Hello community!
For those who are interested in installing a linux system (debian) on a NON-ROOTED Android device:
I managed to install GnuRoot referring to this tutorial:

At first i had graphical errors when starting LXDE (like missing icons) due to missing libraries during the installation process.
I show you the steps for installing it, referring to above tutorial, but i added some new terminal commands, because there were libraries and dependencies missing when installing LXDE.
1) First install GnuRoot and XSDL server from playstore.
2) Let GnuRoot start and doing its installation. Then type in following terminal commands:
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
dpkg-reconfigure tzdata <----- if you wanna change your locales
apt-get install libffi6 <------ this is one of the missing libraries, otherwise LXDE will have errors during its installation
apt-get install execstack <------ this is one of the missing libraries, otherwise LXDE will have errors during its installation
execstack -c /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libffi.so.6 <------ this is one of the missing libraries, otherwise LXDE will have errors during its installation
apt-get install lxde-core <------- alternatively apt-get install lxde (for full LXDE with its apps)
3) start XSDL and make your configs (resolution etc.), let it run in the background
4) now type in GnuRoot following terminal commands:
export DISPLAY=:0 PULSE_SERVER=tcp:127.0.0.1:4712
startlxde &
5) switch back to XSDL and then wait until the GUI (aka LXDE) starts
It still shows some bugs like "No Session for PID # xxxx" whenever i log in. So i hope that i can get help to install it better (correctly) from the community.
Alternatively:
In the last few days i managed to let GnuRoot Debian run LXDE and connect to it via VNC viewer by running a VNC server locally. So if you dont want to use XDSL, but VNC instead, you can follow these instructions:
Download "GnuRoot Debian" and "VNC Viewer - Remote Desktop" in playstore.
Start GnuRoot, let it do its things and then type in the these shell commands:
For installing LXDE:
apt-get update
apt-get install apt-utils
apt-get install dialog
apt-get install sudo
sudo apt-get install libffi6
sudo apt-get install execstack
sudo execstack -c /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libffi.so.6
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install lxde-core
For installing VNC-Server:
sudo apt-get install tightvncserver
su - root
tightvncserver :1 (<---- just start the VNC-Server in order to create the xstartup-file)
sudo apt-get install nano
nano ~/.vnc/xstartup
an editor will show up and add this line at the bottom of the xstartup-file
/usr/bin/lxsession -s LXDE &
save the file and continue with these commands:
vncserver -kill :1 (<--- kill the server)
tightvncserver :1 -geometry 1280x720 -depth 24 (<--- start it again with this resolution, you can choose any resolution you want)
Now open VNC-Viewer and create a new item in order to connect to the VNC-Server
type in this adress: localhost:1
There you go... you are connected to the VNC-Server running by GnuRoot Debian. Have fun... I installed LibreOffice and Gimp as desktop solution. Working great with the Halo keyboard and with a bluetooth mouse

Yes. Halo Keyboard works, as well as the touchpad. It simulates a "right click" of a mouse by touching the pad with two fingers. But i can't recommend using the touchpad. I use a Bluetooth mouse, and it works well with GnuRoot. You can work just like with a normal Linux environment.
Furthermore I got Libreoffice, GIMP, Firefox ESR and Evince (pdf-Reader) working. Unfortunately i didnt get Chromium (32-bit) working.

ok what about the wacom pad i.e. the create pad itself? does it work in linux?

Okay, so it works similar to a Virtualbox, but is more lightweight as it uses the Linux system that's running behind android in principle, right? Well, it makes the Android YB much more better than the Windows variant if that's the case, as it makes it a lot easier to use a real desktop environment inside of Android without having to reboot..
I'm weighing the pros and cons of going through all these trouble though, as the only reason I would want to have a linux desktop running would be more about using Office apps more than anything, and now with MS Office for Android, that would shorten the gap. I love Linux and have a Mint dual boot on my other machine, but the advantages in using the YB ultraportable Android with MS Office should suffice..

I tried the wacom pad within linux using gimp. but it recognizes the pen only as normal mouse input. sometimes it lags, so drawing (on a professional base) doesn't work that well. and: in linux the pressure used with the pen (i.e. the intensity of the drawn line) isn't recognized as well.

As i have to read a lot of Magazines / Journals and as i have to write a lot of papers and making presentations, the installed linux system sufficed as Office solution.
And i plug in an external monitor (if needed) through the mini-hdmi, so i can have a light-weight mini office computer upon my android system for work. I think this is a good alternative, as I still don't see any possibilities to dual boot this device (aka Android and Win10).

i just wrote a small tutorial in the first post. its similar to this tutorial:

but i added some new commands.
uninstalling is very easy. just uninstall it through the application manager of the yoga book and delete the "GnuRoot" folder in your sdcard.

Yeah, I can see where you are coming from, and as a matter of fact, I use my YB Android pretty much the same as you do: hook it up to a monitor and sometimes use it on a projector for presentations.
The issue I have with LibreOffice is that there are times the formatting gets messed up when opened in MS Office (where majority of my officemates use) unless saved in a PDF Format which you can't edit.
For now, MS Office for Android works though a bit lacking in features as compared to the Win10 version, but gets the job done in a pinch.
Dual-boot is one thing we can look into, but for now though, your solution is worth a try and should be a better option.

yeah, thanks. the thing with ms office is that you have to have an account the the features arent that superb. but you are right, most people use ms office and the format is messed up when continuing working with LibreOffice. thats why i only write documents and make presentations with LibreOffice. when publishing i always convert to pdf.
alternatively i also tried crossover with.... well... not so good results. its lagging and therefore disturbing the workflow. furthermore i just got Libreoffice working with crossover (more or less working...), gimp or other free graphic apps dont work.
having Linux on an Android system is a good way to have an Office computer in one's pocket. i also look forward to a possibility to dual boot the device.

Edit: I see that it's via an Android device. Never mind
Was this done on the Android version or the Windows 10 version of the Yoga Book? Because this may be the breakthrough of getting Android on the Windows 10 version, and then enabling me to do research with a custom ROM.

For me, i can close that error message. But it is still annoying and i cannot get rid of that.

Unfortunately it is for the android device only. Still waiting for a possibility to dual boot the device. I hope for a breakthrough soon....:fingers-crossed:

How install Debian on a LG P500

If you want to install Debian, just follow this step:
1. Download this : megaupload.com/?d=EV1SOKWJ
In the debian folder you should change the installer.sh and bootdeb files by this one
Download them:
installer.sh : mediafire.com/file/6j99zi0g1lu4oxq/ashu11x_installer.rar
Bootdeb : mediafire.com/file/osshm94mo1qhd65/ashu11x_bootdeb.rar
2. After that, copy the debian folder unzipped to the root of your sd-card

Install it
Press "Menu" button and choose "Setup".
The configuration apper, the defaults settings work without touch anithing : Debian Leny into a 500M loop file named "Linux.loop" in th sdcard. for lunch this Linux, the script name is "linuxboot".
Detailled functions :
- Install into LOOP file
Check to box if you want use an loop file, a loop file, is a virtual disk, same as image of hard drive. The loop file can be in any directory. I recomand to put this loop file into sdcard with an extension ".loop".
- Server
Name or IP of download server. If this option is empty, the default server is used. To install ubuntu, leave emtpy.
- Distribution type
Type of distibutions, actualy, Debian or Ubuntu.
- Distribution version
Version in type distribution. Warning ! Please check your version with a real type ! Debian can be Lenny or Squeeze, but no Dapper or Jaunty ! This two end, is Ubuntu version !
- Script to lunch Linux
The command to lunch Linux. you can choose own command to lunch. It permit to install Lenny into file Lenny.loop with script name bootLenny and install. after that install debian squeez or Ubuntu Jaunty into a partition of your SD card, and use an JauntyBoot to lunch jaunty. You have two Linux distributions on the same phone !
- Install into (loop)
Enter full path for the filename used as loop. I recommend to /sdcard/myfile.loop
- File size
The size of file allowed for loop. The size is alocated directly, no possible to change or have an dynamic size !

How to Install Ubuntu on Android!

For those of you who want to install Ubuntu on your Android smartphone or tablet device, here’s our universal guide on how to do it. (This guide is based off my original guide at NexusOneHacks.net)
*Note – This guide should work on most “rooted” Android smartphones/tablets with no further modification.
We will be running Ubuntu “chrooted” under Android OS, which just means that we will be running a “virtual” Ubuntu OS that runs on top of the Android OS. Your Android OS will work fully (e.g. your phone will keep working normally) while the Ubuntu runs on top of it.
First of all, you should have your Android device “rooted” because you need root access to run Ubuntu off your Android.
Second, your Android OS must support loop devices. Most newer Android smartphones/tablets come with this support so we can mount our Ubuntu image as a loop device. If not, you will either have to build your own kernel with support for loop devices or you can try an aftermarket ROM for your phone as most aftermarket ROMs come with support for it.
For example, G2 Phone and Nexus One both come with loop device support so there’s no need for us to compile a new kernel for it but for others, you may have to.
How do you know this? Just try installing Ubuntu and if it doesn’t boot, your Android device needs a kernel with loop device support. Otherwise you are fine.
How to Install Ubuntu on Android! (Windows)
First, download the following Ubuntu.zip file (from a preferred mirror), unzip and copy over the whole ubuntu directory to the SD card of your Android smartphone/tablet device:

(Turn USB storage ON then copy over the Ubuntu folder to the root directory of your SD card.)
(What it looks like after copied over to the SD Card)
1) Again, make sure you have your Android smartphone/tablet “rooted”!
2) You must have Android SDK installed or have access to adb.exe.
3) Make sure your Android phone/tablet is in debugging mode. Go to Settings->Applications->Development and make sure USB Debugging is checked ON.
4) Connect your Android device to your computer via USB cable and set the USB mode to “Just Charge”.
5) Your Android device should be recognized as “ADB Device” under Device Manager. If not, install appropriate drivers.
For all HTC Android smartphones/tablets (such as G2 Phone, Nexus One), you can download Windows drivers here:

6) Open up a command prompt by typing “cmd” under Start->Search programs and files.
7) Browse to your SDK directory where you installed the Android SDK:
8) Then go into platform-tools directory:
9) Type “adb devices” to double-check your Android device is recognized.
In this example, I used an HTC G2 Phone, which shows up at “HT09SR204261″. This is fine. However, if you get an empty device, that means you didn’t install the drivers for your phone/tablet correctly. (Go back to #5)
10) Type “adb shell” to enter the Android shell.
Then type “su” to enter super user mode, then type “cd /sdcard” and “cd ubuntu” to enter the ubuntu directory in your SD card of your Android device.
11) Next, type “sh ubuntu.sh” to run the script which will basically get your Ubuntu image ready to run on your Android smartphone/tablet.
If you get error messages, don’t worry and keep going.
12) Type “bootubuntu” to enter Ubuntu. (Next time you enter Ubuntu, you just need to type “bootubuntu” from your /sdcard/ubuntu directory, no need to run ubuntu.sh again.
If you got “[email protected]” at this point, congratulations! This means your Android OS comes with loop device support and Ubuntu is now running “chrooted” on top of your Android OS!!!
However, if you failed at this point, your Android OS probably doesn’t support loop devices, try installing another ROM or compiling your own kernel with loop device support.
How to Install Programs on your Ubuntu!
Once you’ve got Ubuntu running on your Android device, it’s time to install some Ubuntu packages(or programs).
Type “apt-get update” to update, this is the first thing you will need to do before installing any new programs.
How to Install OpenSSH-server on your Android Ubuntu!
Type “apt-get install openssh-server” to install OpenSSH-server. What is OpenSSH-server? If you want to connect to your Android Ubuntu via an IP address (and SSH into it), you will want to do this.
How to Install TightVNCServer on your Android Ubuntu!
If you want to access the GUI of your Android Ubuntu, you can install TightVNCServer, which allows you to access the Android Ubuntu via Android VNC app on your Android smartphone/tablet or even access it remotely from your desktop computer.
Type “apt-get install tightvncserver” to install.
How to Fix Language Issues
Above is after I connected to my Android Ubuntu via SSH2. Well, for some reason my default language switched to German. To fix that, just type “export LANG=en_US.UTF-8″:
How to Install LXDE!(optional)
Next, we will install LXDE (Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment). Although we can use Ubuntu’s default GNOME (and trust me I love that), LXDE takes up less memory so our GUI access will be faster.
If you like GNOME, you can skip this step though.
Type “apt-get install lxde”
Next, let’s setup xstartup file so that when TightVNCServer is started, the LXDE runs instead of GNOME:
Type “cat > /root/.vnc/xstartup”
Then type:
cat > /root/.vnc/xstartup
#!/bin/sh
xrdb $HOME/.Xresources
xsetroot -solid grey
icewm &
lxsession
Then hit Ctrl+D twice and enter to save the file.
How to Start TightVNCServer!
Next, let’s start the TightVNCServer and connect to it from our Android phone and my Windows 7 desktop:
Type “export USER=root” and “vncserver -geometry 1024×800″.
Here, you can change the resolution settings 1024×800 to the resolution of your liking.
Now your TightVNCServer is ready to accept any incoming connections from your phone or computer. Just point to the correct IP address and use port number 5901 to connect.
On your Android smartphone, just download the free app “Android-VNC-Viewer” and set the IP address to “127.0.0.1″ and port number 5901 to connect.
And you should be able to get into your Ubuntu like this:
You can also use desktop software like TightVNC Viewer and connect to your phone.
Do “ifconfig” to find out what your IP address is in your Android Ubuntu.
In this example, mine was connected to “192.168.1.131″.
Then connect to “192.168.1.131:5901″ on your TightVNC Viewer:

Troubleshooting
Ubuntu not running?
Try typing “cp” under Android shell and if you get an error message, it means you need to install Busybox. Install Busybox and try again.
Final Thoughts
As said in the video, there will be a lot of improvements in the speed of Android devices in the near future. This year, there will be a slew of dual-core 1Ghz processor-equipped Android devices being introduced. Which just means our Android Ubuntu will run faster and faster.

Folio Linux "Drivers Thread"

There are some people in this forum that have got success instaling ubuntu on Folio. I've got too.
Now i have a great question !!
Are our folios fully driver installed ??
For example, in my folio with ubuntu, i can't use bluetooth or i can't heard any sound because it doesn't run, or also i can't adjust brightness...
I have searched lot of pages and i haven't got success....
This thread is created for people who knows how install this kind of drivers can help us to make us happy !!
If you discovered how to install any kind of driver... or things for optimize ubuntu and make it more quickly please, post it !!
Also would be insteresting if people got success installing programs on our ARM architecture device like Dropbox, Foxit reader, Wine compatibility layer... that are based on i386 and AMD architectures post a how to do it.

I am working on sound driver. Just trying to find specs as running android do not give enough informations.
I will also try to integrate accelerated drivers as in AC100 build (but system may be unstable...)

When I installed Linux on my netbook, I haven't got bluetooth, go to software manager(ubuntu market) and search for bluetooth(drivers). May this help you
I'm working on sound too...
I guess there is an GPIO Chip inside the Folio, which manages sound in-/outputs..
I dont know whether the bluetooth and screen brightness are also part of it...
The GPIO has many inputs and outputs, but these are not fix...
So you have to build/run a program which tells them to be an output or input and what they have to do...
I ported the mach-tegra tree and the sound/soc/tegra tree from android-kernel-source to the folio source..
After that I ran nvrm_daemon in a chroot..
For that you'll have to do the following steps:
1. Create a new folder whereever you want (for me /home/ubuntu/Desktop/chroot)
2. mount /dev/mmcbkl0p1 and copy the bin & lib folders into your directory
3. create a folder called system inside your folder and move the lib folder into it
4. create the folders dev and proc
5. open a shell and cd to your directory
6. $ mount -o bind /dev dev/
7. $ mount -t proc /proc proc/
8. chroot ./ /bin/sh
9. nvrm_daemon
You should better run chroot/nvrm_daemon from a ssh shell on your laptop because sometimes the screen gets black, because of segmentation fault..
Then you can take a look @ dmesg..
There are some outputs given by nvrm_daemon.. Also for GPIO but they failed to change some pins because they are already in use..
And I guess thats the problem!
I also tested whats happening when the nvrm_daemon is not starting when android boots.
I removed it from the ramdisk.
After that the folio wasn't starting anymore...
Only after I started nvrm_daemon manually via adb shell the boot screen appers and the window manager starts..
So everything depends on the nvrm_daemon!
I hope you'll more lucky than me and findout why the nvrm_daemon is not starting correctly!

I there, I have contacted Atheros to know which bluetooth chip is in our folio and they replied me that is 3011 or 3012 depending on the version.
I hope this helps to get bluetooth working early. I will try using ndiswrapper to install windows driver after the biggest brick ever!!!

These drivers are valid for Debian and Ubuntu Maverick.
However, you must edit xorg.conf to make them work properly with the folio 100.

I had said before, it is necessary to create an xorg.conf file that is compatible with
toshiba screen folio 100.
It is the only way to have graphics acceleration.

Best remote shell alternative to adb shell?

What's a good approach for getting a remote shell from Windows? adb shell just doesn't cut it, I tried it from the Win command prompt and from cygwin's mintty and there are all sorts of terminal problems, cursor keys not working, escape sequences not working, vi is a mess, etc.
So what's the proper way to set up a remote shell so that you get close to the Linux experience while connecting from Windows? E.g. sshd and connect via putty, busybox installed, etc. Any recommendations please before I go and try a bunch of things and make a mess? Thanks!

SSH is a good alternative. You can then connect via PUTTY from your Windos machine. There's a small ssh server for embedded system called "dropbear", alto not fully functional (no scp/sftp support), it's easier to install than openssh. If you don't want to install it in the Android OS native, you can always download an app including it, there's a few of them.
Myself I'm using openssh, using my fully GNU Debian environment (see my signature). This solution also enables me to use X-windows for remote access to my Android. But I guess this is overkill for you. But still, very cool.

I tried DropBear SSH Server II and SSHDroid and they seem to work well enough for what I need. Next step is to get sftp working which apparently it is possible with DropBear SSH Server II with a bit of manual work.

Unleash the full potential of your Chromebook​
HEAR WE GO​
"NOTE"​Some older Chromebooks have a physical switch that you'll have to flip in order to turn on Developer Mode. If you aren't sure, look up instructions for your specific device on enabling Developer Mode.
"Developer Mode"
Press and hold the Esc and Refresh keys together, then press the Power button (while still holding the other two keys). This will reboot your Chromebook into Recovery Mode.
As soon as you see Recovery Mode pop up—the screen with the yellow exclamation point—press Ctrl+D. This will bring up a prompt asking if you want to turn on Developer Mode.
Press Enter to continue, then give it some time. It'll pop up with a new screen for a few moments, then reboot and go through the process of enabling Developer Mode. This may take a little while (about 15 minutes or so), and will wipe your local information.
When it's done, it will return to the screen with the red exclamation point. Leave it alone until it reboots into Chrome OS.

Installation
Download "Crouton" and save it in your Downloads folder. http://www.mediafire.com/download/4410vlwkbrol0me/crouton "NOTE" If you have any problems Downloading from the link I always keep backups.
Press Ctrl+Alt+T to bring up a terminal on your Chromebook.​At the Terminal, run the following command to enter a Ubuntu shell:

Next, run the following command to install Crouton:
sudo sh -e ~/Downloads/crouton -t xfce
If you're doing this on a Chromebook Pixel, change it to:
sudo sh -e ~/Downloads/crouton -t touch,xfce
to get touch screen support. Recommended: You can also encrypt your new desktop with a password for extra security using the -e flag (since Developer Mode inherently decreases the security of your machine).
Let your computer install Crouton. This might be a good time to grab a cold beer or a juice box. When it's done it'll ask you for a username and password for your new Ubuntu installation, so enter them when prompted.
After it's finished installing, run the following command to start your new desktop environment:
sudo startxfce4 :highfive:
If you want Ubuntu's Unity interface instead of the XFCE desktop environment, you'd change instances of "xfce" to "unity" (no quotes) in the above commands, including the last command (which would become "startunity"). You can also install LXDE or KDE if you prefer. See the Crouton GitHub page for more info on what you can do, and our guide to desktop environments for the difference between each one.
Now, you can switch back and forth between Chrome OS and Ubuntu using Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Back and Ctrl+Alt+Shift+Forward (if you're on an ARM-based Chromebook) or Ctrl+Alt+Back and Ctrl+Alt+Forward (If you're on an Intel-based Chromebook).You will also need to press Ctrl+Alt+Refresh after pressing Ctrl+Alt+Forward to bring up the desktop. To exit the Linux desktop, just log out of it like you would on a normal PC—you'll close it completely and go back to Chrome OS (after which you can run sudo startxfce4 again to go back)
Your desktop won't come with very many programs installed. You'll find that even a lot of default Ubuntu tools are left out, so you'll have to install them yourself using apt-get. If you're on an ARM-based Chromebook, not all apps will be compatible. Intel users will be much better off
If you're using XFCE, you should disable the screensaver, which can cause graphics issues in Chrome OS.
The Downloads folder in Chrome OS is the same as the Downloads folder on the Linux desktop, so if you download or create a file in one environment, you can put it in the Downloads folder to make it available in the other as well.
If you're on a high resolution display like the Chromebook Pixel, your icons will be very, very tiny. The Crouton wiki has a few options for fixing this, though none are quite perfect. You either deal with a few tinier buttons or you go to a more standard resolution. Since your Chromebook is in Developer Mode, it will take an extra 30 seconds to boot up, since it shows you the Developer Mode message. You can skip this by pressing Ctrl+D.P
Lastly, if you want to remove your Linux desktop and go back to regular ol' Chrome OS, you can just reboot your Chromebook and press spacebar when it prompts you to re-enable OS verification. This will remove Crouton and restore Chrome OS in its original state.P
That's it! Now you have a fully working Linux desktop on top of Chrome OS, and you can switch between them whenever you want with a quick keystroke. This makes those great but seemingly dumbed-down Chromebooks a lot more useful (not to mention tempting)

Factory Reset Chrombook?
If I install Ubuntu, can I keep ChromeOS as it is untouched, or do I have to factory reset my Chromebook to factory new settings? I don't want to factory reset my Chromebook but still be able to switch between ChromeOS and Ubuntu.
All looks like I have got developers mode and the terminal opens fine BUT when I try the first step I get "ERROR: unknown command: shell"
the help command etc work fine just not "shell" I am trying to do this on a Toshiba Chromebook 2 any help would be great thanks.

Has anyone so far got any form of linux (vnc or framebuffer or any way it might work) on our tablet? A while ago i saw @Stevethegreat write about it in the androplus kernel thread and i'm wondering if anything came out of that. It would be really nice to get debian or ubuntu on here because my note 10.1 is getting quite slow for more demanding programs with its weedy 1.4 ghz exynos while the 810 would probably do amazingly well. By the way in case anyone was about to suggest it-- the linux deploy or complete linux installer apps don't seem to work on this tablet (stock rooted and androplus kernel), linux deploy fails at the beginning of the install and complete linux installer just plain force closes when trying to start the linux.... Any ideas?

I could even cross compile some arm-binaries if I had the itch.
For my server needs I have a Raspberry Pi2 (seafile, carddav, caldav) for < 50 EUR with nice case and power supply. Eats < 10 EUR electricity/year.

I mostly need propper linux to run exagear desktop which enables x86 programs to run on arm so that these tablets can be used as a intel laptop replacement . While it runs fine on my pi2 that is really a bit too weak even at 1 or 1.2 ghz and while it is faster on the old note i bet the 810 would make it approach the speeds of a entry level or mid range intel laptop and increase usability by alot. It also seems to me a bit weird how the apps i wrote about in the first post simply do not work on the z4tab even with selinux on premissive and such.
I don't own the tablet so I can't be 100% sure. However if you compile a kernel with Virtual Terminal support and follow the linux guide I wrote for Note 10.1 2014 tablet , I'm mostly positive that you'd get a rather responsive linux implementation. You have to forget hardware acceleration though (as it is dependant to the particular architecture of each and every device), unless you found a way to implement it...

Yeah, but you have to edit some of the files there. For example the kernel used there is obviously for Note tablet, *don't attempt to flash it to Xperia tablet* it will brick it. Also you'd have to edit the xorg.conf fille that you have to copy to the first step (follow the explanation part).
If you do the above two probably both the quick guide and the full guide would work. If not it would mean that I'd have to update my LinuxCanvas app, in which case someone should donate to me an Xperia tablet Z4

One would have to be pretty mad to go trying to install Linux on a tablet and then flash a kernel from a samsung to a sony xD But yeah... i will try it IF this Linux Deploy will get about maybe working for a change...

Yeah I know, I just want to be clear so that nobody (of those reading here) would attmpt that and suddenly think that I was the one that bricked his device. I can do without such charges
As for linuxdeploy, I use version 1.5.3 in my guide as it is the one with less issues. I gave a link there to the apk. Try it and see how it goes.

Linux deploy 1.5.6, current from play store, works well for me on a rooted SGP771, of course with an Andro+ kernel. Using armhf gave the least problems to get a Ubuntu or Debian installed with graphics via a local or remote VNC viewer.
Since the Z4T is 64 bits, I however aimed to install an arm64 architecture. Here, the success rate is lower, which is mostly due to packages that cannot be installed and a bug in tightvncserver with arm64 and higher color depth'.
I however finally succeeded with arm64 too, by using Ubuntu wily, LXDE and an x11rdp installed via ssh instead of tightvncserver. Now I'm trying a framebuffer display for speed, power consumption and a higher DPI, but yet without success. Changing DPI for VNC is simple, as Linux Deploy has a setting for it, but using RDP this seems to be tricky.
Did you say which error you get with Linux Deploy? I found it useful to turn on debug and trace output in the settings. The very first issue I had with Linux Deploy, first on the SGP621, later again on the SGP771, was that I tried to use the file method on the external SD card without the necessary permissions. On the Z4T I now use the internal storage instead, it's much faster too.
Unfortunately I'm not a Linux or Android guy, so I need to google solutions for each and every problem I encounter and I don't even think of trying to resolve package installation problems.
My objective is mostly to see how far I can get using Linux on such a lightweight device as the Z4T.
I already had the Eclipse IDE with JDT and CDT running fast enough for productive work. GHC (Haskell) runs too, but not GHCI. Using Linux with a touchscreen only and at such a high DPI is still disappointing. To my surprise, mc works rather well with a tochscreen in a fullscreen terminal via ssh. My holy grail shall however be to see Windows 8.1 running in qemu. I wonder how that will perform. Not so well I suppose. Maybe a combination of Wine and qemu would work ok, where qemu only executes the x86 application code and leaves the OS code behind the Windows APIs up to be executed natively by Wine...

Interesting how far you've come.
On my Raspberry I have no problems (even used LibreOffice on LXDE) with armhf.
armhf (32 bit) gives no problems in package selections so far and should work on the Tablet Z4.

Problems with the tablet could setting up drivers for the qualcomm hardware in your version of Linux.
At least SONY provide the sources for the kernel and heading over to qualcomm there is tons of documentation. Here you look at specific (OEM-) boards. Our tablet is not that exotic.
I doubt you could run a huge operating system of INTEL-architecture due to memory constraints. Windows NT4 or XP might be possible in 3Gbytes host memory.
