what's your average SOT? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 Questions & Answers

hello... i ask you this just for my curiosity... i own a note 3 pro kate and i reach about 7/8 sot and i've read somewhere that the sd625 is capable of increase about 20% the battery life, so i suspect that EVERY note 4 SD owner should easily reach 10 h SOT....right?
i've also seen the gsmarena testing of this model and it's quite STRANGE it surpassed the browser time of the lenovo p2.....
ok p2 uses amoled and browser simply display white pages BUT 5100mah vs 4100 should give better results.... NOT LOWER ONES.
i don't think i'm going to switch mi note 3 pro for the 4 atm ......unless i find a friend which to i can resell it :cyclops::cyclops::cyclops:

battery life between note 3 pro and redmi 3 pro

hi,
i'm planning to get either 1 of the phones mentioned in the title, does anyone know which one has better battery performance?
rn3 use more power because of larger screen (5.5" vs 5"), more pixels (FHD vs HD), more powerful processor & gpu
It's gives me 1 full day easily even with moderate usage... Eg. 3hrs music, 1hr30min Movie, some calls, 3G/Wi-Fi on mostly, some pics, some videos and I still have 20% remaining..
I find this good..
Redmi Note 3 32GB ROM 3GB RAM
From what I've heard they're pretty much the same (around 10h sot).
friend has redmi 3 and it get almost every time about 12h sot (never under 10h sot) and 2 days of use with calls, messaging, browsing, games. this phone has really good battery backup, better then rn3
I sold Redmi 3 Pro. I got there ~10-12 SoT. I now have Redmi Note 3 Pro... but you need to wait for me to report it (i got it today).
Mention me after ~5 days.
Getting 3 days usage on miui , 2,5 on cm13 . Around 10-12 sometimes 13h SOT

Nope, Redmi 3Pro is much better. Got both of them with xiaomi.eu Rom.
10h with Redmi 3 Pro = no problem

yes, it should be...
but both r3p and rn3p report around 10h SoT.
I have rn3p and can confirm I usually get around 10h SoT with MIUI/AOSP/CM13
Nope, I mean real use, over 50 Apps, with WA, gaming...
Redmi Note 3 Pro about ~8h
Redmi 3 Pro +10h
But the Redmi Note 3 Pro is much better (650 is much better).
Strange question really. Completely different phones for different segments. Both have excellent battery life, the decision should be between size and processor etc. For me the RN3P is a fantastic value in terms of performance/price/battery life. I don't think anything can match it based on those three criteria.
Just from my experience with the RN3 Pro:
Battery life is fantastic, imo. Easily lasts for 3 days every-day use without ever getting near a point where I really look for the next charge (<15%). Even playing demanding games I would estimate it will last for more than 5 hours (haven't played that long yet, though).

Heavy use endurance

Playing Candy Crush for 22 hours straight can take its toll on your battery (and your marriage). Rate this thread to express how the Honor 8 Pro's battery performs under heavy use. A higher rating indicates that it lasts a long time even when playing games, streaming video and audio, and doing other CPU-intensive activities.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Not very impressive. When I'm playing games like Pokemon Go, the use isn't any different from other phones. While the phone have 4k battery, the advantage isn't that clear cut.
I have a different view, when I've been playing say Hearthstone for 3 hours, I don't see any heavy drain of the battery, the drain is similar to normal web browsing.
Our differences could easily be tributed to signal strength.
For me the heavy usage endurance was not that good! Even with normal usage that includes mail, WhatsApp, some browsing, and calls for like 2 hours, I could only get 6 hours of usage! Thereafter I had to charge! And this was quite continuous usage.

With a 5.7 inch 2k screen, that's quite good. I feel so.

Good Endurance for me
I have been testing it with multiple games, running benchmarks , watching videos and making calls etc.. The drain is very minimal compared to other phones I used. The battery lasts more than a day under normal usage. My normal usage includes watching youtube videos, few hours of gaming and whatsapp/facebook . So I think for a phone with big 2k display, its doing a wonderful job!

i guess i need to clarify my post/ feedback. for me... it's nothing special impressive. not to say it's bad, but just that it's performing like it should with other phones. it's not draining battery but i'm also not seeing extra endurance on this phone even though it packs a 4K battery.
i guess it's partly to do with the 2K screen.
and yes, if i'm not going on sth resource intensive like PoGo, the phone can actually last me the day.
Dissapointing
Below average ,even my old RN3's battery out wins it ,same game ,similar handling ,of course there is an QHD resolution factor ,but Honor 8 pro's battery ,one word ,inferior

The 2k screen has its effect on battery. It's not inferior per se but it's also not brilliant. It's so so.
I am expecting the future updates to improve the battery performance.

9 hours + Sot is simply amazing
Unbelievable
I'm using Zenfone max pro m1 I do usally have god & mobile data on all time for me it is just 5 hours to 6hours !
And to be frank I fell this is similar or less to my previous Redmi note 4 !!
Was expecting more I think all due to miui optimisation
im getting insane 12 Hours SOT....maybe bcz im using only a single 4g sim and wifi most of the time but this is still great battery backup
I got this one.
Good enough for me.
Great battery life with 45mins of gaming, lots of YouTube, browsing, chatting, camera, etc with 4G connection full time 4G connection.
Getting great screen-on time with Asus Pro M1, best I have seen in my experience of use on any Android Device. Getting SOT of over 12 hours plus with 33 percent battery still left in the tank. My usage has been 90 percent of the time on WiFi and 10 Percent on 4g , with continues browsing , updating of all the old apps, few pics, streaming 15mins of youtube and checking msgs on WhatsApp with display brightness set to 20 percent, Rest all of the apps in the background are disabled to use any data or notifications turned off and battery saver n data saver both enabled . This device is absolutely beast in terms of battery life, fantastic for any kind of user, I am expecting to hit close to 14:30 hrs to 15 hrs SOT with such usage.
Using this phone today for heavy gaming such as arena of valor, crossfire legends, and pubg. And also streaming music from soundcloud on my trip, it takes 4 hours streaming. On 4g mostly. So yeah, it's my heaviest usage I guess.
Looking good though.

Looking good you say ? My Mi Max 2 could do 12-15hours of SoT. Looks like Pro M1 doesn't optimised well even tho its 5000mah but last just like the Redmi Note 4 with 4000mah..Too bad asus..too bad. Hoping for MiUI rom for it

No, it's my heavy usage test. That usage test based mostly on gaming and music streaming for long time. I'm not testing the normal usage yet.
And I've used Nokia Lumia 640 XL. Trust me. The battery performance is on par with this phone when I used it also for gaming. And for normal usage, the battery backup is enough for 2 days (which is I haven't tested on my asus yet). Better than redmi note 3 imo.

So that 7hrs of SoT was a heavy usage ? Sounds like a disappointment to me. My Mi Max 2's minimum SoT always get 12hrs SoT without fail with heavy usage..15hrs if using 100% wifi

Good battery life on this thing!
But could be more optimized ?
Almost matching up with my Lenovo P2's Beast Battery (The record was 19 Hours SOT)!!
My device gives 9hrs to 12 hrs of sot. Always on 4g , 2 hrs of gaming (tekken) , rest wtsapp , youtube web browsing etc.

Unhappy with Mi 9 battery draining and SOT, thinking about changing for mate 20 ...

Hi all.
I have written a comment to another created threat, but I would like to read your comments here too.
I'm having battery draining and SOT problems with my mi 9, like I said in title (like most people I think).
I have tried everything to improve my battery life in my mi 9, and It's not bad at all, but I was expecting better performance for a top xiaomi smartphone with sd 855 and 5 months old in spite of the fact that it has "only" 3300mah battery ...
I'm not a heavy user and I try to get max SOT and minimum battery drain in all my phones, because I don't like changing smartphones very often and I like to take care of it.
I came from a Moto G4 plus, and I had 5h of SOT in 48h without high standby drainage (maybe 1-2% of drainage overnight in 7-9h) with a 3 years old battery and worst hardware and software. In mi 9, I'm getting 5-6h of SOT in 48-72h. Not bad at all, but standby drainage is awfull. It loses 20-25% of the battery every 48h (3-5% overnight), and in a smartphone with such a fair battery it's a problem. If I'm not getting great results with not heavy use and my smartphone is new, I don't want to think in 2-3 years + mid-heavy use ... I have tried everything (full wipes, reinstalling, the most powerfull battery saving, etc) and I don't have great result. Standby drainage is very hight compared to other phones (I have tried a friend poco f1 and I had 10h in 48-72h with 1% overnight drainage. It was awsome).
And now the question ...
I'm thinking of changing my mi 9 for a huawei mate 20... I still have the 30d Amazon refund and I am not comfortable with my phone's battery.
- Mate 20 pros vs mi 9: +700 mah battery and more efficient, the best ips panel without burn-in problem, and fingerprint sensor behind the screen (no like too much in-screen fingerprint at all).
- Pros mi 9 vs mate 20: sd 855 (but geekbech it's very very similar, and antutu winner is mi 9 only for gamming but mate 20 still on top), unlocking bootloader for mi 9 (better comunity in xda, but if emui works well I think I don't need custom rooms, the problem here is Trump/google vs China ... but now apeares to be solved and we would have newer updates to Android Q), wireless charging (I don't use it because smartphone is hotter when charging 3-5º vs cable+1,5a charger, It takes more time to charge with elevated temperature), not jack (better for waterproof), maybe very little better cameras in mi 9 and little better results, 4 months younger (very little difference) and It's the top phone on xiaomi (mate 20 is the little brother because we have mate 20 pro, 20x, p30, p30 pro and we will have soon mate 20 and mate 20 pro; and that could be worst because we will get latter uptdates in mate 20).
What do you think? Would you change mi 9 for mate 20? Reading your comments. Greetings.
I'm sorry but you're asking about changing a phone on a forum which is meant for custom roms. And Mate 20 bootloader cannot be unlocked. So, i would never change to Huawei or Honor because of that.
Maybe battery life will be better with Android Q update?

Battery in mi 9 (standby drainage) is really bad -.- and mate 20 does not seems bad at all. Maybe between sd 845 and 855 no?
We will see if the drainage is corrected in android Q or not ...
What about xiaomi.eu? same drainage that official?

Come on, how can you even be here on XDA entertaining the idea of having a Huawei? Seriously, you won't be able to unlock that bootloader ever, and that's a HUGE problem.

I have just read it. I found 2 new tips I didn' know. Thank you. I'll try.
I could add some new tips I have found this days:
- Deactivate in developer options, the last two options (something like MIUI optimizations and alert)
- If you install Quickshorcut and search "installed apps" you can find a new option unaccesible in MIUI and you can disable some extra apps.
- Disable google assistant: in config/aditional options/quick access to buttons
- Disable voice match google in google app/settings/voice/voice match (disable voice match and unlock with voice match)
- If you hold any app in your android desktop you can restrict background app selecting the "i" for info/battery/backgroud restrict (you need to do that in every app)
- Uninstall facemoji keyboard: open it an use it some 2-5 min, and when it apeares in battery usage, you can uninstall it.
- More battery optimizations for apps in: config/aditional settings/privacy/special access to apps/battery optimization.
Have a nice day

2020 Battery Life

I've not seen any discussion on battery life since the launch of the Note 10. Would people please share:
1. How is it now that there's been time for Samsung to fix early issues
2. Did Android 10 upgrade help?
3. Does it last through a day of heavy use?
4. Snapdragon or Exynos?
More info: I'm considering buying the Note 10 but the original reviews are mixed. Some say battery life is good but most say it's disappointing. It would be to replace an iPhone XS that is 12 months old, battery health is a shocking 84% and the SoT time is less than 3 hours, so I won't be buying any more overpriced junk from Apple. I'm in the UK so would be getting the Exynos unless I take a risk and grey import a Snapdragon, and live without the warranty.
More battery life is *always* better, but I really have no complaints about my Note 10 battery. It lasts all day, every day. I average 5.5 hours SOT, but it would get a lot more if I pushed it below 10% charge. However, I rarely let it drop below 30%, or fully charge to 100%. I try to take it off the charger between 60-80% to preserve long-term battery life. So while 5.5 hours SOT may seem low to other Note users, I am averaging 5.5 hours SOT from only a 50-70% charge, which is pretty damn good imo.
I disabled some apps that I'll never use, but otherwise I don't need to gimp it to make it through the day. I noticed a slight improvement in battery life with Android 10. I don't do much gaming, but I do a lot of web browsing, YouTube, and listen to Google Play Music and Sirius XM, and it has no problems lasting a full day.
I have the Snapdragon model. I don't have any experience with the Exynos model, but if you are in the UK, then I would recommend going with Exynos just for the warranty. There may be some YouTube videos comparing the battery and performance differences, you may want to look for those. I remember a couple of years ago the Exynos models were noticeably worse as far as battery, but I think the latest Exynos chips have closed the gap.
If battery life is a top priority, then you should consider the Note 10+ which has 23% larger battery (4300 vs 3500 mAh).
One last thing to consider: The Galaxy S20 models are right around the corner. I am not trying to talk you out of a Note, but if you can live without the Spen, you might want to wait for the Galaxy S20 Plus and Ultra. The Plus model is supposed to have a 4500 mAh battery, and the Ultra is rumored to have a massive 5000 mAh battery.
Edit: Btw, congrats on graduating from iOS. You'll love the customizability of Android, and now that RCS is available, you won't miss iMessage as much :good:

Thanks for taking the time to reply - appreciate it. Sounds like our usage patterns are similar. I don’t really game but I use web and media on public transport for a couple of hours a day, in poor signal areas so every phone I’ve had struggles.
Am trying to keep phone size down, the Note 10 Plus is definitely too big! I like the fact that with the standard Note 10 it’s almost the same size as my current iPhone XS, just 5mm taller.
Re graduating (haha) I’ve had android before. Before this iPhone I had the OnePlus 5T and really liked it until I changed cars and it completely refused to talk to the audio system.
I found a YouTube video comparing the Qualcomm and Exynos Note 10’s and in his test he got 7 hrs from the Exynos and 8hrs from the Snapdragon. Wow, bit of a difference.
Will see what the S20 (standard size) is like, and then decide whether to risk an imported Note 10 [emoji106]
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Correction, the video of the Snapdragon getting another hour of screen time is the S10, not the Note 10, which means the Exynos is the 8nm 9820 rather than the 9825 in the Note.
Video for reference https://youtu.be/shrYnaxVenE

So i got my Exynos note10 (not a new one, a used one but in a good shape) a week ago running android Q, and the battery drain was a little bit higher than average (compared to what people claiming in the battery section). So i decided to do a fresh reset by flashing a firmware using odin, after that i did some optimizations, disabling features that i dont really need, debloating some apps and waiting for the phone to learn my battery usage pattern (it took me around 4-5 days). So now I can get 7 to 8 hours of SOT using Chrome as my web browser, social media apps, and youtube. So yeah i think the 3500 mah battery is doing a pretty good job.
That’s really good, lots of owners don’t get that out of the Plus model

So the first thing i did was to flash a stock firmware and root it using magisk. Then i charged my phone until it get 100%, i use it until it dies and cannot get booted again (when the phone dies keep rebooting it until it cannot get rebooted again). I did the charging and discharging thing twice. I think this step is like calibrating your battery, correct me if I am wrong.
Then thanks to this post : https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-10/how-to/galaxy-note-10-note-10-plus-debloat-t3964225 i debloated Bixby, samsung pass / pay , samsung sticker center... Do this step at your own risk because you can brick your phone if you didnt choose correctly what to debloat.
Then i enabled Adaptive power saving, put unused apps to sleep, Optimise Battery usage and i restricted background activity and i use dark mode all the time.
I disabled Air action and all features related to S pen ( i only use s pen for writing).
You may not notice a big difference in the battery life until your phone learns usage pettern ("Learning pattern" usage becomes "An estimated time" in device care battery's section)
If you are on a rooted phone then you can use greenify to hibernate other apps.
Additional information, my phone battery drains from like 100% to 80% much quicker and then it start to go slower and slower because each battery behaves in a different way.
Took another look at the Note 10 today and think it's an absolutely stunning looking device. Best looking phone around for me. I noted in the Samsung store that they don't offer any sort of satisfaction guarantee, which is disappointing. Would have been tempted to take one if I had some insurance on the battery life not working out.
But the S20 has now launched, and it's impressive from a specs point of view. Time to see how the S20 reviews play out.

Yes, the S20 phones are phenomenal, especially the S20 Ultra. Which means the Note 11/20 will be an absolute beast

You are wrong this is really old battery habits. For several years and actual battery tech it's not recommended to fully discharge , the best way to improve battery life is to stay over 20% and avoid fast charging. That is also not how phone calibrates batteries.

Battery life on the Snapdragon Note 10+ has been great. It stayed consistent with the Android 10 update. I had the Note 8 before this phone, and I'd have to say the 10+ is better.
Indeed the difference is not so abysmal as before

Correction, the video of the Snapdragon getting another hour of screen time is the S10, not the Note 10, which means the Exynos is the 8nm 9820 rather than the 9825 in the Note.

Actually, there is a comparison for Note 10+ Exynos vs Snapdragon and indeed, the difference in battery is now minimal, of course the weak point for the Exynos is still the Mali GPU. So it looks like for power comsuption is now more even between Exynos 9825 and Snapdragon 855 (which is kind of obvious since both are 7nm)

Interesting thanks.
One of the things I’ve been bitten with on iPhones is the effect on battery life of the inferior Intel modems they’ve been using for the last few years. I went from an iPhone SE to an Xs and the difference in signal strength was definitely noticeable, and that will affect power consumption too.
I’m not saying this is the same with the Exynos modem but do tend to think that at this point, Qualcomm modems are the better
