Lg k7 as330 - LG K7 Questions & Answers

Hey, I'm sort of new to the whole Android scene and I've been trying to root my phone for about a week without any success, is this phone not able to be rooted at all? If so, is there any possibility of doing so in the future?

Easy
I rooted mine with Kingroot. Easy as eating a peanut butter sandwich.

I've tried rooting mine with KingRoot and other tools but they all keep failing, not quite sure why..

Well dig around these forums. There are several different methods available.

Yeah I've pretty much tried most of the automated / manual methods and none of them seem to do the job, it's most likely an unsupported version.

Twrp recovery includes a rooting method when you boot it up for the first time.
Search around, you need the twrp Img file and an unlocked bootloader to flash it from.

[Q] Don't know what's wrong...

I'm new to rooting and the whole android scene. Just bought my s4 a month ago and rooted it this week. I've been trying to customize themes and icons and I know I need to deodex the files on my phone. I downloaded universal deodexer and dropped the files where I needed to but the program wouldn't run. My question is, is there any other way to deodex the files and how exactly do I locate them? Maybe I didn't locate the right ones.
First off, its pretty cool that you are actually trying to learn what you are doing. The initial learning curve is pretty big but you will get the hang of it piece by piece. I can't speak for everyone but I as still learning and started with the Droid years ago. Take a look at this post for some useful info. Credit to Obsidian for the definitions and links. Just take note that some of his definition do not apply to this phone since it was created for the Bionic, but most of the info is helpful and universal.

Now, to answer your question. Honestly I would flash a pre-deodexed rom and use it to modify things. A few are in the Samsung Development section that are basically TouchWiz minus the bloat. You may even find one there that suits you perfectly with no extra modding.

check out the youtube channel of DroidModd3rX... find his video titled "Verizon Galaxy S4 How To Unbrick, Unroot, Return to Factory Set"... even if you don't have a Verizon GS4 this will help you if you bricked your device. If you have a different Carrier than verizon then check out "wwjoshdew" channel on youtube........ check out his video titled "How To Unroot and Flash your Galaxy S4 to Stock Android 4.2.2"..... I'm sorry i didn't find you earlier.:crying: ........ this might help you to not pay where you "voided your warranty... please please please do this if you can get your phone back from the company. It will re-warranty your device.
It's ok, I found that video on you tube, and a couple others. I tried all their methods for I bricking, but to no avail. Now all it says is "firmware upgrade error. Please continue in Kies". But it won't let me do anything else.

Even ODIN?
Yea i tried Odin, 3.07 and I tried three different stock images and none of them worked. It got to a part during the process that said "Auth (fail)" and then it would close out the program. I just got my replacement yesterday but I'm kind of afraid to root it again lol.
Although I would really like to root it again, since half of the stuff I used it for had nothing to do with what caused the problem in the first place. I was just really excited to download and install a custom room that didn't lag as much as this nonsense from Samsung.

Your original problem sounded like you were trying to flash the mdk firmware on a me7 firmware which would cause auth fail in odin.
But I couldnt find any info above. If you did the the me7 root method you wont have write permissions because boot loader is locked. which would brick your phone when you flash a rom.
Is the me7 root method the one that roots through the micro SD? Is there a way to do so and unlock the bootloader currently or has one not been released yet for the newest Verizon update?

if you did it through terminal then yes. you are on me7 which is why odin gave you problems. currently there is no way to unlock the bootloader. only the firmware previous to me7 can unlock it. So you might be stuck for a while.
Well that's kind of a drag. Installing custom ROMs is the only thing that an unlocked bootloader does? Or is there another reason to root the phone now instead of waiting for a root that unlocks it? Sorry for all of the questions...

did you update to the new update that the phone was bugging you about when you first got your phone? if yes, then, YOU CANNOT FLASH ANYTHING! OR IT WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE. if you haven't, then, thank the good Lord that you didn't fall into the samsung trap. you can check on Settings/mydevice/about_phone/Build_Number.... i believe the last frace would say me7... if then, you're kinda screwed for now... if you have something else than youre ok:good:... If you're verizon you WANT TO HAVE "MDK" as your last 3 characters on your build number. MDK= ......Good luck!

root still lets you uninstall or freeze that bloatware on your phone. Only thing I used iy for anyways. have about an extra 400mb of ram freed.
Well that is good to know in case I decide to go through with rooting again. Is there a way to uninstall that update? Or am I stuck waiting for a new method to root the phone that allows flashing? I might root again just to have some of the apps like gmd gesture and greenify.

no you cant do anything right now besides the root. cant uninstall because the bootloader is locked.
some rooted apps are nice to have. just gonna have to wait patiently
In that case, are there any apps you would suggest getting that won't destroy my phone again? I checked online for a list of must-have apps but half of them were directed at people who were experienced with rooting.

I would just get titanium backup for now. and remove some bloatware a safelist can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314265 would not experiment with deleting random things it could cause brick problems nothing much else. if you are not comfortablr with that just try and wait for bootloader to be unlocked which has no eta
I may just do that. If I were to root again on me7 since there's no unlock method, if one were to be released would I be screwed or is there normally a way to do that at a different time than the root?

Where to start with Metro PCS P769 v10b

To be honest, I'm totally lost and paranoid about jacking up this phone. I've been trolling for a couple weeks and I'm just so lost with so many different methods and not really any success stories using this metro pcs version. It's been like a year since I rooted my last phone and it was WAY easier than this mess, although it wasn't an LG.
All I really need at the moment is root access so I can move apps to sd cause that's just annoying. What is the best possible method to root the metro version of this phone today. I came across [ROOT][JB] New Easy Root Method For Jellybean, but I don't have spritebud. Could I use the LG update tool to upgrade to a newer tmo version and try again, or should I give the Lelus method a try?
Thanks!

[Q] Updated to 4.3. Is it too late to root?

So I had plugged my device in to my computer, and it updated to 4.3. I did a factory reset, but it is too late. Does this mean my bootloader is now locked without a way to unlock at the moment? I came across ★ [Rom][I605VRUEMJ9][4.3] Stock Root Odex/Deodex [12/08/13]★ - xda-developers but it appears that I need an unlocked bootloader in order to flash it. Any advice on what I can do? I tried the instructions at Root I605VRUEMJ9 - Verizon Galaxy Note 2 SCH-I605 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Firmware | True Android | #1 Custom Android Resource but got a failed (and am now worried that the KNOX counte ris stuck at 0x1.

For the moment, yes. Attempting to return to a previous stock ROM, even via ODIN, will fail - I tried this myself last night. ODIN hangs on trying to install the last part of the ROM (the bootloader, if I remember right). If you do try to use ODIN to restore a stock ROM, you will need to run a repair install of the 4.3 ROM (you'll lose all data on the phone). Fun stuff.
So in short, we're locked & unrooted if we update using the official update via Verizon's update software.

You can try to root with kingo (google it, xda won't allow links to it) but you may be out of luck on unlocking the bootloader again unless someone finds another exploit.

I saw references to kingo, but it looked sketchy. Can you tell more about it, and perhaps why XDA doesn't allow links?

Nothing I can tell you that you can't find searching for it. Plenty of conversations about it already. No need for another one really.

Unless someone has found a root method for one of the other Samsung 4.3 builds, you better go out to your nearest wholesale store and buy the jumbo size of Vaseline.

Yup. Bootloader is locked. That's why there's a sticky saying not to take OTA's.

Aren't both the S4 and N3 4.3 builds rooted? Maybe you're thinking bootloader unlocking???
After OTA my n2 lost root.
I can also confirm, that Kingo roots the N2 after taking the Verizon OTA, but the bootloader remains locked. For me acquiring root again was great, because I use the Xposed framework a lot and many other apps that need root. As for the bootloader, I'm sure that sooner or later, one of the great devs will kick butt and get it unlocked. For those guys that challenge is like an itch.

Wouldn't bet on it. S4 and Note 3 are both locked and will likely remain that way. Never say never but the likelihood is slim.
You're right and honestly as long as I have, root I don't care much anymore. If it happens great, if it doesn't ok. Sooner or later we will upgrade to a new toy. Lol

accidentally let it update to 4.3, how do I root my phone now?

I think I might have accidentally let my VZW Note II accidentally update to 4.3. (although I swear that it did it by itself without my permission. or it that not possible? I have denied it for a long time)
Anyway, what are the chances of rooting the phone now? How do I root it?
Thanks!

Rooting can be done using Saferoot and framaroot and others.
But be advised as said previously. . This will not allow you to have a custom recovery like TWRP, Philz or CWM and install custom roms! Unless it has a unlocked bootloader. As of now theres no simple friendly way to do this anymore. Only solution is to have mobiletechvideos downgrade your chip and send it out to them for a service fee. There highly recommended on here for doing this. Hopefully a fix will be released soon as many people are working on this.
Good luck

You got the answers on rooting, I would just add that yes after a period of time of you denying the update it will just do it on its own. In the future root and freeze the update program. In this case SDM 1.0

XDA developer h311sdr0id made a post a while back to help out with rooting the sch-i605 on 4.3. You can find his post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2608827
I'm still on 4.1.2, so I haven't had to use it yet, but this seems to be the method that a lot of other people are using to root their devices on 4.3.
Thanks to k1mu for posting the root method and h311sdr0id for pointing it out for the Note 2.

I think I must have read too many threads and got confused.
After using Saferoot, I was able to root in less than 5 minutes.
The only problem now is that I have no idea why I want or need root at all. Are there any interesting apps that require root?

You can use titanium backup and restore apps. You can also download xposed framework and there are some random mods with that and you can also disable ads with ad blockers. Honestly that's pretty much all I use it for. I'm pretty upset this happened to me. Somehow I managed to overlook where it says you can just unroot in within SuperSU. Lol.

Now if I can just manage to find an updated version of TWRP for this phone that I can flash via AutoRec.
Once you are rooted TWRP manager from the Play Store will do all that for you also.

The issue though with unrooting is it just removes root, but does not put the G3 back into stock condition. If you look under settings->About Phone->Software info, you'll see it shows it as "Modified" which means no OTAs will be accepted more than likely. The only way to go back to pure stock is to flash via KDZ or TOT images, which wipes your phone. That's the only way to get back to pure stock where it won't show modified as the status.
To learn more about the G3, I would suggest going to the following post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/help/help-thread-lg-g3-question-t2947298
From reading through that post, I learned everything I needed to about the LG G3 when I was considering switching to it and knew that I would be able to flash ROMs, root, etc. It is what sold me on getting the phone.
