[GUIDE] Temporary fix for the google play store hanging in waiting for network. - ZTE Axon 7 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hello guys.
Many users, including me, stumbled across this problem the past couple of days.
There seems to be an issue with the latest Google Play Store version, which becomes stuck on waiting for network if you try to download something at random times.
This is very frustrating but I found a fix, although temporary until Google updates the play store.
WARNING: This requires root. Also I am not responsible for any damage that happens to your phone, proceed at your own risk as always.
Without further ado, this is what this fix is about:
Go to apps, press the three dot menu on the top right, show system apps, and find Google Play Store.
Once in Google Play Store, press remove updates, or disable and enable the app again, both ways work.
If you see in the notification bar that Google Play Store is updating, CANCEL IT.
Now, this is where is gets interesting.
Normally the Google Play Store will update itself, but we want to stop that until a later date where a fix is pushed out.
Download the app called MyAndroidTools.
Open the app and select the service menu, press system.
Scroll down to Google Play Store.
Find a switch named SelfUpadteChecker and turn it off.
Voila, your play store will now be working properly.
REMINDER: This is not a permanent solution, remember to check again if the play store is fixed at a later date to enable the switch again and update to the latest version.
Have a nice day all.
EDIT 3/4/17 : I found out that these switches may further help stop Google Play store from updating.
Again use at your own risk.

MaintainanceWindowJobService
RescheduleUsingAlarmManager$CheckWifiAndAutoUpdate
RescheduleIUsingBroadcast$AutoUpdateRecheckFrorBroadcast
RescheduleUsingJobScheduler$CheckPreconditionsAndAutoUpdateJobService
SeflUpdateCheckerScheduler$SelfUpdateCheckerTaskService
EDIT 5/4/17, second way.:
I still recommend the first way because it seems the issue is still not resolved, but this may appeal to users who want something less intrusive or don't have root.
I found out that the issue is not yet resolved with the latest google play version, but I was able to make play store work again with the following :
Cleared data of Download Manager with Titanium Backup.
Clered data of Google play services with Titanium Backup.
Rebooted.
I have no idea if this will last, but I was able to download apps after this, without touching the latest verion of Google Play Store.
If you wanna be extra safe uninstall updates from play store as well, but this worked for me without doing so.
Update: 7/4/17:
Zte announced a new software update, namely B02, which should fix this issue without any user actions required.
Thanks @Choose an username... for reminding me.
Hope it works.

Thanks!
What I did was to download an earlier version of the Play Store, install and before running it for the first time, I disabled the SelfUpadteChecker.
But for some reason, the Play store still tried to download the update, it just crashed after the download. The funny thing is, during the 5 seconds between starting Play Store and the crash, I was able to download an app update.
Which version of Play Store should I use?
Just to clarify, I use the Chinese firmware, so I cannot remove updates, it is not a system app. I can only uninstall it completely.
.

Thanks man. It is working on me right now.

Glad it does.
If it helped hit that thanks button.
I'll update it soon with some further findings as well.

Were you able to unbrick your Axon 7? I read it was in DFU mode wasn't it ?

unbrick one is my friend's. it is cn version, mine is good.

It doesn't require a root. Just cancel updating after you uninstall updates and you are good for some time at least.

On mine, it seems to use the Download Manager app for ALL downloads, including the Play store. If you go to the settings in Download Manager, you'll see a "Download files only via Wi-Fi. Untick that box and Play Store starts working properly again.
I can only assume that the crappy Download Manager is intercepting and controlling all download requests.

I doubt it, it can't work on a supposedly uncertified device and all of a sudden stop working.
Or the device showing up as certified and all of a sudden becomes uncertified.
I personally think a play store update is broken most likely, because it has been reported from rooted and stock users, plus on other devices rather than the Axon 7 as well.

Guide updated.

@nfsmw_gr You should prolly write down somewhere in the OP (preferrably big, and where it says that it is not a permanent solution) that ZTE announced an upcoming B02 with fixes including this one.
It shouldn't be too far away since it has already rolled out to Chinese versions.
thanks for the fix though

[Q] [Solved] play store not working

Ok so I was using lucky patcher yesterday and I did a patch. my google play didn't connect to the internet after that, so I Deleted the play store completely (yes I have a rooted android) then I downloaded a play store apk here at xda I installed it and still it wouldn't connect, after that I did a factory reset thinking it would give me the android default play store but it didn't. My android had no trace of a play store. So I was getting aggravated and ticked off. I then downloaded a new play store here at xda, and then when I open play store it just crashes. I've done a lot to fix it but no luck. I've added a # in the hosts file and it worked for like a couple second and crashed again. I added 2 # and it worked (Example below) until I tried to download an app.
#127.0.0.1 localhost
#127.229.35.136 android.clients.google.com mtalk.google.com
Any solutions

Not all Play Store versions are the same, nor do they work with every version of android. You need the correct one for your phone and software version. Without knowing these, it's kind of hard to suggest anything further. But did you use Lucky Patcher to mod the Play Store or to block ads? That usually causes these issues.

Your best bet would be to find someone else with your phone that is rooted and then they can share their version with you. Doesn't seem to be any custom roms or much for your phone so can't just download the rom and grab the apk from it like most phones. How were you trying to install the other versions you found?
All I did was install it.
Play store works sometimes if I put 2 # in front of the ip's but once I download something it crashes and I'm back to square 1

I think you can use LP to undo that patch as well. But you should still install the Play Store in the system. That's where it belongs and needs special permissions for everything to function properly.
I don't see anything about unpatching the patch

Need to use the "Remove ODEX with changes" option. Should do the trick.

Sorry I didn't respond sooner. Anything that involved Google didn't work so I had to find a workaround. I couldn't Use apps or crome to reply.

@Paget96
I have tried those options and they didn't work.
However I did notice another thing missing... Google services framework.....
I need it for my device, I may make another thread about that.

Truesmart + Playstore available?

Hi, I just received my Truesmart + today, and I tried to install the google playstore and while I was able to get the APK into the watch, after it installs the playstore it fails to open.
So basically whenever I press the playstore button it'd open for half a second and the whole program just vanishes like if it got reverted back to the homescreen..... Ive also downloaded several different version of playstore and havent had any luck either...
I was wondering if you guys know if its possible to even install the google play store and get it to run on this model??
The specs of my watch are:
Android Version: 5.1
Baseband version: MOLY.WR8.W1449.MD.WG.MPV5, 2015/08/24 16:00
Kernel Version: 3.10.72
Build Number: Omate_Truesmart+_V1.1
Custom Build Version: OUI 3.0
Please help me out, I dont want to end up with a brick =(
I am curious about this too (was supposed to get mine today but the mailman messed up) Did they not include the OStore or some sort of other app program? Are any apps preloaded?
You'll also notice that you can't add a Google account within Settings-> Accounts.
The only way around that so I'm actually able to add a Google account is by sideloading "Google Services Framework" & "Google Account Manager" (in addition to "Play Services").
However, even with these installed, Play Store still doesn't work - it launches but won't connect.
Hopefully a solution is found.
Until then, I'm fine with using my LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE.
Pre-installed Apps are pretty sparse:
> Phone
> SMS
> Exchange
> File Manager
> Browser
> Calendar
> Clock
> Gallery
> Downloads
> Contacts
> Search

*UPDATE*
I've reached out to Laurent LePen (CEO of Omate) & told him the usual method of making the Play Store work (by sideloading the 3 Apps I mentioned) doesn't work on the Omate TrueSmart+. He said they're rolling out an update next week to fix that.
So hopefully, next week it'll work.
*fingers crossed*
Wow, releasing a watch without its own OStore supported seems like a big mistake. Their Facebook discussion also seems to suggest that they'll be pushing an update by the end of the year, so hopefully that holds true.
I was able to install Google search and google now launcher, but google play store won't work without "google play services" and I haven't found a version of that .apk that will not keep crashing on the Truesmart+
Since google play services keeps crashing, the play store stays on a "Checking Info" screen that keeps spinning and spinning...
Same issue here, obviously...
com.google.android.gms_8.4.89_(2428711-234)-8489234_minAPI21(armeabi-v7a)(240dpi).apk should be the correct version of Play Services, but it still crashes on me...
Does anyone have any newer versions of the Services Framework and Account Manager APK's?
Anyone, any updates?
Edit: There will be a firmware update this weekend which will pus the OStore... No Play STore, but at least it's something for now...
I just unboxed my truesmart+ today.
I think it is not useful without google service inside.
I can't sync my contact nor get my paid apps on it, it is really a bit disappointing.

Everything appears to be working great
Just curious, if Aptoide does the same thing as the Play Store, did we really need the Play Store? I'm away from my device so I can't test it, but it seems Aptoide has many of the same mainstream apps as the Play Store (Maps, YouTube, etc)
Could someone please answer my question re: Aptoide? Is this a viable alternative? (from a technical perspective, please no need to go into politics) Thanks.

Aptoide will work for free apps, if you install "My Paid Apps" from Aptoide you may also be able to install some of your paid apps as well. Aptoide's biggest drawbacks are much smaller number of apps, less security, sometimes apps do not get updated as often, not all paid apps will be accessible.
Another option is Amazon App Store.

Aptoide is a viable alternative to Google Play, but only if you are very careful and very skilled at being able to recognize and avoid trojanized versions of apps. The majority of people hosting apps there are well intentioned, I guess, but there are also a large number of maliciously modified apps to be found there, and cracked premium pay apps are included.
Using Aptoide over the Play Store, then, is not a good idea unless you are very skilled or have other means of avoiding Android malware mixed in with the many legitimate apps available there. If you get apps there that are really hosted there by their real original developers, for example, you can feel pretty secure.

Thank you both for your replies! Referencing your statement above, if I download only the apps marked with a green shield marked "trusted" should I be ok? (Do I trust the trust mark?) I'm only looking for Maps, YouTube, SWApp, Gmail, Amazon Music, Pandora.

Sharp Aquos S2 Widget not work

I bought Sharp Aquos S2 from TWN, evething works fine with original play store except Sharp widget does not work (System UI no permission). Don't know how to set permission system UI?
PS: reset several times but does not work.
Please help.
Thank you
Kinda off-topic but how did You get google play store to work on Aquos S2?
I can't install it at all. Did You have it preinstalled on your phone?
I bought from Taiwan, it has google play store original but the problem is the phone widget is N/A.

Lucky You with play store preinstalled. I'd suggest you to simple get rid off original widget and install any other widget from google play store. The original one is not working for me either (N/A). I'm gonna keep fighting with mine. Does anyone know how to enter recovery mode on S2? I was able to boot in safe mode (power + volume down) but idk what's the combination for recovery. Maybe under recovery mode I'll be able to install all those google services. I was also unable to root this device.
If anyone got some info how to install google services on this I'd appreciate it!
Cheers,

You must install Google Play Services in order to have Google Play Store and other Google apps. Both apps can be found here: https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-play-services/. This is exacly what I did. I've checked dpi, android version, cpu architecture. I've installed services, framework, account, play store in order. Still no luck. I've also installed google installer which is downloading all neccesary services automaticaly and... same story. Everything installs without any problem but it freezes when I want to open any google app.
Have You installed gaaps on Sharp S2 without those apps being preinstalled?
Actually, I haven't. I had Gapps preinstalled this time. But I had some Chinese phones before and not all of them came with Gapps. I never had problem with installing them.
S2 has plenty options to set rights and restrictions per app. They are in 3 sectors - under SIM settings (about use of networks), apps settings and S boost. I couldn't get internet radio working before I assign necessary rights to it. Have you checked that you gave all gapps needed rights?
Hm.. Maybe I've found the problem. Under SIM and S-boost everything looks good. In apps settings I'm unable to give "get location" for Google Services. I can see it needs "access precise location" to work. Can You tell me whether You have "get location" set for google services on your phone?
I gave GPS all possible permissions. Always.
Well, I can't. The phone is crashing when I want to swipe "location: ON" in google services. It freezes, going black-screen and then going back to settings. It's exacly the same when I want to allow Google Services Framework to read/write instant messages (as far as I can see online those two are by default OFF anyway). All the other permissions for all google apps are ON. Also, most of the other apps with location needed are crashing when I have gaaps installed. Idk why I cant give it all permissions, didn't find any similar problem online.

Then, it seems that the problem is serious. When I bought the phone I noticed that the system has flaws, so first thing I did was factory reset. Even after that I still have two errors, fingerprint scanner is slow and sometimes after unlocking the screen just turns blank and after using power button it turns out that phone is unlocked already. And after every resetting the phone Android Pay simply disappeared and has to be enabled in Google Play again. I've gotten one OTA already and nothing regarding both issues has been changed.
I guess you have 3 options: factory reset and set all bunch of Gapps again, returning the phone or waiting for next OTA. It is obvious that the problem is on the sw side and it is in proprietary Smile UI system precisely.
Hopefully they gonna sort it out soon.
Yeah, exacly. I've already done factory reset multiple times. I'm installing proper version of google service and I can't give it location permisions. I'm almost sure I'm doing everything right.
Gonna wait for OTA, I'll use it without play store atm.
I have no problems at all with fingerprint sensor and unlocking. I think we might have slightly different softwares. Can You tell me whats your ROM version? Mine is 00CN_1_27L with android patched September 1, 2017. Kernel Version 4.4.21

Mine is 00WW_1_27L and that is the difference. WW stays for worldwide and CN for china (kernels are the same). And WW has Gapps installed. But it has other issues caused by incorrect android system modification (smile UI).
Result of that erroneous system is obviously in Gapps failure. My previous phone was Chinese (there was ww version as well), without Gapps, but system was good and I had no troubles installing Gapps.
I understand - thanks for information. I guess I'll have to wait for root manual and flash rom to WW in future.
You don't need root, just OTA or factory image. If I were you, I'd ask both the seller and Sharp for it Describing troubles and they might hear you.
Sharp didn't even reply. Seller said that I bough device with CN rom and it is as it is. They are both kinda right. How can I OTA with region change? I dont think I can use factory image as my image is CN atm. WW images are not available online.
It's the same kernel, exactly the same hw, there is no difference, only the system. You can flash either ww ota or factory image. Another problem is to get any if supplier doesn't cooperate.

HELP! Oreo Update. Play Store shows all PAID apps are unpaid (have to purchase again)

Note that I only have one Google account on the device
I bought a brand new sealed Samsung Galaxy Tab S3. I setup the device for the first time and went straight to updating to Marshmallow which then allowed me to finally update to Oreo. So then I tried to install an app that I already paid for. But it said I didn't pay for it (says $3.99 instead of INSTALL). So I thought that maybe it's from a fishy developer who makes their apps temporary free (P.AG.F.) and pulled the rug from under me. But then I noticed all of my paid apps are UNPAID. So then I decided to go for a legit developer who I was confident is a good developer (Nova Launcher Prime), and even on the Play Store page it said I have to pay money for it even though I already purchased it on my Google account. Even when I click on "Purchased Apps" the apps show as purchased, but as soon as I go to the app's page, it show as unpaid.
So I decided to maybe factory reset the device. Nope. The problem persisted. I checked for an OS update past Android 8.0.0. There was no update. So then I decided to lookup an APK mirror for Google Play Services (using Play Services Info), and I downloaded the correct app for my device (architecture and dpi). I installed the latest Play Services. But in Play Services info it shows that my newly installed App is still the old version from 2016. On Play Services Info it says I need to install the 2018 version (obviously I tried to). It didn't do anything. Still did not work
I am wondering if I got a botched update of Oreo. What do I do? I am out ideas at this point. Man what the heck???
EDIT: Play Services version 12.6.88 (also the updated OS install this version)

I'm sure it's not the device. Check to make sure you have the latest version of play store. You can do that using the three bar menu in play store and going to settings.

Play store is up to date. Play services is also up to date. I can't even downgrade play services to a version below 12.6.88.

That's interesting. Mine is 10.2.06 and says it's up to date. It's also working fine. Did your device update to Oreo on it's own or did you flash it with Odin? You're in the US, right?
Edit, my play services is 12.2.85. Play store is 10.2.06

Also, make sure you are not in your "Secure Folder" when running play store. It will not access your account properly and will force you to pay for everything again.
Can you access Play store from a computer? Do you still see the apps you paid for?
Otherwise, I'd contact Google Support and see what is wrong with your account.

Oh man what the heck. What do I do? My device won't let me downgrade. Oh man. I am screwed. Edit: Yes everything is fine on all of my devices. Including Android emulators. I turned on the "use secure folder" during factory setup. But when I click on Secure Folder it tells me I need to sign in to my Samsung account in order to use it. So I am not even sure if Secure Folder is the issue. Cause it wont even let me into the app unless I sign up. Play Services is 12.6.8 no downgrade allowed. Play Store is 10.2.06 ???

You're not screwed. How did you get Oreo on your device? There isn't a US version so I'm assuming you used Odin. If so did you use the UK version. You're right, you won't be able to down grade to nugat but I'm on Oreo, in the US, and it's working fine.

Nope. I read news today that Samsung Tab S3 in the US are rolling out Oreo updates. I got excited and I was like oh what a coincidence because that day was the same day I decided to open up my brand new Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 from the sealed retail packaging. So like I really didn't do much. No tweaks. No strange configuration or app installations. I literally went through Android settings and installed the updates through the official "search for update" method. Note that the update service found the Marshmallow update and forced me to install it before I would be able to find the Oreo update.
No Odin. No flashing. No rooting. No Adb. Nothing nada. EDIT: It's possible I bought a NON-US version of Tab S3, but I don't see how that is relevant because that version of Tab S3 should have Play Store bugs ironed out by now.

The US version of Oreo isn't available for Odin flash yet, otherwise I'd give it a try and see if it's an issue with the firmware. But I don't think even Samsung would have messed up play store. If it was just released it may be available later today.

I feel like if I flashed an Oreo ROM then the problem would disappear. Is there no one else from the US beside me who has updated through the official outlet?
On my Oreo Play Services is v12.6.85 and Play store is v10.2.06-all and I see my paid for apps without issues.

Man. Wtf why does this always happen to me with Google? Like in YouTube, my old playlists show up on my PC Chrome Browser. But they don't even exist in the YouTube app (only the new playlists appear). And on YouTube, there is exactly ONE youtuber that I can't toggle notification for, and that is Marquez Brownlee. But if I made another YouTube account I can toggle on the notification (the ringing bell symbol) for this YouTuber just fine.
NOBODY has these issue except me. Why?
I HAVE INCLUDED SCREENSHOTS AND PICTURES. SOMEBODY HELP ME

Oh I meant that I can't downgrade Play Services, as in I can't install an older version of Play Services.
Another Picture shows the Play Store works fine on other devices. Also here is video of Marquez Brownlee notification problem if you don't believe me. Problem has existed for years already and still hasn't been fixed.
Edit: Second video is portrait because I'm taking it with the Tab S3 with a heavy armored Gumdrop case and can't hold it in landscape (small hand and body) while using the mouse. Don't have tripod either and I was trying to obscure private information.
It isn't that we don't believe you. We do. But there is something wrong with your Google account. If it was me I would factory reset the device and go through the re-install of the Google Account. Somehow Android is not getting updated with your Google Account info so either it is a connectivity issue with Google or something with the install process.

SOLVED.
You have to turn off that option during initial "factory" setup. I couldn't turn it off because I didn't have or don't remember my Samsung Account. You need the Samsung Account in order to go past the login screen for "Secure Folder". As far as I know, there is no way to turn off secure folder after it is turned on without a Samsung Account. Deactivating/disabling the Secure Folder app also did not work. I fixed it by factory resetting the device and making sure that the initial toggle for Secure Folder is set to "OFF" (I think the reset is a necessary prerequisite). It looks like the issue is poor software design. Being required to have an account to turn if off, while being able to turn it on without the account is just a terrible choice in design. User aspexil, you have been thanked.

Glad you got it solved. That might be something new with Oreo. I didn't have that problem when I first got my tab. Ever since it's been rooted and I've never had a Samsung account. Or maybe I turned it off when initially setting up the tab.

UNSOLVED.
Actually it's unsolved again. I typed down Nova Launcher in the search box to check if I have it "paid". And it showed up as paid. But now I realized that I was looking for Nova Launcher Prime. Damn it. I guess I need to flash my Tab S3 to a reliable ROM then?

When you factory reset did it reset to Android v7.1? Maybe just stop there and see if you can get the tablet to work before applying Android v8.0? I haven't used anything but stock so don't know what ROM to use.

Nope. When I factory reset. It reset to Android Oreo 8.0.0. Play Services installed was 12.6.85 (instead of 12.6.88, I think I actually installed 12.6.88 manually via sideloading). The play store version is the same 10.2.06.
So I am wondering which ROM provided online is legitimately unchanged and STOCK so I can just flash via Odin. Then install the Oreo update via WiFi (I am assuming I received a corrupted update that won't happen again).
Also, one guy told me from another thread that he had the same issue and said he just waited a few days and let Play Services "sync" and it just fixed itself automatically. Although, I don't know if he really does have the same problem.

I'm pretty sure you will not be able to install nougut firmware after installing Oreo. The bootloader for Oreo is new and Samsung usually trips an e-fuse when updating the bootloader. But you can give it a try and then letting the device update. I get firmware from updato. But be advised that Oreo for the us isn't available yet (nougut is there). The UK version works fine, though. That's what I'm on.
PS, you'll have to enable developer options and then oem unlock to use Odin.

Netflix stopped working

Today I got a prompt to update Netflix I then got the message that my device was not compatible with this app and that I needed to contact the developer. I did that and after a long chat come to find out our tablet is not certified with Google Play Store. Does anyone have a fix for this?
Remove it from your device.
Download it from APK Mirror.
Install it with APKM installer
https ://www.apkmirror .com/apk/ netflix-inc/netflix /netflix-7-58-0-build-26-34888-release/
And update it yourself when nessary.
Disable Playstore updates
You get a Netflix error 15001, when logging in.
You need to flash a Magisk module
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s4/how-to/netflix-error-15001-fix-t3923125
Then it works.

Thank you so much. One more question, you said to update yourself if necessary, wouldn't that put me back in the same situation I was in?
No, just download a newer stable version later.
If necessary.
Install it manually.
Don't fix it, if it ain't broken:laugh:
@ XDA we are Testers
This is quite strange. Not certified with play store? Really? Is this some random no-name knock-off tablet with Android thrown on as an afterthought?
I'm getting the same error on a STOCK ROM, unrooted. I think there's a way to re-certify the Play Store. This is a very bad scene for Samsung. It was supposed to be a premium tablet.
ETA: I don't have the tablet in front of me, but I recall something about unlocking bootloader in developer settings impacting Netflix updates. I'll try and report back.

Reboot into recovery, wipe cache and now it shows in the playstore
To be clear, the play store was showing and working for other apps, but not netflix. Clearing cache seems to have worked, so thank you. I wonder if it was related to pre / post update.
