 problem, or a specific problem with my device? I also noticed, that the back gets relativly hot... This happens only while i charge it.

When i first bought mine it also crashed every now and then and what i did was a full reset from the settings . Since then no more crashes on apps , so give it a try
If u dont need it, make sure bluetooth and gps are off, that always seemed to help me

I've had mine for 10 days now. I haven't rooted it yet - it's running the stock 3.2.80 firmware.
For the first 4 or 5 days, it seemed fairly stable - odd reboots, but nothing too bad.
Now, it won't stay running for more than 2 or 3 minutes from reboot before it freezes and I have to long-press the power button to shut it down. Sometimes it just reboots on it's own. But after each reboot, it stays running for less time than the last. If I let it lie down for a few hours, it will return to running for 2 or 3 minutes before freezing or rebooting again.
Mine also seems to get pretty warm on the back.
I've tried getting an RMA number from the Archos website, but that page doesn't work (shows a MySQL error!). Had to resort to emailing their support team a couple of days ago, but still waiting for any response.
I wish I had bought it from Play.com instead of direct from Archos - at least I could have returned it easier. All in all, I'm not very impressed so far.
BTW, I did do a full, factory reset, but it's made no difference.
Nothing worked, i already deactivated GPS and bluetooth and did a factory reset too.
I think I'll wait for the ICS update and hope, that archos will fix the problem... I don't think it's a hardware issue...
Try 3.2.79 version, IMO it works overall better than 3.2.80 but I can't test 3g stick. Wifi however behaved better on .79.
Note- you can't downgrade official firmware (AFAIK)
I believe there is a way of downgrading official firmware - I may give 3.2.79 a go.

GT-I9300 UI stucks randomly

Hi Everyone,
Recently my phone got crazy!
I used it as stock for a long time, until 3 weeks ago when it started being slow (a few weeks after updating from 4.0.4 to 4.1.2), crashing and getting stuck a lot.
I did a factory reset, not before I rooted it and backed it up with Titanium Backup. That's where things took a turn for the worse.
The factory reset didn't solve anything. Phone kept on crashing.
Next I tried to install a custom ROM (Samsung JB based) and a custom kernel. UI responsiveness got much better, of course, but it didn't prevent the phone from crashing. Tried different kernels and still, nothing.
Yesterday I did a full NAND wipe using ODIN and reinstalled everything using HydRx-D ROM. Things actually got a little better, and the phone UI gets stuck much less frequently.
Still, this is very frustrating, and I can't find a solution anywhere.
I'm attaching a logcat from this morning. The phone worked perfectly for 2 hours straight. Read a few articles, made a few phone call - nothing out of the ordinary. Then it got stuck right after a phone call ended.
Now you probably ask why do I always say that the UI stucks. Well, it always starts with being very laggy for a few seconds and then the foreground app gets stuck, but then I can still swipe down from above to see the notification panel and it always gets stuck on the way down. Also, it mostly gets stuck after a phone call. There was this funny case where I had a phone call using my bluetooth headset, and the phone actually got to BOOT SCREEN while I was still talking. When I finished talking, I had to hard reset the phone to get it work.
I'm really lost about this. If it was my PC I'd definitely know what to do about it, but my experience with Android ends with this phone, my TF101 and a couple of other phones/tablets I got to play with.
Thanks in advance for everyone who's willing to help.
Re: GT-I9300 IU stucks randomly
This unfortunately sounds like the kind of thing that happens before the sds strikes.
Will have a look at the log but I'm no expert in these matters,I suggest you read the sds thread and compare symptoms

Stuck entering recovery

UPDATE: SOLVED
Here I am again,
Story
I've been using a HTC One since April , but I keep maintaining my GS3 (I9300) that my girlfriend uses now.
I keep maintaining it because it keeps needing maintenance. I always use stable ROM's and no custom kernels or other modifications, because she just wants a normal working phone. Sadly, it's been problems after problems. First of all, after using CM10 for months starting in April, the phone just stopped working. I still don't understand what happened. It started performing worse and worse, until it wouldn't even boot up anymore. Anyway, I managed to get a stock ROM on it after sadly deleting everything of her phone. The phone at least worked again.
Recently, I decided to flash something different for her because it was such a laggy old ROM. I flashed ARHD 40 (android 4.3) since I use ARHD on my HTC One as well and it's usually very stable. The performance was way better now, her phone was as fast as my HTC One. Though she became aware of one problem quite quickly: the phone takes anywhere from 5 seconds to 1 minute to wake up from sleep. I even called her and it wouldn't appear because the phone was not waking up.
Now here comes the problem
Running ARHD 40 (android 4.3), I decided to flash Boeffla-Kernel 5.1beta12 (newest I could find). As far as I read, this would fix the slow/not waking up from sleep.
Now here comes the real problem
I needed to boot into recovery to flash this kernel. Since this ROM didn't have a quick boot into recovery shortcut, I decided to download ROM Toolbox Lite. First of all to see what it's about, since I recalled hearing nice things about it. And it had a boot into recovery option, so that would be easy.
I pressed the button to go into recovery.
Since then, my phone is completely stuck, constantly trying to boot into recovery but failing. You see it's trying (the 4 buttons at the bottom appearing from the recovery) and sometimes even the wallpaper shows up. But it always stops, after which it reboots and I see the logo. And this keeps repeating over and over again.
I removed the battery a few times, I tried holding down the power button a long time, to force it to just boot itself up normally again. I can enter download mode, though I have nothing there to help me. Phone is basically completely useless.
My question
Does anybody know anything about this? Is it a known problem? Is my first experience with this ROM Toolbox Lite the most horrible one ever, or does it play no role in the problem?
It was to late to start searching for solutions yesterday evening, I had to work early again today and I was so pissed I would have broken the damn plastic thing in two. So I just decided to leave it and my girlfriend is passing this day without one. But I'm really sure I want to fix the damn thing when I get home in a few hours. If possible, to just make it stable, fast and NORMAL, with no more weird problems in the future...
Thanks in advance!
Kind regards

What do you mean "can enter download mode, though I have nothing there to help me" What happens exactly when you enter download mode....Can't you just flash back to stock with odin in download mode ?
Edit:..Have you tried ADB into recovery or tried this >>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1703488 <<< toolkit

I can enter download mode normally, so I can use Odin to flash stuff.
I just flashed that kernel I wanted to flash before my phone went trippin, but after flash the same continues. Re-downloading ARHD 40 via my laptop now and going to reflash it via odin, hope that my phone can then let go of it's obsession of trying to get into recovery.
There must be a way to fix this, I didn't make a Titanium Backup for a while. Don't want to lose stuff just because I got some super rare weird problem... again. Why does tech hate me
EDIT:
Realized that I can't flash ARHD 40 because it only comes in zip not tar... anyway, tried flashing the newest version of philz touch recovery, still didn't change anything.
EDIT 2:
Flashed TWRP recovery via ODIN, now everything is fine again. It rebooted into TWRP normally, then choose to reboot the device. Everything is still there, like nothing ever happened.
THANK you lord!
Out of interest, how do you find the HTC 1 compared to the S3?

It's an entirely different phone, especially how it feels and looks. After using the One for such a long time, I find it super weird to hold a S3.. it feels so light and "cheap", though ergonomically the S3 is a tad easier to hold then the One. Overall I enjoy using the HTC One much more as it feels really solid.
Besides that it's fast and stable, what you would expect, but not much faster then a S3 with a good ROM. Screen is really excellent, this is also a big difference from the S3. It's a different type of screen and you can really notice. The speakers are the nicest you can get on a phone and compared to the S3 they are really a league above. The camera is average, sometimes it's great sometimes it isn't. Battery life is comparable to the S3.
Not that I didn't enjoy my S2 and S3 at the time, but I'm not really interested in the Galaxy line anymore at the moment. Samsung really has to do something amazing to get my attention again Will see what HTC brings with the successor of the HTC One, might upgrade to that one. I'm also curious about the iPhone 6 to be honest, the small screen is the main reason I haven't owned an iPhone in my life, if that changes I might want to try it. Or I might just use my current device for a second year for a change, since it's excellent
Many thanks for that, I now intend to take a look at the new HTC m8 - hoping the camera is better!
Me too. If they make a big leap with the camera and bring it on par with the iPhone 5S for example, it would be fantastic. Battery life should also be brought to the new higher standards of the LG G2.
If these 2 things happen they already got me, since it's a near perfect phone. Add some bonuses like making the bezels smaller/screen larger in the same body... don't think I could resist

[Q] Xperia Ultra increasingly slow/ unresponsive screen

To keep things simple, I had a cracked screen on the Ultra which was replaced last week. However now the phone screen is slow and unresponsive after about a minute of use (fast & like new after right turning on however).
Ive tried the mod tweak found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2522657
As well as the thermal screen calibration here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2470070
There is no change with either mode. Cleaning with alcohol only works for a few minutes, and yes Ive removed the ASF for no change.
It should be noted that when booted at first minute or two, the touch inferface is quick and brilliant. After a minute or so it gets slower and remains so. Typing a text is a gruelling affair at that point,
Ran 4.3 android and updated to 4.4.4 and also no change in performance.
Does anyone have any ideas/ tips or pointers?
HELP!?!
An app with a memory leak?
Looks quite normal. RAM 1.1GB used; 600MB free.
Unless thats not what were talking about?
EDIT: might be up to something. using advanced kill on Go taskmanager EX and its seemed to do improve the situation in the short term. Will keep testing
Well got about that far thus far. The advanced kill works sometimes, but none of the apps look out of whack (from my basic knowledge anyhow)
Any help/ links in diagnosing a memory leak would be very appreciated.
Don't suppose you've got the Google now launcher? I had to uninstall as they introduced a memory leak in the last update.
Un updated it just in case.
Its tough as even watchdog lite isint detecting much. com.google.android.gms:snet at startup took 22% CPu but otherwise its steady.
Grr jezz I even did a factory reset to 4.4.4 and its still there. Would trying a custom rom help?
Well as an update manage to completely wipe and reinstall the OS. No change in performance however
Does anyone know if a faulty screen install could be to blame for this?

Could well be, but i find it strange that it acts normal again after a reboot? That alone indicates that it's something wrong with the software. I still hold a finger on a process gone wild. Do you have Recovery installed? If yes, re-flash the ROM or flash something else and see if that solves it. I would personally flash a stock ROM and flash it with Flashtool so you don't have to root or void any warranties, and it'll be the simplest thing to do in case the screen is still acting weird after flash, and you want to get it checked out again (since it most certainly will be a hardware issue at that point).
So, fire up Flashtool, download a complete stock ROM (TFT), flash it, test it. Is it working fine now? Sweet. Keep using the ROM. Is it still the same thing? Contact the repair center again and tell them what's up and please do tell them that you've already done a factory reset, since that's the first thing they'll do themselves. Do not tell them about Flashtool or any other hacks or tweaks. They'll probably blame you if they think that you're an XDA user. "Oh, so you've been playing with it, and you bricked it and wanna fix it for free, bla bla".
Ask if they can open the device again and check that everything is fine and that you haven't received a faulty panel.
Ive actually did a complete tft flash of the original xperia ultra software. No change whatsoever vs previous state.
Im increasingly suspecting a hardware issue. Could it be a poorly plugged in cable? Its random chugging/ smooth response is completely confusing...

Did you flash the exact same FTF that you've always used, or did you flash one from a different region? I would try the GPe ROM if i were you, just to be sure, but don't bother doing it if you're not rooted and ready to flash. Yes it can easily be a hardware issue, and you should probably contact Sony or your nearest service center.
As an update I tried installing a fresh tft flash of a different build but same issue.
Notably noticed that the notification light on the screen is not working at all, so currently looks like a hardware issue. Will keep updated for reference & visit a repair centre

M4 Aqua - Blue screen / boot loop?

Hey all,
My gf has an M4 Aqua.
She has never done anything with it.
No root, no custom roms etc.
Suddenly today phone shut down, Sony logo appeared, blue booting waves and then just pure blue screen.
She did the Software Recovery via Xperia Companion.
It booted normally, she set up everything (although she said it was running very slowly) and while she was just in the home screen it shut down again and did the same thing.
She clicked the red reset button and it booted fine.
Edit: Shut down and blue screen again.
Edit2: After Software Recovery she is on 6.0.1 now.
Edit3: Even when idle it gives the blue screen after some time.
Any ideas why that is happening, how to fix it permanently?
I've seen posts but people said the Software Recovery helped them which is sadly not working for us.
We just need to wait till next month so she can give this one for proper service check.
Is this a hardware issue? I've never encountered a pure blue screen on Sony before.
Cheers, thanks for any help.
Hello friend, i have an xperia m4 aqua dual, same problem than yours, already used xperia conpanion 3 times trying to solve the problem, the cellphone works like a charm for 10min and the problem gets back again, blue screen if i launch some app like facebook and running slooooow, i have read that this is a hardware failure, but don't know what is the ic failure.
Edit: Now i found the problem, the xperia has 2 module of 1gb of ram on the motherboard, when the phone boots (congrats no blue screen) you can go and see how much RAM it haves, it will just show 883mb of total RAM. so... 1 module of RAM is dead.
Edit²: Saw on the xperia forum that sony is pushing an new update on xperia companion, solved the problem of ram and blue screen for some people, i will give i try later today, can be just a software problem.

Hey mate, thanks for the reply!
Will check RAM and try the Xperia Companion again. Gonna update soonish with the results.
It happens alike, ram, blue screen, and in my case at first had problems with the network signal (it was for a while), and the camera (worked sometimes in or out an error log . So YouTube I found this:
Apparently there is a problem with this smartphone after a period of use, and seeking information on the internet apparently called blue screen of death, and happened to the iPhone 5 and even g3 lg, but in this smartphone presents with different symptoms. Unfortunately in my case it is out of warranty two months ago
By the way the new version of PC Companion commenting here will not let me install it, I get a kernel32.dll error in Windows, but the previous version if you install without problems, someone knows what is due?

Thanks for the vid. Good to know it's kind of popular. My gf gives it to service today so we won't check ram etc. But ye this is a bit of a ****ty phone.
These memory problems, speaker broke now this.
I hope they gonna give her a new one.
Also check a statutory warranty (i think that's how it's called) in your country.
Here in Poland apart from the producers warranty we have a warranty from the seller. (its a law)
If seller sells us a product that breaks (no matter if it's producer fault) they need to repair it or exchange for a working one.
This warranty is valid for 2 years.
i updated my xperia m4 , the problem got worse, can't pass the blue screen now, just a constant boot loop of blue screen, i never want a xperia again --'

The phone is sent to service, she'll probably get a new one.
Thanks for the tip though!
Had the same blue screen after installing a incompatible xposed module. But i had not that ram problem. It sometimes booted and sometimes reboot at bluescreen. Re-flashed firmware using newest Flashtool (include "wipe Sin, wipe Misc TA") blue screen was gone.
