S7's Gear VR on S8-S8+ - Samsung Galaxy S8 Accessories

Hello to everyone.
I m wonder if S8-S8+ are working with s7's Gear vr? About size i think it will be ok but what happend with lens? It will be compatible or not? Can anyone has an answer?
Thank you!

Wont work because the usb plug is different.

I think the newer s7 vr headsets came with the changeable plug you can use micro is or swap to the type c.

Ah you're right, then it should work assuming that's what the op has.

S8 maybe but the s8 plus won't fit in the older vr.....i think lol

Can anyone confirm if Gear VR 2016 (V2) works fine with S8? Mine came without the USB Type-C plug, but I'm planning to buy it separately.

Samsung multimedia smartdock and USB otg not working with kitkat

My USB mouse and keyboard have stopped working since ee pushed out the android 4.4 update. This is with both a cheap USB otg cable and the official Samsung multimedia dock.
Had anyone else experienced pertinence with KitKat and USB otg?
Update: in security settings, set the policy level to normal.
All working again now, huge thanks to Lisa at EE.

OK thanks. Maybe there is a different problem - I shall the dock with a friend's note ii to see if perhaps the dock is faulty. I make no assumptions about my cheap otg cable.

Since upgrading to kitkat, my keyboard and mouse also does not work on my smart dock anymore. The HDMI still goes through to the display but it does not detect the usb keyboard and mouse.
the Smart Dock huh? they havent released one for the Note 3, and the latest one (which is old) seems to work, i wouldnt be surprised if Sammy stops the support in purpose.
damn, and i was so near on getting one.

Yes. I got my Smart Dock about 4 months ago and it worked perfectly. If I knew KiKat was going to break the functionality I would not have upgraded. Very disappointed. Really hope they fix it in an update.

Now it's working again I can say that it is a good device. My only criticism is that I would prefer it to be landscape than portrait

on KitKat as well? How is the charging? How long does it take to charge the phone?
it is going to create inconsistent charges switching from dock to wall charger which differ in USB versions and power transmission.
Can you try to use the wall plug of the Note 3 in the dock, just curious if it will charge any faster...?

Hello XDA, this is my first post.
I had the same problems: 4.4.2 official version in my GT-N7100 and my Smart Dock is not working properly: the USB are not working at all.
I downgraded my Note 2 to 4.3 but it's still not working.
Before upgrading it was everything ok.
I sent an email to samsung but I received no answer at all.
Any sugestion?
Thank you

MHL Cable/Adaptor Recomendation

Hi,
Does anyone on this forum use their Z2 over MHL?
I was wondering what MHL Cable / Adaptor you would recomend.
I have seen a Sony one, but is is very expensive (£30).
I was wondering what the thoughts on the cheaper ones were.
Thanks
in Advance.
Anyone got any recommendations for this? I too am interested.
Bought this from Maplin today ( for us with my HTC one. Tablet Z and Z2 ) so will report back when I've had time to test

Bought MHL 2.0 11 pin adapter today-didn't work. I'll try 5 pin tomorrow.

Sorry forgot to post back ( on holiday ). The maplin cable works like a dream but requires power if your tv isn't mhl compliant

I bought two adapters now and will test, but how new does a television have to be to be mhl compatible? Leaving on holiday tomorrow and would like to use my Xperia2 on the TV in the room, any good guesses on if that's a longshot?

I bought this:
amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00CI42C4S/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i02?ie=UTF8&psc=1
which works perfectly but on my TV requires a separate power source for the MHL.
I've been using a Rocketfish MHL adapter for the appradio in the wifey's car until I can get an adequate mirrorcast dongle.
I haven't had any issues with it. It also comes with a 11 pin adapter for newer Samsung devices.
The Samsung branded 5 pin MHL adapters should also work and be found in stores(they had them at my local Bestbuy along with the Rocketfish I bought).
I'm not sure exactly what you're looking to do, but maybe some sort of cast dongle might be a better option.
For streaming I like using chromecast best(there's 3rd party ones that support chromecast/mirrorcast/DLNA/airplay in one unit). The user experience is much nicer with chromecast but you're limited to using apps with cast icons and a wireless network(mirrorcast/dnla don't require this).
For screen mirroring a straight HDMI cable works best but not even Motorola puts HDMI ports on their devices anymore. MHL adapters work for the most part just as well but can have more failure points and compatibility issues. I haven't tried mirrorlink yet(I do have a new appradio that supports mirrorlink as well as HDMI but it's still in the box) but from what I under stand it's not as fast as HDMI and may give noticeable lag.

so i ordered the 5-pin version and it worked just find,.... but it does need to be powered with the micro USB for it to work

does anyone know if there's an MHL adapter that doesn't require to be plugged in the wall outlet????

Does anyone own, or have tried a USB-C to HDMI adapter/converter for the G5?

Just curious if the G5 supports wired-display-out since the G5 still has features that competitors have dropped. Supposedly the G4 still had it despite competitors giving up on it, but USB Type C supports display, so USB Type-C to HDMI converters and adapters are a thing.
Just curious if G5 kept wired display-out since the G5 also kept the removable battery and IR blaster.
I too am curious about this. I've been hoping that since the G5 is able to send 3D video to the 360 VR that it would also support standard hdmi as well, but that may or may not be the case.
It bugs me that phones seem to be dropping wired video out options in favor of wireless/chromecast. I mean I like the chromecast and all, but I'd still like the option of a wired dock - Windows phones with Continuum sound pretty cool - and I'm still hopeful we'll be able to do something similar with Ubuntu on our phones someday, but the disappearance of wired options for video out concerns me in this regard. I know wireless is the future, but I don't like losing wired as a fallback option.

I'd love to know this as well. I have a Pico-projector that I use when camping and I'd prefer not to have to take a tablet along.

I don't get mine until Friday (uk) but it seems it does :
( I can't post links )search YouTube for "Coms USB C to HDMI LG G5"
No idea what he is saying though!
I believe the VR unit connects thru it too, so as that is 2 screens, it makes sense.
Can't find many (any?) Usb-c to HDMI adapters. Would a micro-usb adapter do with a cheap microusb-c converter?

Looks like it does, but there's at least some output lag; it's not perfectly in-sync between phone and HDMI tv. That will be a little disappointing.

Yes I have one and it works perfect 4 HDMI out to your TV set the one I bought was the Apple dongle for the HDMI out from their laptops and again it works perfect very pleased with the performance
I tried a slimport adapter/lead, but it only had a microusb connector so I tried a microusb-usb c converter. No luck
Just ordered an apple type lead as suggested above so will see how that goes

This would be especially useful for cord cutters if you can still charge the phone while it was connected. Or if someone can find a way to give the G5 qi charging without using the type c port
Ok y'all seem to know more about this stuff so.. Could someone link me to what I need to hook my G5 to my TV

I use a device called a netgear ptv 3000. It is used as a Mira cast device. Well, it used to be called Mira cast on phones. Now it's called screen sharing. I think it's actually been called screen sharing since KitKat or lollipop. Either way, I've used this with a Nexus 4, Nexus 5, g2, note 5, and the g5. The latency is bad on the note 5, but almost prefect with the other phones. It will display anything you have on your phone to the TV wirelessly. You just plug it in to the HDMI and a power outlet, activate screen sharing on the G5 and you're good to go. A negative side is that you can't put your phone to sleep so it could kill the battery faster. A way to prolong the battery is by putting the brightness all the way down on the screen of the phone. It won't effect the brightness on the TV. One last thing, when you first get the ptv3000. Be sure to update the device before you try and use it or it won't work. The udate is necessary. There's instructions on how to do update in the box. I got mine for around $40 a couple years back. Hope this helps. Peace.

to be honest.. chromecast is doing extremely well so far on my G5.
this thread is about physical connection to the tv / beamer though.
My bad. Just throwing out an idea.. Nevertheless, the netgear is nice because you don't need Wi-Fi like Chromecast to use it and it mirrors everything..

in fact, that VR device gets its video stream just via that type-c...no problem with that, what a waste if LG give it a type c but only functioning like a microusb port.
I can confirm too that the apple macbookair lead works. USB c to HDMI.
Thanks for suggesting it. Now I just need to find a way of powering/charging it whilst using the lead

phone magnetic?

My gf put her s9 on my magnetic mount in my car and it stuck I heard that it's stick to the wireless charging coil will this hurt the phone if she uses it like that?
Don't know the answer to your question BUT I will add that an official Samsung video (focused on enterprise features of the phone) leaked right before launch briefly showed an S9 being attached to what appeared to be a magnetic car mount. There was some speculation that the S9 had this built in as a feature but I couldn't find anything that corroborated that. Hate those damn things you need to apply to your phone for magnetic mounts to work, perhaps Samsung solved this?
Here is the video

I am interested in a magnetic mount for my s9.
Which one do you have? Do you recommand it? Do you think it will also work on a s9 with a non-magnetic case?

USB-C - 3.5mm headphone adapter

Hi guys,
I've got to work today and found I've not brought my bundled USB-C - 3.5mm Headphone adapter with me. I'm thinking it's probably a good idea to get a spare or two.
Looking around it seems that not all types are compatible with all phones.
Can anyone confirm if an adapter compatible with other Huawei phones e.g. P20 will work with Mediapad M5?
I'm thinking of something like:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Headphone-Adapter-TriLink-Huawei-Black/dp/B077FJKZMM/
Thanks for any advice!
The one I bought for my M5 8.4 was https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-C-Ty...cd803a66b:m:mTROBXmtYcyehHK4G3vWF6A:rk:1:pf:0
Only used it a couple of times, but seems solid enough.

This works great if you're wanting something that sounds a bit better than stock.
Pixel 2XL USB C to 3.5mm Audio Adapter,Hi-Res DAC Chip Headphone Jack CONMDEX Type C to 3.5 Converter Compatible Google Pixel 2 Pixel 2 XL HTC U11 Essential PH-1 Phone Razer Phone https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DXP213B/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_KywBCb00FQQAK
This one works fine, and you can charge at the same time, but it disables quick-charge (must only connect the + and - connections and not the ones used for data).
The M5 supports analog audio directly out of the USB C port, that is how the bundled USBC-3.5mm adapter works. I found that my bundled adapter makes clicking sounds if the usb connector wiggles at all.
I bought 3 of these adapters (only $1 each so I bought 3 incase any were duds) https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07KT2F7K7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1.
It works like the bundled adapter, it doesn't need a DAC chip as it takes the analog audio directly from the usbc port. It doesn't click like the huawei adapter, sound is excellent. 1 of 3 the connector case on the usb-c end slides off as if its not glued properly, the other 2 of 3 are perfect.
I also bought digital adapter with a built-in DAC chip, https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07MX553YX/ref=twister_B07KSSXZ8Q?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
It works fine, sound is excellent, it drains the battery a bit faster however so I choose to use the analog adapter.
Here is a link from my previous order in France. Works perfectly well
